2) "In an interview in October 2010, composer Hans Zimmer confirmed that he would be returning to score The Dark Knight Rises. James Newton Howard was offered to return and write the score with Zimmer as he did for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but he chose not to because he noted that the chemistry established between Zimmer and Nolan during the making of Inception would make him seem like a "third wheel".[107]

In November 2011, Zimmer crowdsourced online audio recordings of a chant to be used in the film's score. When asked about the chant for clarification, Zimmer said, "The chant became a very complicated thing because I wanted hundreds of thousands of voices, and it's not so easy to get hundreds of thousands of voices. So, we Twittered and we posted on the internet, for people who wanted to be part of it. It seemed like an interesting thing. We've created this world, over these last two movies, and somehow I think the audience and the fans have been part of this world. We do keep them in mind." The two-word chant deshi basara translates to "he rises" in Moroccan, exhibiting Ra's al Ghul's Arabian ethnicity as well as coinciding with the title of the film, The Dark Knight Rises.

Zimmer included several cues from the earlier scores, but explains that he wanted to go in a "completely different direction" for Bane's theme. While the theme accompanying Selina Kyle is deliberately ambiguous, the musical thread spanning throughout the trilogy was composed exclusively for Bruce Wayne."

(D A R T H : My voice and thousand of other are mixed in this soundtrack ^_^ )

2) Please note i've chosen to give new names to several tracks
because these cues are a complex mix of several various cues

Rise (7:11) Resolution
Deshay Basara (1:43) Bonus Track

Is your version of "Rise" different, or did you just title it "Rise / Resolution"?

And "Deshay Basara" looks like the only thing additional here, am I correct?

it's the standard version, with fading replaced by mix, and all bonus track (there will be 4 more soon !) , the 6:22 track is a fan rerecording (very pro)

Deshay Basara is a demo used for choirs recording (my voice, and thousand others fan voices are in the final soundtrack !)

i think the order is good, but i'm not sure... that sound good like this....that sound natural

risen from darkness ->end credits part 1
end -> end credits part 2

As far as film sequence goes, I'm still working on that. But I can tell you that "Rise" is the last track heard at the end of the film right before the end credits. The beginning of the end credits music is not on the CD, but it's the standard piece the last two films' end credits started with. After about 1:20 it transitions into another piece. Haven't identified whether the piece it transitions into is available. Going by track titles "The End" seems likely, but I need to see the film again to know for sure.

Okay, after going through the score, i'm fairly sure i've been able to place the majority of it in order - many of the tracks on the release are mixes of more than one cue, and some of them are repeated throughout the movie. For those that i'm sure this is the case, i've included times of the track for that specific moment in the movie. In an effort to avoid spoilers, but so that everyone can hopefully use some of this as a starting point, I've placed a note on each track that should be cryptic enough for anyone who has yet to see the movie, but make sense for anyone who has.

There are also several moments in the movie that re-uses tracks from the previous two movie scores, I haven't gone through that, but there's definately one or two that I recognise (Bruce's visitor from the past is a piece taken directly from Batman Begins), etc.

Tracks in order (from memory, so may not be perfect, but I believe it's right)
01 - A Storm Is Coming (opening bat logo)
03 - Gotham's Reckoning (Bane's plane hi-jacking)
02 - On Thin Ice (Harvey Dent Day)
04 - Mind If I Cut In! (pearls and toner)
05 - Underground Army
07 - The Fire Rises (0:00-2:27 bike chase)
17 - Risen From Darkness (You're in for a show tonight/selina turns up empty/police chase batman)
09 - Despair (1:38-3:14 the bat takes flight)
10 - Fear Will Find You (Batman rescues Selina/'so that's what that feels like')
08 - Nothing Out There (Rachel's letter)
02 - On Thin Ice (Bruce and Miranda)
06 - Born In Darkness (prison/Bane's past)
07 - The Fire Rises (2:28-5:33 Stadium/Bane's public statement)
BB - excert from 'Meeting Ducard' (Batman Begins)
05 - Underground Army (food delivery)
11 - Why Do We Fall? (wall climb)
12 - Death By Exile
?? - All Out War
09 - Despair (0:00-1:37 Gordon on the ice)
BB - excert from 'The Bat Cave' (Batman Begins) (light it up)
13 - Imagine The Fire (Bane & Batman fight on the steps of gotham)
14 - Necessary Evil (the slow knife)
?? - No Stone Unturned (0:00-4:37 climactic battle)
BB - excert from 'Mugging (Part 2)' (Batman Begins)
15 - Rise (ending)
?? - The End - pretty sure some of it plays in the middle of '15 - Rise' at around the 5:18 mark.
15 - Rise (ending)
BB - excert from 'End Credits' (0:00-1:27) THE DARK KNIGHT RISES title card (Batman Begins)
16 - The Shadows Betray You (Start of end credits)
17 - Risen From Darkness (end of end credits?)
18 - The End

