Metal Gear Solid: one on the Playstation, but again, not MGS2. Metal Gear Solid 2 had a very cutscenes, even in the second half and could not play as Snake. MGS was the first person and do not have any tranq gun story was woven into the game. Plus, no funky like MGS2 "Patriots" had a plot. Do not get me wrong, MGS2 is a great game, but it paled compared to the PS first.

mgs2 is a giant set up for 4. in a way, so is 3, but 3 can stand on its own. it's hard to live up to mgs1 though.

Final Fantasy VII - For me, the deepest story and most well realized world in any game I've played so far. Funny thing is that I didn't really like the game much on my first playthrough. Yes, I used to be in the 'ff VII is overrated' camp', mainly because of the admittedly hard to follow narrative (cloud/zak storyline really confused me) After replaying it recently, paying a little more attention to the plot and game mechanics, I now consider it to be probably my most favorite game ever.
Super Mario Sunshine - One of the happiest game ever. Played it with my little nieces and nephews. They enjoyed watching the game almost as much as I enjoyed playing it!
Metal Gear Solid 2 - So many great moments. Bizarre and brilliant at the same time.
Goldeneye 007 - Unlike most people it was the single player game that gave me the most enjoyment. So much ambition and skill from a company that has sadly lost it's touch.
Doom (ps1) - The playstation version had a really, really atmospheric soundtrack and was the first fps game I ever played.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - One of the funniest and most FUN rpg's you can hope to play.
Pilotwings 64 - One game that won't be appearing on many people's best of list. In fact, I've never seen it on any top 10, 100 etc. list myself. Don't know why though, as it's awesome and unique.
Tomb Raider (ps1) - Even hundreds of sequels later, sadly Core design have never been able to emulate the same kind of wonder and genius level design as the first landmark tomb raider.
Super Mario 64 - Another one of those games that I found disappointing on the first playthrough. Maybe it was the unprecedented hype? Or the sub par european release (borders and 50hz) Whatever the reason having played it again a few years ago I can truly understand what the fuss was all about in 1996. Hey, better late then never huh?
TES Oblivion (360) - Of all the games on this list one I'm a little unsure about. Only because it's the only one that I'm playing for the first time as I write and I'm still in the early stages of the game even though I've spent a good 75 hours. Not all of the 75 hours has been enjoyable but when it's good it's simply enchanting. So atmospheric and addictive that I think this could well end up in my top 3 or 2 once I'm done.

The following games almost made it onto my top ten: Super mario world, Half Life, Zelda: Link to the past, Diddy kong racing, Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil (ps1).

I have to add a few more:Chrono trigger, metroid prime 1, and I fell in love with silent hill 1-3.I played 3 a couple of times, and ended up liking it more and more each time I played it.Dragon quest 4:I hate the gambling part, but I love the vinyettes of the stories of each character, like taloon and the two gypsies with fortune telling, and the spanish music.Just incredible experience.arkham asylum has to be one of my favorite beat em up games, and favorite super hero game.double dragon is amazing too.I love the karate techs in the game.

Also Call of Duty and Lego Star Wars can almost count as their own respective series considering all of the games in each series are very similar to each other, but when it comes to Call of Duty I love the first just a little more than the rest. :p
