Expanded Score from the FYCs | 4 For Your Consideration Promos
Hi everyone, dear Shriners!
Here I present something I’ve been thinking and working for quite some time. Back in winter 2015, the Paramount promotional website uploaded 4 different versions of the FYC Promo for "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, composed and conducted by Joe Kraemer: the first version had 56 tracks, the second 31, the third 53 and the fourth and last 31.
Since I’ve loved the film and its score, I took all 4 Promos just for the sake of collecting them from this thread (Thread 197350), this other forum (http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25719-2015-for-your-consideration-studio-sites-featuring-music/) or ripping them from the Paramount website (http://www.paramountguilds.com/mission-impossible-rogue-nation/score/) myself.
With time, I’ve always wondered what differences there were between all those Promos and if the combination of them (and the official releases) provided the Complete Score or even the Recording Sessions. So, about last year, I started comparing at the same time all of the versions avaible (4 FYCs, OST with Bonus Tracks from La-La Land, a poor-quality DVD rip) in order to list all of the differences and provide the largest release of the score. The problem was that there’s too much material to work with and the more I went on the more I was confused. It was a seemingly endless work. I even started a thread (here (Thread 210099)) to get help and post my "discoveries".
So I started again with smaller steps: I took the two longer Promos (56 and 53 tracks) and compared each and every track, listing every difference I could find. Then I did the same for the two shorter Promos (both 31 tracks).
The Longer Promos don’t have consistent differences (there are no Alternates, but the first have 3 bonus tracks), the wave forms are evidently similar but don’t match 100%. Maybe they’re from different rips and downconversion of the same files. Also, the Longer Promos have higher frequencies (22 kHz) and basically low volume.
The Shorter Promos have the same identical files (they match 100%), all except a cue with a longer intro. Also, the Shorter Promos have lower frequencies (16 kHz) but are enhanced or mastered in some way, including a higher volume.
Then, having the Longer and Shorter Promos in two sets only instead of four, I compared each and every cue of them, listing all of the differences (and there were many!) to finally assemble an Expanded Score sourced from the FYCs released back in winter 2015.
So, after dozens (maybe even hundreds!) hours of hard work and careful listening of this score, in this thread I finally present:
the Expanded Score from the FYCs (77+ tracks)
all the 4 versions of the FYCs
By the way, if you’re already looking for custom covers for the FYC Promo and/or the Expanded Score, check the Official Custom Covers Thread. I took these at page 440 (Thread 90457).

