After over 100 hours spent tweaking and redoing this project countless times and correcting every little thing I did over and over, I have finally completed this project.
May I present to you, the Metroid Prime Trilogy Original Soundtrack Compilation in FLAC.

Details
Many of you know that this project was first taken up (more than?) a year ago by Assett1. He dropped the project and asked I, his audio mentor, to take it up for him.
I took it up around October and completed it just a few hours ago.
This project consists of the 2 GameCube Metroid game rips from the actual game .iso and the Wii .iso of Corruption. I took the three game rips and dove deep in cleaning them up and restoring them to a nice, smooth, high quality, clean mix. Everything from the actual game disk is intact including the file names except for the vox files. I removed them from the compilation as I felt they were not something anybody would want.
The Remastering Process
Here are the details for the process that I went through.
For each track, the restoration was done digitally and the mastering was completely analog.
1. I took each track, normalized it to -0.1 db.
2. Ran that through a high quality de-clipper.
3. From there I ran that through a manual click and pop remover.
4. That to a re-sampler and high frequency synthesizer so that the high frequencies were restored to their original state
5. I then took that and ran it through a de-constructor and removed some of the digital distortion and details that should have never been there to begin with.
6. This then was ran through a volume leveling program.
7. Each track was double-checked for quality accuracy and made sure it was clean enough for mastering.
8. The output of this was then run through a complex analog mastering setup. I first decided on having a -72db dynamic range for every track. I got the hardware to a noise level of almost non-existent. (I had to borrow some hardware from a friend)
10. I set up an analog reverb at around -40db for dynamic range and detail beyond the 16-bit original file.
11. Then through an exciter to refresh the the entire spectrum and remove the dull sound quality of the original files.
12. This into a nice 2-band compressor for bringing out the smooth bass harmonics and mid harmonics the exciter created.
13. This goes into a nice pre-amp to add some life back into the audio.
14. This into a 4-band compressor to add some richness.
15. This into one of my favorite equalizers.
16. Then I mixed this down to a reel-to-reel tape. (This put me back quite a lot as that tape gets expensive very quickly!)
17. From here I go to an excellent stereo widener.
18. This into a soft limiter
19. Whatever went over 0db was caught by the excellent limiter I had directly after that.
20. I then had one of my favorite limiters setup after to catch any overs that the other limiter might have missed.
21. The output of all this was recorded into my PC via my EPIC (emphasis on epic) capture card into Adobe Audition at 96khz/24-bit.
22. The output was down-sampled to 44.1khz sample-rate (almost pointless as that my reel-to-reel is a classic and starts sloping down at 17-ish khz)
23. The file was also dithered to 16-bit with one of my favorite digital dithering setups that gave exactly -72db of dynamic range but you can hear as far as -144db with it.
24. This was then exported to a .wav file, encoded to MP3, tagged, and when the entire thing was finished, packaged, and uploaded. You have the output of that huge process.
The Philosophy
From the start I knew this was going to be a huge challenge.
There were many things in these tracks that really plagued the original files. Most of the synthesizers in this project’s recordings were analog and recorded to tape way too hot or cheap digital equipment that distorted way to easily. Most of Corruption was clipped. Either way, the tracks were horrible quality to begin with. When I first heard it, it sounded like a bunch of distortion, clipping, noise, and bad quality synths. I feel like the restoration process was more difficult than the mastering process at times.
The dynamics of the tracks are not squished like I originally intended them to be. At the start of this project I had decided on a controlled dynamic range, with gates and everything, but I realized that this project really called for a completely different take than my usual mastering works. I figured that the analog hardware preserved through the recordings needed to be complimented by an analog mastering process.
After much examination I figured out that the mastering was non-existent and that the mix was taken directly to digital files and into the game. There was no mastering involved in any of the three games! This opened the entire project up for me. I could really do what I wanted with this after all.
I tried to let the mixes retain their original feel while enhancing the track from every angle. There is not one part of each track that was not enhanced. Everything from the dynamic range, to the high frequency extension and imaging has been enhanced, controlled, and/or cleaned up.
These mixes needed to be dynamic, yet the loud parts needed to scrape against the limiter. It needs to be transparent. The imaging needed to be realistic, yet soak you in the instruments. The depth needed to steal your soul. The dynamics needed to go as low as you could possibly hear. The audio needed a space to breathe in. The color needed to breathe and be very warm and open. The instruments need to sound like they were meant to be. The distortion needs to match and blend with the digital distortion provided in the mix. The audio needed to be musical in every aspect. The compressors, the harmonic excitements, distortion, everything needed to enhance the musical experience.
But it needed to be controlled as well. How much is too much? That was just as hard as everything else. It can’t be so transparent that it sounds fake. The mix needs to be dynamic, but not too dynamic that is blows you away. The loud parts needs to scrape against the limiter, but not every time it gets forte. The dynamics need to be as low as you could possibly hear, but still audible as anything farther is pointless. It needs a space to breathe in but the space can’t devour it. The coloring needs to be warm and open but not too much of either. The distortion shouldn’t be noticeable unless the instrument is using distortion as an effect. The instruments should sound like they were meant to be but not artificial. Everything needs to be musical but somehow accomplish all of the above.
After over 75 hours of tweaking just the mastering process, I finally achieved a high quality, controlled but perfect mastering setup. Each track would use the same setup for variety of sonic quality.
I feel like with this entire project, I achieved a perfect balance between what I want it to sound like, what the music called for, what people expected it to sound like, all while having variety for every track.
I feel that what you will download is the highest possible quality rendering of the game’s music exactly how it should be. (I left the drop-outs and glitches for that authentic feel) Exactly. If you hear this mix over a nice flat system, you’ll hear exactly what I want you to hear. The warmth, the details etc. It’s times like this when audiophiles really appreciate an accurate system or headphones.
Before You Download
Before you download, I would like you to think about donating. It isn’t required so don’t feel like you must. I just ask for people to donate as the tape used for this project was not cheap and the electricity etc. required to run my mastering studio does cost quite a lot. Even if you can give a dollar, it’s better than nothing. This project did take more effort than I think anybody really expected, but I think it came out better than anybody expected so I hope that’s enough to convince you.
Download Links
Here are the download links to the compilation project in MP3. The originals were in FLAC, but I decided that the package was way too big and there isn’t much quality difference between the MP3 and the FLAC to justify a FLAC download IMO. But I may upload it just in case.
It includes the album art as well as all the tags in a high quality format!

