I have a feeling people will be bashing this and saying it's just another version of Sherlock. But it's like Sherlock meets Rango. It has that western sound to it. I really like Tonto's theme (at least what I think is Tonto's theme in "Absurdity"), and Zimmer's take on the William Tell Overture in "Finale" is very fun. Also, Jack White wrote "Red's Theatre of the Absurd" as well as 3 other songs, so some of his material actually did make it into the film before he left.

The music is pretty good, i love to see zimmer re-arranging old western music by zanelli's instruments and balfe.. so i add TLR to my favourite like POTC1-3 and RANGO

A better effort than Man of Steel, but maybe it's just a more diverse listening experience because I'm hearing the work of various composers.
Man of Steel tended to find one mode (big and loud) and stick to it, much like the film. This is much more enjoyable.

After a good listen, I have state categorically that this score kicks serious ass! Where have you been, Zimmer? Basking in the Nolan inspired meditations, no doubt. Well, welcome back! Love the mangling of WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE, the orchestra must have swallowed litres of Red Bull to pull it off. Takes me back to the powerhouse lyricism of THE PEACEMAKER :)

HI HOCHUGGA-CHUGGA-CHUGGA!!!

Well, Hans has had Morricone's Giu' la Testa aka "Duck, You Sucker" on rotation for years; and be sure to catch the quote from Morricone's seminal Once Upon a Time in the West in "You're Just a Man in a Mask". As for the rest: same-old, same-old nothing on steroids until the clouds break and Rossini comes riding to the rescue at the head of a spear of sunshine only to be ambushed by illiterate savages who strip him to the bone and feed his remains to a chorus of baying coyotes.

What a mess.

You are definitely not in the minority, it's just that there are so many haters that it seems overwhelming and that the supporters do not voice their opinion. I understand where you're coming from, though. I have seen some people on here call it "atrocious", yet I don't see them stepping up to the plate. I think a lot of people are comparing it to John Williams, which you just cannot do. This is 2013, not 1978. And another thing to think about - how could we all forget how many fucking MoS threads were created here? I really don't think that any of the posters would take the time to upload a score they hate, or at least by a composer they hate. The haters are always gonna hate, and surely someone will quote my message here trying to justify HZ composing MoS, or something in that matter. But it's done with, there's nothing they can do now but continue to hate

Because the William Tell Overture IS The Lone Ranger theme. There is no definitive Superman theme. There's John Williams' famous theme, but there were Superman movies and TV shows before Richard Donner's 1978 Superman. The William Tell Overture has become synonymous with The Lone Ranger. The Americana Song Reader - William Emmett Studwell - Google Books (http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=VhV1u2oIb-QC&pg=PA90&dq=Lone+Ranger++William+tell&hl=en&ei=sQuxTdzBFI2Sswb68vD1Cw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=Lone%20Ranger%20%20William%20tell&f=false)

It also may not have been Zimmer's decision. I believe Gore Verbinski made the concious decision to place the theme in the movie. Apparently, Hans Zimmer was against it. (Though we haven't heard that directly from him.)

Take a look: /Film Interview: ?The Lone Ranger? Director Gore Verbinski ? ?We Are on a Crazy Road to Extinction? | /Film (http://www.slashfilm.com/film-interview-the-lone-ranger-director-gore-verbinski-we-are-on-a-crazy-road-to-extinction/)

Quite excited to hear this one as I was a little disappointed by MoS. To me it felt like the base of a soundtrack but lacking an actual theme. It felt like something you'd here before the actual theme starts, I don't know how to describe it. I like Rossini quite a bit and from what I've read here there isn't a lot of Zimmer in this Zimmer score.

Errrrrr... I don't believe many people would be comparing this to John Williams so much as just comparing it to the work of Mr. Hans Zimmer himself. Wouldn't you agree? It is just an unentertaining (IMO!) Zimmer score. It is clear that the two movies are completely different styles and tones, and a bombastic heroic score would seem out of place in Snyder's movie. I will concede that the movie limited the type of score that would fit such a slow, sombre drama (you may guess at this point that I wasn't a fan of the film either!), but had Hans scored this back in his hey-day, it would have been far more thematic and memorable. I don't know if he's just run out of music, but his current output is just simply inferior to any of his work pre-2002 (again, IMO!).

I am getting a little excited to hear The Lone Ranger, based off a lot of the feedback from this thread, but I sincerely doubt it is going to stand alongside his greatest work.

Amanda

Man of Steel was not that somber. It's pace was severely hampered by the score. Seriously, it would've worked better without any score than what it got. And no, as I suspected, Williams' themes and motifs would not have worked either. I do still wonder if a few bits of Krypton's theme could have worked in the opening...

Probably better to avoid all links entirely with the other franchise... might have spoiled both versions! :P

Will give the movie a second chance either on BD or perhaps at a cheap screening. Will try to see the film as less of a Superman movie, and more from the perspective of the imdb description:
A young itinerant worker is forced to confront his secret extraterrestrial heritage when Earth is invaded by members of his race.
I laughed when I first read that!

