Oh leave him alone. He doesn't hurt anybody and you can just ignore his posts....

An Italian user at another forum I frequent did the same thing Yannis is doing, never anything constructive and his posts were always just one step from being total gibberish. The mods eventually figured out he didn't speak English and was just running his posts through Babelfish, and posting whatever came out. It got to the point where basically the entire site was telling him to clean up his act or take his business elsewhere, which led him to post Italian song lyrics and then later Italian music videos from YouTube. He got banned for that and personally I was wondering why it took so long.

Point is, when you let that pattern of behavior go on long enough without putting a stop to it, it only gets worse.

...never anything constructive and his posts were always just one step from being total gibberish.

your example does not fit Yannis at all. He has been posting MUCH more scores, some rare, alwas good quality, than he has posted "ranting" threads.
None needs to read the threads, in fact they can be spotted easily often as their titles often show they are no scores.

I agree it might be irritating, but if you sum up his work here, it will clearly show he is mainly is a score poster. He is chronically sick with unbearable pain, he does not get the treatment he needs, due to greece's financial situation and uses substitute meds to try to be able to survive, sometimes alc, and this is when those threads start.
He has tried to sign up for treatments, he has been active in trying to fight, but nothing happens, greece is bancrupt. No matter if he always payed his health insurance.
It has come to the point where he can barely walk, so the net is almost his only connection to the world.
Just please, leave him be.
Just do not read the threads.

i can understand that, agreed. a small number, in comparison, though. I would hope that people are able to tolerate that, for being able to enjoy his generosity with scores on the other hand, too.

Maybe I'm jaded by what the Italian guy did on the other forum, but my experience suggests that when you let someone get away with a small bit of nonsense, that small bit gets larger, and larger, and larger with time. I'll discourage anyone from making posts that are nigh illegible. If it's the exception to the rule, it shouldn't happen at all, and if it's the standard, well then it still shouldn't happen, but at that point it's more the mod's issue than the poster's.

I'm always sensitive to the fact that others are from other countries and might not speak English that well. That's perfectly fine and nothing wrong with that--but where it becomes a problem, regardless of other circumstances, is when I can't read their posts on an English-language forum, not without multiple read-throughs. Maybe that's harsh but that's just how I feel.

sorei

@tnpir4002

I think I understand.
I read that people are able to accept exceptions to the rule to a GREAT extend, in order to be able to keep their rules. And this is my experience in daily life as well.
I think we are able to survive a lot of exceptions. Actually I think to some extend they are necessary.

It gives us the opportunity to show tolerance.
(I am not talking abiout every kind of exception here, there are those that cannot be tolerated of course)

Still, I understand and respect your point of view.

Here`s what i think:

Yannis has been very nice to all, because of his condition he`s able to spend many hours in the web and find a lot of treasures that he`s not keeping for himself, he`s so generous that he shares them here with the community.

I don`t feel but gratitude to the man, and also i feel sad for him, but he`s strugling and if this kind of posts helps him in any way, SO BE IT !

Let it be, i don`t mind at all he`s comments, but what irritates me is that there are some people, always the same people, that likes to argue with him, and yes like someone point out, these people has not share ANYTHING to the forum, and it`s the same people, that i`m pretty sure that always download and never botter to even say thanks.

Because i don`t think that not even a single time, they`ve downloaded and enjoyed something from Yannis !

But i also want to give my opinion, i just created a thread that we all can use for this kind of things, Yannis i`m not telling you what to do but you can post and comment, and share anything that you like.

Here it is:

Thread 129037

But if admin leave them be. so should we. Trust the mods to deal for once and just let this man be. He is only reaching out for somne companionship and compassion. His posts aren't irksome to me because they don't offer me anything I'm looking for. They're irksome to me because this is an English-language board, and someone who clearly has a loose grasp of English is posting things that for the most part are one step from being total gibberish. I've been through this with another user on another board, and that other user was nothing but trouble (search "Offerta" at Golden-Road.net if you don't believe me). Putting links in every post is not an excuse for writing in gibberish.

Truly uncalled for. Not everyone speaks English, nor is as cruel and ignorant as you.