I hope you all enjoy the music. I hope it brings tears to your eyes and I hope that above all you enjoy it and that it takes you somewhere you can’t quite put a finger on.
After-all, that’s what the best music does.
Thanks guys.

Downloading right now!
That really means a lot π I’m thankful that there are people like you out there π Thanks DragonIIXD
Did π
It is in fact Majora’s Mask. π A TON of work is going to be put into that soundtrack though. It all depends on how much free time I have to put to it. It shouldn’t take more than a month to get it finished and put up. Majora’s Mask should be out by Feb.
Awesome!
YES!!!! Also added you.

Majora’s Mask is a masterpiece, both in gameplay and soundtrack.
I’ve beaten Ocarina of Time back when I had my N64. I’ve played a little bit of Majora’s Mask, but never really fell in love with the structure of the game. Other people say that you just have to get used to it, I never really did, even after a few hours of gameplay.
I always felt like Ocarina was lacking the seriousness and darkness that Majora’s mask crafted, and very well at that.
Yes. It was pretty hard for me at first mainly because of the time structure but after I finally figured out how to slow down the time, it was much easier. You should really try to beat it so you can get a better feel of the atmosphere of the music you are going to remaster. π
I wanted to keep it as close to a game rip as possible and not a music album. I left all the names of the tracks from the game disk intact. For purists sake. The mp3 will be tagged with the proper names and such just like the Metroid Recon one, but MUCH higher quality.
Aw, are you kidding me? Well, can you update your links and just add a link to a text file with the track names? Cuz I really want the flac files but I don’t have the time to manually search for every song name.
I’ll put it up when I put up the mp3 links. Although the game disk tags are quite stupid, they do say what is what for the most part.
Also.
Being the low/mid-fi audio enthusiast that I am (being a self-supported, loan-avoiding, full-time college student limits your budget a bit) I’m not qualified to give a final verdict of any sort. But holy cow. This sounds absolutely fantastic.
Assett1’s release was amazing, but this frankly blows it out of the water completely. (don’t tell that to him though. I’m still eternally grateful for his initial (re)master.)
I’m gonna have to burn some disks and play them through my playstation-1/dayton-b652 setup to see how that sounds,
but for the moment I’m perfectly content with drooling.
This is incredible, fantastic, praiseworthy work.
I wish I could donate more to you.
Man, I’m done waiting. I’m not waiting for a couple more weeks. I’ll just name the tracks myself…
I sound ungrateful but I am. You took this time to give us the trilogy OST that will probably sound the best it ever will.

First World Problem.
But….
"The file you attempted to download is an archive that is part of a set of archives. MediaFire does not support unlimited downloads of split archives and the limit for this file has been reached. MediaFire understands the need for users to transfer very large or split archives, up to 10GB per file, and we offer this service starting at $1.50 per month."
EDIT: Darn, ninja’d by 12 whole minutes?

