Man, I can’t believe the absolutely worthless, sickening posts that some people make here.

The other series I was reading over a year ago for the second time was the first phase of the Warrior Cats books by pseudonym Erin Hunter. Books 1-3 particularly are absolutely incredible. I’d love to see a faithful film adaptation (oxymoron, I know) one day.

Yahoo! news. It’s been confirmed Sam Smith will be performing "Writing’s On the Wall", the theme song for Spectre. I’m disappointed as I do not like Sam Smith, but who knows. I don’t like Adele either and SkyFall is one of the best Bond songs ever.

I’m totally on you with this, without the optimism. Thing is… at the time of Skyfall, Adele had already gone above and beyond in establishing herself as a phenomenal artist. She’s rarely had a miss. Sam Smith will likely never be a musician of her calibre.

I always try to be optimistic, because you never know how something will turn out. I was not happy about Adele and now I love SkyFall. But you’re exactly right, and it’s the same thought I had: Sam Smith is not on the same level as Adele was 3 years ago. I think he’s won a few awards, but by that time Adele already had several Grammys under her belt.

Theatrical & Director’s Cut look to be the same transfer as all previous releases out there.
Except the Theatrical cut will have "color correction".
Given SF’s history (Ravenous), I am skeptical.

However!
Disc 3 will have a newly 4K Remastered transfer for the "International Cut".

Kept thinking of Age of Mythology the whole time. If it was just humans only.

Another write off for Warners in a very bad year that includes "Jupiter Ascending," "Man From UNCLE," and "We Are Your Friends." Warner execs are probably sacrificing goats and praying "Batman v Superman" becomes a license to print money.

Guess I won’t see it now though.

I’m sure there are a fair amount of original screenplays and ideas floating around in Hollywood… it’s just the executives who have no idea how to make films trying to piggyback off someone else’s success with, as you say, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, reboots, etc., which becomes a greater priority than utilizing the original ideas.

I Know A Lot Of Recent Films Have Been Based on Books & Video Games, But At Least Its Different.

However, Hollywood makes prequel and sequels because 1) audiences like them because a majority of the viewing public are intellectually lazy since, 2) prequels and sequels are pre-sold to audiences, you don’t need to start from zero and explain them and 3) occasionally a sequel such as "Jurassic World" becomes the years biggest money maker (that is until "The Force Awakens" hits the screens.)

So until audiences get behind and support original films, prequels and sequels are here to stay.

Hook, I Love That Film, But I Adore Robin Williams’ Films, Hook Always Was A Fav When I Was Young, I Enjoyed the Peter Pan Film (The Jason Issacs One) It Was Fun, Well Cast And Great Score (Disney Always My Fav) But Pan Didn’t Really Appeal To Me, I Will Watch It When Its Cheap And In The Sale Bin.

Yep. The irony is that I believe you can download only the first 8, there’s no option for all 22.

I think if you had direct access to Disney, you might be able to get all 22 tracks.
But, since third-party vendor, just basic stuff for 5.1.

Ant-Man has made, so far, $500 million worldwide. So much for it being the ugly stepsister to Marvel’s Avengers: AoU or the departure of Edgar Wright would doom the film, as some forecasted.

This morning I saw something on The Today Show that absolutely blew my brain. Apparently Starbucks has redesigned the look of their annual holiday cup and people are up in arms over the change. Like, REALLY up in arms. As in folks are so furious that it’s become national news.

Seriously? Over a cup? I guess these stiffs are angry because they feel this year’s cup doesn’t accurately represent the holiday season. Gone are the snowflakes, snowmen, and mistletoe from years past and in their place is a simple red cup with a green Starbucks logo. As a result, Starbucks now stands accused of waging a war on Christmas. ARE YOU PEOPLE FOR REAL?

We’ve got ISIS planting on bombs on passenger planes, children being sold into sexual slavery, millions of Syrian refugees wondering where their next meal will come from and you folks are screaming about a cup? If that isn’t absurd, I don’t know what is. Tell me something… How does this even begin to compare to the REAL problems we face? Like the single mother who struggles to put food on her table? Or the grief-stricken father who’s losing his son to cancer? There’s absolutely NO comparison.

And it’s only because your life is so blessed and carefree that you even have the luxury of getting your Rudolph the Reindeer knickers in a twist over something so petty. So Starbucks redesigned their cup with a minimalist theme. So what? It’s not a war on Christmas, an assault on your belief system or an attack on traditional values. It’s a cup. Plain and simple. So here’s a thought for you… Instead of trying to change the cup, be thankful you can afford the cup. Trust me, the fact that you’re even standing in line at a Starbucks means your life is pretty damn good. So focus on that instead. Life is way too short to get your panties in a wad over something so petty and insignificant.

So now that we’re clear, won’t you join me for a Starbucks coffee with a side of holiday cheer? I certainly hope so. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your shiny red cup.

Very upset by this. Although it was never confirmed, I assumed Jablonsky would be doing it as he’s scored every Bay film since The Island 10 years ago. But they’ve been working together for 12 years. Jablonsky scored the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.

Now THIS kind of sentiment really annoys me. I understand how (for example) setting about making a film about some kind of war in Europe, starting production after the Paris attacks, would be kinda insensitive, but for goodness’ sake, Hunger Games is a friggin’ movie franchise that has been in the works for years ever since the books became popular, so to say that they shouldn’t be showing it because of Paris is utter stupidity. There is war going on around the globe the entire time. Just because it hit closer to home this time doesn’t mean we have to cancel anything and everything that is about war.

All Dogs Go to Heaven.. a grainy one, indeed.

Probably motivated by the video sucess of the original movie, Don Bluth’s All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989), MGM decided to do a sequel as it was the trend in the late 90s. The difference is, that they did it for a theatrical release instead of the Disney-typical video release. And if it’s done theatrically, it means more budget, and more budget results in good quality. That’s basically what describes the movie.

