This release is 9 minutes shorter than the OST. The Main Title ought to account for about 1'30 of that difference. I wonder what makes up the other +/- 7 1/2 min. worth of differences?

EDIT: At first listen, it seems "Rey Meets BB-8', and "That Girl With the Staff" do not appear on the FYC. I'm probably wrong!

EDIT: Seems's "Maz's Counsel" is also missing from the FYC.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing! I love the score for The Force Awakens. It's not as "in your face" as other film scores which strangely allows it to breathe and grow and be more memorable for it. It's nice to have a proper expanded edition of it with film mixes and (hopefully) unreleased cues. And considering the sessions for this (if they leak which considering how closely guarded everything has been for this film I doubt) this is probably the most complete version of the score we'll get if Disney doesn't decide to release a deluxe edition sometime in the future, which considering how many versions of the Frozen soundtrack they released, they probably will.

Why? The only other one different from its OST counterpart in terms of unreleased / film mixes is Cinderella. If you want the other ones just down convert the OST tracks to 160kbps..and there you'll have the FYCs! Lol..

I don't think Ant-Man or Avengers is anywhere complete - there's only 8 tracks for Ant-Man and only a few more or so for Avengers.

Looking forward to listening to the OST when it arrives next week, which will be after I see the film in IMAX. I am sure more will follow, expanded editions, complete editions, and so on. I look forward to them all !

There is a rumor on another forum that follows a certain Maestro that a 2-CD version of The Force Awakens will be released at some point in 2016, possible first quarter. It seems Disney may want to try to cash-in on the success and popularity of the new movie.

Personally, it would not surprise me. And if it happened, it would be massively popular to the point that, when the Sony licenses for the first six run out between 2017 and 2019, and Disney take back the license themselves, we may finally get proper expanded releases for the first six films.

Each successive release was less complete than the last, and this is most noticeable with Return of the Jedi, which replaced all of the source music written for the film originally with the new versions featured on the Special Editions. Plus, the quality of some of the pieces on both Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi was just horrible.

The 2004 and 2007 re-releases are identical to the 1997 releases, so yes.

I personally am happy with the 1997 releases that I have but am really hoping for the prequels to get a proper release. And they really need to release The Phantom Menace the way John Williams originally intended it to be for Lucas's early cuts before he started chopping up the ending in the eleventh hour, leaving Williams with no time to rescore.

Neither is the case, unfortunately. The "Han Solo Returns" piece on the Anthology and on the original OST use part of the cue "Han Solo Returns", then cut the ending of the Jabba The Hutt concert suite onto it, but the full, original recording of the Jabba The Hutt concert suite has never been released.

Very Happy to see these have been extracted. Ive been stuck listening to this off the Disney Awards site until now, lol. Personally I was bummed to see they used free lance artists rather than the London Symphony from the last 6. BUT I think the lack of punch contrast to the other 6 is down to JJ as he focuses less on Music to narrate the story. Lets hope EP8 focuses more on music.

Forgive my ears if I'm wrong, but the Jedi end credits on SE sound different than both the Empire credits on Anthology and on SE. Are you sure that its the same intro part from Empire on the Jedi SE version? How much of it is the same?

The intro is the same. The material from 2:24 to 2:33 is the TESB recording taken from 1:49-1:59 of the Anthology TESB track "Finale/End Credits". The rest is taken from the Anthology "Ewok Celebration/End Credits". This was confirmed by Mike Mattesino:


I didn't master or do any audio work on them, just guided the assembly and sequencing process, but the "skinny" is that there was no clean end credits available from Jedi, only the album master with the "Ewok Celebration" overlap, so on the S/E release the first six bars of the "End Title" come from Empire.

Well, I believe it. So is there no Jedi film version of the first six bars out there, even on anthology? I know that the film version on disc four is just the Yub Nub instrumental with the tracked Empire credits, and theres the one on disc three with that shitty Yub Nub with ewok lyrics (seriously, who the fuck thought of that?) so is the disc three version accurate, or is that one usin the first bars from the empire recording as well?
On a slightly unreleated note, do you know if the tracked empire credits is how it originally was in the theater, in 1983? if so, when was it changed?

As for, the opening title crawl being one recording tracked three times for the movies, is the end credits tracked as well? or is that a new recording (I mean the first part, not the suites)... because I've done comparisons of the opening crawl and they sound the same recording but they sound different, ie different instruments get different prominence. Is that because the soundtracks were mastered differently? And Actually if i remember the end credits intro is definitely different for ROTS.. but yeah listen to the different title crawls instruments sound like differently placed in your ears, in AOTC and TPM you can easily hear the two timpani strikes, to the left if you have headphones. With ROTS the timpani is more towards the center so is the brass. anyways...
do you know if the suite versions of themes that usually play in credits, are they different recoridngs every time? I know Luke and Leia and Parade of the Ewoks are faster, but is it a different recoridng or just edited to pitch differently? but fo the prequels, anakin's theme, duel of the fates, across the stars, are they re-recordings or tracked music?
Sorry to bombard you with questions, haha. Maybe some form of flattery that I assume you have the answers... or just annoying.

The Anthology "Ewok Celebration / End Titles", and the original film, all use the original Return of the Jedi recording in full. THe original films were mixed differently to how they would be mixed today, hence the different sounds. The themes in the end credits are written in to the credits suites and are definitely recorded with the rest of the end credits. I might add that the only real exception for this is Revenge of the Sith: they used the cue "Revenge Of Sith" from the film to fill the spot Battle of the Heroes takes after Leia's theme.
