From one second to another millions of people disappear. All in all 'just' 2 % of humanity, still enough to cause suffering. None knows who did it. Or if the ones gone are still alive someplace else. The series starts 3 years later.

i think I like "Last Ship".
Not about the poor choice of enemies (Russians, Al Queida, no surprise, fullfilling an "american" clichee) but because of the apocalyptic topic. I like topics like that (not in real life though), in books and films and tv series.
I don't think it is extremly GOOD but it is entertaining, we will have to see how they USE the post-apocalypse-chances.
Of course it is not "original", but what topic CAN be original (most have been dealt with before), i don't care for that, i am more interested to watch how THEY deal with this topic.
Same goes for falling skies....

Just caught up with True Blood season 7 ep3.
It had some nice moments in it. I cheered.
Watching it in 60 frames per second (interpolated), and the vampire movement is so much nicer.
I didn't, however, watch it with my Pulfrich glasses.
iTunes has such horrible compression. 720p, there's blocks all over the screen. 1080p, everything is "muddy" looking with no real detail separation. Everything looks pasty.
I don't trust 1080i broadcast recordings since most of them will have a lot of glitches in them.
Still, good to keep up as it comes out.

I can understand why it's not as popular - it wasn't the same deal as TOS. They dumbed-down the show for kids, which in my opinion was a mistake. In the process of cartooning the imagery, they cartooned the scripts too. However, I found a few episodes interesting.
"Yesteryear", where Spock goes back in time (a la City on the Edge of Forever gate) to save himself.
"The Slaver Weapon" with the statis boxes.
Another one worth noting is "The Infinite Vulcan", where the ST universe ends up with two Spocks.
Spectre8750
07-15-2014, 10:33 PM
That was close too, we could've ended up with 2 Shatners. Makes my spine quiver! I still like the "Tribble on a Stick" where there's a shot looking down the corridor with slapstick music and the crew running from room to room being chased by a Giant Tribble that was a result of Spock's Hormone Injections to grow the Tribbles for more meat. Pppp yuk yuk snort! Oops sorry!

At least you can't blame me for that. Only joking. Actually Alien Nation the movie is a bit of a laugh. "San Francisco". It's shot like a television cop show, not a cinema extravaganza, and in some ways that's a relief and blends into the series more easily. I suspect it was always a television movie that got put on the big screen like Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Mind you, given what passes for entertainment on television these days, you're on to a winner.

Sorei, Crossbones had all of the pieces. Good location to shoot, good cast, decent budget and an interesting twist to an old tale. Yet somehow for me it was a bad mix. Granted I only watched the pilot but I felt it was terribly disjointed and the main narrative kind of got lost, motives got too murky too quick. By the end it seemed silly, the direction it was going to take so I never came back to it. From what I have read it was doing fair-ish ratings numbers for it's slot. But it was likely expensive to film. They say it is pulled from the schedule but there are still two episodes left and they will be burned off on the second. It IS getting closer to fall premiers. It's sink or swim now and most summer programs can barely dog paddle.

Is anyone else thrilled about TWIN PEAKS - The Entire Mystery Blu-ray Box? I preordered mine ages ago... just TWO days left.
Oh, definitely! This the tv-series that inspired so much of what we see on tv today (and videogames as well)!!
It's a bit too expensive at the moment, but I'll definitely get it eventually. Since it's an upgrade from DVD (I have the Gold boxset) I'm not in that much of a hurry....plus it hasn't been that long ago since I had last seen the entire series. I've never seen the movie 'Fire Walk With Me" though (well, bits and pieces).
Everything about this series is so special....a big part of this is Angelo Badalamenti's music...and his music has again inspired so many composers since then (for instance much of Akira Yamaoka's music from Silent Hill).
It's about time X-Files gets it's release on Blu-ray. I know that the entire series has been restored in 16:9 HD recently, but Fox still hasn't announced anything...dammit!!! :p
Seems there was a snippet of news about it recently though. It might have some exciting news in there for some ;)
As for The X-Files, the delay in announcing an official Blu-ray release might have a little something to do with this: As it’s been reported from Comic-Con, and frankly as we’ve suspected here at The Bits for a while now, series creator Chris Carter is in talks with Fox about returning to the franchise either with a reboot series, or a new feature film, or possibly both. (Read more here at Den of Geek). Waiting for any kind of official announcement about such a project before announcing a BD release of the series makes tons of sense from a studio marketing perspective, but again we’ll have to wait and see.

Yea, but the villains' origins are already very well explored and most were not even around with Bruce as a kid. For him to have interacted with them all as a kid is insanely stupid, hence my skepticism.

So there I was, using my Bing search engine to navigate to my MySpace account, when I happened upon a striking discovery in the bulletin section. Apparently, the trailer for Star Battles: Episode VII has been out for over a decade, just so that Lucas, George could troll us. The dirty cunt.
So anyway, I pull up the trailer (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33KjGSbSpMY), and to my utter dismay, it's everything I didn't want it to be. Selena Gomez stars as Hope Solo, the tomboy daughter of Hans and Princess Leila. I mean, dafuq kind of casting decision was this?! I suppose they could turn it into a musical and we'd all love it like a love song, but who likes love songs? I mean, really. I'll pass.
Then we've got Mark Hamill reprising his role as The Joker, my personal favourite character from The Dark Sith. This could ostensibly work, but I fear that they're gonna botch his lines constantly being interrupted by surprise return co-star Cup-Cup Winks. That, to me, was the straw that broke the bantha's back. Don't play us, G.
The best twist of all was that the real Queen Amedallion actually remained safely anonymous all along, and the mother of Lucas and Leina was actually that monotone body double putting on an especially good vocal performance as an overattached girlfriend. The fact that she's played by one-trick pony Christian Stewart is only too fitting. "HAHAHAHAHA," mumbled Stewart as she signed her name at the bottom of the contract. Well played, Lucasarts.
So, that about sums it up. Looks to be a rather intriguing entry in the Space Fights saga. I've got my tickets reserved. Do you?

