I just received this email:
Dear JHFan,
Someone has tried to log into your account on Final Fantasy Shrine Forums with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.
The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 185.77.129.54
All the best,
Final Fantasy Shrine Forums
A google search reveals the IP address is from the Netherlands and appears on spam lists, but I'm asking anyway.

Someone from Chicago tried logging into my account about 2 days ago and because the login failed 5 times, I got notified on my email account... Thought it was nothing to worry about till I saw JHFan's thread.

It has to be some of the website scammers that try to steal money...... i wonder if the realise these are free accounts.....

Those failed login attempts are usually just from spam bots looking to take over an account and send spam pm's. Nothing can really be done to stop it, unfortunately.

Remember Sarah has been getting hatemail and lies about her from people, right? That could be a reason for the attempted hacking.
Just my theory, though

Had the same thing happen back when I posted the How to Train Your Dragon 2 FYC, hasn't happened since. Probably just Spam bot like Jessie said.

Even a broken bot clock is right twice a day.
If you haven't changed your password yet, I'd suggest doing so to a much stronger one.
A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and include random Unicode characters (!@#$%^&*()_).
Not sure what the maximum size for a password here is, but try for something at 16 characters or higher.
If the bot, or another bot, tries again, it'll have significantly less chances of hitting the lucky permuation.

just make sure you're password here doesn't match the password of your email account.

Change your password.
Try go for 16 character length.
Include mix of small case UPPER CASE num3rs and other characters like !@#$%^&*()_
Attempts have been before from bots.

Safest thing to do is change complexity of your password.

I everyone...
I received e-mail that the following IP address 176.9.99.134 tried to login into my account.
This IP is in Germany, so it does not meet the IP standard from my country.
So my question is: Is there a way so that I can block this IP address from trying to login into my account here?

I tend to use at least two capital letters, replacing some letters with similar-looking numbers or just putting a number at the end.

Errrm, so "mypassword" isn't recommended? I just ask 'cos a friend of mine uses this for everything.
Azetlor

Not recommended, no. Nothing's stopping him from using it.
But if it had to be something similar, I'd so something like "Myp455w0rd1" or whatever.

Most likely a spambot, also:

Since some of those IP addresses are seemingly "shared" in the TOR network, please refrain from creating threads or make such data public and simply report it privately to an Administrator.

I'll put up one up in General Discussion tomorrow.
There's also some threads I want to put up about other security advisories.
Annoying, but important, Java/Adobe updates.
It seems the last 5 updates for Adobe Flash have been critical due to persistent flaws in the development.
Another re-enforced advisory for people to use Malwarebyte's Anti-Exploit (exclusively installed aside Anti-Malware; you need 2 installs for 2 programs).
Java is not that big a concern, most browsers disable most of Java's features (development kit) and only allow simple access.
But there are still exploits for the simplist functions of Java.
Java 7 is going obsolete if not already, so updating to Java 8 should be prioritized.
Older programs need to be updated to run Java 8, if not already.
Or replaced entirely. I can't think of any ancient software that needs to be run today that requires Java 6. :erm:
And then there's other threads I want to create concerning Foobar2000.
A nice introduction. Complete with updated libraries (though, the Encoder pack should be the most up-to-date, minus the QAAC updates).
FFMPEG usage, for those with iTunes releases.
Just a great big technical corner, if you will.

Password generator with up to 20 (i think forums have a maximum of 50) characters.
9-0, !@#$%^&*()_+=., a-z, A-Z
Make each character unique (nothing gets repeated).
Could use something like "LastPass".
Or an offline password manager.
