I had the same problem. It was pissing me off.

Well, my main account isn't recoverable since I have no idea what email I used for it. If only there was some way to find out. :(

It seems that my profile is gone, too. The email adress I used to register the old profile with, has long been inactive (since Yahoo! got hacked a few years ago) so I�m unable to retrieve any reset link. I also cannot write any messages (yet). Very inconvenient.

I had the same this morning. I ended up getting them to reset my password, the first few times I requested it to my email, and when the email appeared and I followed the link to reset the password. Even this caused some issues saying it didn't recognize my email, but I did it a couple of times and it went through and I changed my password, got back in, then changed the password back to what it was. Complete pain in the neck but I'm back in. I hope this may help someone.

Nvm! Turns out that my main account was tied to a really really old email I don't use anymore. Finally found the login information for it. I'm such an idiot! Definitely gonna change the email to my current one right now.

I'm surprised to read about so many users having their account associated to a no-longer working e-mail address, we're talking about what constitutes the most basic level of security here.

Well, I got the same problem - thought I was losing my mind until I hit 3 of 5 logins, triple checked the password from the password manager, then decided to just hit the forgot password link. That worked - though I had to remember which email I used.

Hi, this is user Matt_Lambertson, not exactly the most useful user but I contribute nice banter occasionally. I am having the same issue, where my password, which has stood for a thousand years (well, seven) suddenly stopped working. Since I have never had to find it before, I wasn't sure where the password reset button was so I created this account to log back onto the site but now that I read this thread I see there must be one somewhere so I will try to find it. Additionally, I noticed that a secondary account that I once created in order to express a politically volatile opinion I didn't want associated with my real name due to possible harassment, was also unable to login for the same reason.

More importantly, user ostgems, who is one of the biggest contributors of new releases to the forums, contacted me last night to relate the same problem, and also saying he was not receiving reset emails. He is not the kind of person to have an outdated email address linked to his account. Based on my experience with running phpBB forums back in the day, either some kind of outdated-account pruning plugin has gone horribly awry, or someone has hacked the forum and is messing about. Advise someone who knows the admins to contact them ASAP.

Glad to see I only had to reset my password. Was weird for a few minutes when it didn't work... I had a randomly generated, 10 character password. Now it's beefed up to 16. Hope whatever the cause, this gets sorted soon.

Figured it's because my old password finally got flagged or something, given it had a rather nasty word in it.

Turns out FFS was just being, well, FFS.

I got nailed last night, fortunately I changed my password on my iPhone (I still use my initial email after 20 years of its creation lol). Given that I am a frequent visitor and I always remember my password, plus I use a still-active, if ancient, email, I figure its some idiot messing around with the *giggle* server again.

I'm relieved to know that I wasn't the only one, and I'm glad that some people were able to get their accounts back quickly. Hopefully we'll get more answers soon enough, but it's a good thing that I decided to post this regardless. I should trust my instincts more often :laugh:

You know how you apply to reset your password and an email is given out and then when you click, a new email is given with your new temp. password.
What if there's a way to bypass that and just set a command to reset everyone's password.

A password manager is handy.
LastPass, KeePass, etc.
Let it store your passwords for you, and they usually have tools that generate passwords for you. (20 characters: a-z, A-Z, ,0-9, !@#$%^&*)

LastPass is an online database. So you need to write down your password for accessing LastPass.
You lose that, you lose all your passwords archived.

KeePass is offline, so no risk of the cloud database (LastPass) getting hacked and posted by anonymous hackers.
For offline password managers, only real risk is your computer crashing or getting hacked. Pros and cons for all. :itsamystery:

Also helps to manage passwords for email accounts, too. LastPass keeps track of when passwords change (if you mark them to save changes).
Which comes in handy if you're ever asked what previous passwords were (if you want to recover an account somewhere that asks that as a security question).

I do an old fashioned thing called writing down what Emails I use for which accounts, Usernames and passwords. A cross goes through old passwords, so that I can still read what they were but know that I don't use that one anymore.

This info goes in my diary, which I keep.

It's then simple enough to type out a list of this info and keep it in my possession (wallet or whatnot).

Always have backups of backups...of backups...

I also write down the web addresses of all these sites too (always having to update for the torrent ones when they keep changing domains).

Likewise...it must be an OCD kinda thing we have :)
I've got notebooks dating back to the eighties with email addresses and passwords...
pretty sad when I type it down and look at it now :)
but it's saved me on many occasions.
