Another easy thread. Please do not list Final Fantasy here, because everyone here obvious loves FF. Now, the idea here is simple. Out of all of the great game series out there and available, which five do you love the most? Heres my top five :

5. Breath of Fire Series the first four were great and proved that CAPCOM could stand up to the RPG heavyweights like Square, Konami, Enix and the like. Unfortunately, that ideal of CAPCOMs died with Breath of Fire : Dragon Quarter. I do not like this game. Apart from that, the rest of the series was great.

4. Vandal Hearts Series A great role play strategy game on the PSX. The first one came out a year before FF Tactics, and IMO, the first Vandal Hearts is a great game, just as good, if not better (Im ready for your flames) than FF Tactics. But thats just my own personal opinion.

3. Suikoden Series Ive only played the first two, because they were the only ones released in PAL territories, and theres just something about these two titles which appeals to me. Even though they werent a particularly complex game to play, they were still enjoyable and challenging refreshment to the other RPGs out there.

2. Shenmue Series This was a good series, even if the story was pretty ordinary. It was an attempt to make a reality game, which succeeded to a certain degree. But hey, martial arts action, story, while ordinary, could get to anyone.

1. Dynasty Warriors Series Come on, look at my nickname here, do you really think I wasnt going to list this as my fav game series? This game, IMO, is great! Controlling a character, wade into a group of enemies and send them flying with a sweep of your weapon. And the best part, is its based on the novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, by Luo Guanzhong, which in turn, loosely based on the events in ancient china, circa 170 AD 260 AD.

Anywayz, those are my top five fav game series, whats yours?

Does it have to be series? Whatever.

5.) Sonic The Hedgehog Series. Basic gameplay I know, but it got me hooked. Sonic 1 wasn't that great, but Sonic 2 blew me away, and the combination of Sonic 3 and Knuckles with uber Super Sonic if you get all 14 emeralds was class.

4.) The Super Mario Series. Just above Sonic because I'm a big Mario Kart fan. That, combined with Super Mario Land on the Gameboy and Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES were what really hooked me into gaming.

3.) The Wing Commander Series. The game series deteriorated after the first one, but in terms of the influence it's had on my life, it's a major one. Most of my writing would not have existed if it weren't for this series of games influencing my science fiction direction.

2.) Suikoden Series. The game deals a lot with death and war, two major emotional attributes that are hard to get across on a gaming medium. It does it well though, with the emotional impact of McDohl and his father on opposite sides, Gremio's Sacrifice, the love of each of McDohl's companions for him. It's awesome.

The second game too had a great storyline. Two best friends on opposing sides and their third friend split between them.

1.) I wouldn't call it number one, but the Elder Scrolls Series. Morrowind in particular. Certainly the most addictive game I've ever played.

So yeah, those five in some order.

5. Streets of Rage- How I loved those games back when the Genesis ruled the gaming world. Why they don't make a next-gen SoR game is beyond me.

4. Metal Gear Solid- These games are pretty cool, and fun too. MGS rocked big time but MGS2 wasn't all that good (*cough*Raiden*cough*). Still, MGS3 is looking really good!

3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater- This series is awesome!!! I'm still waiting for THUG to go GH before getting it cause I'm cheap.

2. Sonic the Hedgehog- The Genesis games were awesome and I really hope Sonic Team gets more games out on the PS2.

1. Need for Speed- I love racing games and NfS is the best racing game series EVER! Lots of fun, but I particulary like the Hot Pursuit editons.

5) Dynasty Warriors Series - Sorry Xiahou Dun!! Sort of a kill time game for me.. but nevertheless a good series

4) FF Series - I had to list this down. Best fantasy storylines I have ever come across.

3) Xeno Series (although there are only 2 of them - Saga and Gear) I like the theme of the story and those amazing gears!

2) FIFA series- Im a soccer fan. Every new game has got tons of new features.

1) MGS Series - Solid action, storyline, game play and characters. I cant wait for MGS 3!!!

5) Monkey Island series - Guybrush Threepwood...hes a legend, and these have a great replay value.

4) Fallout series - This is one of the best Action-RPGs ever to grace the PC. The stroyline isn't that complex, but the shear amount of sidequests and puzzles beats that off FF7.

3) Breath Of Fire - Esepcially number 3, this was the best Breath Of Fire game in my opinion. Just a shame that it didn't have Fou-Lu in it.

