The night was quiet; I was on my way to meet up with some familiar faces. The times had been rough, my life was changing rapidly. I dont know why I chose that path on that particular night; all I know is that I needed some time away. I figured What the hell? maybe I can finally get my head straight. It would be a night not long forgotten, not because of what happened, but because of during the time it happened. So I didnt think twice, I packed up and went straight out the door.

I made my way down an old road in the country, somewhere about in the middle of nowhere. Thats when I saw what I needed to see, the reminder I needed to open up my eyes. The stars lit the endless fields, the wind gently brushing across them. The endless sea of stars called to me, thats when I knew where I wanted to be. That sky sent a chill through my heart; I almost forgot how beautiful the world could be. There was a time when I lived to see such an amazing site. The setting sun, shining brightly across the vast plain, the only sound is that of the peace in my heart.

I arrived shortly thereafter only lock my doors with the keys inside. No one was even home, the bastard told me to wait fifteen minutes before leaving, I waited twenty. Just like him though, never able to keep on schedule. I had no clue what the hell was in store for me, no clue when or if they would return. Thoughts crossed my mind of sleeping in the old car on bricks sitting under the light, what choice did I have. To my luck they showed up about fifteen minutes later, not wasting anytime to criticize my situation. Of course they solved the problem right away, so I went in for a drink. The alcohol went down rather easy that night, seeping through me like my thoughts.

Somewhere along the line I found comfort with these faces, as I once did before. We enjoyed a good time and had some great laughs. I even met a new face, I didnt know him very well but he seemed to be an all right guy. The time went by without us even taking notice; I came along knowing other plans were ahead. Truthfully I didnt want to be a part of it, I was quite satisfied where I was. After another drink I couldnt make sense of any reason not to go through with it. We decided quickly who would go with whom; I ended up with an old friend and the new guy. We headed down that dark road, our minds straying quickly from the path ahead. This new guy seemed good enough, little to his knowledge that his proving grounds were less than fifteen minutes down the road. It would a time that didnt test the size of your muscles or your ability to speak down to your oppressors, but the size of your heart. We sped down the dark narrow road, next stop: destiny.