All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 starts basically where the first one ended; Charlie (Charlie Sheen, curiously funny) is living in the heaven as expected, but isn’t really enjoying life in there. When Gabriel’s Horn is stolen and lost in San Francisco, Charlie, in a attempt to get back to the Earth, offers himself to retrieve it, going with his friend Itchy (Dom DeLouise). This is where our story begins, and there he finds the gorgeous female Sasha La Fleur (voiced by the wonderful pop singer of the 80s, Sheena Easton) and the young 8 year old kid, David, who ran away from home. Charlie will have to find the horn and keep it away from Red, an evil demon cat.

When you hear about a sequel, normally anyone thinks about a terrible direct-to-video cheapquel intended for money profit. And you don’t expect nothing good after knowing MGM did the awful sequel of The Secret of Nihm, another Don Bluth masterpiece. Well, in this case, I recommend fully viewing and giving it a chance. ADGTH2 was beautifully made, has a entertaining script, and not the soft easy-to-predict one you’d expect on a sequel. Filled with funny dialogues and voice talents, the movie manages to keep you on hold for some good 83 minutes where you’ll find catchy good looking songs and scenes that will entertain and keep your children quiet, but parents will also find it good. Basically, resuming, it’s a good sequel that may even surpass or have a heart near the first one instead of humiliating it like others do. I’m not saying this one is better, because it’s different, and K can’t say nothing bad of anything the great Don Bluth makes. But it certainly has a heart and is enjoyable.

I could go on about telling how I feel about this movie – but I already explained myself enough and I’m forgetting I’m reviewing the Blu-ray itself. Well, it was released back in March 2011 along the first one, wich I have, and must say it’s got a pretty good looking restoration. It comes on a eco-friendly plastic case with a decent new cover and a simple disc with serigraphy. The video is something really debatable, anyone will have his opinion. I, myself, I’m pretty satisfied with it, for reasons I’ll explain later.

I can deduce by the video quality for this release, that Fox picked up his original film print kept in their shelf and scanned it from a 35 mm source. That is good at first, since it’s done for this release and 35 mm is a bigger quality than 1080p itself. The thing is.. they didn’t remaster it. The original print pretty much seems to look fine not to need restoration, since the movie was done 18 years ago. But if you take a 18 year old film and show it just how it is, with no restoration, and put it in high definition is it highly probable the grain and film defects will be easily seen with the amplified image. And it is most seen in the heaven scenes where the colors bleed a little, and the most defect you’ll see in the movie is natural grain (hence the title). However at the end I’m pretty satisfied by the master release. Yes, it is excesively grainy in some scenes to the point the colors will bleed a little, but at least they didn’t apply ugly DNR or other artifacts that modify the original colors. Since the film was a 35 mm, the high definition is still there – and looks really GREAT to my eyes. It comes presented on its original aspect ratio, 1:85, encoded on MPEG-4 AVC. Us movie puritans should really be satisfied that the master comes straight true to the original material and not modifieed at any form, because at the end, the video still looks pretty good looking.

The audio is another good thing – the english audio comes in a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix, wilch sounds pretty good with the film’s songs, dialogues and great orchestral music. Another good point is, that according to the credits, the movie was mixed in DTS, so again we are getting a high quality losless audio mix straight from the original print. Aditionally, two lower latinoamerican spanish and french audios are offered in a simple Dolby Stereo.

And the last part to talk about is the special features. Now this blu-ray is rather dull in this part, it includes a simple original theatrical trailer, wich comes in high definition. As a rather curious fact it also comes straight from the film, since it has the same grain artifacts. I know it’s little but since it’s HD, I’m pretty satisfied with it. Besides, I wasn’t looking for the extras but the movie itself.

At the end, this sequel is pretty good looking, I myself love the movie and I’m pretty satisfied with this release. What else can we expect from this movie? It’s enough that we got it on Blu-ray. With a grainy, but faithful to the original source master, I recommend this blu to any fan of the movie that just wants to upgrade to high definition. For the price and what the movie has to offer, it’s pretty worth the money.

And the last part to talk about is the special features. Now this blu-ray is rather dull in this part, it includes a simple original theatrical trailer, wich comes in high definition. As a rather curious fact it also comes straight from the film, since it has the same grain artifacts. I know it’s little but since it’s HD, I’m pretty satisfied with it. Besides, I wasn’t looking for the extras but the movie itself.

At the end, this sequel is pretty good looking, I myself love the movie and I’m pretty satisfied with this release. What else can we expect from this movie? It’s enough that we got it on Blu-ray. With a grainy, but faithful to the original source master, I recommend this blu to any fan of the movie that just wants to upgrade to high definition. For the price and what the movie has to offer, it’s pretty worth the money.

The grain retention and too much grain giving color bleeding is just about all you need to know.
As far as technical subjectivity goes, he nailed it.
I haven’t watched it, but when it comes to grainy sources, that’s pretty much what you want to hear since it wasn’t given a DNR treatment.
Color bleeding is natural if it doesn’t get touched up slightly.

That "he" was me. I wrote that in January 2014. I oughta re-watch the Blu-ray now and see how it stands to my eyes, but still to this day from what I remember, it looks quite better than the first movie, there’s scenes when there’s a lot of definition and color; the grain is not ANNOYING, except in a scene where the color completely goes down and changes in a heaven scene. But come to think of it the whole heaven scenes have a saturated, down color but I believe that’s just how it was done. The picture overall is still nice and, for a catalog title of less importance, wasn’t really treated wrong, and the fact that there’s no DNR, detail is there and the grain is natural, it’s fine.