Expanded Score from the FYC Promos
Music Composed and Conducted by Joe Kraemer
Standard Set
192k mp3 | 215 MB | 77 Tracks | 2:36:27
Bonus Material (Double Tracks + possible Alt. Takes)
192k mp3 | 28 MB | 11 Tracks | 20:52
Here’s the Expanded Score I assembled from the FYCs. By "assembled" I mean that I took the cues and put them in the album only changing the tag. No edits, no volume changes, no mixes, no silences removal have been done. Here’s a table that shows from what FYC I took what what FYC (the longer or the shorter).
Ok guys, this table is the instrument that allowed me to list all the cues and all of the differences. As I compared each and every cue with Audacity, I kept updated this table to slowly form and assemble the Expanded Score.
Without this table, the Expanded Score wouldn’t exists at all.
Here’s how it works:
On the left column there’s the Longer Promo (combined from the 56 and 53-tracks FYC).
On the right column there’s the Shorter Promo (combined from the two 31-tracks FYCs).
The middle column is the Expanded Score I assembled. Each cue of the Expanded Score comes from either the Longer Promo or the Shorter Promo, an you’ll see the "original cue" either on the right or the left column.
I also added the cue’s number-in-album so that it’s easier to find the corresponding cue (if you took the individual FYC Promos).
The Longer Promo I used for the left column is the 56-tracks version (FYC 1, it has 3 more cues, the others are identical to the 53-tracks FYC).
For the Shorter Promo on the right column I used the FYC 2 (all tracks but one are identical, but the titles of this one are easier). The only different track is "Apartment / Morocco" from FYC 4, which I added below the track "Morocco" from FYC 2.
You can see that there are some colours in the table, here’s what they mean:
– Blue: these are the "Double Cues". These cues are indentical both in the Longer and Shorter Promo. They basically are interchangable, and if you want to change it (because the Shorter Promo cues have higher volume) you can take them.
– Green: these are the "EDIT" cues in the Expanded Score. They offer no different material, but are official edits of other cues, possibly close to the Film Mix.
– Purple: these are the two "maybe Alt. Takes". They may be alternate takes of the cue, but I’m not entirely sure. They sound identical, but they differ in the wave form. You can download these two cues from another link.
– Red: I’m not really sure about what they are. I should have painted in red also "Havana (maybe Alt. Insert?)" but I forgot to do it
Notes:
The cues titles are basically from the Longer Promo. The cues sourced from the Shorter Promo have been renamed to match with the matching cue from the Longer Promo. Some other titles have been modificated so that they can be more clear ("Clean Ending", "Full Version", "Short Edit", etc. have been made by me). I wanted to match these titles with those of the slates, but it’s no easy task. I’ll leave that job to a future bootleg.
The cues with "EDIT" in the end of the title are just edits of other cues already existing in the set. Those edits were not done by me, but were already part of the FYCs. They do not have differences to those other cues, but those edits are probably closer to the Film Mix.
Most of the Alternates in this set consists in the presence of the metronome as an instrument (which happens a lot). Out of all the cues with metronome, in the Promos there were also the version without the metronome. There are also "more consisting" Alternates (with different notes, instrument, orchestrations, etc.) but are not as many as the others.
In some cues I wrote "UNKNOWN CUE". This means that I found a cue with the tracks A, B and C mixed together and also (on another Promo) the A and C tracks alone, unedited and with their own title. This means the B section has an unknown title, thus I named it "UNKNOWN CUE" in the A-B-C cue.
Two cues, "Havana" and "Benji Changing Clothes" were not easy to identify what they were. So, I just wrote "maybe Alt. Insert" in the first and "maybe Unused" in the latter because that’s what I think they are, but I cannot be sure about it.

Bonus Material (Double Tracks + possible Alt. Takes)
These are all cues from the Shorter Promos, so they were posted on the Paramount website with higher volume and maybe have been enhanced or mastered in some way. I left them out of this set, because are not essential to it, but can be nice or useful additions.
The "Double Tracks" are cues from the Shorter Promo that are 100% identical to those presented in the Expanded Score, but feature those enhancements that might be interesting to some. If you want to check those cues, you can take them.
The "possible Alt. Takes" are two cues that sound 100% identical to those in the Expanded Score, but have completely different wave forms, at the point that I could even find a matchin the entire cue. My explaination is that they might have been enhanced so much to have "drastically" modifyed the wave form, or are Alternate Takes, which means, that a same cue have been recorded twice, thus as much as they can sound identical (they are on paper) they are different since they are different takes of the same cue.