Can someone kindly re-upload to a site that doesn’t do that? π
———- Post added at 03:11 PM ———- Previous post was at 03:11 PM ———-
Good thing my downloads are complete.
You should assist in uploading to Packupload then so others can get the files too and the weight of the uploading the OST is not solely on Assett2.
This means that donations will have to be a part of this project and to keep it going donations will be needed. Sorry guys….
———- Post added at 03:31 PM ———- Previous post was at 03:25 PM ———-
I only have $17.00 on my donation account. If you want to keep using Mediafire, And have access to a single archive file of this project as well as the split archives, I need to raise atleast $28.00. Donations are needed or the files need to be uploaded someplace else…
Do you think packupload is worth it? Should I go ahead and get premium on it and re-up everything?
EDIT: It seems that packupload is free. I’m re-upping to that site. Should be completed by tomorrow. If I get enough donations I can have mediafire and packupload going at the same time, though I’d rather not pay for mediafire π
EDIT 2: Uploading the split archives to packupload is going to take around 12.5 hours with my shitty upload speed so if ANYBODY has faster internet than 66kbps upload, could you PLEASE upload all 16 parts to packupload with a registered account and PLEASE share the links so I can get this project back online? Thanks in advance.
If you want to tag the tracks, you can download all three of the game rips off metroid recon, compare the rip you got from me, and tag the tracks. Otherwise, I’ll have the list up in 12 hours. If you want it before then, you can do it yourself. Sorry >.<
As for uploading, I’m including the new art for the project as well as the games as separate downloads. Be 5 tomorrow morning the project should be back up and running… As long as nothing happens….

Fully downloaded. Post back when I have a listen!
So, with PRO, you can upload files of up to 2 GB each, right? Or something…
But do you also need to be PRO to download 2 GB files?
———- Post added at 05:25 PM ———- Previous post was at 05:22 PM ———-
I’m listening to Torvus Bog right now and it sounds phenomenal!
But do you also need to be PRO to download 2 GB files?
As I understand it, Assett2 becoming a pro-member would make the 16-part 200mb archives available for download again. I don’t know what the case would be if he re-upped in 2gb chunks, but I doubt non-pro members would be able to download it.
I’m actually re-uploading it to packupload in 700mb archives. 2 archives per game. The games are separate and include new artwork.
———- Post added at 05:40 PM ———- Previous post was at 05:38 PM ———-
Yeah, but what if I have to do that with all 16 links? π
So, with PRO, you can upload files of up to 2 GB each, right? Or something…

I believe you do have to be a pro member to download the 2gb links, sadly. But like I said, in 12 hours I’ll have updated links that are only 2 archives per game and the games are separated.
It’s just a shot in the dark, but I suspect he’ll upload the mp3 version to packupload. Not mediafire.
And here I can’t access part 1, 4, 6 and 9 π
I was just curious because I’ve never even heard of packupload until now. So is packupload a pro only site then?
Just keep clicking and you’ll break through!
not quite. Packupload is entirely unrelated to mediafire. No pro-membership required. It’ll eventually go the same way that all the other filesharing sites go. but for our purposes atm, it’s perfect.
Just keep clicking and you’ll break through!
it’s not that easy. once the curtain drops, you can’t shove it aside. It’s like an elevator. You can’t make it go faster (or in this case, un-block the file) simply be pressing the button a bunch.
Still stuck with above files, but I can still re-download the other ones multiple times, without one single msg :S. Weird
Not only is the numbering system not correct ie; it skips numbers, but I didn’t process the vox files. Everything else from the disk is there.

Exactly. Perfect trick, just reset your i.p. worked for me when I tried it a while back with a couple of other download sites and such.

Try doing what Faeel said.
Just an update, I’m gonna be busy for the rest of the night. I’m gonna leave my pc on overnight uploading. I’ll post the links around 10:30 tomorrow morning. If anybody has a faster internet connection, it would be great if you could upload what you’ve downloaded for others to use if they can’t access the mediafire links.
Cool. Sounds pretty convenient then. Thanks.
Out of curiosity, do you have any estimate of how big the mp3 version will be?
He said it will be about 800MB I believe.

About your first rip, I’ve got it all tagged but it’s missing the Chozo Ghost song. I’ll just keep that from the Asset1 rip, so no big loss. Everything else is there though.
By the way, I like your Process description xD
nice 2-band compressor
one of my favorite equalizers
an excellent stereo widener
I don’t know, something about the choice of words seem weird xD
and I hope the Equalizer didn’t change the Song too much, because if you equalize to heavy, the song gets altered to much, becoming almost more of a remixing than a remastering π Key word is almost here, you aren’t really changin the melody or the rythm or anything, you would just change on which frequencies are locust the most.
I love you! Thanks for the work.