I think – especially with a big superhero movie – it’s important that the music sounds new and not familiar (yet serves the iconic idea of a hero). People think they’ve seen it all before if their ears tell them it’s the same old orchestral bullshit (my bullshit included), it doesn’t matter how inventive the action is. I just remember seeing the opening "Midnight Express" for the first time, and thinking I’d never seen anything like it. But it was really that it sounded so different…

It’s been like wrestling with bears to come up with a modern version of an iconic theme – with Mark being great at pushing for that. Before we all lose our minds keep in mind that Miller just spent two years shooting, editing and overseeing MM:FR and before that endured a decade and a half of delays, natural and man made that prevented him from making the film. Give the man a chance to decompress and shoot that smaller film he has in mind.

BTW: Directors have changed their mind: Mendes said he’d never do another Bond film after Skyfall and after a break did Spectre. Tarantino said he’d never film Hateful Eight after the script leaked. Look what happened there.

And when it comes to screwing up franchises no one can compete with Fox: it hosed all three FF films and almost sank X-Men with Last Stand and Origins. Someone finally bought a brain and brought Singer back on.

They should have had Matt Vaughn continue to work on the series… Singer doesn’t entirely ‘get’ X-Men. First Class was more fun to watch than DoFP (though to be fair Vaughn helped write that film; I don’t know if he has any involvement with Apocalypse).

The man who brought X-Men to life doesn’t "get it?" You’ll have to explain to me in what ways Singer fails to grasp the X-Men.

First Class captured the feel of the original X-Men comics as well as providing sophisticated story-telling and character development unseen in any of Singer’s films. I feel like I know the character of Banshee from First Class better than I do Storm. I know absolutely nothing about Storm’s character, her attitude, her anything. She’s just there. Same with Jean Grey, or Iceman.

Whereas a throwaway character like Banshee is clearly a nervous but enthusiastic X-Man who wants to use his powers to their fullest potential. I learned this from all five of his lines, and his actions. Storm et al. are plot devices to Singer, not character, and it shows.

But Singer just reels in viewers by alluding to the dark tone his films have. Because kids like edgy shit. Vaughn takes something as goofy as the X-Men, injects witty dialogue and fun storytelling, and makes it all pan out.

I have to say, as a huge fan of the book and the (admittedly rather graphic and disturbing) 1978 animation, I am super excited about this. Sometime this year, too! 😀

I saw the movie last year, though I really do need a rewatch (wasn’t focusing too much on it, as it was a online watch, and was multi-tasking) but by what I saw, it’s quite exagerated. It is by no means for children, and maybe has adult topics hidden, but it is not the worst or most disturbing animated movie – you wanna see disturbed? Try out a similar movie from the same people that did Watership Down, Plague of something, don’t remember the name but it’s about dogs; now THAT one has intense scenes.. do not forget Felidae, wich had crude gore scenes just to justify it was adult.

Yeah, that’s the one I’m talking about, that one’s definitely not for kids – Watership Down is a children movie compared to that one.

You didn’t even mention the ending of Plague Dogs, where they swim out to sea to find the (nonexistant) Isle of Dog while the freaking Army hunts them. I was severely depressed for a full week after watching it.

Want to know the worst part about Plague Dogs? At the end of the movie, they escape from the researchers that are chasing them (they’re being stalked by them, E.T.-style, throughout the whole movie) by desperately swimming out into the ocean, and they are heavily implied (by which I mean "the movie basically comes out and says it") to have drowned in the water. But that didn’t happen in the book. In the book, they’re rescued and returned to one of the dogs’ original owners, leaving them happy.

Yes, that’s right. They changed the ending to be more traumatizing. You probably figured "oh, they just aren’t considering kids, these movies are for adults!", but no. THEY’RE JUST TOTAL DICKS.

Both of the books and movies were made for adults, as he said, and it’s known, it’s just some people are ignorants and think every animated something has to be for kids. I believe the writer wrote the dog book to show how cruel we are to animals.

I am indeed a fan. I read the novel many years ago and then watched the film. The novel gripped me, and the film captured the exact same atmosphere. It’s definitely not a children’s film though. Far too graphic and disturbing. The book was written by a guy who fought in both world wars, and the characters were based on real people he knew from the army.

Second one, and that’s for the recording sessions. About T2 there could still be album masters.

It’s the sequel’s master tapes that are MIA. I assume the music can be salvaged via the stems though, considering the film’s soundtrack has gone through several remixes over the years (even recently, after the tapes were deemed lost in a fire).

our very first Ultra HD Blu-ray reviews — Kingsman: The Secret Service and The Martian — will be up sometime tomorrow followed by a few more 20th Century Fox titles on Thursday. And we’re working on a review of the Samsung USA UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player itself (for next week I think).

Can’t really imagine there being any more detail to The Martian.
It’s very photographic, but all the details were caputred in 1080p as a lot of the landscape and even interiors of most places are very clean surfaces.
Clean as in, nothing complex or fancy. You can easily downscale to 720p and not miss much.
Mountain rangers are largely predictable surfaces that it would be easy to downscale then upscale again to see if you lose any details.

Kingsmen, however, is set in real-life world.
The opening bar scene alone would have far more details in the background with the random objects and furnishings.

The Martian is a wallpaper movie whereas Kingsmen is an action movie with motion.

But I’ll wait until their full review to see if they mention any difference in color as the UHD-BD is supposed to have far more allowance for colors over what BD offers.

And now you’ll see a lot of Deadpool copycats in Hollywood and more R-rated Superhero movies. Just like James Gunn said.

Same thing Gareth Edwards did for opening night on Godzilla.
Edwards promised a sequel if the box office did well (domestically/USA) for opening night and then just shouted it all over facebook.

