Had to look it up. Amazingly, I don't recall ever seeing this war flick.

Before I talk any further of it, are you sure you know exactly which film it's from? Might you state the title?
........
Ah, what was I thinking, of course you do! I don't think he's in any other war film similar to this one anyway. :o

I knew it wasn't going to be Hannibal Brooks. So Lion of the Desert it is. Honestly, never seen it.
One of my fave Reed flicks was The Three Musketeers. He 'was' Athos, Other actors don't cut the mustard!

Lion of the Desert is a great film. Watched it almost entirely out of anticipation of hearing Maurice Jarre's excellent score, and along with that, it was alike to Lawrence of Arabia in the aspect of the desert setting, so is The Message, so all three of these films have three things in common; 1. Anthony Quinn plays a role in all 3, that of an older bearded man in both The Message and Lion of the Desert, and 2. Maurice Jarre provided an excellent musical score to each and every one of them, and 3. they all take place in the desert. :p

Sounds good. I'll try to see it.
As far as desert flicks go, there've been some good ones. Recently I watched The Secret of the Sahara (Ennio Morricone) - not bad. I think this is a mini-series that's been made into a single film, a bit like Das Boot was.

Looks as if a Civil War-era soldier picked up a PPSH-41. I have no idea of what it could be.

That would be a highly anachronistic civil war. :)

Not The Great Escape. James is too old in that pic. And of the two later WWII films of his, one takes place in the Pacific, sothat leaves Cross of Iron.

Accidentally stumbled onto this thread. If no one minds, I'd revive it with one of my favorites.