BB - Tracks taken from the Batman Begins recording sessions)

Any other suggestions for other bits that are reused in the score or reused from Begins or Dark Knight?

Rise was the final track then a unknown filler track then risen from darkness and after that the end.

I've tried cutting in "Risen From Darkness", "The End" and "Imagine The Fire" into the credits intro.

Begins credits time out at 9:05. Dark Knight times out at 7:45. I figure TDKR should time out somewhere within that range. The cut I did of the credit intro into "Imagine", for instance, times out at 8:51. If I tacked on "The End" as well it would be 15:04. That's just too long. So whatever is after "Rise" it's only one piece, or an edit of multiple pieces. But it's not two complete tracks.

Of the three I'd say "Imagine" sounds most like what I remember from the theater. It fits extremely well coming out of the intro. I like the way "The End" sounds, but contrary to my initial post, I no longer believe it's correct. Still, will know for sure after I see the movie again. (Maybe it was an intended credit piece that got dropped? Don't know.) "Risen" sounds wrong transitioning out of the credit intro, imo.

Unfortunately when i saw it at Imax, they stopped the movie without letting the end credits roll in their entirety, as they bring up the lights and someone advises everyone how to leave the theatre (really annoying) and they just stopped it after a couple of minutes.

I was thinking back though, and after the standard music we get at the end of all three movies (when the title first appears) it started playing 'The Shadows Betray you' (that bass start is distinct) - and though this isn't long enough for the full credits, i didn't get to hear anything past this.

If anyone has any suggestions for other parts, or even tracks from the previous movies (give a track name and which movie) then I'll add them to the list, maybe we can compile a complete?

Underground Army is the scene where Gordon discovers Bane's army in the sewers.

Death By Exile is when Gordon is walking on the ice.

The End is during the credits (pretty sure it's the last part)

All Out War is played when Gordon's army is meeting near the end of the movie.

It may not be the whole of those tracks used in the end credits, if you listen to the end credits of both Begins and Dark Knight, they are pieced together from several pieces. I haven't heard the whole end credits of the movie, the Imax staff rudely shut off the movie once the credits started to roll and ushered us out, think they didn't plan enough time for getting us out and the next lot in before their planned start time of the next showing.

Yes, one of the annoying things Hans Zimmer likes to do it compile two or more cues into one track for release. Then there's also the chance that a small piece of music may be used in the movie on more than one occasion - or in this case, someone suggested it's in the end credits - possibly part of it. I don't know how much of it is used in the middle of 'Rise' but given the amount of things that happen at the end, Rise is not long enough.

Would be really good if someone was able to record the end credits music with their phone in their pocket or something, even a poor recording we should be able to match the tracks/parts used.

For the end credits, use the TDK end credits beginning, not BB. BB plays the "theme" once, while TDK and TDKR play it twice. One thing to note, the TDK recording sessions have a bit of a build up to the credits kicking in, something which is not present in the actual film.

'Rise' is heard in its entirety in the film, there isn't anything from The End there.

For the end of the credits, grab the last part from the Wayne Manor suite from that iPhone app. Where the choir starts like in On Thin Ice, then it builds up. Only thing - add the sound heard at the very end of BB/TDK credits to that bit (when it reaches a crescendo)

TDK - excerpt from 'End Credits' (0:01-1:27) THE DARK KNIGHT RISES title card (The Dark Knight) as it is in the film and TDK (i.e. without the 1-second build-up)
16 - The Shadows Betray You (up to 2:20)
13 - Imagine The Fire (around 4:01-5:17)
18 - The End
11 - Why Do We Fall? (0:00-1:30)
Wayne Manor ending, crescendo overlaid with BB/TDK end Drums

The hiccup for me is The Shadows Betray You/Imagine The Fire - the bit from ITF ends and The End starts when the rolling credits are about to start, so play around with TDK End/TSBY/ITF as necessary using the TDK credits (the film, not the score) as reference. What I definitely remember, The End plays during the rolling credits, then it goes into the Why Do We Fall? build-up, and then the Wayne Manor ending/end drums. Hope that makes sense.

