In 1987 and 1988, Futureland/Toshiba EMI released the Complete Recordings series. The series focuses on special effects film scores composed by Akira Ifukube, and began with a release of eight volumes. The eight volumes were then reissued in 1992 along with three new unnumbered volumes (Daiei, Toei Animation and Toho-Daiei). That same year, a ninth volume, for Ifukube's score to "Godzilla vs. Mothra" (1992), was released. A tenth volume was released in 1993, which was Ifukube's score to "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" (1993). The eleventh and final volume, which is Ifukube's score to "Godzilla vs. Destroyah" (1995), was released in 1995. In all, the series consists of fourteen volumes.
This is the second volume of the Complete Recordings series. The first disc is Akira Ifukube's score (mono recordings) to "King Kong vs. Godzilla" (1962). The stereo recordings were released with the Toho-Daiei volume. All volumes are two disc sets.
The second disc is the score to "Giant Monster Varan" (1958), also composed by Akira Ifukube. Tracks 1 - 20 is the score for the final theatrical film. Also included are cues from the unfinished television version of "Varan", those are tracks 21 - 30. Some of the television score cues ended up being utilized in the final theatrical version. Those cues are TV-7 (track 9), TV-8 (track 10), TV-13 (Track 17) and TV-15T2 (track 19).
By the way, what you're getting here is the original 1987 issue of this volume! This was later reissued in 1992.