I didn’t go into the process description much because I don’t want to reveal my mastering process but rather just explain what the sound went through for people who are curious.
And I’m pretty sure I know how to use an equalizer after 15 years of mastering experience and a bachelors degree in recording arts, haha π
Just sayin’, cannot wait for it!
You say about 800 MB, and about 6 hours, which is about 38 kB/s or 303 kbps <___<
I know mine’s 1 Mbps (~125 kB/s) for upload so if I had to upload 800 MB it’d only take about 1.8 hours….
I say ‘only’ relative to 6 hours, unless I’m getting the wrong idea π

Okay, well if I can get a track list name and such, I’ll get those mp3s up before tomorrow then. π

What are the names on the track? The tracks aren’t numbered and the only missing ones I found were Chozo Ghosts from MP1 and the main title theme from MP2.
Oh, I see, the track names from THE GAMES 1 and 2. Give me a bit and I will post them here.

Some of the tracks I didn’t recognize so I gave them a name based on the filename. It would take too long to name them side by side with their original tracks as I’ve already renamed them. If you sort your tracks from shortest to longest, here’s the tracks. If you find the missing tracks, these will be more comple and of higher quality than Recon’s, so you ought to send them in!

There you have it!
Excellent! And this is the order that the music is on the folder that I uploaded, correct? And which tracks did you leave out? Hopefully I can get the mp3 version up before tomorrow.
EDIT: Nevermind. Did you leave out any tracks? If so, which ones?
Chozo ghosts was in it. I found it and I’m including it in the mp3 release. You prolly just missed it π
I’m comparing and tagging. I’m only on track 15 of Prime 1. Havn’t gotten to echoes. I’m pretty sure the title theme is there though. Again, you probably missed it. π
Would be interested in hearing the "arranged" tracks you have if you’re willing to share those. If not, no bigee, but definitely sounds intriguing.
Sure. There’s 3 arranged versions.

Also wondering the same as the guy above me
I’m debating on re-uploading the FLAC and just using the MP3 version as the project release. It’s easier to manage 3 files around 300mb each vs. 6 at 700mb.
And from a compatibility point of view, MP3 is almost universal where FLAC isn’t mainstream enough for me to feel comfortable with just a FLAC release. Plus who REALLY wants to download a 3gb split file? π

YES!! Can’t wait!
It’s entirely up to you if you want to re-up the FLAC version. But like you said, mp3 is more universal. Again, it’s up to you.
I’ll stick to mp3 and if I start getting more requests for FLAC than people downloading the mp3 version, then I’ll upload FLAC as well.
Sounds like a plan.
I don’t think it is. I might have tagged Agon Wastes as one of the tracks I didn’t recognize and improvised upon
.
*raises hand*
I do!
Actually, I have one corrupt archive. 09 to be exact. I can extract all the tracks up to that point, but from 09-onwards, I can’t listen to anything (Skytown! Steamlord! Sky temple! NOOOOOO!). If you (or anyone else) could somehow get that single archive-file to me, I’d greatly appreciate it. Like alot.
.
It isn’t in there, along with the title theme :/

That’s good enough for me π
For the time being at least :3
I hope you can find the time to upload the FLAC version later, but if not, I’m sure I can get it from one of the other members around here.
Once again, thank you so much for this project. What I’ve heard is mindblowing (as I stated earlier) and I eagerly look forward to hearing the mp3 release when it comes out!
(also, if anyone around here still has the archived rar’s and wants to drop 09 to me somehow (dropbox, mediafire, whatever), I’ll love you forever)

Yeah, see those? I used those for disk 1 (MP1)
Yeah. I believe that Mr.Assett2 has, and I quote, Stolen my ear Virginity from across the world with this soundtrack.
Good show sir.
Good show.
Glad your ears have been raped by my work π
It does, but according to DragonIIDX it’s very slow :/
But I can just let them all run through the night, so I’m fine.
Well the first time I tried it said 18.7 KB/second so I cancelled, then registered and tried again and the download speed is the same. At 7% now with 17.8 KB/second.
I see them.
But surprisingly, I don’t recognize them… at all.
What… What are those?
I thought they could be MDR-SA3000’s but they obviously aren’t.
My curiosity is killing me now O_o
They are…The Gioteck EX-05 military style headset.
You would really help me and others out of you did this.
Ah. That would explain it.
I know just about every headphone in the book
But I don’t know squat when it comes to headsets.
Thanks for answering though. I was thoroughly baffled.
It might. Not many other people are having the issue you’re having :/
Corruption is being uploaded as soon as echoes is finished. (25 mins)
Try and delete Microsoft .net RUNTIME 4.0 if you have it. If you don’t, disable WMI Provider host. Both of them.
When I got Terraria, it required Runtime, and since then, my net was shit. About the same as yours actually, only I was lucky to hit 10-15 kb. Deleted it a few hours ago and My internet is shining like it was never affected. WMI provider host, particularly the one hosted by NETWORK saps your net.