I personally hate the marketing for this film. They all advertise Tonto as the main character instead of the Title Charater which pisses me off. Thats why I made this cover with just the Lone Ranger. They did the same with TRON: Legacy.

Why do people keep wishing, hoping, desiring, sacrificing chickens that Zimmer had incorporated a John Williams theme from a superannuated film? These are two different films with two different 'feels'.

Though I have not seen the MOS movie, I have listened to the score and find it filled with emotion and a deep pathos that certainly would not have fit in the successful comic book silliness of the earlier film. We are talking apples and oranges here. While people seem much more happy with this Lone Ranger Score I do not find it interesting or creative. Maybe a few left over drums from MOS but that is it. But my opinion IS OF NO IMPORTANCE as long as others are having a jolly time with its music.

Lamenting MOS on any level is of no good. It is a done deal. And the Lone Ranger? That is even a bigger done deal because it is a major flop.

Another example of Hollywood banking the family farm on spectacle instead of story.

(I still enjoy John Carter and its score)

I personally hate the marketing for this film. They all advertise Tonto as the main character instead of the Title Charater which pisses me off. Thats why I made this cover with just the Lone Ranger. They did the same with TRON: Legacy.

Well it may be titled "The Lone Ranger", but the story is all about Tonto. It's told from his point of view. And let's be honest, everyone wants to see it for Johnny Depp and not Armie Hammer. I feel they made a horrible choice in picking him to play TLR. Not everyone knows who he is yet, he's not a house-hold name. Everyone knows Johnny Depp and he's the main star here. That's why he received top billing over Armie Hammer.

Thanks Lockdown for the link.

I just finished listening to this last night.
Different. In a bad way... more like a Gore Verbinski carnival ride built over the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney World.

I imagine there's way more music in the film that's better.
This album felt more like the bonus tracks we got from Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. 3 tracks of disappointment and source music.

The William Tell Overture was cute. And very annoying and died quickly.
I liked all the rest that was in between the Overture.
I didn't have the heart to finish the last track.

Here's hoping to a deluxe, expanded, sessions, full film viewing.

And Silver theme is also good in the the overture, zimmer's arrangements for the williams tell overture and silver were GREAT..

I quite enjoyed this one for what it was. Bit more campy sounding, a lot of retread themes pirates + davinci/angelsdemons + sherlock combined into one. And it has a lot more replay value for me than Man of Steel. But that's just my opinion.

Rossini would be so pleased ... QED!

And I very nearly cracked over "zimmer's arrangements for the williams tell overture" - the unintentional humor in that one is almost too much.

It's not Zimmer's arrangement, pretty sure that's why it sounds good.

Yeah I know, I just see a lot of people crediting Zimmer for it. Has anyone listened to the original William Tell Overture? It's actually pretty nice. I have it, played by the London Symphony Orchestra, I think.

Wow. Really? You mean an iconic piece of music that had been around forEVER? You have listened to it?

How about the original 1950s TV serial Lone Ranger theme? Ever hear that, too? Pre-tee good stuff! ;-)

Carl W. Staling was responsible for introducing generations of kids to classical music via Warner. Bros. cartoons- especially Daffy Ducky & Bugs Bunny. The William Tell Overture was used frequently as was work by Wagner and more.

Should we burn Staling at the stake for the liberties that he took? Hmmm, I don't think we can.... unless we first use a shovel since the man has been dead for some time now.

Rabbit of Seville is a 1949 Warner Bros. Looney Tunes theatrical cartoon short released in 1950. It was directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese.

The cartoon, in a plotline reminiscent of Stage Door Cartoon, features Bugs Bunny being chased by Elmer Fudd into the stage door of the Hollywood Bowl, whereupon Bugs tricks Elmer into going onstage, and participating in a break-neck operatic production of their chase punctuated with gags and accompanied by musical arrangements by Carl Stalling, focusing on Rossini's overture to The Barber of Seville.

LOL I hate to tell people this. but aside from that 3 minute end credits piece before it segues into "Home", and probably a couple other variations of the Home theme and Tonto theme featured during the Tonto backstory scenes and the scenes where he is an old man (as well as rehashes of the same themes represented here), this is pretty much the entire score....

I say that as soon as someone starts a thread for a lossless version for this soundtrack, we should ban future threads of the same thing! The only exception, is if someone uploads an "Audiophile version" like 24bit/96khz or something like that.

Look at the internet police over here. Don't like that more threads get posted? Then don't post in them? Seems pretty simple. People just love to make a big deal out of nothing, even though it doesn't affect them in any way.

Im not making a big deal about it, Im just saying. Its against the forum rule to post duplicates anyways.

I'll admit, Ive posted threads that others have posted before, but that's because I didn't know about that rule, or that I didnt see the thread while searching to see if someone else did. Once I found out about the rule, I quit, unlike you. It just clutters up the forums with unnecessary threads. Its easier to have one thread and post links there, then to have a clusterfuck of the same thread.

Lone Ranger suffered, unfortunately, from Depp-Pirates-of-the-Carribbean syndrome: overblown, overwrought, over-the-top and underwritten. Armie Hammer channeled Nathan Lane in The Bird Cage while Depp expertly mimicked an out-of-body peyote overdose.
