Can someone make a compilation of all the NEW John Williams material please? I would do it myself but I’ve got no time with 3 jobs and a family. If someone would be kind enough to compile the tracks which have cues with additional new material from Williams or new cues not available on the 28 track Old Republic thread here. That would be amazing! I already heard several tracks from AOTC that are new which sound great! Looking forward to one of you patient geniuses to help me out on this! thanks

Heck yeah! We’re a hell of a lot closer than we were before. I’d say about 90%-95% is what we have now, only minor bits and a few cues are now left.
The interesting thing is now we have a truckload of AOTC music too, even if it is the film stem versions.

Seriously, that’s a lot of music. I’m really only interested in the new TOR stuff, so I think I might leave the sorting to other good folk who will hopefully be kind enough to eventually share the result of their efforts. By the way, are the ogg`s the original game files? I mean, are there not converted from other audio formats?
Apollox
12-31-2011, 09:32 AM
No, vorbis is the original audio format in the game due to wwise, only difference was they use different wrapper method (non-ogg) that isn’t standard, so ogg wrapper is changed to them and else quality/format is exactly same as original.

Actually, I kinda find this reply rude. Clearly Faleel didn’t know what you meant, maybe he didn’t read back far enough, but that was uncalled for IMO.
Obviously, the August beta had many more tracks than the final retail version did, but you didn’t explain that well enough, at least not in the PM you fired to me (and that was all I got to see before FFShrine got a database failure).

That rip SWFan posted is complete after all, the reason why there was more tracks in the beta is because they merged some of the files in the actual retail build. What used to be seperate ~30sec long cues are now full blown 3minutes long tracks.

Anyway the link is and anyone can update it or as I am also running a copy of the spreadsheet on my hard drive people could just give me a list of what they have found and I will update both versions. All I have really done is put down comments and notes that I make as I listen to the tracks.

Thanks Exar Xan; I see you updated the spreadsheet, that’s cool. I am nowhere near being able to confirm anything as I am just concentrating on listening to all the tracks and making whatever notes I can.
I did find a 40mb hashes_filename.txt file that looks like it could be useful but it is a) from the Beta version of the game and b) I can seem to correspond the names in the text file to the filenames of the .ogg tracks. A version from the actual game would be helpful I think (hope).

Yeah, this seems to be going above my head mostly. But I will keep it in mind to look for it. 🙂 Anyway I was also thinking about recording in-game vids with Fraps with my character opening the songs on the jukebox that we have not gotten on Youtube yet. Not sure how those tracks then loop or how much background noise will be heard, but atleast it couldhelp us with identifying other tracks I think.

Are the files names in a specific order? And how do you add new rows. I added comments on 1D8CD0CB_87ED5DBEBFFDDDD5 and 3AE43A9F_8CC010E15227DC14 – is that the correct way to do it? I know that 3AE43A9F_8CC010E15227DC14 is from Kotor2, but I can’t place where…
Doublehex
02-15-2012, 07:29 PM

Yeah my bad, my post was addressing Doublehex.
If you know for sure it is from KOTOR I or II just put that in the comment box, where it’s from is not important as this project is solely concerned with TOR tracks. New rows should not be added, if you ate listening to a full rip then a lot of the tracks have been removed (ie prequel tracks).

Please note on both vids that Fraps cut it of on its own after 3 minutesthis is a limitation with the AVI file type i think. FRAPS will split any recorded content into parts once a preceding part hits the max size. this aggravated me to no end until i read up on why it happens.

Oops, I meant TOR. If we know a track is from KOTOR (or anything not in TOR) then it is to be ignored. The plan is to gather all the music from The Old Republic to have a ‘complete’ score.

02-17-2012, 12:18 PM
Oh I know, but I am a sucker for checking and rechecking things so I was basicly checking the work of Tpiom, not that I was doubting him at all. He did great work! And all, except KOTOR 2, sounds indeed to me as how he said it. and for KOTOR2: I just dont remember that score well.

02-17-2012, 12:34 PM
Well yes I agree with checking and double checking and we will need to do that to finally identify all the tracks which will take several listens I guess. I love how we have new cantina tracks coming up that weren’t ‘realeased’ either on the soundtrack or via YouTube, makes all this worthwhile. Looking again at the track times of the cantina looks like there could be a couple more out there.
Oh and the spreadsheet is updated with all my info.

Well that is why my focus is on the Cantina songs actually: I am a huge SW fan, got most of the books and comics and whatnot, and therefor I am really continuity-minded (I even won a contest for writing a background for a background character, which has been made official – Niai Fieso, from The Phantom Menace: Niai Fieso on the Wookieepedia (
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Niai_Fieso)) – which is why I love those Cantina tracks, since it is all in-universe.

And thats all the official releashed tracks. I will do my best now to search high and low on the internet to identify the last 11 tracks. But I got a shaky feeling that out of these 11 I have heard a couple before and the only way possible could be for them to be generic Cantina tracks that play when you enter a cantina and don’t select a theme from the jukebox. But it is a feeling that I cannot confirm.

849F08C0_B9615A1AEAF564A7 – If Tomorrow Never Comes
ADE5445A_630ED7B697440557 – My Ol’Tibanna Man
The earlier Youtube link, as provided by WildWhiphid, names a few tracks that you will not see in the Excel list. These titles come from official sites of the composers, but they confirmed to me and Desaren that some track titles have been changed. We know that Take Over Porkins has become Boot Black and Bachani Blossoms and that Moisture Vaporation has become See You On the Dark Side.
So that means that there is a possibility that Spice is Nice and Sarlacc Almighty may be old names also considering they have not yet been found in the game.
Also added in the Excel file is a new sheet with a suggestion on how the final release should look like when it comes to order. This is also to track down what we need to do for it.

Carsten2011b
02-29-2012, 05:31 PM
I used the spread sheet to get the first of the two parts that make up the in game version that you mentioned, as well as the "Clash of Destiny" That’s in the Collector’s Edition soundtrack, both the original and instrumental versions. The second part of the game version was found by studying the track "The Mandalorian Blockade", which contains that second part for some reason. I highlighted the part in The Mandalorian Blockade track and found out that it was about 1.5 minutes long. I sorted the tracks by length and found that piece after a few minutes and it’s instrumental counterpart a minute later. So, in order, the overall track that I made consists of the "Clash of Destiny" song from the Collector’s Edition Soundtrack and then the in game track after that. All of this was edited in Audacity, which is what I always edit my tracks in.

So you basically stuck the 2:20 and in-game version together? Not sure how that works as a track tbh.
You could be onto something with the instrumental parts though, seeing as there is quite a lot of choral sections in the tracks it would be cool to make purely orchestral versions. Yeah Clash of Destiny appears in Bravado also. I made notes on the tracks to help me identify the tracks from the game, I can let you have those if you like?
Tell me, with Audacity is it not possible to out put files in the same format they were originally, in this case .ogg? It Judy seems a shame to transcode lossy files.

Well to me, both the in-game version and the soundtrack version are two parts of what could be a bigger track rather than having Clash of Destiny I and II. I don’t hear it in Bravado though. And yes, I would like to have the notes please, that’ll help me. Yes, you actually can export Audacity files into .ogg, but you need a plugin, which is explained here. Export MP3/OGG (
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/exportmp3.html) Sorry for the lossy files though, I prefer 320KBS .mp3 for my music, but that’s just me.