2) FF series - These are quality games, and ones with massive replay value. and 7 has to be my afve

1) MGS series - These are amazing games, Solid Snake is great, and who can forget Gray Fox from Metal gear Solid..I love these games to bits, and I love there characters and storylines...definitely the best.

5) Civilisation - I like these games. Especially 2. So sue me. :( This spot would go to MGS, but 2 sucked so much, I'm dropping the series like something hot, or something. MGS would still perform excellently in a top 5 games poll, though. yo.

4) Super Mario - Addictive as hell. :(

3) Suikoden - There's something really appealing about this series. The way the games interlock. The fact that they share a common world of quite a large scope. The enemies are mostly human. Remember Jowy and... uh... hero-guy from 2? Brilliantly told, possibly tragic story. Include lots of mini-games, *108* characters to collect - per game - and you've got yourself a classic RPG series. ;)

2) Sonic the Hedgehog - What can I say? Best platformers ever. ;P I even like the 3D ones. Though not some of the more undesirable spin-offs (Sonic Battle, ick). It's saved by the majority of the games being awesome beyond belief, though. <3 Plus Sonic was like my childhood hero.

1) Grandia - Only 2 games, yeah... And though you probably can fault them in areas such as graphics, gameplay, voice acting (for the first one, anyways) etc., there's nothing exceptionally bad in those areas. Where the series really shines is its plots and characterisations. How many RPGs have you played where the NPCs-about-town say MORE THAN 2 DIFFERENT THING TO YOU? It doesn't seem like a lot to ask for, really. Somebody should have thought of it before - the characters have conversations of a normal length with the villagers! Not only that, but they're interesting, different charcaters, for the most part, as well. The hero of 2 was a sarcastic ass. Not some altruistic young kid. They actually bothered to develop characters that were not completely generic! That talked! Besides that, it's perfectly competent in those other areas. But let's be honest, few RPGs really shine/are very different when it comes to gameplay anyways. So Grandia has it where it counts. Fantastic stories, fantastic characters, fantastic games.

5. Harvest Moon- I've been a fan of these since the first one came out for the Super Nintendo. I was so devoted to the series that at one point in time, I wrote a 7 page letter to Nintendo Power arguing why Harvest Moon should have been nominated for every single Nintenfo Power Award.

4. Space Channel 5- I know there are only 2 games, but it's one of the most addictive games I've ever played. I actually crave these games like pregnant women crave.....I don't know, chocolate covered pickles.

3. Suikoden- It took me forever to get into this series, but I assure you, I kicked myself a plenty when I realized what I had been missing out on.

2. Silent Hill- Everything that survival horror should be. This is one of the first franchises to lure me away from rpgs into all the other great genres that are out there.

1. Chrono- Again, there are only two games, but the two of them are some of the greatest games ever made. I'll never tire of either of them- I just hope that two isn't where this series ends.

There were Three games Duo :O

Uh lets see...

5) Tony Hawk Series: I'm not a skater... but dammit, I'm a freaking Tony Hawk fan. :( Every time a new Yony Hawk game comes out, I must buy it and defeat it at all costs!

4) Metal Gear Series: I enjoyed Metal Gear back on the NES.... then I heard that the NES version was crap.... so I got more into Metal Gear and poof... instant fan. :D

3) Gradius Series: I like hard games... this is hard. Though it looks like a simple side-scrolling shooter, it's extremely hard to go through the whole game with only 3 lives.

2) Final Fantasy Series: Blah blah blah, you know the story.

1) Sangoku/Sengoku Musou Series: Basically the Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors series. I love these games to bits and with Samurai Warriors and DW4: Empires coming out, I want to play them all day! :)

In no real order:
Civilisation series (including Alpha Centauri) - Bloody great TBS, good gameplay, great replay value.

FF Series- You know why.

Dynasty Warriors Series- Like Xiahou Dun said, these are good games. However, I prefer Dian Wei.

Pro Evo/ Winning Eleven- Quite simply the closest football/ soccer game to real life available.

Championship Manager/ Football (Soccer) Manager- I love these games! They're bloody addictive and have great gameplay too.

5 - Iron Sword series on the NES. It consisted of Wizards and Warriors (the first and the greatest of the Iron Sword games), Iron Sword (the second game, plus it had Fabio on the cover), and Iron Sword 2 (the only one I don't own so the name might be a little off). These games are good old fashioned 2d platforming games on the NES with a bit of adventure/rpg thrown into the mix. The first time I could find sub weapons and spells in a game was playing Iron Sword games.

4 - Castlevania. I've not played them all, in fact I've only played three of them but Symphony of the Night is such a great game by itself that even if every other Castlevania game sucked (which they don't) this series would still make my list.