Back when D23 was going on in August I attended a small panel about the restoration of disney films during which they showed a couple clips of a BEAUTIFUL scan of Song of the South intermingled in the presentation. Of course very quickly everyone gasped at seeing it and got excited, at which point the guy explained that they aren’t restoring it or releasing it, but that the studio wanted an archival scan. This frustrated me to all hell because the couple clips they showed had very minimal damage and would be a very fast, easy cleanup and the colors were gorgeous. The insistence of Disney to not release this film is baffling. It would take maybe a couple of months to get it to a presentable point and would be easy profit for Disney and they STILL have no interest in a release because (to quote the presenter): "We don’t make the decisions of what gets restored and released. Corporate makes those decisions based on what they think people will buy. Sad, and there are many things I would love to restore, but it is a business after all."

They have the ways and mediums to actually release it but they just, for whatever reasons, stupid conservative fair, they just don’t want to.. and I wish this ban would be lifted one day..

There’s also a rumour saying that Disney may have sold Criterion the rights to release the movie in their collection – seems a wish rumour more than any actual thing, but one can keep wishing..

Snyder completed BvS before Deadpool even started filming so this is not a case of Warner climbing onto Deadpool’s coattails. Warner and DC seemed to have decided to go dark with their superhero universe which would be in keeping with the tone set by Nolan’s Batman films and MoS.

The MPAA has given the Blu-ray Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Edition an "R" for "scenes of violence" so make of that what you will. The UE is also an extended cut. Warner hasn’t released its street date yet.

The success of Deadpool has revived the animated version of The Killing Joke and it will go "R." Warner was looking to release it after Watchmen but when that "R" rated superhero film failed at the box office Warner dropped the project.

Someone should send Ryan Reynolds a thank you note.

P.S. Maybe Warner should consider re-releasing the Director’s Cut of Watchmen in theaters. Maybe the audience is ready for "R" rated superheroes?

I also read not public press content about the whole of Predators so I don’t know if the author is being too biased towards the first movie or basing off facts.

As we get out to the fight, I did my own variation, and that’s just a piano. It’s a piano playing the Bach aria from the Goldberg Variations. And the Goldberg Variations are based on variations of the baseline, it’s 20-something of them, not the melody. So I did my own variation, then I time-stretched it over seven hours. And I swear to God start to finish that took me over 20 hours, and it’s a nine and a half minute long piece of music. I mean, the concept of it, I had to build onto it, add bass, add things to it. And the rearranging of the piece and the concept of stretching it, and then that happened really quickly.

At first I wasn’t believing it until a friend sent the interview to me. At first I didn’t care/wasn’t much excited about the news, doesn’t matter if it’s Zootopia related, I haven’t followed the series since Season 2 but the little I know I bet it’s just gonna be a cameo of a cute real bunny that looks like Judy. They tend to do that.. and I’d rather it stay at a funny cameo than an actual whole CGI character. However I think the cameo will be cute and I like that. You know, like the cameo Lady and the Tramp had in the show once.

But That Said We Did Have a Full CG White Rabbit, Catapillar & Chesire Cat in OUATIW.

I don’t know how they’ll do it but I have hopes it’s just a cute bunny someone has named Judy Hopps, honestly, it’s better than a full character. It doesn’t fit any other form. Don’t you agree? Any other way (a CGI character, a character who talks and has importance) wouldn’t really be good.

Because it’s incredibly overrated? Simple as that. There’s nothing else to it. I didn’t hate it like I did Age of Ultron, I just didn’t obsess over it. And it’s Marvel…too much comedy and humor in them at times.

Marvel is for the boys, DC is for the men.

And Marvel is just a mess. DC is only in their second film and there’s already continuity. That was not the case with Hulk or Iron Man 2, whichever you consider the second MCU film. Neither had as much continuity with the first film in the universe as BvS did with MoS.

What continuity, characters from one being in the sequel? Because Marvel has a strong, coherent universe, you just haven’t bothered to check it at all. You’d be surprised how great the Marvel Universe is, more than the shitty copycat DC is trying to do for a cashgrab and that backpedalled epically just because of rush. Marvel took its damn time to get where they are now. Ponyo, continuity is more than just IN-film. Same director and same composer are pretty big. Iron Man, Hulk and Iron Man 2 have three different composers, all of which have 3 different themes. That’s a mess in and of itself.

The Rogue Cut alleviated some of my disappointment, but I was still kind of bothered. I was really looking forward to more action from the old X-Men team; I didn’t give a shit about Wolverine with a whiny Professor X, or effing Mystique.

I also was hoping for Man of Steel to be magnificent… it really, really wasn’t. :laugh:

Winter Soldier completely blew my mind. It was the first time in years I had left the theater fully satisfied. It’s not overrated, it deserves all the praise it gets. It was an incredible departure from what we’d seen before in Marvel.

And for the record, Marvel is getting that sort of "continuity" that DC has. The Russos are returning for Civil War, along with Henry Jackman. The Russos are also working on Avengers 3 and 4.

I agree with DAK. A lot of the criticism leveled at BvS is that it’s "a dark film." What’s wrong with that? Are all superhero movies supposed to be light and fluffy and leave no footprint on the cinematic environment?

DC has had the guts to address the consequences of what happens when men, gods and monsters clash. Buildings fall. People die. There’s no Marvel "evacuate the city" nonsense and suddenly all civilians are out of harm’s way. Even Marvel has recognized it must address the damage its heroes cause. (The whole Sokovia evacuation in Avengers: AoU and its aftermath leads to the civil war in Cap 3.

I think that’s why one reason, perhaps the main reason, so many people dislike BvS: it goes against the fans’ preconceived notions of how their heroes are supposed to behave: in BvS Batman is angry, enraged. Twenty years of fighting crime and what has he changed in Gotham? Superman becomes, with some prodding from Lex, the target of that rage. Superman doubts his actions because for every positive act he takes, its followed by negative one. And Diana, after the events of World War I, has withdrawn from the world.

