How would I go about deleting my forum account if at all possible?
If not, would a kind soul amongst the moderators or administrators be able to grant me this simple wish?

Accounts don’t get deleted here.

If you’re wondering where that text I’ve quoted comes from, log out of your account and look at the top of the forum’s index.

Obviously that’s not the whole truth..

Accounts can be deleted, there is a database where all the data is stored so it would really surprise me if that is not possible.

I think it’s more accurate when you say that the mods or the admin don’t want to delete the accounts. Why? I don’t know…

Why? I don’t know…

I think it deletes all that user’s posts from the forum, which isn’t helpful to anyone.

I can hear silvershadow now: "B-but I don’t have any posts! I haven’t posted here once in ten years!" First of all, ten years and zero posts? Fuck you. Secondly, historically FFShrine has never deleted accounts, and making a thread about it after 30 other people have asked the same question doesn’t help your case. I assume that most of these threads are made by people who are worried about employers or authorities of some sort finding out about their illegal activity… sorry buddy, you’re here forever. If you want a laugh though, here are other threads made over the years:

Not sure if all posts would be deleted.

In other forums the username will change automatically to ‘guest’ (or something similar) if someone deletes his account, so the post is there but no attached username.
A similar methode is possible here, you can change your username if you request it but your email and IPs will be kept in the database.

I think it should be possible to erase the email in the database so that there is no more personal information available. That way you don’t screw up the database.

Are the IPs logged and/or deleted after a periode of time?

We had a member here a couple years ago who actually did have his account deleted. All of his posts vanished too.

That’s-a-me. Some asshole found a way in to delete an user from existance in the forums.

Also, Sarah’s first account, too. Kinda?

It’s forum policy not to delete accounts. Don’t like? That’s too bad.

You know the first thing I tried to do? Search the forums. Guess what problem I ran into? I lacked the privilege to search. If I had to ask why, my first guess would be that accounts with 0 posts could be created en masse with the right scripts and perform searches to DDOS the web server this forum is hosted on. This kind of protection is a good idea, it just sucks for newbs like me. No need to make an ass out of yourself; I realize that I had a stupid question and wasn’t the first to ask. At the very least, I gave a reasonable effort in self-service.