3 - Madden. I've been playing these games with my friends since the SNES when ambulances would take injured players off the field. Which each new instalment we find more and more reasons to play these games for months on end.

2 - Gran Turismo. The best racing games ever. The first "realistic" racer and the sheer amounts of cars and parts for each car is simply amazing.

1 - Heroes of Might and Magic. An offshoot of the CRPG Might and Magic series, but infinately better. This is strategy RPG on a grand scale, armies can consist of thousands of troops against hundreds of dragons. The campaign mode (where the story is) is quite good in the third instalment (the third is the best of the four) and can easily take 50 hours of gameplay to beat (not counting the expansion packs). But hotseat multiplayer is where this game really shines, you can play with or against up to 7 of your buddies (8 players in all) each in controll of their own kingdom. You have to build improvements in your cities, defenses in your castles, hire troops, explore an uncharted world, and engage in epic battles with neutral creatures and your rival kingdoms. I can't recomend this game enough, if you can find it I urge you to play it, you won't be dissapointed.

ps. Zhou Yun ownz Dian Wei and Xiahou Dun.

5. Donkey Kong Country:

By far the best platformers, ever. Rare at its finest.

4. Command & Conquer:

Red Alert is the best RTS ever. These games just kept getting better and better... until Tiberian Sun, which was a huge let down. But RA2 made it better again, but not as good - then there was Generals, which is so-so. Oh well.

3. Gran Turismo:

It turned a person who didn't know what the accelerator in a car did to a rev head.

2. Civilization:

Many many hours of wasteful addiction. Nice :D

1. Metal Gear Solid:

Heaven with death and a silencer.

Heroes of Might and Magic

Great great strategy series with pretty good stories.

James Bond

Civilization

Hell yeah. Awesome strategy. alpha Centauri rocks.

Harvest moon

For all those fellow conrtrol freaks. The new ones suck but the PS1 and N64 ones rocked.

Zelda

Who can't say yes to these. come on...awesome stuff there.

Icewind Dale/Baldurs Gate

Yes...i'm a d&d freak without a DM.

in no particular order and excluding ff:

tomb raider: so the games are repetitive. who cares? as long as they are still awesome, i'll spend the day with lara any time. this would place behind zelda.

silent hill: they are creepy as hell and introduced me to a whole new genre. so there are only 3, more will come. i love it.

sonic the hedgehog: extremely addictive games with cool characters that can be played at any age. they were the reason that sega lasted as long as it did

super mario bros.: addictive, and incredibly marketable. they are also fun to play or just play around in, no matter your age.

legend of zelda: my fave series besides ff. the stories are wonderful, the game structure is superb, and the characters are extrememly memorable. my fave part is probably how they are able to keep making these games when they are unrelated to the others, yet they use the same ideas and characters and stuff. its like each time they completely reinvent it yet keep the same elements of familiarity.

1. Super Mario Bros. series

Final Fanta.... The last of the soda drinks must battle the four fiends of Apple Cider, Juicey Juice, Hawaiin Punch, and the dreaded Lord of 2% Milk. You must control a group of 5 color coded scantily clad women who only speak one phrase. Somehow you must use every weapon at their disposal, flirting with juice sellers, flashing cow milkers, and singing increadibly annoying jingles while looking entirely too happy, all these skills you must use to collect the four collored sponges of infinate soaking to deplete the world's supply of non-fanta drinks and thus insuring the makers of fanta become incredibly rich!

Tokiko

I love Fanta!

However, I also love
- Monkey Island (the first two games, at least)
- Chrono
- Wing Commander (the last three games at least... hey, I didn't play 1 and 2, so what...? ;_;)

Bah, Grandia didn't have bad English voice acting. I was always happy when a piece of English dialogue remained, forgotten by the translators, because it was like 2393% better than the German emotionless talking. I mean, at one time I feel under my desk laughing... ;_; At other times I turned off my speakers or wanted to kill someone... It was so terrible... ;_; Enough off-topicness, but I'll never find the strength to play Grandia again.

Hmm... no particular order

-Warcraft Series... I love you Blizzard! Guess what the next one is? :x

-Diablo Series...

-Starcraft Series.... (Yay for SC: Ghost making this a series!)