Well, I guess that makes sense but I think we will have to take a good look at it anyway because we then have 5 versions or something now:
1. Original released version
2. Original released version, no choir
3. Expanded game release
4. Expanded game release, no choir (assumed by me now)
5. Carsten’s version (and perhaps that also without the choir or with, forgot wich/how you added it, my bet)

It’s OK if we don’t have my version in there, I’m making my own separate soundtrack then what you all have planned here, though I’m still willing to help with the sound file finding for all of our benefit. Anyway, I did manage to use the instrumental and original versions to make a (non-perfect, I know) acapella of a part of Clash of Destiny, Balmorra, and The Agent’s Theme. You can still hear some instruments in them, but these are very faint. I actually did some fadeout/in editing on the Agent’s Theme and the Balmorra portion still has the instruments in it just to let you know hoe it sounds. TOR_Chior_Only.ogg (

Carsten I just find your edit a little too long and repetitive, liking the orchestral version, can you mark those files in the spreadsheet please.
What I mean with exporting to .ogg is whether it is possible to open the various .ogg files, edit them and save the edited file without re-encoding it? Encoding a lossy .ogg to lossy .mp3 is bad for quality but obviously if it has to be done.
Seriously you can’t here it in Bravado? It’s right at the beginning.
What kind of release are you planning if I may ask?
Carsten2011b
03-01-2012, 12:00 AM
That’s actually what the plugin does, opens .ogg files, allows you to edit them, and then same the edited file to .ogg, it just happens to also have the function available to .mp3s as well.
Really? It doesn’t sound like it to me.
I was thinking of a 4 disc release, I’m not that much of a fan of soundtracks that have a lot of songs in them (like 30+), it’s just not my thing. Here’s the overview of what I’m planning:
Disc One
Main Menu Theme
Faction Themes
Class Themes
Disc Two
Planet Themes
Conflict/Battle Themes
Disc Three
Instrumental/acapella version from discs one and two.
Disc Four
Cantina music, including instrumental and (if possiable) acapella tracks.

Thinking about it, with Clash of Destiny, we could have the CE version and the second part of the in-game version together, and then we can have the first part of the in-game as an alternate track. I was thinking this due to the face that the CE version is longer than the first part of the in-game version, but they both use different cues.

While we wait for the spreadsheet to be complete, (and while we play the game). I’ve gathered some songs to make a Mixtape Album. Most of these songs were mentioned on the SWTOR Forums as what would be their class theme song. The rest are strokes of luck that I found while doing random YouTube searches. I should note though that I couldn’t get the artists names in there without iTunes messing up, so I just labeled the album as "Various Artists" though the artists games are in the track list below. Is there a guide somewhere, or can someone explain how to use EasyMYP to extract the files/filenames? Won’t seem to work for me, no matter what i do… I’ve used Nova Extractor instead just fine in the past with other games and MMOs (LOTRO for example), and it works great with the TOR files, but it assigns random filenames and numbering for the extracted music files (over 1000), so there’s no way of identifying any by the end other than by listening…

Just got an e-mail back from Mark Griskey, on some questions I had, mainly about sheet music books, and here was his reply. He also shed some things about music on Quesh and Ilum.
"In terms of the sheet music, thats completely out of my control since Lucas Films owns the copyright… It’s something that I have mentioned to them in the past, but I wouldn’t count on it happening.
I also regret that I can not distribute any of the music for the same reason (copyright)… Sorry about that.
Yes, you are correct about Quesh and Ilum. We composed about 7 hours of original music for the game, but even with that amount we couldn’t cover every location… This could change with downloadable content in the future though."

Nice work, you got further than I did with contacting Griskey, I got a standard reply from his PA or someone. Have you tried contacting anyone else? Does Quesh and Ilum have different music in the game?
Carsten2011b
03-24-2012, 12:10 AM
No, I haven’t contacted the other composers yet, but I will someday. I actally asked if they did have their own themes, though I guessed they didn’t and instead had a mix of music from the rest of the game, which in my last post, he said I was correct on though more music could be coming with downloadable content. I actually told Griskey about an idea I had for making themes for Ilum by using wind chines, triangles, and glass to reflect on the fragility of the planet, maybe a hint to the force theme since the Jedi get their lightsaber crystals form there. His response was " I think your ideas for Ilum are spot on." so my idea might be featured on the game if music for Ilum is made. 😀 I also asked him about the wind-like music on Korriban, how he composed that part and he replied with this:
"It is indeed a male choir. They are all singing their lowest possible pitches and slowly and randomly changing the vowel sound from ahh to oow (opening and closing their mouths) This is similar in sound to the "throat singing" techniques of the Tibetan monks. I then layered Baritone Electric Guitar, played with an E-Bow, while pitch shifting the notes with a Whammy Bar… (google those terms if you dont know what I’m talking about) then I ran the resulting signal through some pitch shifting / delay signal processing effects. This is the "wind sound" you are referring to…. John Williams occasionally used synthesizers as a color effect in the star wars films, and this is similar to what my approach was here, but the processed guitar felt more expressive to me than using a keyboard for this situation.
A bit of trivia for you… For the mockup (demo version of the music that I need to submit for approval before we go and record it for real) I multi-tracked my own voice for the male choir, and this layer actually ended up staying in the final version because I like how my voice combined with the choir we recorded. (I think I sounded even more evil than they did 😉 My Baritone Guitar performance also ended up in the final performance. So I was acting as a performer as well as a composer on that track."

You are welcome! It may be huge, but it is very rewarding when you find an alternate cue or new bits from cutscenes (the only fixed music in the game).
Atleast the Cantina songs are complete now also. Well minus the title for just 1 of them that we did not yet encountered in the game.

Would you say the the KOTOR music tracks in the rip are of a higher sound quality than what was available via the KotOR 1 and 2 game discs?
No, they are not. TOR has 128 bitrate ogg files which are compareable with KotOR1 and 2’s compressed wav files, if not worse.
No, they are not. TOR has 128 bitrate ogg files which are compareable with KotOR1 and 2’s compressed wav files, if not worse.
First of all the KotOR 1/2 music is basically mp3 encoded, only in a wav container or some similar weirdness. TOR uses ogg vorbis, which is an inherently variable bitrate encoder, so you can’t really say it’s 128 kbps, but it is around that. VBR is obviously better already, in a small way, than a similar bitrate CBR. Not to mention that ogg vorbis is a better encoder overall than mp3. Fortunately, the KotOR music is good enough quality not to have artifacts or serious degradation, and the TOR files are only somewhat better, but it’s a completely false suggestion that they would be the same, or the mp3s of KotOR might even be better.
The biggest difference is: the TOR soundtrack has some of the fmv cutscene music from KotOR, while in the original KotOR files they can only be found as the audio tracks of the videos themselves, encoded in the horrible BINK audio format, in inferior quality, with a great amount of pretty obvious compression artifacts and the sound effects in them.
So it’s not only about a preference of audio formats (which can turn a little silly sometimes, I have to agree), but basically having more of the music of KotOR in decent quality.
Andrees
04-20-2012, 01:35 PM
You do realize that the compressed KotOR1 and 2 audio is in 192 kbit right? That’s around the same as ogg of 128.
You do realize that the compressed KotOR1 and 2 audio is in 192 kbit right? That’s around the same as ogg of 128.
Like I said, I’ve never dealt with Kotor 2. The music of Kotor 1 is in 128 kbps mp3, that’s coming from multiple software, plus the fact that everything above 16 kHz is gone; that’s the standard high-pass cut-off point for 128 mp3. Also, if you simply calculate the data rate of the files per second, you’ll get around 128 kbps as well. There’s no way around it, unless there have been different versions released with different audio quality for the music. I haven’t heard about that.