I browsed through all the Microsoft.NET folders and the runtime files I have are: System.Runtime.DurableInstancing.dll, System.Runtime.Remoting.dll, System.Runtime.Serialization.dll, and System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Soap.dll. I don’t think I have 4.0. All of a sudden when I was browsing through the folder my download speed jumped up to around 70.0 KB/second and rising.

You asked for it. π Like I said before, this is the greatest thing that has ever been uploaded to this site!!!! Every track has spectacular quality that went beyond my wildest expectations. Every track envelops me as if I was actually in the Chozo Ruins, Temple Grounds, Skytown etc. This is the real deal platinum quality that these games music properly deserved. You need to contact Nintendo and Retro Studios with this because they need a kick in the rear for not releasing these soundtracks properly and you could teach them a lesson or 2 on how to do mastering! I plan on making a paypal account so expect a donation from me later. Not going to say how much because I want to surprise you. π
Oh, thank you!
Oh it sounds amazing! Looking forward to your future releases! π
ALAC and APE aren’t mainstream enough, whereas FLAC is open-source and natively-supported by every player. 5 years ago I could’ve understood the compatibility argument since I used to have an iPod as well. However, these days even smartphones support FLAC through workarounds, so there really is no ultimate argument for MP3 aside from the filesize.
But I digress, the MP3 version of this thing is just as good. It all depends on the source, and the source is of perfect quality so there really is no issue here at all. Still, for future generations a FLAC release would be nice (it is an archiving format after all), so if you can find the time to upload the FLAC version someday, that would be great. But the MP3 version is fine for me at the moment, and personally I would hate to upload several GB worth of music AGAIN myself XD.
I don’t care if it takes the whole year, I’ll wait for the FLAC version to arrive someday. Until that happens, enjoy your badge for releasing one of the best albums in ffshrine history!

It was ridiculously slow for me last night but got better later after I was browsing through system files. It might have been because everyone was downloading at the same time.

First: Both the "main themes" of Metroid primes 2 and 3 are three minutes long, yet the Main theme/intro of metroid prime 1 are just over a minute long, is there a reason for this?
Second: The title screen from MP2 Echoes was one of the highlights of the game. Do you plan to snag a good version of the song and release it remastered and such?
The one from Echoes. I forget what the Corruption one sounds like. Gimmie a sec’
From both actually. I didn’t like the grundge and grinding in the original. The remastered version cleans them up well.

Yes. I think the Corruption version was a big improvement over the Echoes version but it’s still not quite as good as some of the other boss themes. They both sound great now though.
Yes.
The Mission Final music is in all the Prime games including Hunters and Pinball I believe. It’s not included in this for Corruption though.
I think the save station music for MP1 & MP2 are the same, MP2’s elevator music is the same as MP3’s save station music, MP1’s Metroid Breakout/Chozo Ghost track reappears in MP3, MP2’s "Dark Samus Approaching" & MP3’s "Dark Samus in the Heart of Phaaze" are the same, MP1’s "Phazon Mines Ambience" & MP3’s "Corrupted Phazon Pool" are the same, and MP1’s "Impact Crater Main Theme" & MP2’s "Phazon Region" are the same.

Oh yeah. Now that you mention it, I guess there was quite a few they re-used.
Why fix what wasn’t broken? I mean in terms of Music itself, not the remastery. THAT DONE HAD TO BE DONE.
I did notice MP1’s Title Theme wasn’t looped though and cuts abruptly. π Ditto on the Menu Theme.

I can upload them right now. Got it from Metroid Database. I think the quality is good. No static or anything. I’ll also send him Agon Wastes since that one is also missing.
Well, I was under the assumption that someone had provided NSF (or whatever) files for all songs. I think Ultimate Koopa did. I’m just surprised that the NSF’s he gave Assett were incomplete. No need to upload those tracks as I already have them from this other soundtrack collection I owned previously. But thanks though. π
Don’t start up that flame war again. lol.
Metroid DB isn’t exactly…good…at all…like…seriously.
Might want to hunt down some high quality rips or find the regular soundtrack of the game and give him that. Maybe find the flac for him as well.