-Grand Theft Auto

-Seiken Densetu, if I remember the name correctly =\. Includes Secret of Mana, but the real gem of the series (SoM 2, which was SD 3 if my memory serves right) was really awesome... you could choose between like 16 characters, and although I never got THAT far, it was an amazing expereince. Secret of Mana wasn't a bad game at all either, even though the ending was insanely tedius and hard (I mean... please... 5+ bosses without a break in a row to get to the final place? Ick! And they were the hardest ones in the game!)

1. Tales Series- tales of phantasia, tales of destiny I & II, tales of eternia! those games really rocked my world!

2. lunar Series- yeah i know.. the graphics sucked.. but imagine the gameplay and storyline it contained , WOW!

3. Hack series - one world... AURA!

4. Tony hawk series - it just keeps getting better and better!

5. Chrono series - chrono trigger and chrono cross REALLY KICKED ASS!!!!

well thats it!
with the exeption of the final fantasy whom everyone loves!

BLASPHEMY!

No one mentioned the Legacy of Kain series.

5) MGS series, great storylines/gameplay and a very addictive series.

4) BoF Series, especially BoF IV, outstanding story line, character depht, combat sytsem, magic system.

3) Forgotten Realms series, I am sure you have heard of games like Baldurs Gate, Pool of Radiance, PlaneScape: Torment and others. Just awesome story lines, outstanding gameplay and there simply is so much to do in any of these games.

2) Elder Scroll series, mainly Morrowind with expansions. Anywhere, anyplace. Do what you want go where ever you want when ever you feel like it.

1) Legacy of Kain series, this seriously is the best series in the history of games. The story line is simply stunning and once you start it, you just have to finish it. Many plot twists, very well thought out characters. The 2 best anti heroes and you'll grow to like them.

I have to admit the storys rock but everything else about it is the game version of my anus! I say this because the graphics(not counting defience) are complete shit! And when I say shit I mean shit! The real time scenes look and sound like they were made in garage by monkeys. And the soft core combat blows. I think the main reason no one has listed it is because of these reasons I mean take a look around.

I like defience and the story lines to the others. But no hellish nightmare of a way do I think it is the best series. Its ok but there is tons of games out there that make this shit look like pong I suggest you play some!;)

Actaully, your arguements aren't that strong. Let's take Blood Omen 1 for example. If you compare it to games produced today, then yes the grapics are bad, seeing that game dates ou of 97. Doesn't take away that the game is fun to play and the story is very good.

The gameplay is awesome, especially in the Soul Reaver games of the series. The puzzles are challengine and the battles are really fun to do.

Well I'm not trying to cut down this series completly I mean with the exception of Soul Reaver 2 the games arent half bad! But as for it being the best series ever no way. Tons of game series including some that you listed run circles around it.;) all I'm saying....

5) Bushido Blade, even thought it did'nt last that long.

4) Power stone, did'nt last that long either, but good graphics and gameplay.

3) Street Fighter, it's a really good fighting game.

2) SNK, it has a better storyline than sf.

1) Sonic the Hedgehog, nuff' said.

pedo mc tax me softly, black person (whom i love)

5. Metal Gear. 'nuff said.

4. Gran Turismo. 'nuff said.

3. Ace Combat. 'nuff said.

2. Zone of the Enders. Especially The Second Runner.

1. LEGACY OF KAIN. Best storyline ever that involves trying to defy a predestined fate, and rewrite the course of history for both of the anti-heroes.

Defiance is by far the best of the series, and that game alone makes struggling through the second Blood Omen--hideous though it was for the out-of-sync cutscenes and voice-acting-- worthwhile so that you can get all of the storyline in. The first one and the two Soul Reaver games were just awesome for the time they came out, even if you didn't like the anti-climactic ending of Soul Reaver 2.

I can't wait for the sequel, because there's no way in hell this story is over yet. Kain still has to overthrow the resurgence of the Hylden and restore the pillars (now that he has been restored to the true role of the Guardian of Balance, uncorrupted, weilding the fully restored and unstoppable Soul Reaver). He also seems to have tempered his former insatiable lust to conquer the world (though this seems mainly because of the fact that he had already done that by Soul Reaver, and was bored with that, and wanted to restore balance and be done with it).

And the Elder God must be Destroyed, no question about that.

5. Dave Mirra Pro BMX series: Cool Series of games, far better than the skating counter parts

4. Battlefield Series: Really cool fps games.

3. Gran Theft Auto Series: PHAT, FKN SWEET GAMES great in partys :)

2. Metal Gear Series : Excellent especially the earlier titles pretty good for a nes game huh

1. Final Fantasy series: Who could leave this series out, i dont care if i cant post it, cos how could i have a top 5 with out it?????