If you guys need a hand with identifying KotOR1 and 2 tracks, I’d be glad to help. Would be also nice for me to possibly add cutscene tracks to my expanded soundtracks of them.
Anyway I also have a complete hashlist for all the audio up to date with 1.2 patch. I also have a full rip of all the tracks from October 2011 beta build which still had track names and can easly compare the retail and beta tracks to give them their names. Not to mention some tracks were actually changed in retail, like the Main Menu Theme, so it would be good to have the beta one, don’t you think? 🙂 Hit me up with a PM with some means of communication if you’d like me to help out.

SWTOR fan, I have a complete hashlist for EasyMYP extraction up to date with 1.2 which extracts files with their correct names, just like the ones you pointed out. I also have a complete rip of the beta build from October when the files were still named so I can easly compare the two and slap the beta track names onto the retail ones, making it much easier for detection.

That is our goal! 🙂 The only exceptions we have made on this are with the Cantina tracks that featured the 2 Cantina themes from ANH and For The Republic from KOTOR considering that they are presented in the game as in-universe music. Oh and then there is a slight reworking of the original Revan theme that is also kinda new.

Hey guys, I’ve been following this post for a little while… The TOR soundtrack has become my absolute favorite "third-party" Star Wars music (even surpassing Xizor’s Theme from SOTE). Many thanks to everyone who has put so much work into this.
I can’t find the spreadsheet where you guys are updating the identified track list, though, looks like you removed the link. I’d love to see your progress (the version of the .rar I wound up with only has a few tracks sorted, and none tagged). Main reason is, I use music in my SW roleplaying game sessions, and I had the idea to give my players their own themes. So, essentially, making sure I have all the bits and pieces of each motif on hand would be awesome. If that’s something you guys are willing to put up (even a non-editable list of your current progress), I’d love to see it. I doubt I’ve identified any that you guys haven’t, but I would definitely let you know if I do! 🙂

Can I bug you with this question though? There’s a motif I can’t place… The main bit of 239F16DC_B7173A21F0324988 (not the force theme obviously, but the first part). I would love some insight on that; I just can’t remember where else that comes up.

It’s part of the Tython theme, featured in "Tython, the Wellspring" starting at 2:26 and ending about a minute later, with part of the end portion of the track overlapped with the beginning of the next track. And just as an FYI to everyone, we’re planning three different releases of the soundtrack. desarenezitic/Exar’s version, Andrees version, and my own version. A ringtone soundtrack release (for iPhone (and hopefully Android) will also be available soon 🙂

Thats alright! And we are still doing best to work as fast as we can on it. Phase 2 (identifying the tracks we already know from the cues we have) is making good progress, then its up to what we can find on Youtube and from my own made recordings on whats left of the cues and to see what else is new and identifable by game (cutscenes and backgrounds) to identify new stuff like the space mission music. So not much else to tell really.

I wouldn’t exactly say going well but with summer holidays out the way and work / personal life being a little quieter then there is renewed optimism. Our partners in crime seem to have ceased work so it is me and Exar plowing on alone.
Basically we plan a 4 ‘Disc’ release (not intended to actually fit on a disc nicely) and we currently have Disc 3 (all Cantina tracks) fully complete, the others are nearly there and then Disc 4 is planned as alternate tracks / cues and tracks purely associated with events in game (ie cut scenes) which is largely untouched. We currently have 70 tracks that are unidentified, some of these may belong to official tracks but the majority will be on Disc 4.
Andreees has previously stated that he has a complete list of meaningful track names but so far very few have been put against the has filenames we are working with which makes it difficult and we haven’t heard from him for a good while.
So there you have it, not much positive news I’m afraid. If anyone has anything to offer please let us know.

Are there really so many duplicates?

Right to answer those questions:
Carsten has produced a number of artwork designs for the discs, still to be decided 100% which we use.
The updated rip was updated in terms of removing movie and KOTOR tracks of which there are a lot. We plan an update and a sneak peak at Disc 3, hopefully Monday, I can give you facts and figures then.

Right so we have been threatening this update for a week or two so here goes:
Work is still progressing but it can be slow going! I’ll elaborate on some facts and figures for you –
A complete rip of the game contains 1119 tracks ranging from around 5 seconds to 3 minutes or more for Cantina tracks
We currently have 463 tracks identified as being from SWTOR at a running time of over 10hours!
That total will go up as we discovered some tracks were missing (mainly background / ‘mood’ music); conservative estimate would be another 100 tracks, total pushing 11 hours
That gives an idea of what we have to work with and through.
To answer the above question about the release (when it happens) it has been discussed to re-encode all tracks to mp3, this will be necessary for some tracks that are being mixed to create alternate versions of tracks released on the CE etc. If needs be we will make two versions available, original ogg where necessary and mp3, all still to be finalised.
Anyway enough of the ramblings, we have a little preview of Disc 3: Cantina Jukebox which contains all 36 Cantina tracks found in the game. The Cantina disc was a real team effort – Sander (Exar) and Carsten identified new tracks
in-game, often recording them and then finding the tracks from the rip whilst I managed to get in touch with Peter McConnell who gave some great information and eventually (once we found the original track names) could fill in the
artist details for us. The preview contains 3 unreleased tracks plus an instrumental of an already released track. The Cantina tracks were sorted into 3 genres and we have picked a track from each genre as follows:
Boot Black and Bachani Blossoms for cabaret
Under the Double Sun for big band
Carbines in the Wind for funk
Smeeleeya Whao Tupee Upee (instrumental)
Artwork is included, may or may not be the final version, hope you enjoy 😀 clicky (http://www.mediafire.com/?5axt3r5s9h8k7pr)

Star Wars: The Old Republic is not a revolutionary title, but Bioware has made great efforts to enrich the genre, at least in terms of atmosphere and history.
I like playing facebook games, because it doesn’t need to download a huge client. And I can play any games with my friends on facebook. Such as Heroes of the Pantheon (

Any progress news? Really looking forward to this release… 🙂
If I might make a suggestion (and feel free to ignore it if you think it sucks/hate it), since this is such a huge endeavor and with nearly 500 tracks according to your October update, wouldn’t it be possible/advisable to have it released gradually in parts?
I’m not suggesting this just because of the long wait, but my concern is that as with other projects i’ve seen over the years, there is always the risk that something unexpected might go wrong towards the very end and there will be little to show for the tremendous effort being undertaken here (this is especially the case when relatively few people are behind the core effort, which seems to be the case)..
Either way, thanks for the effort and have a great holiday season!

Original quality is always necessary please please please 🙂 Or maybe just release the program that you use to rip and then give us the names to put in ourself might be easier since we all have the multi-GB size copy of the game on our disks anyway? 🙂 If that’s possible anyway, I don’t know if you are doing very advanced stuff to get the files… I really appreciate it, I found this thread via Google looking for missing track names and had no idea it was actually missing tracks til I read the two threads here 🙂
So thank you so much will really look forward to the main release, would be so awesome if it’s not possible to let us get it ourselves if you release it full quality FLAC or OGG if they are already lowered into ogg as you are suggesting I have no idea hehe
I am not sure but I am thinking that possibly the Youtube HD/"original" quality videos that EA uploaded ( starting on youtu.be/MxaazYPjjd4?hd=1 (http://youtu.be/MxaazYPjjd4?hd=1) then click the little cog at the bottomright of the window to change quality to "original" (full list on youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB00B70E152D0304C) …. is probably higher quality than the MP3s they put on their site ( www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20111201 (http://www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20111201) ), the Youtube ones might actually be higher quality than the in game music too as well as better than those MP3s, if the game ones are really only OGGs… though I guess it would depend what quality Mhz the OOGs are at, like MP3s?
The low quality 192Mhz MP3s are on that swtor.com link
for the Youtube ones, you can download the .MP4 originals if you get Flashgot then reload the page a few times after selecting Original until Flashgot shows the MP4 option to download (you can also get .FLV files but I believe they are less quality from my googling, the original quality ones are MP4)
Of course both that and the youtube list is still missing loads of tracks, it might help you get higher quality for some at least from those youtube "original" quality files, I don’t know what the quality is so blah… but yeah putting as much info out as I have found 🙂 Good luck… I also posted on this other useful thread I found on these forums: Star Wars: The Old Republic – Collector’s Edition OST (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/star-wars-old-republic-collectors-edition-ost-102523/4.html#post2251427)