Was the source you got these from lossless and have they been edited or cleaned by anybody?
Were the NSF files provided to you correct for Metroid Prime’s Main Title and Menu themes (Tracks 01 and 02)? They lacked a looping and didn’t have a fade out like the other tracks.
I got them from here. Thread 119086 It says they’re directly from the games files. I converted the mp3s myself but the FLACs are from the source.

Second, the Dark Trooper Battle Theme actually seems to be slightly different in the original Prime 2 disc. I’m wondering if it’s possible to get this version as well? You seem to have the Trilogy disc version. This one’s actually not too important to me though, the difference is really negligible.
Finally, Bryyo is pretty majorly extended in the Trilogy disc. Just wondering if you could get this version too? Also Korakk Beast has an added layer of instrumentals in the Trilogy disc, so you can add that as well. I can’t really provide these tracks since they’re…low quality. Nowhere near FLAC. I just want to make sure this as complete as possible, since these tracks sound so great with your remastering. Also…Prime 3 seems like it might be a little on the short side too…is it maybe because a lot of its tracks are sequenced or something? My rip has about 67 tracks.
This is stereo, not 5.1. Stereo is two channel and if played through a 5.1, should not be in surround sound.
———- Post added at 05:22 AM ———- Previous post was at 05:21 AM ———-
Awesome, awesome job here! I would like to say though, aside from the missing MP2 tracks already mentioned, there’s a couple other ones that I should mention. First, for Metroid Prime 1, if you go to the Trilogy disc’s sound test and choose Prime 1’s Meta Ridley theme, it actually plays an alternate version of Meta Ridley, and you don’t seem to have that one here.
Second, the Dark Trooper Battle Theme actually seems to be slightly different in the original Prime 2 disc. I’m wondering if it’s possible to get this version as well? You seem to have the Trilogy disc version. This one’s actually not too important to me though, the difference is really negligible.

Prime 1 and 2 are from the gamecube disk rips, not the trilogy. The name of the project is called the trilogy because it features remastered soundtrack from the original 3 games. I don’t want to feature music from the trilogy version as this is not supposed to be a rip from it.

If you wanted a massive echo, you could’ve just downloaded assett1’s remaster! I highly discourage adding any effects onto these tracks, they were built perfectly for stereo.
Like arceus said, Concert Hall is too echoey. I have the same options as you do, and I have "Environment" and "Speaker Fill" enabled and it sounds great. Try those.

Anyway, having a listen and I’m not much of an audiophile but the improvement from whatever rip I already had to this is amazing. So much depth to it π
Anyone with a decent post count can PM me for an upload to your preferred host if want :> This must be available to all! This is the MP1 mp3 ver. btw 318MB

Were the NSF files provided to you correct for Metroid Prime’s Main Title and Menu themes (Tracks 01 and 02)? They lacked a looping and didn’t have a fade out like the other tracks.
Erm…. do you even know what NSF is? I hardly think a GameCube game with streamed music will feature sequenced audio data from a NES ROM.
Since people have supplied them, and I know that the FLAC files are floating around somewhere, I see no need to change anything on the thread π
Also, I’m starting on Majora’s Mask and I need somebody to supply the FLAC conversions of the audio files from the ROM. My Foobar2000 won’t install 64th Note, so I’m kinda stuck. I’ll start on the project as soon as somebody can upload the files for me…

so…. is there a link for the FLAC version still online? I really liked the mp3 version, but I still prefer FLACs
The FLAC is, but you gotta find somebody to upload them for you if you want them right now. I’ll start the upload for the FLAC files this weekend.
Just letting you know that, it would be a shame doing all this hard work by using sources that are not correct. And i really want Majora’s remasters to be a success. Then again maybe its an easy thing to fix, just rise the tempo for about 10% i guess?
Also, 64th note works with Winamp but i’m not sure about how to convert it to FLAC…

Taken into account. I had 64th Note working in Winamp, but I couldn’t figure out how to export as a batch. Oh well… Somebody will get them to me π

I could probably look for those Majora’s Mask files when I get done with work at 12 a.m. Unless The Ultimate Koopa or someone would happen to find them before me… π
It would be great if you could get them to me. I would def. put your name on the release thread as somebody who helped make the project a success.

Does it matter whether it be FLAC or APE?
Not sure. If Adobe Audition supports it, then it doesn’t matter.

Thanks for the help man. Just one question, how many times do these versions loop?