---------- Post added at 01:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:38 PM ----------

People may have been confusing Imagine The Fire in the credits with Risen From Darkness. ITF is actually in the credits, Risen is not.

And final thing about "Rise": the drum bit at the end is different in the film than it is on the soundtrack, the film uses the drum bit ending from TDK edited with the Barbastella ending. See for yourself (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zB2xpsTB8I)

'Rise' is heard in its entirety in the film, there isn't anything from The End there.
Are you sure about this? It doesnt seem long enogh...

SPOILERS

For the scene where they unveil a batman statue, for gordon to read the passage he does from the bible, for Albert t apolagise for failing, for the will to be read and blake to hear the orphans getting the manor, for blake to get the bag from the woman and reveal his birth name, for alfred to go to the cafe, for blake to go rock climbing...

What there is, 'Rise' doesn't seem long enough for all that once the explosion happens. I don't think that all of 'The End' is inserted in the middle of 'Rise' but i think some of it is. If not, where does 'The End' come in the movie? I dont recognise it anywhere else.

I'm uncertain about the runtime for Shadows Betray You, play around with it so it fits. What I definitely remember is that the bit from Imagine The Fire plays before the rolling credits (I.e. during the fade-in fade-out credits) then it's The End, first 90sec of WDWF? and last minute of Wayne Manor

Yeah that's pretty much what it is, the TDK end credits intro followed by a mix of the tracks you mentioned. Then it's The End, the first 90 seconds of Why Do We Fall, and last minute or so of that Wayne Manor app suite.

Sorry I didn't post the new cue list, since the forums were down. it should be like this:

TDK - End Credits (0:01-0:44)
BB - End Credits (0:23-1:28)
13 - Imagine The Fire (2:43-5:17)
18 - The End (0:00-around 5:27)
11 - Why Do We Fall? (0:00-1:30)
Wayne Manor Suite - (21:07-21:43)
BB/TDK End Drums

2 things to note - an alternate unseen version of TDK End Credits plays in the film from 0:10 until when it goes into the BB End Credits theme. (for this mix I just used the TDK credits theme instead) And finally, that first bit of Imagine The Fire that's played may be shorter in the film.

Justreturned from seeing it again (thank you nlimited card!) just adding particular bits i noticed.

I need to check timings, but there's an insertion in the middle of 'mind if i cut in' when it is first played. Part way through the track, there's the piece of music from the very start of Begins where you see the courtyard of the chinese prison - it's played immediately after Bruce has fired the arrow, not for long, and then when he opens the cabinet to reveal the opened safe it fades back into 'mind if i cut in' with the bells ringing.

Also, where catwoman leads Batman to meet Bane is using the first half of 'why do we fall?' i need to check the time, but it's right up to the part where i stops (where the jump is later on) - that's when the metal grate door shuts behind batman and the music stops.

'on thin ice' is used yet again, during the scene where Blake goes to the Mansion and tells him about Gordon being in the hospital - it starts when he explains how they first met and how he recognised The look on wayne's face and figured it out.

When wayne meets with lucious, it plays some of the music from fox meeting with lau in hong kong firstly, then fads into something else when they go to applied sciences.

After bane defeats batman, and blake gets no answer at wayne manor, he spots selina leaving her apartment - 'mind if i cut in' is used here all the way up to Blake walking up to her in the airport - to edit it, it starts straight from where the Piano starts playing, so some of the start of the track needs to be cut off.

