I noticed that there doesn't exist any game rip at all from the game here on FFShrine (aside from the one from 2007 (Thread 40727) with a dead Megaupload link...), only the Game of the Year soundtrack. While the GOTY soundtrack certainly is great as it has some remastered tracks, it only features the default level sounds (non-combat) and only a few combat tracks and one conversation theme, everything else is absent. I wanted to create a proper soundtrack for myself, and after 3 days of hard work it's finally complete: a COMPLETE soundtrack.

This is my first time handling such a popular game, but I hope I've done a good job with it. And remember: This is a 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) archive. WinRAR and the like might be able to open it, but if you encounter any sort of problem, play it save and open it with 7-Zip instead.

For additional information, see here:

Technical Information

I used OpenMPT to extract the tracks from the game's .umx files into .wav and converted them to .flac after that. Tagged with MP3 Tag and used the cover image from Wikipedia as cd cover embedded into each file.

Each area in the game has it's own file where all the variations such as the default, combat, conversation ect are stored. I had to experiment with the program until I finally figured out how to properly identify and extract each track. Aside from the singe-track files such as the title screen or ending, each file has 4 to 5 individual tracks.

The naming scheme from VGBdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/910) is used where applicable. A few tracks were named after the Extra Tracks (Thread 110211) - since they came from the old Eidos website, the names should be as official as it gets.

The order of each map/area/country music pack is as follows: Ambient (default), Combat, Death (each area has it's own unique death sound!), Conversation and Outtro where applicable ("outtro" is whenever the player uses a boat/chopper/submarine or is detained in Battery Park). Only some tracks could be identified as being outtros, quite a few of them are Unknown. I played through the game twice this month to make extra sure I identified each track properly, and the unknown ones simply couldn't be found on my playthroughs. I added them for completion's sake anyway.

Each track is looped twice, then fades out rather quick.

Specific Track Notes

The Paris Chateau level uses all of the tracks from the other Paris track, just the ambient one is different. That's why there is only one track of that level.

All of the club levels have a very short loop used as combat music.

Battery Park - Outtro is played if you're detained by Gunther after you leave the subway station. Chronologically-speaking it should be placed after Lebedev's Airfield, but I decided to keep each sub-track to its main category/map it belongs to.

Names Explanation (in case you can't recognize a track at first)

"Enemy Within" is when you escape from the UNATCO headquarters.

"Hong Kong Helipad" is also played on the Level 2 laboratories of VersaLife.

"The Synapse" is the Hong Kong market theme.

"Desolation" is the Hong Kong canals theme.

"The Nothing" is the theme of the underground tunnels beneath the Vandenberg base.

"Ocean Lab 2" is also used in the missile silo level.

"The Illuminate" is the credits music.

Both "DX Club Mix" and "Conspiravision" are bonus tracks that don't appear in the normal game. the file name of Conspiravision is "qoutes".

"Begin the End" is the theme of the short above-ground section of Area 51, everything underground is "Area 51".

EDIT: Forget I asked, read your whole post. Brain fart on my part, sorry! :)

Oh wow, great job! Let's see how it compares to that other rip you linked to,since I do happen to have it. :3

EDIT: Well,my big problem with this rip is really the fact that the tracks only seem to loop once.

EDIT 2: Not even,actually - every loopable track seems to abruptly cut off a few seconds short of a loop,which means that it'll be impossible for me to try and loop them manually. Otherwise,the quality is great,and it does seem to be even more complete than that other rip. What a shame. ;_;

I couldn't possibly know how various people prefer the loop. Sure I could've easily extended the various tracks or made them sound better when looped, but that would've made the files even bigger, and I have less than 1 MB upload according to speedtest.net. This rip contains all the existing parts from all individual tracks, so if someone wanted just that, the bare minimum, then the rip fulfills that.

Besides, many tracks sound good when looped (in Winamp at least). I admit there are a few odd ones like Majestic 12 Labs - Ambient, but like I said I can't please everyone.

However, if you're looking for something special, I can try to make a special version of the tracks you need. I'm a bit experienced in that category myself, I even know how to make .ogg files that have an intro and loop automatically (not sure if players like Winamp or foobar2000 can detect these automatically, so I settled down for .flac instead).

Are you sure about this? I'm not trying to demean your work in any way,you did a fantastic job. It's just that your rip is so damn close to the perfect, definitive Deus Ex soundtrack rip that I've always been looking for.

However,if you don't mind sinking even more time into this project to make it truly *COMPLETE*,I could give you a couple of pointers.

Well,one big pointer,really.

If a track is loopable, make it loop twice and then have it fade out at the beginning of the third loop. That's what you generally hear on 99% of the OSTs and rips out there. I try to do the same thing in my own rips.

If a track is a complete, unloopable piece of music with a definite beginning, middle and end (example - track 01- Main Title),just leave it as is.

That's it,really.