In terms of quality – acting, script and overall story, they’re horrible films. In terms of entertainment, they’re highly enjoyable. Everybody here knows I love Transformers, but you have to acknowledge when a film really isn’t that good. And that means sometimes shitting on the films we love most. Years ago I would be the naive fanboy who would get angry when someone said a film I liked was bad. But I’ve grown up. I’m not a Marvel boy, I’m a DC man :p

It IS overrated, and does not deserve all that praise. Seriously I feel like it gets more praise than TDK Trilogy, Inception and Interstellar combined. I’m so sick of it. While Richard Donner directed all 4, I didn’t know Shane Black wrote the first one. But I like the fact that Lethal Weapon takes place at Christmas. Like Die Hard. To me, I think they’re trying to show that shit can hit the fan at any given time. Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean a film should be all happy-go-lucky. I’m not defending Shane Black for the disaster that is IM3 – I very much hate the film and hate that it’s set at Christmas, I was just giving my opinion of these types of films taking place at the most joyous time of the year.

Apparently folks have forgotten or never read The Dark Knight Returns. Not a lot of laughs in that one. Or The Killing Joke which set the standard for today’s take on The Joker. Again, not a lot of laughs. Except dark ones.

But by fixing "everything" it introduces new problems: why was Apocalypse not a threat in the original timeline? How does Angel exist as a young man in the ’80s when he was originally a young man in ’06?
For all their attempts to "fix" their awful film series, they sure didn’t put a lot of thought into the ramifications of such a change.

And I don’t like how Mystique suddenly is a good guy since an actress popular with the youth is playing her. DoFP is the best Mystique we saw in my opinion – being a grey hat of sorts – and it looks like they’re throwing that away in favor of Lawrence being well-liked by audiences in the role. Makes me entirely uninterested in Apocalypse. But I’m really interested in what Hugh Jackman is cooking up for Wolv3rine.

It most certainly does deserve all that praise! It’s smartly written, shot, scored, choreographed, and actually feels like a step forwards rather than a step back, as opposed to most of Phase 2.

DC’s problem is that they think, by being darker, they are also being more intelligent. That’s why they fumble up. They spend so much time muting the colors they forget to write the script properly.

What they did to Bucky in TWS is pretty fucked-up, moreso than anything I saw in MoS. It’s darker than anything I saw in that film. The deluxe bluray is awesome. It’s like Kill Bill combined, without having to resort to fan edits. It’s officially combined.
Watching part 1 then part 2 was exciting because of the cut off. That built up way more hype than the soft, sappy, into the sunset that Kill Bill Vol 1 did.
The cut off with the smile was perfect.

For all their attempts to "fix" their awful film series, they sure didn’t put a lot of thought into the ramifications of such a change.

A few continuities. But what can you expect for movies. It would take a movie a lot longer to make if they wanted to fact-check everything.
There was a lot of criticism over the timelines. I swa them too but didn’t really care much. Can’t expect the same actors to keep playing all the time.
I had suspend my disbelief for that fantasy/scifi movie when they used real Hugh Jackman instead of photoshopping him like they did Arnold for Terminator movies (Salvation + Genysis).
I think for DoFP, for using old Jackman for younger Wolverine was to keep that part non-CG. It’s a CG movie, but there’s still a great deal of practical effects where they could be used.

I imagine they’ll insert a scene just for exposition about how Apocalypse interferes with timelines, like Kat/Rogue and Wolverine did.
I don’t remember the exact story from the Fox Cartoons and never read the comics, but Cable is essential.
One of the things fans hated was Cyclops dying as he was an integral part of the Cable/Apocalypse storyline.
But now he’s back, now they can do Apocalypse. But I haven’t really checked if they mentioned Cable will get a cameo or anything. I’ve not seen him in any of the trailers.

And I don’t like how Mystique suddenly is a good guy since an actress popular with the youth is playing her. DoFP is the best Mystique we saw in my opinion – being a grey hat of sorts – and it looks like they’re throwing that away in favor of Lawrence being well-liked by audiences in the role. Makes me entirely uninterested in Apocalypse. But I’m really interested in what Hugh Jackman is cooking up for Wolv3rine.

It’s nothing to do with Lawrence. Mystique has fought against the Brotherhood several times and changed sides as she saw fit.
The Rogue Cut shows just how two-faced and selfish she is. She sleeps with Magneto but wants Beast because she was denied the pleasure of Xavier.
She’s a tramp.
Lawrence has played that role a lot. Most of her movies, even smaller movies lesser known, she’s played a harlot going after as much men as possible.
That’s probably all the hate people have for Mystique by Lawrence.
Mystique by Romjin-Stamos (at the then time it was -Stamos) didn’t portray a floozy. Or at least they didn’t show her using her feminane wiles on every penis she comes across.

I loved her in First Class because it shows the betrayal she feels and how she joined the Brotherhood.
But come DoFP and finding out she’s the biggest reason why everyone must die and proven that she is the problem, what does she do? She still tries to kill Trask. So selfish.

You get so sick of watching her face because you know she just doesn’t want to listen.
She makes everyone look so good because she’s so terrible.

But, now she has to redeem herself in Apocalypse.

It’s probably because Wolverine has been made the focus of all the movies, why they’re making Apocalypse about the most hated mutant.
It is Singer, after all. He likes to use stories for allegories and metaphors for real life.
X-2, when Iceman comes out to his family about being a mutant, they wrote it as if he was coming out as a homosexual. They just replaced ‘gay’ with ‘mutant’.
Which is the vibe I picked up when I watched it in theaters.
Then after I looked back and saw all the references and details. And makes sense why there’s so many pretty, pretty boys in those movies.

