Is there a way to subscribe to threads without getting email notifications about them?

I know that sounds like an awfully stupid question, but let me illustrate what I mean: There are a number of threads that I follow whenever I log in to the forum by clicking on the "Subscribed Threads" link under "Quick Links." But I don’t want to get email notifications every time someone posts in those threads. But I don’t want to unsubscribe from them entirely (i.e. have nothing under my "Subscribed Threads"). Basically I only want to be able to follow the threads under "Subscribed Threads" but not get emails about them. Is there a way to do that?

I thought that going into my General Settings and selecting "Through my control panel only" under "Default Thread Subscription Mode" would take care of the problem real quick, but alas, my poor inbox is still getting bombarded many times a day.

Any help?