I’d just like to know, how much ORIGINAL music is there BESIDES what’s on the Collector’s Edition OST and the SWTOR youtube account?
Is there really that much more music besides those 60+ tracks?
desarenezitic
01-18-2013, 10:19 PM
Lol I’ll take this one, current count is pushing 12 hours of original music composed for SWTOR, that includes ambient background cues that aren’t really very ‘lively’. Not sure about this as I haven’t discussed it but we may have to release this thing piecemeal as I have hit a heavy workload at work so time is cut down and we have some stuff still to identify. You have to know that any choral piece has a non-choral instrumental version plus other extended or alternate cues and that’s just the CE tracks.
It is already stated that the original quality files (ogg) will be released in addition to any mp3 edits or conversions made.

12 hours of music NOT already on the 17 tracks from Collector’s OST and the 28 tracks from SWTOR.COM?
Wow…to be honest I don’t see where all of that music fits in the game. Most of the music heard during gameplay can be heard on the 2 released OSTs, at least it seemed that way.

No 12 hours less that stuff, so I think that makes nearly 9 hours of unreleased music? We have ALL the Cantina tracks which are usually around 3mins plus as the ambient tracks I mentioned are quite long (some at 2 minutes) and that isn’t music you would particularly notice in the game I guess.
There are also tracks that sound similar to the official tracks but aren’t part of them (Alderaan has a shedload of these).

Wow that’s a crazy amount of music to work with, I can see why it’s taking a while.
I do remember some of the background music that is faint, and actually that is one of the reason I am looking forward to this so much, I just didn’t realize there was so much of it.
Can I ask how you accessed the music files in this game? I’d like to poke around in there and see what’s what.

You can ask and you can use Google, that’s how I did it. I do have help from someone who is awesome at the extraction side but I can’t post any of his secrets or tools that he made specifically for this cause, sorry 😛

Hey there… just another long-time follower voicing my support. I use the existing tracks in my SW RPG sessions; the class themes actually allowed me to give each player his/her own theme, which is pretty awesome. Always wanting more, and especially looking forward to hearing all the common themes, sorted together. It’ll make my search for motifs so much easier!

Will your RIP include music that was added in the patches 1.1 to 1.6 or just 1.0 music? Would be bad if only 1.0
Will you release the tools to rip the music once you release? It would really help people since nobody released such…

All we need to do with this is isolate and remove the tracks from the soundtrack that are from the movies and keep the stuff composed for the game.
Simple as that.
rcavanah
01-27-2013, 04:26 AM
Rogue_Ledr: Those are pretty easy to identify, seeing as their volume is maximized differently than the game’s original tracks. Of course, you’re right that those should be removed, but as for the others, some of us are actually looking forward to the full identification and tagging of the tracks based on their place in the game.
By the way, dunno if you guys have noticed, but some of those deep, spacey background tracks are actually just 5x slowed-down versions of other tracks from the game.

You need EasyMYP (rename the .tor file to .myp), ww2ogg019 (to convert the Wwise sound files found inside) and revorb.exe (to fix the extracted .ogg files).
It’s not that difficult in the end. But it’s a lot of work. I think there’s a command to make ww2ogg convert all the files in the folder at once, but I don’t remember.
EDIT: OK, found it on my computer. You want to put all files (the music .wav files, the ww2ogg019 files and revorb.exe) in one folder, along with a copy of cmd.exe, and insert this: for %f in (*.wav) do ww2ogg.exe %f –pcb packed_codebooks_aoTuV_603.bin
for %f in (*.ogg) do revorb.exe %f
I’m not a command line expert so maybe you’ll have to try it in different ways, perhaps you could make a batch file.

Just to clarify on the tools (not that I need to) but as stated by myself and StarWarsFan786 the tools are out there for people to do the extraction, just need to do some searching for yourself and learn how to do it. The tools I used are not mine to release in any case and I had someone very kindly make me some tools that aided with the automation of extraction and renaming folders etc, again these were made for this project and are not mine to release to everyone on here.
@ Rogue Ledr: I wish it was as simple as that!!
@ rcavanah: I hadn’t realised about the 5x slowed-down background tracks, thanks

What i mean about liberties is that you merge tracks as you seem fit rather than how its in the game, mixing, cutting them and so on. Every single "custom soundtrack" i saw here are like that and i doubt this will be different.
I know about easymyp from xentax and i have extracted all the stream files as of latest hashlist update but obviously they lack filenames.
By what you say it seems your tools also extract them with proper filenames, like they used to have in the beta (ex music_event_desperatemoment_08_mxanakinsbetrayal_s w3_0502_3959c1d5) rather than random numbers.
Thats why im so interested in those tools…
What new music?
In beta it had 1043 tracks, in 1.0 it rose to 1100 and now in 1.6.3 its 1137 tracks which means obviously new music was added.

You doubt very wrong. We present all cues with apprioriate titles and in an order that fits. But there is zero to nothing that will be edited together to make it sound nicer. As far as I know, and Desaren can confirm this, the only editing we do is with the alternate tracks of the CE. They are all made out of cues and officially mixed together, but we add versions to a special Alternates Disc that brings the cues that have been cut-off in fully, so we have say Domination, The Sith Empire that excists out of 4 cues, with 1 cut-off midway, now as all those 4 cues mixed together in the same way, with only the midway-cue fully in it.

He just said he can’t release them because someone else made them… obviously someone not directly involved in the project. It’s that person’s business, and nobody has any right to suggest otherwise.
I don’t think he ever implied that the tools automatically identify the tracks. That seems to be the part they’ve spent so much time on. I got the impression that what desaren is describing is essentially a macro, used for setting the filenames/tagging in batches (right?).
Anyway, TORFan, even if the tools were more useful than that, why would you want these guys to release something which could potentially get their whole project shut down, after they’ve already put so much work into it? And tell me, what reason would they have to lie about the editing? Nobody serves to profit from this. No benefit comes from lying about it. I know you’re talking about me and I’m sorry for that but between EA’s direction with the game, my hard drive with 3/4 of 1.2 named with beta names dying and being busy with things overall I just gave up. I’m still sad that they went out of their way to make ripping files as inaccessible as possible when Blizzard doesn’t protect their files, it’s very easy to get them and they have enough names to help you set up a whole score. Also I’m not angry that you guys aren’t releasing the tools and I know full well it could get EA lawsuit on your backsides, I merely politely asked about it. If there’s anyone to blame it’s the TORfan guy with his ungrateful, in my opinion, attitude.
Still I’m interested if your tools extract the filenames from the string nodes in the other files, do they? Just curious and it would be nice to know the filenames of the new files.
For others interested I can supply clean, unnamed rips of beta, 1.0 and 1.2 and maybe latest patch once I care enough to redownload the game.

I know there is much hate for it by the experienced RPG/MMORPG players, but I am not 1 of those, I am an casual gamer who loves SW for the rich stories the universe has to offer and I am a tourist management student who loves to travel. Nothing beats TOR in travelling to worlds of a saga that I love.
Considering you were (based on your ‘have experienced’), let me ask you a question that is releated to a debate between me and my good friend Desaren (and he is drafting a fuller post about this matter, with both views of the coin highlighted, so I am bit stepping on his toes now – sorry mate): How well do you remember the cutscene music? And what are your views regarding the randomness of the music, as the makers claim it, it is very random?