I was poking some well intentioned fun at the CW. I like its superhero programs, they are generally well done if occasionally they veer into the soap opera lane. But the CW knows it audience.

As for so many good looking people: that’s a criticism that applies to most of TV, cable and movies.

Just remember: looks fade and luck runs out but brains and knowledge last a lifetime.

Unless you get Alzheimers. Then all bets are off.

I love the steak for DOFP. It was really emotional the first watch, for the theatrical release.
I cried at the end because steaks were on the line. They did a real good job making the threats serious in this.
In comparison, Phoenix was largely underplayed. But going with "she’s just learning" was neat and all. *THAT* is when they should have made it a 2/3 picture story.
They could have easily made Phoenix a trilogy.

I imagine Sansa Stark will get her own movie. Touching largley on the dangers of Pheonix.

I’m waiting for a season pack.

Kind of breaks the idea behind the show.
For the very first episode, it was Emily Deschanel that asked to have accurate information for the case they were working on.
Actual forensic details about what the bones could tell. She didn’t want to have the skull of a 20-something, average female and then have the script say it was a 40-something neanderthal of a male or anything.
She really pushed for accuracy in the show. Which was appealing.

That’s why a lot of us loved the show.

Then this whole thing with Sleepy Hallow.
I haven’t watch SH, so I don’t know if they went all Highlander with time travel or if they went with something Wes Anderson would do to make it look like Alice In Wonderland is all in her head and not real at all.

Even though Deschanel and Boreanas are largely producing the shows, they lost to the studios. 🙁
Their anniversary episodes were weird. :erm: Weirder than them acting like a couple from the Bronx on a couples retreat investigation. :laugh:

3D is a gimmick and I hear that Atmos is essentially just upmixed 7.1

Reminds me of the days of the Sensurround gimmick which was essentially the theaters cranking up the bass.

I’ll have to see it three times, since it seems it won’t be like STAR WARS 7, which I was able to watch in both Atmos and 3D at once (BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is probably taking the 3D+Atmos slots.)

I have to decide which one to see first. Which do you guys recommend? Atmos, 3D or English version?

If you get Atmos, it should be Atmos/3D. No reason to not include it.

Over here, at the Famous Players theaters, Silver City, we got in one viewing: Atmos/AVX + DBox seats (vibrating chairs) + 3D + HFR

For this movie, the 3D should have decent conversion. It’s centuries later after Clash of the Titans so no one needs to bring that up as it isn’t relative any longer.
A valid argument would be that the entire film doesn’t need to be 3D. Just certain parts, the ones shot with 3D cameras.
In the old days, anaglyph was brutal for eye strain and brain strain. Only 5 minutes of the movie was 3D.
Today, 3 hour sagas in 3D is a lot on the brain with no breaks. Dimly lit theaters. Eye strain galore.

I just tried playing Advance Warfare but couldn’t get into it anymore.
The story isn’t as compelling as I remember. Too much scenes in-game that don’t really add anything.
The weapons are all crap. The laser gun doesn’t even wound anyone. The sniper rifle is kind of neat because you have to relaod after everyshot. Reminds me of old Medal of Honor with the bolt action rifles. Everything else is just a mod of an AK-47. So you have inf. ammo on the ground from all your enemies. Takes the fun out of guessing which weapon is best for the current scenario. Auto-bots. All of them. :notgood:

I played a little of Advanced Warfare too, one of the main reasons being that Kevin Spacey was basically in it. :p

I thought it was alright, but I think the last really good Call of Duty game was Black Ops II. Of course with it following the story of World at War and Black Ops (also really good games). and with some of it taking place in the 1980s, and 2025. It just had a good story, it didn’t feel ‘eh’.

Yep. I doubt the film is that good. Aside from Ant-Man, I can’t recall the last MCU film I really liked. GotG was good but it’s so ridiculously overrated it’s not even funny. Same goes for Winter Soldier. AoU sucked so hard, I never liked Thor and IM3 was just as bad. It’s like once Brian Tyler joined the MCU, things went south FAST lol.

I don’t want the film to bad, I really don’t. You’ve no idea how long I’ve been waiting for the next MCU film to blow my mind and make me say "holy shit". However, I’m part of the problem. I’m still working on lowering my expectations so that I can enjoy movies when I go see them. It’s really sad that it’s come to that.

I will post my opinion of Civil War after I’ve seen it.

Since then Marvel has undergone a change in the crew who oversees the MCU so hopefully there’s less froth in their movies. Sometimes you must go dark. Hell, Thanos is coming and turning him into a joke the way Strucker was would be a serious disappointment. Thanos is death made flesh (purple) and he needs to be scary.

Let me say for the record Japan has plenty of actors who would nail the role of the Major.

William Goldman was right when he said: "In Hollywood, no one knows anything."

But the quality of acting in most of their films is not the same as the prodcution value placed over here.

They got good films over there, and they’ve been doing okay with low budgets for decades.
But so many behind-the-scenes shows there’s definitely 2 different styles of filmmaking between the two countries.
And it’s not just a language barrier, either.

Remember when Jackie Chan and Jet Li started making movies for USA ? They were talking about how filmmaking over here is not the same at all and they had to learn everything over again just for the Western style of movie making.

Hollywood doesn’t have time to retrain new actors for lead roles. With the deadlines they set, they need someone who knows American movie making.
And most of the American-Japanese born actors have only had supporting roles really. Nothing too memorable.

How many Devon Aoki’s do we have now? I remember she got pregnant so she couldn’t return for Sin City 2 (she really got saved right there).
There aren’t enough supporting actors getting bigger roles outside of indie projects or getting the ‘cool’ parts with fewest lines.

Japan should make their own movie, just like Toho is with Godzilla: Resurgance.