Whatever you decide to do,thank you for the work you've already done.

Ah, so that's what you want. Actually you're right, that's how every commercially-released soundtrack is structured. I preferred to be able to loop the tracks somewhat and without a fadeout it comes close to the in-game loop version (not perfect I know, but close). Also, I was just happy to get these tracks extracted at all XD.

Obviously I'm completely new to gamerips. If making a fadeout and two-loops in custom rips was the norm, then sorry I didn't know that. Maybe I'll make a new version, but not today.

I would definitely approve fade-outs. You're so close to creating the definitive version of the soundtrack. Don't stop now! :)

Ok guys, I'm currently in the process of making the new version of the soundtrack. I will make two-loop, then fade version of the songs where applicable. However, there are still quite a few tracks at which I'm hesitant to make a loop version. Aside from the non-level tracks (intro, ending ect) there are tracks that don't have any dynamic or seamless loop whatsoever.
A good example is "Paris Streets - Conversation" from my current rip. The game itself ends the track on a fade-out and resumes at the beginning. Even if I export the track with two sequences at each other, it sounds identical to me playing the single-sequence track in Winamp and repeat it.
In cases like these, I'd prefer to leave the single sequence version intact because really, would just make the file twice as big without any improvement whatsoever. Sure you can listen to the track twice before hitting the play button again, but at this point you might as well toggle "repeat song" in your player.
Don't worry though, everything else that doesn't naturally has a fade-out will be done properly, but do you demand a two-loop version of such tracks anyway?

k_bacon
04-02-2012, 10:27 PM
Nah, as far as it concerns me, it all comes down to some common sense regarding the two-loop thing. For instance, I once did a TIE Fighter gamerip where one track came out with a playing time of around 12 minutes. Did I do a two-loop version of the track? Of course not! As long as there is SOME sense of consistency, I really don't mind. I'm much more eager to hear you rip with proper fadeouts, as I think they're vital in creating a listenable soundtrack. I'm sure you'll do fine :)

A quick update for you guys: The rip is complete technically-speaking, I just need to decide whether to change the fade-out on some tracks or not (they don't fade-out fast enough and the track doesn't end on silence, which is what you guys want, right?). More importantly than that, however, shit just got real... again... (http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-57407346-261/mpaa-wants-more-criminal-cases-brought-against-rogue-sites/). I'll watch the situation closely and see whether Mediafire is a good option or not. It's my favorite and most reliable filehoster so far, if it goes down or actively starts to remove content I'm all out of options :/ . Besides, I won't upload 1,15 GB just to see it deleted the next day.
I won't forget about this rip I promise, but I won't upload it just yet. Please understand that.

Can't wait to finally hear it. This is the hypest shit right here. :3

Also, somewhere on these forums,I heard something about certain tracks being fully orchestrated in the PS2 port. Can anybody confirm/deny?

k_bacon
04-04-2012, 11:00 AM
@Zodiacmaster: What worked for me fadeout-wise was to let the beginning of the second (or third loop, if you're doing tracks that loop twice) loop go for 5 seconds and then put a fadeout over the following 10 seconds.

@NucleaRaptor: Yep, that's correct, at least for the main title. You can download the orchestral version of the track here: Deus Ex The Conspiracy - for Playstation 2 (http://www.deusex-machina.com/dxps2/music.asp) Contrary to the site description, it's just the main title that is available for download there. While Wikipedia states that several tracks were rerecorded, I've never came across other orchestrated tracks. However, I haven't played the PS2 version, so if someone who has can give some info...?

The rip has been completed a while ago, but is a whooping 1,15 GB in size. My upload speed is abyssmal and I kinda don't feel like registering on Mediafire just for that.

Then again, I owe this forum so much, it's about time to pay back the favor. It's gonna take a looong time, but I'll work on it.

I'm done! It took me the whole day but I'm done! The links for version 2 has been added to the first post, enjoy!

I should mention that this is my first time working on such a rip that requires creating manual fade-outs. I did made fade-outs, but they're very short at times. It sound like the fade-in kicks in on the last two seconds, but in truth it starts before that, but sadly isn't noticeable when hearing it. It shows when looking at the files with an audio editor though.

At any rate, there will be no third version of this, so take it and be happy. I have no time going through Deus Ex again with all the work coming up this summer and beyond. Still, thanks for the support everyone!

You can convert FLAC to any format you choose. The reason people share in it is that it's the most widely used lossless format (as opposed to, say, MP3 where you'll lose some audio quality). I'll go ahead and assume you're using iTunes, since every other player I can think of supports FLAC. To maintain the lossless nature of the original share, download eRightSoft's SUPER Converter, and convert the rip files to M4A (ALAC codec). These are Apple Lossless files that you can then add to iTunes without sacrificing the integrity of the file.

The zip file doesn't require a password, neither does the safelinking thing. Maybe it's because of the file format? Use the newest version of 7-zip just to be sure.