Just to chime in on this. I didn’t mention the kriffing tools in the first place, OK I did use the word tools but only in response to soemone asking about how we extracted the tools. For the record we first worked on a rip provided by Doublehex, then I learned (yeah searched the internet, read posts, read some more and read them again, tried and failed etc etc) how to extract the music myself, which I did. Someone not wholly related to the project figured out how to get the names of the files and provided me some automated versions of stuff out there to make it easier (the idea being to help us get the music to you quicker). He asked that I not share them, I agreed in the interests of the project.
I am quite surprised at some people on here who know what it is like to have there stuff shared in a way they don’t want it shared.
Also while I am at it, as Andrees said he was working on this and along with Carsten that’s it; 4 guys, some longer than others. I have a question and it has nothing to do with asking for a release date!
I was wondering if this might be an on-going project. Seeing as the powers that be are planning their first expansion called "The Rise of the Hutt Cartel" which adds a new planet called Makeb, I wonder if the fine folks here had an interest in grabbing that music for a separate release down the line. (One would hope they’d have new music to go with all of the other new content.)

It’s a good question, we will include some of the new music for sure and already have stuff for Makeb (DISCLAIMER We don’t have any titles yet from in the game and nothing to work to, just 13 tracks). When it is out we will work on it and did always plan to release new music from any expansions.

One idea: Somebody should back up the existing TOR audio file, so that the duplicates can be eliminated and new music isolated down the road.
Of course, I’m pretty sure Desaren and Exar are already doing that, but anyone else who’s worried about losing track of what music you have and don’t have… that’d serve as a little insurance.

Right long post coming up, bear with me! As alluded to earlier we have an issue with naming and presentation of some of the tracks. As an example I’ll use Nar Shaddaa, The Playground.
It is made up of the following cues from the game (in game name in brackets): –
9DC8FDBF_C6234A8374CE4CE4 regionevent_narshaddaa_calm_02
17747715_A52AFD05C5EA8FFA regionevent_narshaddaa_sweepingmystery_01
49CC6D99_D7B27FC5DDB96D2B regionevent_narshaddaa_tense_01
6BC73083_7FA83B007582C87E regionevent_narshaddaa_mystery_01
AD5D350B_4A6CC154659541BB regionevent_narshaddaa_calm_01
714FF9A1_ECF22B05D691EEA7 regionevent_narshaddaa_mystery_02
With the following additional leftover cues:
3906730E_83721FB8059FB878 regionevent_narshaddaa_sinistermystery_01
86B3B783_514B2C2703AD0975 regionevent_narshaddaa_unsettled_01
These would probably be called something like Nar Shaddaa: Sinister Mystery / Unsettled and presented on Disc 2 with the ‘parent’ corresponding theme.
Now we have around 40-50 tracks (plus a whole bunch of very short cues) that are not associated with a planet and have general names such as event_sinistermoment_03 or action_lowintensity_flashpointraidmix1 and regionevent_spacestation_main.
The discussion point is how to name them for release, my view is release as is with the names from in-game whilst my good buddy Exar would like to tie the tracks to events or cut scenes in the game; we have a few named already such as Taris – Confronting Cin Tykan (in game names: action_lowintensity_mysterioustension, action_lowintensity_flashpointraidmix1, regionevent_ilum_main).
So our question to you guys is what do you think would be best and why? Not only do we want to know the best way to name the tracks but also for those who play the game how much repeat music do you notice, especially on cut scenes (NOT including movie themes or music taken from CE tracks) because the music engine in the game is supposed to generate random cues and Exar believes the music on cut scenes to be fixed and always the same.
I don’t necessarily disagree but I say that whatever cue is used for a particular cut scene will also be used elsewhere in the game in many places.
rcavanah
02-04-2013, 08:39 PM
Personally, I’d say a planetary/class/character theme designation is definitely needed, just so that motifs can be grouped together… looks like you’re good on that front. Then, the finished product would certainly look better with something more than the basic filenames, but I don’t think it should detract from the descriptiveness. Maybe include an info file where you list the themes used in each track? Then everybody’s happy.
desarenezitic
02-04-2013, 08:45 PM
Well the cues that make up a CE track are not planned to be released initially, just the CE track along with the leftover cues. I had planned to release all cues as named in game later anyway as a separate thing.
So for example you’re saying a track named Tense 01 that we match to a Quesh video you’d call Quesh: Tense?
rcavanah
02-04-2013, 09:31 PM
Sure, something like that. Cleaned up, but still descriptive… because, even if it’s used elsewhere in the game and someone has trouble finding it (for instance, maybe they heard it on a different planet, but you labelled it Quesh, etc…), they’ll probably check all those odds-and-ends tracks first anyway… no matter what they’re named.

Making a good point there. Cause I really still believe that the odds of music repeated in a different cutscene is low considering all the repeating music I heard was ambience only while cruising a planet. And then also only on the same planet only. So i am bit difficult in accepting what the composers keep saying that the music is random. The only randomness appears for me with random attacks (could be bosses, could be important storyline characters, could be random mandalorians during a sidequest – even then I keep hearing moviethemes like the AOTC speeder chase), flashpoints (that i barely did but noticed 3 themes so to speak while playing the Alderaan thrice in a row) and perhaps the same with spacemissions. And if they have it then same goes for warzones that I never did yet.

02-05-2013, 03:41 PM
Personally, while it would be nice to have names for the tracks, it doesn’t make even the slightest bit of difference to me. I say just release the music as is, with filenames, and let people change them if they absolutely must. Not only does figuring out names for all of those files take a long time, but taking tracks changing the names to something YOU can identify with is impure for the rest of us. I’m gonna guess most of us don’t care about filenames, but those that do probably want to know what the original filename of a track is, not a made up track name.

02-05-2013, 04:46 PM
^ Yeah, that may have been a more direct idea of what I was saying. Except, I don’t think they were ever saying they would volunteer a name; it’s just a question of whether certain ambiguous cues would be loosely matched to certain planets/sequences (which I do think is a good idea, just to prevent stragglers; the alternative is a whole segment of the disc with 40-50 random 1-minute-or-less tracks and that’d be a bit hectic to search through).

True for the ambigious cues. However we have cues that fit perfectly against a cutscene also. The question for those are: Prefer to see them with a name befitting the cutscene (I tend to attach the mission title to the cue for clarity and to avoid a totally out-of-place-volunteered-name) or as generic Tense 01 in case they may have repeated elsewhere in the game?
rcavanah
02-05-2013, 05:24 PM
I’d say both, actually! Do attach it to the mission, as a subtheme of the planet where the mission takes place, but keep an element of the original filename (i.e. "Tense") so you don’t have to use the "01" on the end. I think that would be a nice touch to make it feel more like a quality custom soundtrack, but without all the pesky editing that people seem to want to avoid.

This is probably the route to go that would suit everybody just fine. As long as the tracks are in some sort of order I just don’t think that many will mind what the tracks are named, but the more track info the better I guess.

Well we’ve got all the info you could want really, the problem is the generic stuff, Tense 01 being an example but many of these tracks have multiple names as the game uses ‘playlist containers’ with some tracks appearing in multiple containers. I’ll try to give examples tomorrow to better illustrate what I’m on about!!

Well, we were also thinking of adding a booklet to the release with stuff about how it was made, my talk with 1 of the composers (or selected quotes only, depending on how much we could get away with it, I realise its a fickle line to walk) and then some information on tracks. So the original names could be added in that also.