Ok, Trip to hong kong is used at the start of where Wayne goes to speak with Fox at wayne enterprises.
I 'think' gordon is dead plays just after bruce has been out as batman for the first time, when Alfr tells him about rachel's letter, the music plays through that scene, bruc says 'goodbye alfred' turns and walks away from the camera upstairs, then it cuts to him waking up in bed later - the music is timed to fade out/ stop when it cuts.

erikottowegner

Nothing out there is when Alfred comes down to the batcave for the first time and bruce is researching selina, and alfred talks about his fantasy

ahdvd
07-28-2012, 12:20 PM
When the motorbike chase starts, there's a separate piece of music with the 'chant' that plays from when the bikers first drive out of the stock exchange past all the cops and over the ramps, then as soon as it cuts to the shot of the bikes on the highway bypassing a truck, that's when 'The Fire Rises' starts to play.

I'm sure that when bruce makes his second failed attempt at the climb, it uses a bit very similar to a part of 'Gotham's Reckoning' - but with the end slowed down. Can any good music manipulators edit from 3:11 to 3:34 and from about 3:20 mess with the speed but manage to keep the pitch right and see if this sounds right? It's the one where immediately after we get a replay of the 'Bruce, why do we fall' scene.

I have this order so far and it's rough, but might help. Mine's not perfect, but one thing I found was I don't think 'On Thin Ice' is Harvey Dent Day.

-A Storm is Coming (Logo)
-Gotham's Reckoning (Plane Hi-Jack)
-Prison Nightmare [BB] (Wayne Reappears)
-Mind If I Cut In? (Selina & Pearls)
-Nothing Out There (Alfred's Fantasy)
-Selina Kyle [Z+] (Selina's Deal/SWAT Arrives)
-On Thin Ice (Blake and Wayne)
-Loud Enough [TDK]/Trip to Hong Kong [TDK] (Fox & The Bat)- might be a combo, best I could get
-The Fire Rises (Bike Chase)
-Risen from Darkness (Dark Knight Returns)
-Despair (Batman on TV/Dagget & Selina)
-Fear Will Find You (Rescuing Selina)
-On Thin Ice (Bruce & Miranda)
-Mind If I Cut In? (Selina's Flees)
-Born in Darkness (Story of the Child)
-The Fire Rises (The Games Begin)
-Meeting Ducard [BB]
-Underground Army (Special Forces Arrive)
-Why Do We Fall? (Bruce Rises Out of the Pit)
-All Out War (Marking the Trucks)
-Despair (Gordon on Ice)
-Death by Exile (??? - Can't find this one)
-The Bat Cave [BB]
-Gotham's Reckoning (War on the Streets?)
-Imagine the Fire (Batman vs.Bane)
-Necessary Evil (Citizen Revealed)
-No Stone Unturned (Chasing the Tank)
-Mugging Part 2 [BB]
-Rise (End)

There are quite a few cues I can't find on any soundtrack, including Harvey Dent Day, The Stock Exchange Heist, Batman & Catwoman Fighting into Bane's Lair (although this might be on the Z+ track Wayne Manor), etc

I'm trying my best to find everything and help so we can get a complete score, but any help would be great. Thank you so much to everyone before that helped me get this far!

and I haven't the clue how to edit tracks, so I'm hoping someone does, and if anyone needs help with a specific piece of music or section of the movie, ask me if it makes it faster!

Well if you think it about it, "Like A Dog Chasing Cars" was originally written for the convoy chase in The Dark Knight, and since Nolan cut it out from the final version, it made the album release. Just like the intro to Imagine The Fire.

Hey 005,

Are Halfway to Hong Kong, Meeting Ducard & Mugging Pt2 the only cues tracked from BB & TDK used in TDKR? Also, do you know which portions of those cues are used in the Dark Knight Rises?

i believe so

Meeting Ducard (the complete cue is used i believed... so i used the complete one for my edit)
Mugging, Pt. 2 (only about 29 seconds of it is used.. like starting somewhere in the :30ish range)
Trip to Hong Kong (the first 60 seconds or so)

Sorry to ask you another question regarding the score, but you seem to really know your stuff. Regarding the Gotham's Reckoning parts 1, 2, 3 & 4...are those heard in the movie as one cue edited together? I also have the same question with the Fire Rises 1, 2 & 3 parts. Should I edit them together into one cue? Or are these split up separately in the movie into 4 different cues?

