アキラ
Symphonic Suite Akira 2019
Composed and conducted by Ōhashi Tsutomu in 1987.
The soundtrack to Akira has a curious release history. Back in 1988, a sometimes harsh sounding and partly clipped CD was released, its 1994 re-release showing only slight improvements. 2002 marked the release of a DVD-Audio (Thread 87528) but it proved untrue to the original album and robbed it from its musical energy. Unfortunately, the same can be said about the 2016 remaster, which is merely a glorified stereo version of the multi-channel DVD-Audio.
As a long-time fan of the music, I decided to take on a rather huge and complex project to improve Akira’s sound. While wonders can be done with equalizers, filters and other techniques, I chose a different approach which seemed more organic — remixing.
Of course I don’t have access to original multi-track masters. For my remix or layering project I took the 1994 version of the original album and enriched its sound with select parts of the 2002 DVD-Audio’s 5.0 content which gave it a little more room, depth and volume.
Sounds simple. I could elaborate on which micro-edits had to be made, synchronization issues, time spent on research and graphics and how two little babies delayed it all for over two years …
But just give this one a listen — I hope you find it as satisfying as I do.

I’ve loved your previous work on the Symphonic Suite AKIRA 2002, I can’t wait to check out this new edition! 😀
Re left of course 🙂
grateful thanks my friend

Sorry. :/
again many grateful thanks my friend
It was very pleasurable to listen the instruments in a different quality, sometimes that pop out. Considering that I didn’t notice even a single edit, that would prove that you did a very remarkable work, Eisengeist! 😀
The only things I would change would be having "Kaneda" without the opening thunder (but I guess it’s a trademark of the original mix… something that many would find fitting as an album opener), remove the track "Illusion" entirely (it’s not that it sounds bad… I just don’t like the track itself) and I’d use the 2002 mix of "Requiem" as that’s the one I find much more nuanced in the softer and "ethereal" sound of the choir and the percussions being more appropriate.
But those are all preferences due to a dozen listenings to the 2002 mix.
In all I would say that your work is stellar!
Thanks for putting so much work on this soundtrack!

Thank you for your detailed review. And the kind words. 🙂
The opening sound effects of Kaneda are, yes, like a trademark and were – at the time – a musical choice. When I listen to the 2002 version instead, I find the opening without sound effects a little boring and lifeless. I tried to soften the volume and adjust the sound effects’ tone to better suit the rest of the album, so at least the loudness is bearable. 😀
Yeah, the 2002 version has a very different mix — but most of the time it is way off. On the other hand, that made it the ideal material for this project and the project itself even possible.
Haha, yeah, the opening of Illusion I can listen to anytime. But for the rest, you gotta be in the mood. 🙂
Indeed!
Thanks for the share
You’d have to post one more time to receive private messages.
Those that don’t, may be aware that it’s safer this way and the links can live longer. I have a rather large collection of links. If they’re all public and scanned and reported, re-uploading them every week can be quite a hassle.
Some that don’t offer public download links, request the user to write request directly in the thread, so the thread gets more attention. But in the end it’s 99 pages of "Can I haz?" and no substantial or even interesting discussion
If you don’t want to go the extra mile and write less words than you just did ("I dont get it…") to get some free content, everyone will be perfectly fine with that.
Just seemed like extra work for you & extra strain on the forums severs with all those pms of ‘link please’ ‘here you go’ ‘link received’. but if it truly saves your links from going dead, then, fair enough.

Maybe I’ll have to wait for it to update or something. ^_^
Link recieved, much appreciated!
:smug:
but….
i thought there was something more to it. :/
I mean… more tracks? xD..
there are unreleased tracks, that seem forgotten in time. I am amazed how there has not been yet a complete soundtrack release…..