Yeah we could just transfer the info from the spreadsheet and put it under the specific track or just tidy up the spreadsheet in a less congested format for release with the booklet??

Whoa, calm down everyone! I am SWTOR fan from the Xentax forums and have been helping out Desaren with getting the filenames for the music.
Dataminers in general have a very ungrateful job. They work during their freetime because they like a game, but they do not get any money for it. What’s worse, whenever they release a tool, people who do not know a thing about computers will use that tool to batch extract all the files, upload it somewhere and get all the credit for it, without mentioning the tool they used.
Because of that, I have decided to not release any tools. However, I am willing to share my research with other developers and want to work together with people like Desaren who respect the work it takes to analyse a file format.
As you are well aware, the game uses Wwise to playback the music. Since I enjoy the music very much, I wanted to help Desaren in getting the filenames.
If you are interested in how the music works and why it is not so easy to get the filenames, I recommend watching this video Wwise Tutorial 11 – Creating Interactive Music Structures – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvnt3tbL3OU&list=PL11C806BBAAF252CA&index=12) and the follow-ups.
Even though hcs’s tool is great to convert the proprietary format .wem to .ogg files, the files themselves only have numbers but no names. For the connections with the file names, I had to analyse the proprietary Wwise Soundbank format (see specification (http://wiki.xentax.com/index.php?title=Wwise_SoundBank_(*.bnk))).
Here’s how the music gets into the game:
The composers record the music and put it into Wwise. Then they created multiple events, e.g. "Play sad background music", "Play heroic background music", "Play cabaret cantina music", "Play Coruscant theme", etc. The game designers put these events into the dialogues.
For example, here you can see an extract from the quest "Chasing History" on Taris (Republic):

When you view the dialogue, the "background.sad" event is called. This sets switch #3998872777 to value 44357635, which plays the playlist container #1060380027.

This container plays one random track from 14 different choices:

And these numbers once again refer to "Music Tracks", not files. So once again I need to look up the Music Tracks under the given id to get the file name numbers.
For example, here are some recordings of the quest, a different sad music is played each time: SWTOR: Chasing History quest (Taris) [KotOR reference] – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drcDAnnf1Ng&t=4m45s), Taris – Chasing History – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rPzgFd4N0g&t=5m01s), SW:TOR – Part 46 – Chapter I – Taris – Despair in the Promised Land – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaXmryPLkHM&t=1h43m57s), Taris: Chasing History (Part 7 of 8) – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysL7RmMtqsQ), SWTOR Chasing History – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZagMrWfl6M&t=8m16s), (Lets Play) Star Wars: The Old Republic EP 74: Chasing History! (TEA) – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtu_eW9q5Ao&t=13m32s).
Of course, my program does all this automatically, but I hope I could explain to you why it was so difficult to analyse the file format.
If you consider Wwise to be a little bit of an overkill, I wholeheartedly agree. There are many settings that the composers did not make use of, but then again I think the music is good enough the way it currently is.
The reason why you do not notice the music is just what Jesse Harlin predicted one and a half years ago: STAR WARS™: The Old Republic™ – Music of The Old Republic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrziiQcJwjs&t=4m42s). If you are continually viewing cinematic videos, you will notice that there is background music, and certain strong mobs have a combat music and victory music associated with it as well. Additionaly, every area of a planet has a certain theme associated with it. As soon as you enter a new area, you will hear such a theme (about a minute long).
However, if you are only standing on a planet doing nothing or occupying the fleet all day, don’t be surprised that there is no music. The ambient music is, like Desaren already said, very quiet, very stretched and not very melodic.
So all in all, I helped Desaren with connecting individual files to the names the composers gave the music. Nevertheless, Wwise works with ids and therefore does not include the original names in the files, but only the numbers.
I can tell you which 14 tracks contain the sad background music, but I cannot tell you whether this music is from the movies, the KotOR games or original music.
As much as I try to help Desaren with the analysis, a lot of work has to be done manually since the information can no longer be found in the files.
And yes, the new music for Makeb (you can hear it in the background of the RotHC: First Look video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbNzUwBIbNU)) has been added into the game with patch 1.6.3. Since 1.6.2, I am tracking the patches and will know when new music is added to the files.
Back around 1.4 or 1.5, I gave Desaren a complete list of all the music, so I am pretty confident that we are not missing any tracks.

Look at me all you want, but this doesnt change anything 😛 well it may in some cases, but if I am reading it right (SWTORFan, correct me if I am wrong please) this says that some cutscenes have randomness, or does this go for every cutscene that there is a selection like sad that has 14 different combinations? Or are there cutscenes that just say: Play this cue/file only?
SWTORfan: Great post, very insightful!

02-11-2013, 06:47 PM
First of all: Every time there is music played during a quest, it will be one of the Music Playlist Containers. The files Desaren has are grouped by those containers.
Some containers only contain one cue, in which case you will always hear the same cue. But if there are multiple files inside one container, there will either be only a random of those file played, or all files in sequence (e.g. for combat music).
By the way, I sent Desaren a list of which quests play which music container, and I hope I can clear up some uncertainties that way.

So am I right in deducing that you guys are compiling all the music from the game?
And that it’s taking ages because there’s so much and the ripping process is so complicated?
Or is this an abandoned effort?
I check this thread daily, because I’d do anything to get my hands on music from SWTOR.
For all the hate the game got, the cutscenes and the music were absolutely amazing all around.

The most time-consuming task is not the ripping of the music – we have already done that – but the sorting.
Even with the file names, Desaren and his team still have to listen to the music manually to determine if it is actually new music or just reused music from the movies.
Also, they are listening to the officially released tracks (from the Collectors Edition and Youtube) and are figuring out which of the music has been mixed together. For example, the Tython remix contains Jedi themes, and the Smuggler remix contains Action themes. Nevertheless, there are certain planetary themes that are not contained on those remixes at all, and they have to figure out where to put them.
This job cannot be done automatically, but only by hand.
Keep in mind that this is a free-time project and that any real life issues will push back the release some time. Last I heard, Desaren and his team are still working on the music, now trying to figure out where to put in the new Makeb music.
If you want to be up to date, I recommend subscribing to this thread via e-mail. That way, you will get an instant notification as soon as the music is released.
Keep looking forward to the release, it won’t be much longer! 🙂

Thanks for the info. And aye, I meant the sorting as part of the whole "ripping effort" basically, making the entirety of the process complicated.
And I’m definitely looking forward to it.
I believe these forums are where I got the Clone Wars Republic Heroes rip some time ago, and it’s my most prized possession, since it has a bunch of tracks used in the animated series as well that aren’t likely to ever be released officially.
But a SWTOR rip would just be priceless, if my experience playing the game was any indication of its music file contents.

If I may add, it’s not just that.
The unsorted music would also mean all the pieces from KotOR1,2 and the movies being there along with the music made specifically for TOR.
It’s quite a mess also because of EA’s very messy filesystem that relies on hashes and containers that are called up for specific places rather than the very ordered structure of for example WoW’s music.

Even if they’re already released elsewhere, this’ll sort of be like a comprehensive encyclopedic collection, won’t it?
The game seems to have just about all the music ever used in any Star Wars media, minus The Clone Wars animated series, but all that music (or at least most of it) is available in the Republic Heroes game rip (Thread 129424).

I totally understand wanting to make a "complete" version, all sorted out. However, what I am suggesting is that you just release what you have for people like me that really don’t care about sorting, or in fact we can do our own sorting.
That does not mean you can’t still make a complete version. I think you would make a lot of people happy just by doing this, including myself. Also with the lack of updates etc, who knows if this will ever be finished. Seems like a lot of work.