Again, I apologize for all of the inquiries, but you are the score expert on this movie! Thanks for all the help, 005.

they are sort of split in the movie?

there are some pieces of score missing to fill the gaps... so that's why i have them split

yeah there are sometimes cues that sound close to existing tracks, but are altered in a way
for example a background cue from Gothams Reckoning from around 3:30 is played without the rest of the instruments during one of the Gotham/No Mans Land montages (I think right before Wayne breaks his TV in prison)

DARTH, only a moderator would be able to change the title of this page... say someone like Amanda/Jessie. Get one of them to change it or if they see this, you can request for it.
As for the edit, I'll wait till the Blu-Ray release in November.
The next thing we gotta look out for is the VINYL, which releases September 1st.
All us audiophiles will be craving for it like crazy!

And thx for credits in the opening post. :)

you have the right tracks... just too long

its about 7:30 long.. maybe 8

- starts with the usual credits for about 1:30
- then it's Imagine the Fire for about a minute
- then a new mix of Necessary Evil with a version of the chant mixed in
- Why Do We Fall?
- the ending of the Wayne Manor Suite

Great work thedarkknight62 - just two things (if you haven't done so already)

The bit from "Fear will find you" - just take the bit from the original track and speed it up 5%.
And the first bit from "Imagine the Fire" at 0:29-1:30 needs to be replaced with the corresponding part of the Begins credits track, which then leads onto the rest of the bit from ITF.

Apart from that - fantastic :D

Thank you for posting this. I just saw the movie last night for the 1st time. Epic movie with an equally impressive soundtrack. My favorite piece of new music is "Plane Jacking" along with the variations used throughout the movie.

Thanks. Prefer this version over the official release. I think it's the best score of the three Nolan films.

Do note, that the Origins Z+ App still has tracks to be released. So chances are, we may have the complete soundtrack in a few months. Like I said, chances.

That's what I was reading. Don't know where, but I hope they were right when they said that there would be more goodies for the app in the coming months!

there was at the beginning... and when Batman showed up on the batpod... but yes... the bulk of it was no sound

I actually kind of prefer that in car chases.

Does anyone have the tracks from either of the following two scenes as there the two pieces i really want after seeing the film again the other day:

1. When Catwoman hands over Bruce's print to Stryver in the coffee shop and then the SWAT bust in, all the way through to the alley shootout.

2. When Catwoman leads Batman through the sewer tunnels and they team up against the goons on their way to Bane's hideout (Just before Batman & Banes first fight).

Coincidentally I absolutely loved those pieces of the score as well. Most of the renditions of the "Mind If I Cut In ?" track in the film were breathtaking.

Apparently the Blu-Ray is slated for release on December 8th. Got an agonizing 3 months to waste time till someone makes an expanded score or at least, rip the real end credits in full quality.

And in other news, the original soundtrack (everything till 'Rise') is getting a vinyl release today. Any audiophiles (besides myself) out there wanting this?

Does anybody have the extended cut of 'Gothams reckoning'? the soundtrack version cuts out a bit early, where as the film version sustains the drum/percussion that stops briefly then starts again after Bane says "yes, the fire rises!"

Yeah, the drums have way more tribal thunder after that line. But unless someone makes an original cover or they release an alt. version, we're screwed...

And...a much cleaner version from the end credits - pulled from Chinese R6 bootleg that came about a couple days ago, audio probably captured from FM source for hearing-impaired. Probably best version yet until sessions and/or the Blu-ray/DVD leak

I need help with a soundtrack cover. When the complete/expanded score releases, I want to customize it to look like this. It's almost done, but I feel it's lacking something. The colours feel a bit wrong, the "A Film By Christopher Nolan" portion looks like it has too much stroke.

Just tell me what you guys think.

You should reduce the size of "music composed by hans zimmer and put "the dark knight rises" at the top in order to strike the viewer.

pretty awesome man. Thanks.

Did you edit "Rise" yourself using "Sacrifice" "It Was The Batman" and "No Stone Unturned"? Or is it a direct copy of "Rise" from the Official release? It sounds great, and I love that you incorporated the JNH bit for "A Hero Can be Anyone"

Great stuff, thanks to both thedarkknight62 and scorepranos.

However, the file names indicate 50 tracks and a missing track 47, while the cover art has 49 tracks as included in the zip. Naming error? A clarification would be great, thanks :)