As I've said in the past, I don't have any issue with anyone for whom English isn't their primary language. What I have a problem with is someone meeting that description who posts on an English-language board in the manner Yannis does. I'm very close to earning a Ph.D, and in one week I'm deploying to Afghanistan--I'm intelligent, credentialed, and experienced, and yet I still have to read his posts three and four times to get them to make sense. I don't like having to expend that kind of effort on something that shouldn't require it. Ignorant? I hardly think so. Cruel? Not in this lifetime.

If you want to know what's uncalled for? Your post decrying my statement as "uncalled for." When you post something I only have to read it once to get what you're trying to tell me. Yannis' posts are very close to gibberish.

You actually don't "have" to read his posts at all. You know by the poster is is not your thing, so why put so much effort into something that bothers you? Besides, this situation has already been explained several times by several people. If you have such a lack of compassion, why not just move on?

I dislike using that feature (on this forum or any other) because I don't want to miss it the one time out of 100 something useful and constructive gets posted. Historically I've only ever used it when dealing with trolls, which Yannis is not.

Also, there's the simple fact that it's easy to ignore a problem. It's better to solve that problem and make life better for everyone. My problem here is that someone's posts look like gibberish and are difficult to read. I'm therefore solving it the best way I know how.

This post wasn't called for. Yannis isn't harming anyone with these posts, and as i've said previously about him posting threads like this, if it helps him in any way with whatever he's going through, then let him carry on.

I don't know the guy, but at the same time he is a person that is suffering and in pain, and if doing this helps him in any way, then i would say that he should continue doing this.

So i suggest you either stay away from any future threads of his, just not comment in one of these kinds of threads of his or just add him to your ignore list.

This is an english speaking board, but everyone is welcome, people don't need to apologize or feel bad for not knowing proper english and you don't have the right to ask someone to stop posting until they can start to make sense.

Unbelievable. Simply incredible.

So let me try to unwind what you're trying to say here. Because Yannis doesn't speak (or write) the King's English as well as an educated elitist like yourself, he shouldn't post anything at all? Or should he perhaps spend an extra helping of his time an effort improving his English skills . . . just to mollify you? What have you done to earn that effort? Who are you to demand that people write to a certain minimum standard (predetermined by yourself, of course) in an open forum like this?

Furthermore, if he offers something rare and valuable in this forum—as he has done innumerable times, at least in my experience—are you suggesting we not accept it with gratitude simply because he doesn't Strunk & White us with his presentation? That we eschew his generosity because we don't want to lower ourselves to dealing through pidgin? Have you, in fact, ever downloaded one of Yannis's shares? If so, what made it okay?

We're on a roll here, so let's take it a step further:

Also, there's the simple fact that it's easy to ignore a problem. It's better to solve that problem and make life better for everyone. My problem here is that someone's posts look like gibberish and are difficult to read. I'm therefore solving it the best way I know how.

Setting aside the fact that you haven't yet proposed a "solution" of any sort (banning Yannis? Demanding that he quit posting until he seeks help from Rosetta Stone? Forcing him to pay a translator?)—and completely sidestepping the dubious quality of your problem-solving skills—your approach here seems to imply that a problem like this is something that must be solved. That someone who offends in this fashion is the one who's responsible for changing their own behavior. Yet reading through this thread, it seems to me that you're the only one who's put off by Yannis's philological shortcomings. It's also easy to see that far more people are put off by the way you've behaved in this situation. So here's my question: if you believe that Yannis is obligated to change for your sake . . . what prevents you from avoiding the very same obligation? How is your impatience any more tolerable than his linguistic ignorance? If you shouldn't have to put up with him, why should we (and he) have to put up with you. . . ?

For my part, any words I'd attempt in describing my gratitude for what Yannis has given me—personally—over the last couple of months here would add up to little more than gibberish on my own part. The thought that I could accept such gracious gifts from someone and in return demand that he improve his understandable behavior solely for my sake is completely alien to me. Guess something like that comes easier to some than others. But then, I often work with people who are just learning English. I've come to see that a little patience and effort on my own part reaps much greater rewards than indignant narrowness ever could. (A lesson you might do well to heed before you head off to Afghanistan. . . .)