Just a note: If you want something unsorted, the full rip was available, and I’m sure you could find it on Soulseek or the like. Thing is, it’s absolutely chock full of random cantina tracks, bits from the movie scores, and old, synthy KOTOR music. I know you don’t think sorting matters, but you really don’t know the full magnitude of the chaos within that zip file.
Personally, I’d prefer that they don’t take the risk of re-releasing the unsorted rip; it’s just one more thing that might get them in trouble before the final release, thus making that final release impossible. You could try to get someone elsewhere to upload the rip, though; these guys are working on this project independent of whomever uploaded it originally.

Hello!
While I have not had contact with Desaren for a while, I am still analyzing the game. The last time I took a deeper look at the music was with the Makeb music of 2.0. Since then, they have continously added new music to the files.
In the beginning, they were just reusing music from the films, but there has been more and more music where I am no longer sure whether it is original or reused music. Because of that, I decided to upload all of the new music since 2.0. Since I am sure that you know much more about the Star Wars music than me, I hope that you can tell what the original music is.
Download swtor-new-music-2.1-to-2.5.zip from Sendspace.com – send big files the easy way (http://www.sendspace.com/file/bp8xsj) (42 MB)
I organized the music by the time it was added to the files.
part1 is full of action/battle music from the Star Wars movies. I am assuming that it is used for the Czerka flashpoints on CZ-198, the PVP arenas or the upcoming Space PVP content.
part2 contains a lot of eerie music that sounds original to me, but I am not 100% sure about that.
Also, take note of 426969947.ogg and 699100364.ogg. Those seem to be variants of existing SWTOR music.
part3 contains the music that was added for 2.4. I suppose that you can hear that ominous music in the Oricon daily area and operations.
I don’t really know what to make of music_media-592362058.ogg. The beginning sounds like playful Cantina music, but then it turns into something entirely different. I don’t remember ever hearing that music in-game.
part4 is the music that is included in the current PTS version (possibly for 2.5). I am not sure what it is for.
Also, I very much like the music used in the "Best of PvP" Trailer (Star Wars: The Old Republic "Best of PvP" Trailer – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61Qa5uefRZ4)), which seems to be a variant of the epicevent_maintheme_choir music. Unfortunately, I could not find this exact version in the game. In the main theme you can hear in the Character Selection screen, the background strings are much louder, and the solo trumpet does not sound nearly as sad as in the trailer.
I wonder how many versions of the main theme they recorded, or whether they created the music for this trailer by just mixing the tracks differently.

Part 4-2.5:
47310223 (Ep3),
134393978 (Ep1),
715315047 (second half of it is from KotOR… remix?)
306920135 sounds like it’s from Episode II… the scene where Obi-Wan fights a Droideka on Geonosis. Not sure, though…

Here’s what I could identify so far:
From part 2:
125900643: Episode II, Kamino
407027688: Alderaan theme
426969947: Music used in the "PvP Arenas of Death" trailer

Thanks SWTORfan! Hmm… it looks like a lot of the music in Part 4 is new music, the pieces with the tension-sounding brass.
Anyway, I need some help from the community as well. I basically have everything sorted and ready for mixing, but there’s one problem. We have a folder of some Undecided cues and I’ve been trying to find if they are some kind of music from the KOTOR series, from the movies, or form TOR. If anyone can help with this, it would go a long way into finishing this.

Thanks SWTORfan! Hmm… it looks like a lot of the music in Part 4 is new music, the pieces with the tension-sounding brass.
If you mean 129905249.ogg, that piece is also contained in your undecided folder as 29AEBF64_2613DDE7B81286E5.ogg, so I do not think it is new music. All the other pieces from the part4 folder sound like remixes of existing music to me.
If you are talking about part3, then I agree; 253348338.ogg, 501900896.ogg and 563415397.ogg must be the new Oricon themes.
Regarding the undecided music:
9588EABB_5C14E65AC1B10E09.ogg doesn’t sound like music from the movies to me, but I may be mistaken.

In the undecided folder…
05EDAF5A_AFCCC78AA20F4C40 = KotOR… at least… I think it’s a remix, it’s when the Star Forge goes down but then it changes.
I can say that 039E0FA1_AA9902D93918EE2E = KotOR. I know it! It may be the main menu or Revan’s reveal or something… I have heard it before.
57E32343_060CA05CE3B26847 = the first part is also from KotOR, when Leviathan is roaming above Taris – the second part sounds like it’s from Revan’s reveal / Bastila fights him / flashback cutscene.
142FFC9C_C358875055A2BE90 = …pretty sure I’ve heard it from the films somewhere, sounds very much like John Williams to me.
201D35AC_DFEB6C2EE66F2BB4 = this keeps using the KotOR "loud thing" – the second half… as I said, it’s when the Leviathan is above Taris.
991F94F2_5B40B27ED19C8ABE = This is all Episode I music… sounds like a remix from various parts.
9588EABB_5C14E65AC1B10E09 = KotOR. It’s the flashback cutscene.
AC40F914_9840C1ACFE95EC48 = I think this is also KotOR, maybe the underwater cutscene on Manaan
E9B55D34_224A76A89E824489 = KotOR for sure.
EB69D128_B1B42F5211C87827 = KotOR for sure.
EFB8469D_4A3BD611DBE38C0A = From the films, if I had to guess it has something to do with Anakin in Episode I or II.

As Tpiom says, 05EDAF5A_AFCCC78AA20F4C40 is a KOTOR-ish theme; the beginning is similar to 55.bik and there is a hint of the Sith theme, but I don’t recognize it as any particular track. Could be previously unused.
16ED24F6_04D4D0D8D32E0C57 is from K1’s mus_area_enclave from KOTOR.
AE744049_29614C466DEF04C6 is mus_a_001 from K2.
I think B3084D76_D8351A8007CD57D7 and C00D50E7_FEA5D235E27F4D12 are both from KOTOR, but I can’t place them.

Woah! I haven’t been in this thread for a long time obviously! I had no idea Carsten even shared the undecided cues folder, I’m assuming it’s the one from my DropBox shared folder we use.
I have a list of the ‘undecided’ cues which I can put up on my Google Drive so people can add notes on tracks they are sure are not from SWTOR; that will cut down some of those tracks for sure.
Also we were going to ask if anyone was interested in making some covers for the ‘Discs’ we have? Carsten has made some great ones but Exar and I thought we’d throw it out to you guys as well, obviously people make their own custom covers for these things anyway so why not have some choices on release.
Oh yeah I mentioned release, as an update we have Discs 1 – 4 done pretty much (minus covers and some tagging) and the Disc order is as follows: –
Disc 1 – General & Class Themes – this is all CE tracks apart from Revan’s theme made from two separate cues.
Disc 2 – Planet & Event Themes – this is all CE tracks, nothing new
Disc 3 – Cantina Jukebox – All the cantina themes from the game including instrumentals
Disc 4 – Backgrounds – This is the quiet ambient music which someone pointed out earlier in the thread is slowed down parts of CE tracks but as such is all ‘new’ / not released
Disc 5 – Alternate Themes – This (to me) is the most exciting disc as it contains choirless versions of CE tracks and some alternate mixes. Carsten was working on this and we have some working edits to check through. Not sure how busy Carsten is currently so may need an editor / mixer on board.
This leaves the undecided cues which are a problem on how to tag and release them but if we can get the above out that will be good. Anyone making artwork can PM me for fonts etc if they want and just a side note that those Disc names may change (I recall Exar had some other names for them, not sure).
Carsten and Exar correct me on anything that isn’t right 😉

Well, we almost got almost all of the undecided cues handled (there are about 6 more than need to be identified), so we’re pretty much good with that. I’m still up for mixing BTW. 🙂

Right but do we have a concentrated list of cues from the undecided folder and where they are from (i.e. KOTOR etc)?
On the alternates we need to just listen and make sure we’re happy; one thing I do know is we need a straight up choirless version of Occupation of Balmorra and an alternate version that uses B4D25B1D_D995147486EE82B5 as the opening. I think the version you did was a combination of alternate opening and choirless.