Their Attack on Tian live-action movies weren’t big hits. Gantz live-action wasn’t so great. Not even the ‘answered’ sequel. I don’t imagine Parasite Eve live-action was THAT great etiher.

What they should really do is make a live-action Robotech already.

I don’t think it’s necessary. It’s not like it’s going to develop anime-awareness or anything.
The existing viewers of North America has reached its maximum potential for anime watchers.
I know a lot of my friends and family will watch it when it’s pirated, but even if they enjoy it, they’re never going to say "Gee, I should watch the anime or read the manga".
One watch was sufficient. The popcorn movie served its purpose.

It’s like Broadway musicals adapted for the silver screen:
On opening night for Sondheim’s "Into the Woods" made more money than the actual Broadway musical did for the entire weekend.
Cinema: 1 night
Broadway: 2-3 days/nights

That pretty much says enough what the average movie watcher wants out of something.
Ticket sales for the Broadway didn’t boom after the movie adaptation. It didn’t inspire anyone. Especially when most movie goers found Rob Marshall’s adaptation to be "too long" for a movie (even though they (the movie goers) had no knowledge of the musical).
The general concesus I hear from people who watched it say it should have wrapped things up a lot quicker. :laugh: My mom fell asleep in theaters and missed the big exit for the Witch. She only woke up after it was over and she made her booming exit. Then she got bored of the epilogue singing.

Another prime example of Hollywood and poor decisions?
Kevin Tancharoen and his Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series.
Instead of giving him a budget for a live-action film, they gave enough to make the web series.
Season 1 was awesome. Season 2 was okay, but definitely story-driven. Huge change in actors, due to scheduling.
Warner Bros doesn’t want another movie. Probably from too much backlask over New Line Cinema box office flops. :laugh:
Tancharoen can re-create Mortal Kombat for the silver screen.
But I think the web series is really good on its own that the movie would more than likely get TOO much studio interferance and turn into another flop.

Babylon A.D. with Vin Deisel never got the film the director wanted. Not even with the Director’s Cut.
It’s only a cut with what he could allow. Too much of it changed that the verison he wanted never got filmed. :/

The rest is background story about Fuqua and Horner. The story is good, but I more or less wanted to hear if Fuqua was going to hire someone to take it and expand on it.

Also reading The Huntsman: Winter’s War will be a red ink bath for Universal. Took in $20 million last weekend while the film cost $115 million to make.

Then there’s the marketing costs. In order to break even it would have to earn $400 million and $200 million is it’s projected worldwide take.

It just isn’t a profitable venture anymore, I don’t think.
Especially for Fox and their struggling X-Men series. Apocalypse leaked but it was overshadowed by Suicide Squad and Deadpool trailers leaks as well.

Hopefully this will just enable them to release trailers and footage for everyone.

Of course "conversations" are a long, long way from a first day of filming, so tamp down your expectations. I agree with Urban that a Dredd sequel would work best as a series on Netflix or Amazon. The movie bombed worldwide so I doubt there’s an appetite to go that route again, but streaming . . ., that could work.

Haven’t seen the Sly version yet, I’m hoping I’ll like it after this garbage remake.

The Muppets was cancelled!? It was by no means a terrible series but it certainly wasn’t The Muppet Show and actually I think that’s what’s needed if The Muppets are to ever actually truly be successful on TV again (sadly, with today’s music, there’s no hopes of any attempt at a similar show to be anyway near as good, which is the problem) but whatever they do it will forever be compared to The Muppet Show likely dooming any series before it even starts. I don’t think it helped that the series was trying to do something new that just didn’t work yet the whole series was based around that one gimmick.

Reading that the final Wolverine film (w/ Jackman that is) might, according to Byran Singer, see the introduction of the female Wolverine X-23. Mangold, who is now directing the third Wolverine film, asked for reference art of X-23 early in the pre-production process.

That would be a good day of getting around the obstacle of casting a new male Wolverine by going with X-23. The superhero universe needs more women.

Apropos female superheroes, DC is working with Margot Robbie to create a Harley Quinn centered film which will also introduce other women heroes/villains of the DCU. And Robbie will produce the film.

That’s the only area of DC that apparently isn’t struggling, but Arrow was never that good to begin with to me. The fact that the writers pander to the Tumblr crowd now has really destroyed what little interest I had in it. Flash was cool as a concept though, and they captured the mythos really well, but the dialogue was really grating. :-\

I’m looking forward to Suicide Squad though! Hopefully those rumors about the reshoots being for adding in hackneyed humor aren’t true.

According to director David Ayers those were just rumors. He tweeted the following "“reshoots for humor” is silly. When a studio loves your movie and asks what else you want, go for it!."

My guess: probably adding some additional action beats and interactions between the team.

I have read about 95% of the New 52 and enjoyed it all. Especially Harley Quinn & All Star Western (Jonah Hex) was a lot of Fun.

The first movie, and judging from the reviews I’ve read about the second, both missed the point and the originality of the Carroll’s novels. Disney ground them into an easily digested pap for mass consumption.

Besides, listening to Depp screech like Nathan Lane in The Birdcage for two hours is more than I care to bear or pay for.

I agree, Black Pearl was a Fun Movie, but lately he’s just phoning it in, don’t know why, the Man’s got enough Money,

It depends if the actor wants, really. See how Daniel Craig has been offered 88 millions and yet he didn’t want to do the character anymore so he rejected. I guess Depp either needed the money or didn’t mind going back to a character, and he liked it. Definitely everyone comes back. Must not be just the money as they are high actors who have enough money to reject if they wanted.