You have the right to make those suggestions. And I have an equal right to comment when someone's post is hard to read, that their post is hard to read.

if someone finds out he or she does not like western movies, and keeps watching them despite not liking them, and keeps commenting about how bad or gibberish they are, wouldn't you start to wonder why on earth the person doesn't simply stop watching what he or she found ot he or she does not like? As in TV magazines you normally can see if something is labelled western.... like you can see here in the forum.
So if the person continues, maybe it is just because the person likes ....ranting? ;)

Initially, the purpose of this thread was to point ironically those who trade music, not share. A knee-jerk reaction that does not surprise me from Yannis who has shared all kinds of music for years, always in HQ, without asking for anything "in return".

Despite my difficulties in English, forgive me for that, I always understood what he said, perfectly. Perhaps because it's a style, a way of being that goes beyond words.

By contrast effect, this thread will at least have as interest to highlight those who have an artistic soul... from others.

All I know, Yannis is my friend and I'm at his sides.

Ah ! THAT was the purpose of this thread ? OK, thanks for the highlight. Very well then.

And true that this thread is much more interesting that anything around. I haven't rated it 5 stars for nothing, haha ;). No soul = no share. And from what I know about this forum, share is hardly possible, excepted for people able to "meet" in a way. Otherwise it's just giving publicly away your stuff for everybody, wich is kind of more disturbing than any copyright infrigements issues (that meanwhile will take great advantage of that way of "sharing" to force public opinions... another discussion). Do I want the guy on the next pavement to pop into a discussion and share of interest I have with someone ? No. That's not a lack of generosity, it's just I haven't met this guy and there's no reason I give everything to him then.

Anyway, are we just explaining things here for the one or two leechers around who have been disapointed finding out there are no links in that thread as it seems ?

.... NO SSSssssEEssions bad HObBit... Noooooooooooooot at aaaaaaaallll.

Incroyable...

Porte-toi bien galement !
;-)

Hey Yannis, I hope your feeling better now and still feeling the positivity above everything else.

Sorry I can't speak in your native tongue but here's what I did: pardon the translation machine if the grammar is incorrect,

Μπορείτε να μην με ξέρετε αλλά σας επιθυμώ καλά επειδή αισθάνθηκα ότι έχετε μια καλή ψυχή.

You may not know me but I wish you well because I felt you have a good soul.

You've earned the right to be "a bit crazy" many times over with your kindness and generosity...

Hey, no kidding, I think everyone would be right to be a bit crazy... mostly on a crazy forum where most people take themselves a bit too seriously. Looks like a diplomatic congress between fools sometimes.

there is this thing, Robin Williams is supposed to have said?

"You're only given one little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it"

I can't Imagine life being so stiff and serious all the time. That alone can't be considered life at all.

No, it doesn't... but realistically, who's it hurting? It'll get moved or deleted eventually... :)

Of course it does, and you need it. You just don't know yet.

Welcome in the download section btw, you'll find everything you want, but nothing you really need.

Well, to be strictly technical there ARE download links in the thread, and those don't belong in GD :b

I know that rules are made to be a guideline of what should and what should not be done but even rules must sometimes be relaxed to accommodate something that is more humane versus being too logical and inconsiderate all the time.

I will make a post....but a post of Mine ( that mean, yes I was - well I'm still a bit with Samplers, Synth...etc... -...but again sorry to be a bit negative....but I was a very good "Pianist, and Cello Player"...my life was OK....( by a stupid accident, I lost the dexterity of my right hand - just been burning....that's why I take so much time Morphine - again sorry to be negative again.... )
Well except the fact that this stupid accident....cut my life...it also give full of others problems ( as...I was half-pro musician...something that I lost )
But let the tears...Attention...is 5 years I'm on this "very Experimental" track...I just want to make a description of my Land...a Morning...not easy at all...but I make "funky" tracks to....don't afraid...:)
I send it in MP3 so is more quick to D/L...normally I just work in Wav ..... ( and don't afraid all copyright are mine...cause some "Albums" as been "vendu"...in other hands - 112 till now - )
.
First something Cool...not Experimental at all...just "inspiration a Sunday Afternoon"
.

I think about what you say "tnpir4002"
You say << Yannis is doing, never anything constructive ..>>
Just put my name on the search and ask for "Posts"...."the search engine" ....just stop to work after first page "To much for the machine !!!"....so think about what you say..... ( certainly stuff you don't like...I don't think so but...let it be.... )
Friendly ( really I'm not the kind of person you think I am )

Espoir.