Are you including the progressively new released music from the newer patches? Or will those be separate releases?
desarenezitic
11-05-2013, 02:01 PM
For me it would be handled separately, I have music from 1.6.3, some Makeb background stuff, Makeb main and 2 finale pieces plus some marked as stingers (short 20 /30 second pieces). I also have some marked as _new-2.0-unused, not looked at the new stuff for a long while and would need to get in touch with my source to see if there’s anything since.

Very happy to hear that progress is really coming along with this release. I have extracted all the music myself… but labeling it was way to over-whelming. Instead I devoted my time to saving memorable audio clips that are repeated frequently such as battle barks from bosses or just funny sounding to my fiance & I such as Khem Val’s hello’s he says after being summoned.

I don’t really want to slow down the release any further, but the 2.5 Galactic Starfighter expansion is adding roughly one hour of new music and I’m sure you want to include it in the release as well. 🙂
I haven’t listened to all of it yet but from the sound of it, the current maps on the test server only use some of the tracks and a lot of music is still unused. The space pvp theme sounds very similar to the SWTOR main menu theme, but then continues differently and it is not as majestic as the main theme.
This expansion is definitely adding a lot more music than 2.0, even though content-wise it’s feeling smaller.
The music_media-592362058.ogg theme once again makes a resurgence. I previously called it a cantina theme, but it may be related to the space pvp.
Be aware that some of the music may be related to the upcoming Rakghoul event or the Kuat daily area/flashpoint; I guess we’ll have to wait and hear.
Enjoy!

Previously, I wrote that the music does not sound very majestic, and I think I know now why. A lot of the tracks use synthesizers instead of real instruments, not because they reduced the funding for the music but because I believe that the composer wanted to evoke the feeling from the older arcade shooters that did not have instrumental music. Therefore, even though we know the melodies, the style is totally different.
Also, I looked up the names of the music to help with identifying the tracks. 🙂
Automatically matching the tracks to these names is a lot of work and I cannot invest the time into it at the moment, but I hope that this will help anyway.

I apologize if my previous post sounded really pushy. I’m on a ton of pain meds for kidney stones and misread what Exar Xan said in his earlier post. I thought he said that it was only he covers holding up the release but reading it again between doses of meds I realize that was not the case. I understand that you all are super busy with real lives and that this has been a huge undertaking. I think that it is safe to say that we are all very anxious for this release. I had suggested a while back about releasing a LP of four or five tracks to give us a taste of things to come and to tide us over until the main release but nothing had come of it. I still thing it would be a good idea but respect your decision on this matter.
I will wait as long as necessary.

Those are in the complete rip, unless someone has an old complete rip then they won’t have those file names anymore though as they are the Beta release filenames. It’s not even that. The Flag Parade is wrong, the Battle of Naboo is mixed incorrectly in places, and the entire finale from after Qui-Gon dies is not the film version at all (though it’s actually from the sessions, it’s still the exact material found on the original soundtrack).

The unorganized files are a mess, duplicates all over as one track is used for more than one in-game event. We’re talking several GBs. It’s just not something I’ve looked into as I don’t just want to release unorganised files. Also I think I have said that if someone wants to take a look and find a better way to get this out there then by all means let me know.

Personally, my reason for wanting them is to get music that’s featured in Kotor, but not among the music files (in cutscenes, for example, obscured by noise), or just to get the music in better quality (because Tor music files are better quality than Kotor ones). That’s because I’m a fan of Kotor and its music, but not too interested in Tor, and don’t even feel like starting to look into getting the game and ripping the music just for this, when someone has already done it.
It’s not exactly breaking the barriers of human achievement these days to upload several GBs of data, there are a number of free services for exactly this. So I just don’t understand why it seems like it’s beneath you to share the original files, especially on this forum, which is even more about sharing than the internet in general.

Really, I can understand the ‘it’s only a few GBs’ but as I’ve said before in these threads I am busy in real life plus I don’t have great Internet so it’s not that simple
As I said all files are unsorted so if you had them all what would you do to find KOTOR files? There are hundreds of them.

By listening to them, obviously. I know Kotor’s music pretty well (since I like it), so it doesn’t take much more than a few seconds, in most cases, to tell if a track is needed or not. Even with hundreds of files, that’s a fair bit of work, yeah, but not exactly a task that’s beyond human achievement. Please don’t worry about me wasting my own time.
You are, of course, not in the least obligated to provide anything here. But zipping up some files and pushing them online isn’t hard, so the worst you’d have to endure is your upload bandwidth being taken up while it uploads, or it taking a long time, if you have especially crappy internet, but even then it could just run in the background.
More than one person here seems interested in the original files, so please give us some basic level of respect, and be honest about it: you can’t be bothered, or maybe think that you deserve the stuff, but not us idiots who don’t know how to rip it, or don’t even have the game, in my case. Because no possible excuse or reason can keep you from doing this simple task for years (since this has been asked before), so please don’t take us for fools. Thank you.

Fair enough, you must know it pretty well if it will only take a few seconds! I’m not worried about your time or what you do with it.
I know it isn’t hard, wanting to release it in a meaningful way, working on it for several years (on and off), taking some music you used to love and working on it for the good of the wider FFShrine community to the point where I don’t listen to the music anymore, having to deal with people’s expectations or moaning, that is the hard part.
Yeah I can’t be bothered, I’m left with something I don’t want, I don’t deserve it more than anyone, as I said I don’t even listen to the stuff anymore. Tell me, you’ve been here for 5+ years and made 10 posts (2 in this thread), what actual contribution have you made or do you just come for the downloads??

See? I do prefer your honesty. Even if it’s ultimately disappointing.
I don’t like being questioned though. Still, if you must know, whatever I create I usually put on YouTube, like this thing for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieet50Y9EmY I might as well have uploaded it on here, just didn’t think of it, to be honest. Look around on my channel for anything else you might like. I’m ready to be judged as a creator of things other people might enjoy and download. Basically I’m not a fan of forum-based sharing of such content, that’s all. But if it makes you feel better, making assumptions based on my post count, then good for you.

Lol and where was I dishonest? You don’t like being questioned? I sure as hell don’t like being accused of being dishonest.
I couldn’t care what you’ve done elsewhere since you’ve no idea what I do outside of here. Really cannot be bothered with this so am just going to leave it. Won’t be doing anything until the new year anyway, thanks a lot.

Also I think I have said that if someone wants to take a look and find a better way to get this out there then by all means let me know.
Seeing as Andrees said . . .
I’d try to make my own take on this, but sadly you guys don’t want to release your tools, and making a release of my own without a way to extract the music with filenames kinda makes impossible to do anything.
. . . perhaps you could request to SWTORFan to release the aforementioned tools to Andrees. I’d think having more folks working on this would speed things along. Seeing as there’s a new expansion recently, it would be even more important to pull more people in.

Andrees was in on the project at one stage and he left or stopped communicating with us at least. I’m no more in contact with SWTOR fan than anyone of you so all I could do would be PM him on here or hope he shows up.

I would also recommend this post of mine:
Thread 185816
It includes all music from 1.0 to 5.0. It also has links to all extracted English dialog.
No mp3s though… sorry. I wanted to keep the original quality OGG files.
I also made posts to SWTOR reddit as "cheetordude", so you might have already seen it there.