after stargate universe i will rewatch voyager, then SG1....
:)
sgu is more ruthless and dark, a bit like ds9, but even more so, in my opinion.
the story is not really original, like some voyager/ds9 mix, but still, the characters are interesting.
i am nearing the end of season 1 now.
on another note, the new tv series stalker seems to have received a full load of negative reviewas, enough to peek my interest :D

No rush, only 2 episodes in. As is Bones. Which due to catastrophic and gut wrenching spoilery things, i cannot elaborate on...
---------- Post added at 07:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:11 PM ----------
Once Upon has promise. Castle was bloody stupid and looks to remain so. NCIS was good, both of them. New Orleans will be good but feels just a tad rough to me. New show Forever is ok. I have scheduling conflicts there. Scorpion is interesting enough. Chicago Fire had a big event then a "3 months later" spoiler sitch. Sleepy Hollow is irritating as fuck and I have dropped that. The Mysteries of Laura (new show) is all right, but is pretty much a comedy. How To Get Away With Murder is....different than I expected. We'll see. It will be a multi episode thing, the central mystery/drama should last most of the season I expect. The Mentalist is not back until "mid-season", and this is it's final year.
Agents of Shield had some mayhem and death, and also actual meta human powers. COOL ones. Dallas is cancelled. USA? Rush is cancelled, but Satisfaction and Witches of East End are renewed. I gave up on Grey's Anatomy seasons ago, so have no idea, but they are minus Christina now. I have Resurrection recorded but not watched yet. Blue Bloods was strong. CSI was...meh. Silly really. It will never survive on Sunday nights, that I am sure of. Madame Secretary is smartly written and acted, much like West Wing, and nearly as liberal. Like Commander in Chief, I do not expect it to last. Person of Interest keeps progressing. Tis very dark and yet funny. Starting well but the story itself is grim. Have Gracepoint recorded but not watched. Based on Broadchurch and Tennant stars in it. Should be good. Red Band Society stretches believability in it's premise to the point of distraction. To be fair I only partook of the pilot. I was quite let down by it but others like it. I have to get past what I know the reality of hospital protocols are I guess..Parenthood id in it's last season, and is about as good (or bad) as any other season. L8O: SVU is ok. Olivia's story is looking up, but the usual histrionics with personal lives again this season. Amaro is not on-screen at all sometimes, but IS in the credits so we will see.

...hmmmm, madam secretary seems to be something worth looking into, i very much enjoyed west wing and commander in chief...
i will not give up sleepy hollow ;)
new orleans rough? interesting. (the thing most rough seems to be the accent for me, judging from trailer, a real challenge for me...)
i never considered how to get away with murder or scorpio. Not because i thought they were bad, i just cannot watch them all :D
Amanda

New Orleans is taking great care to wear Orleans pride on it's chest, to the point of annoying me slightly? I cannot quite say it right. I find the medical examiner unlikeable
but I do not particularly care for the actress. The three main agents work, but the forensics and support team do not quite gel for me but it is early yet. Another NCIS crossover this week. If you count last year's 2 part back door pilot, 4 episodes of New Orleans have aired, 3 of them containing the original NCIS cast.....:b

Watched the Resurrection premier, and it has taken a right turn into creepy again, and is actually moving forward. I am glad to see that. On the other hand, watched Stalker's premier and will go no further. I dunno if it will be watchable as a show, but my paranoia/hallucination levels make that a creepy ass show and not...fun..in any way. Truly creepy in spots, but I feel it was also a little over acted and written. It is....dunno.

under the dome and extant have been renewed :)
so, stalker got all bad reviews. what does that say about me liking the show anyway???
reign is back *happy* with a new season, i like those middle age series, i liked white queen too (will be another one called white princess)
stories roundabout the tudor time...
vampire diaries started too.
and crossing lines (william fichtner)
grey's anatomy of course.
another new one: strange empire, still have to watch that.
is "flash" worth a look?
Amanda
10-10-2014, 11:39 AM
Flash has not aired yet. Nor has Constantine. Many shows are being held back until later this month, and also "mid-season". And since football is on network channels on Sunday, Monday & Thursday, many shows are being scheduled around that.

...amanda, i like mcdermott for some reason, and i like maggie q.
yes the first episode was full of violence, and yes thexy want to make us aware that we are all alike vulnerable.
I am aware of that, those facts not withstanding, i found it entertaining.... maybe that makes a bad person out of me.
i am not saying the series is good, i just say i like it, whether it is good or bad, at least up to now...
nothing original, foreseeable alright, nothing new under the sun.
actually i check Mookys twitter thread for tv news :D
he had done that at bolt, but does not do that there anymore...
Amanda

so i just stumbled over a tv series called "the Lottery".
Mankind stops having babies, the phenomenon starts about 2016, and at some point, no babies are being born at all.
And then in a laboratory it works, 100 eggs are fertilized, although the scientists do not know why it worked.
the leading scientist soon suspects there is something wrong (how could it not) and tries to find out what mnade these 100 eggs work and what is behind the political agenda.
the american president wants to find 100 surrogate mothers in a lottery.
Those are the only 100 fertilized eggs on earth.
watched the first 2 episodes, thriller-like, i will continue....