Only a few songs from the official OST suffered from non-looping. If you get the German release soundtracks, you will have every track properly looped.
I’m still a total noob, the best I can do is edit by cutting or looping stuff…basic stuff like that, on Garageband. Can you spare some advice? Even if I don’t understand it, I’ll appreciate it for the future.
As far as I know, there’s the European OST and the Japanese OST (maybe also a separate US one).
One has longer tracks, and loops twice, I think the European one. It’s like with OOT. In the Japanese or US soundtracks, Water Temple I think barely goes for 1 minute 40 seconds, but the song itself goes for a good 50 seconds longer, and if you have 2 loops of Water Temple, it should go for over 5 minutes. There’s another one, that only runs for about 40 seconds on one OST, but IIRC goes for at least 2 minutes in game.
So, seeing as I have multiple versions of the Majora’s Mask OSTs, I could just dish out those which have at least a full version of the songs, if not two loops, and upload them?

I think you should upload the European one cause that’s the one that loops twice. I would upload it but the one I have is 128kps. Is yours 320kps?

The entire soundtrack has an average bitrate of 781 kbps, because it’s FLAC.
Even better. I think you should upload it then.
No, there are versions of them around that are looped, tagged, and just below Mr.Assett2’s quality.
Thanks once again for the effort put into this!
Sorry guys!
Been busy.
For Majora’s Mask, the files were very good. The quality of the source is very good.
So far, I’ve cleaned up all the tracks. Now actual remastering of the tracks is next.
I’d say they should be completed before the end of Feb. As always, depending on how much time I have.
Never mind, I’m ripping it myself in FLAC and distributing it on the site. Thanks though!
You. sir, have earned my Win of the day!
If you actually LISTENED to the music, not just "heard" it, you would have known he is a professional at this and it is all being done professionally. It has all BEEN done professionally. He KNOWS what he is doing. He has shown us the proof of the work. You ASKING him to re-do a SEVERAL MONTH project to suit your own personal tastes is just an insult and shows how much of a selfish prick you are. "Learning how to do this stuff?" Are you fucking serious? Have you even compared the soundtracks? Paired the melodies of Underwater Frigate Orpheon? Felt the boom of the beat of Phendrana Drifts? Experienced the heart thumping Emperor Ing Theme? I HIGHLY DOUBT YOUR HAVE.
Fucking idiot.
I can’t believe you would make such a stupid comment like this after all the hard work he put into this. This was originally assett1’s project and he was nice enough to be willing to take over it, so he didn’t even have do this. Even after the AMAZING quality he put into it, you would ask him to do it again??? He stated before that he has a degree in mixing so he obviously knows what he is doing. Like Darkshadowmark said, if you actually compare the OSTs to Mr.Assett2’s quality there is a massive difference with being Mr.Assett2’s version being MUCH better and like he stated, "meant what it’s supposed to sound like." Unbelievable…
Jesus fucking christ. You absolute gaytard. Everyone is right, asking him to redo an amazing remaster is beyond idiocy. You ASS.
If you were intelligent enough to see our points, you wouldn’t sound like you were defending his stupidity. What he’s asking for is just plain wrong.
(Such as Title, menu and item themes of Metroid prime 1 for example. In Item Themefor example, the whole song almost sounds like Melotron now without the high end detail of the choir synths;with all that detail gone it sounds flat;. Despite in the original song mix it sounds like only the melody is in reality a Melotron. ;Google if you don’t know what a Melotron is).
But Great overall. Thanks!
And regards to the 17khz v 48khz person above. These are different things with the same name.
17Khz refers to where frequencies roll off in the mix(Think Low-Pass Filtering). 48Khz is one sample rate at which the Gamecube outputs audio, but the system actually does audio in 32khz and can be optionally converted to 48khz internally for output before it’s converted to analog at the output stage.
They aren’t the same thing.

*Sees that he is sorta right…still glares to keep the point*
I’ll drink to that! :Puts Zora mask on and kicks some butt: π
I might play it myself since I had the last 3 days off from work lol, but then I would have to wait 3 extra days for his incredible remaster. =/
EDIT: There’s this one (Thread 126595) too which sounds alot darker and more epic IMO than the other one if you didn’t know about this one either.
Just got the MP3 version. If you ever upload the FLAC version, I’ll be on the download list! ^^
Hologram cart or no?
I’m also excited for the Wii U remake of Wind Waker. That’s probably my 2nd favorite Zelda game after Majora’s Mask. Yes, I like it better than Ocarina of Time. Sue me.
Why? Ocarina of Time is just a mediocre rehash of A Link to the Past.
It’s not a bad game, but pretty much everything before it is better, in addition to a good amount of stuff that came after. Also the fact that it offers no real challenge unless you intentionally handicap yourself doesn’t appeal much to me either.
tl;dr my theory is if you think OoT is best you haven’t played much any Zelda

I do agree with this. OoT is a good game, but it’s just so overrated now, and I played so many times, it just got kinda old for me. I really like Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker because they are so different than the other Zelda games I’ve played. The reason I said "sue me" is because there are so many die hard OoT fans out there that can’t accept that other Zelda games are better than it.

