He also did some tracks for D3 as well, so what the hell happened? New Tristram is quite a painful listening experience, when compared to Uelmen's original piece... So, in other words; ME NO LIKE THA NEW GUY. :(

This soundtrack is a natural extension to what Uelmen did. With LoD, he was evolving the musical landscape to one that was a rich, orchestral one. Brower simply looked at what Uelmen did, and what Uelmen was doing and continued it. And he did so wonderfully. This is a richly layered score that does not simply say: Here is what you are feeling, but goes into the psychology and the zeitgeist of each portion of Sanctuary.

A fantastic score. Brower hit it out of the park.

So is the concept music straight out of the Divine Comedy or what?

I agree that Brower was clearly striving for an extension of Lord of Destruction, but while the splendor of an orchestra may have meshed with Act V's mountainous terrain, I'm not so sure it serves well as the "trademark Diablo" sound. Particularly with the opening fanfare, I would have preferred something a little less bombastic. God knows how many times we'll be listening to this on the menu screen!

Actually, that is not the only theme that is played on the main menu! There are 10 files that are shuffled, randomly played, in the main menu. "And The Heavens Shall Tremble" are one, as well as "I Am Justice", "A New Dawn", "Leah", and others that are not on the OST.

Indeed!!! I'm a huge fan of melody. Guys like Matt Uelmen and Jeremy Soule have no trouble writing memorable, melodic scores. Russell Brower, on the other hand, is struggling constantly to convey "Diablo epicness" without the use of catchy, emotional-inducing lines... and don't get me started on how this dude butchered the Tristam theme. -a 6 year old could patch together a better song.- No kidding. I've been in music production for 8 years now, and I'm incredibly serious when I say, this guy can't write/score for shit.


*I guess at the end of the day, it's my own fault for having such high hopes. Maybe the forthcoming game rip will at least provide a couple of decent listening experiences. :O

Also didn't know that there was an anniversary soundtrack CD available, I've just ordered a copy as well. :)

EDIT: Listening to it now, and the score sounds awesome. The "Demon Hunter" was pretty hectic but exactly the way I like orchestral action music. The new Tristram theme sounds... different. It's not probably as catchy as that from the previous Diablo games but it's still unmistakably _the_ Tristram theme.

I definitely like this score.

The heck are you able to do that so quickly? I'm playing through it on Nightmare and I'm still having trouble identifying some of the music. So much of this soundtrack isn't even in the game!

Wait just a minute. When did I say I was making competition? The only thing I said was I could not identify most of the music. The most I've had done was extracted the music from the cinematics using the CE DVD. And besides, even if I was competing, so the hell what? By your own admission you are almost done with your rip. Why would you throw away all your work just because some guy started work on one while he was ignorant of your current work? That would be like me deleting some of my rips when I was in the final hour because I heard someone was musing over how difficult it was for him to extract the music. So dude, relax. Take a chill. It's not a big a deal.

Well your response to my question was as if you were making a rip, so I assumed there is no need for me to make one. And by bother finishing I meant release, I have some rips of my own that I never released simply because someone else beat me to it, I don't approve of releasing multiple rips and competition, I go by whoever is first, is the rightful one to do it. Just because you don't approve of my principles doesn't mean you should act as if I'm making a fuss. It's simply own personal code.

As for the rip, I am fully done with all the act music, all that's left is a couple of tracks I can't identify yet, hopefully with Doublehex's help I'll be able to do so, therefore release postponed until tomorrow.