ENJOY!!! :awsm:
In the end, if you consider how much time I invested into this project (or maybe only in writing down this thread!), or if you simply appreciated my uploads,
please consider leaving some reputation as well! 😀
Please could send me the links? Many thanks! 🙂
Thanks for your kind words, Mr Gold and Lady Amalthea!
EDIT: Link received….Thank you very much my friend! 😀
I’ve just had some bad internet connection for a few minutes… I had to log in sort of 5 times each minute!
May I have the links, please?
Thank you so much for your work!
I have to go now, bed is calling! And Internet constantly logging me out!
Thank you very much, Imperivm!
Thanks in advance.
And as a bonus, here’s a cover I’d made awhile ago (with an expanded variation made now to fit with this set):
Your contribution is breathtaking! 😀
Thanks!
–EDIT–
Link received. Thank you!
Can you please send me a link
Can you share the link(s) please?
Highly appreciated! 🙂
Kind regards!
This Expanded Score might help you to do it! 😉
Wow..this looks like a labour of love…
In some way, yes it was! I really loved how Kraemer used the Mission Impossible theme, from the very very beginning of the film, and found his score refreshing for the genre, from the action pieces to all the rest.
Though, Kraemer’s style isn’t my cup of tea… So it was for me quite difficult to dive so deep into this score. I basically started this project because I didn’t want to have all four FYCs without knowing which one had more unreleased material. I did this to make some order.
If wasn’t easy because there were 4 different sources, and the audio quality (192k) isn’t really the best when you’re looking for small and subtle differences in the music…
So, this thread, right here is, at the same time, both a dream come true and the end of a nightmare!
This must’ve taken a while. I am very interested. 🙂
You can say it, man!
Wow, awesome edit! Never know so much score was missing from the album. Can I get a link? Thanks!
Actually, this is not an edit 🙂 I simply took all four FYCs and made some order 😀
And, yes, there was so much music missing. And there’s still some missing now!
Thank you so much for your work!
Thanks.

Link received very quickly, thanks a lot!
Very good job, 5 stars!

I guess all that work finally paid off then! I like it when a user makes a thread as comprehensive as this. Interesting that there are no slates, but I suppose a lot of the track names are too different to bother with. Anyhow, I hope you do well in your future projects!
And as a bonus, here’s a cover I’d made awhile ago (with an expanded variation made now to fit with this set):

Hey, thanks for the cover, HunterTech! 😀 You know, being a completist, I couldn’t make something not for completists!
I have still many projects, but they require much time! I hope to finish at least a couple of them within the summer.
As for the slates, I litterally rejoiced when I saw DAK posting them (here (Thread 196285)). But unfortunately, they offered little help. The some cues of the slates (especially in the first act) are completely out of order, and don’t offer slates to all the numerous tracks found on the FYCs. For example, what is called "1m06 The Record Store" represents 3 different tracks mixed together. For the opening sequence with the plane, the slates "offer" only 2 names, but with the FYCs we can see more than two cues. The OST track for the opening even give more material. Also, with some untitled slates and the absence of the alternates, it’s pretty difficult to match every track to its slate. It is mostly possible for many tracks of the second and third acts, with some exceptions, but I don’t like having works half done. I prefer to wait for a full recording sessions to leak (with all slates attached) or someone else to to the job.
There are slates and they’re in my thread
The tracks and slates don’t match entirely. There’s much more cues than slates.
I know there are slates. I just wouldn’t know if they would match up with the names here.
Right.

I really enjoyed M:I-5. The sort of fun action flicks the Bond films used to be, and Rogue Nation was far better to SPECTRE (and I say that as a huge Bond fan).
I agree! 😉
Many thanks in advance!

this soundtrack is a created job or avalaible in store?
Would love a link for this, please.

Definitely NOT avaible in store! Not sure what you mean by "created job", but it’s all legit, nothing "fan made" by me. I just did a compilation of all the different cues from various For Your Consideration Promos released on the Paramount promotional website back in the day 🙂 Nothing more, nothing less 😀
Thanks for posting! Now that your inbox is unlocked, I can send you the links 😉

Of course! But your inbox isn’t yet unlocked. You need to make a few more posts 😉
Nothing yet :/ That’s very strange. I saw another user have his inbox unlocked with 4 posts. Now you’re at 9 but yours isn’t unlocked yet. Try check the settings and the FAQ.
Okay! I’ve posted a few more replies on score’s I’ve downloaded, so I don’t know if it works now? 🙂

That’s really odd :/ If not, I could always PM you and see if that works? 🙂

I tried to send you a PM, but I got a message that says:
sjm10 has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.
It must be some kind of setting.

I just had a look at my settings and Private Messaging was allowed. I’ve fiddled around with it to see if it works, so it may work now?

You can try that, but if your inbox isn’t unlocked you cannot PM me in the first place.