It’s kinda hard when you like something that almost everybody hates! And yes, it’s a new director, James Bobin, which I trusted because he directed nicely the latest two Muppets movies. To me it’s kinda VERY obvious that Burton has not an input in this movie other than "producing".. it seems (to me) less dark and gritty and edgy than the first movie was. To me, this movie now was more like a more normal fantasy movie featuring the characters of the original. Personally I found it entertaining, maybe even better. I just simply liked it. Whereas anyone else could hate it for their reasons and just point all the flaws they want – I just liked it. It looks different to me than the first one; but I’m not even sure if you’d like it. It’s up to you. Download it one day when you’re bored.

I only got 3 graphic novels and ready to trash them. I lost interest in getting the rest absolutely after watching the extended cut to Sin City 1.

This article was in April of this year, you’re thinking of when James wrote the full score as a gift weeks before he died in the plane crash, we had no word until April that they would actually use the score at all.

Fuqua went on to say they never really talked about the score. Horner’s music for the film also wasn’t completed since he was only working off of the script, but now his former team of composers is finishing up his work, which Fuqua describes as having a slightly “modern” feel.

Agreed. Can’t wait to hear it! Although I guess it won’t be 100% Horner as his composer buddies will have to do a fair amount of work to get it finished and edited. But it’s still exciting!

It had better be. Right at the beginning before the opening titles and again at the end of the credits.

Also reading there is one final, major plot twist coming but that won’t be revealed until the very end of the series. The two of the promised three have already been revealed.

.454 Casull is an actual cartridge. Revolvers like the Super Redhawk or Raging Bull fire them. (They are most definitely BFGs.)

The 13 mm would be bigger than a .50 caliber round which the Desert Eagle chambers. But that handgun is probably the limit for the average person. A case larger than a .50, it’s time to go rifle. (Anti-tank rifles use the 13 mm.) Rifles give you better control and accuracy.

The Jackal is a gun that could only exist in anime. In real life the Jackal’s grip and overall construction would probably have to be twice the size depicted to handle the force generated and the expansion of gases.

Still cool as hell and that’s one of the many reasons we watch good anime. Personally, it’s a tie between the Jackal and Wolfwood’s Cross Punisher for coolest anime weapon.

Personally, there are too many guns and not enough brains out in the wild. Guns – as DeNiro said in Ronin – are tools to accomplish the job. Nothing more, nothing less. Some people fetishize them to irrational extremes.

This really pisses me off. No, not the delay. Of course this is a game I’ve been looking forward to for a great while, but if they need time to make it as perfect as they can, get over it. I did.

The death threats… why? It’s only another two months. Again, get over it, get a life. It’s just a fucking game. And people feel they need to make death threats, when the end result would be no release date at all. Is that what you want?

Dragon Age Origins is Boss ! You can do some light modding (nowhere near Skyrim Levels) for Quality of Life and Atmosphere Improvements,

My German university professor did the same, wound up in the Philippines. Civilian service is a good alternative since not everyone is compatible with the military way of life. No shame there and as you said it reminds one of how good many of us have it. When I hear the bitching and moaning about how bad America is, my first question is "Have you lived elsewhere?" Tragically, only 15% of Americans have ever left the country.

My first impulse is to take those whiners for a week to Afghanistan, Iraq, the southern Philippines, Central America and let them experience how most of the rest of the world lives: no education for women, no sanitation or clean running water, no paved streets and little hope of ever getting out. Where they are born is where they will spend their lives, probably never traveling further than ten miles from home.

Perspective is a good thing.

Of course, America is still a work in progress and we have a long way to still go.

I find those americans who be like "America is the best country ever, I’m so proud of it, we’re gonna get better" so desilusional. It’s not gonna get any better. You see how the sense of fan entitlement turns to anger. Fans and critics were lying in hate for Batman v Superman because Man of Steel didn’t conform to how they thought the film should play out. Never mind they hadn’t scene a frame of the film outside of the trailers. Never mind that Bryan Singer’s classic take on Superman underperformed at the box office. And never mind that not all superhero films have to follow the Marvel formula. It’s the people behind the cameras who make the creative decisions, not the fans.

American society as a whole is not terrible, but certain aspects are. And they’ve always existed. There have always been the "know nothings." In the 19th century there was even a "Know Nothing" Party whose members were nativists, fearing America was being overrun by German and Irish immigrants, who were taking jobs and were following orders from the Pope. Back then Catholicism was the Islamophobia of the day.

History does like to repeat itself.

And thanks to social media and the Internet you can build your own bubble, move inside and rarely encounter any information that contradicts your worldview. The problem with that stance is reality is waiting with a large needle ready to pop that bubble.

Clearly, not everybody understands this. When you’re the ones in their place, then you can create what you want, how you want it.

Back in the 1940s, we (The United States) were a respectable country and superpower, for the most part. Now we are a laughing stock. So, no. I am not completely proud of my country at all. Why should I be? Damn straight we have it good, when it comes to the mentioned aspects of cities, clean and running water, sanitation and such, and every country has it’s beautiful and unique landscapes and terrain. There were no civil rights, women’s rights, and the large portions of country viewed Catholics with the same fear and distrust as some view Muslims today. Chunks of the country had no electricity or running water or decent roads. In the South you could still buy post cards featuring the lynching of African Americans and the U.S.’s education system operated under the motto of "Separate but Equal." In hospitals surgery was the most common way to cure chronic infections. There were no antibiotics until 1942.

And I’d like to know where you get your opinion that the U.S. is a laughing stock. What’s your guidepost? Have you lived overseas for years at time? Seen other countries from the inside? Familiar with another culture other than America’s or speak a language other than English? To speak another language is to get some understanding of the people and culture associated with that language.

Reading Shout! Factory is remastering John Carpenter’s The Thing for a fall release. Definitely great news. The U.S. Blu-ray is good but zero special features. I bought the U.K. version which is a solid release plus it has all the ports from the Universal DVD.