Don’t be dumping on OOT. It’s still a fantastic game. It has new life in the 3DS version. It’s among the best But Majora’s Mask is alot better!! By the by, it’s March now. WHERE IS THE REMASTER OF MM?!
Looking forward to your Majora’s Mask remastering as well- any chance you might consider doing Super Mario Sunshine in the future? It was the only 3d Mario to not receive an official soundtrack.
OH MY GOD! THIS!! Would you consider remastering this Mr.Assett2?
I concur. I think Majora has killed him, silencing his efforts for the definitive Termina audio experience…
EDIT: Forgot Termina was destroyed on February 28th. :p
Either way, this type of projects take time, so give him that. The fruits of patience are always sweet.

You would be able to hear EVEN BETTER quality of the tracks…. and I mean ‘would’, in the sense that ‘you won’t’…. Why ‘won’t’ you? Because Bregalad’s GBAMusRiper thingy doesn’t seem to rip all the samples or something, so you get missing instruments…
But if you’re wondering what the quality could sound like, here’s an example from another game… showing a typical GSF rip, and then the same song as you get with GBAMusRiper:
Mario Kart: Super Circuit – Riverside Park | 01 – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTTvGXRYRJo)

I’ve had some family and legal issues in the past few months. Hopefully I get time in April and get going on these projects.
Again, sorry about disappearing on you guys.
Just take it easy. π
At any rate though I downloaded Prime 1 and 2 and the mp3 quality is pretty darn good. Probably the best I’ve heard out of mp3 in awhile. I’m definetly adding some of my favorite tracks from 1 and 2 into my collection and heck i’ll even give the music from 3 a chance even though I never played the 3rd game in the series. Only played Prime 1 and 2 when they were brand new releases on the Gamecube years ago.
disregard the post it’s not working for me a friend was having problems downloading so until I can figure out what’s wrong with my router and computer I’m not gonna host it sorry guys
I have no words
I am curious if in the future you may consider a re-release of this in the Ogg Vorbis format (.ogg) instead of using mp3? In a lot of ways Ogg is a better sounding format then mp3 and aac and isn’t tied down by patents to Apple and the original company that created mp3. π

From a technical POV there’s no point in doing that. Converting MP3 to OGG is just making things worse considering that MP3 and OGG both take data away from the audio stream each time you encode (IE they are lossy audio formats when FLAC is loseless). To put it another way that anyone could visualize try a JPG image file and save it ten to fiften times over and over and reload it each time you will see the image get full of blocks and distortions and artifacts. From what the author said on page one
Here are the download links to the compilation project in MP3. The originals were in FLAC, but I decided that the package was way too big and there isn’t much quality difference between the MP3 and the FLAC to justify a FLAC download IMO. But I may upload it just in case.
If he would have been able to upload his original FLAC files then I would have downloaded those and encoded them myself to to the OGG Vorbis format. But he did use the best mp3 encoder out there right now which is LAME v3.99 and he encoded it in a high enough bitrate that they still sound pretty good to me and I did add them to my music collection. I’m just picky more often then not because I just re-did my entire music collection from CD’s ive bought since the 80’s and ripped directly to the OGG file format. To me OGG vorbis files sound warmer, more natural, and don’t have that underlaying hiss and sizzle that you find so often in a lot of MP3 files on the net encoded either in a low bitrate or with an ancient encoder thats like ten years old and sounds worse. Good examples of mp3 hiss/sizzle are here too

do you perhaps have it remastered anywhere without soundeffects
No. Mr.Assett2 didn’t remaster these songs, so remastered versions of these songs don’t exist unfortunately (that I know of…)
google "joshw gcn"
that page has a tagged metroid prime 2 rip, native format
the title bgm is streamed, not sequenced, and is split into two mono files for some reason
don’t know how to combine them
Why did you start by removing data?
2. Ran that through a high quality de-clipper.
3. From there I ran that through a manual click and pop remover.
At what point did the originals clip? And how can’t you be sure your normalization didn’t cause those?
4. That to a re-sampler and high frequency synthesizer so that the high frequencies were restored to their original state
What does this accomplish that acquiring the original instruments and sequencing the music on them can’t?
5. I then took that and ran it through a de-constructor and removed some of the digital distortion and details that should have never been there to begin with.
Why do this, when doing what I said above would cause the digital distortion to not be present in the first place?
6. This then was ran through a volume leveling program.
Wouldn’t this go against the author’s vision? Volume differences are important for mood.
7. Each track was double-checked for quality accuracy and made sure it was clean enough for mastering.
Again, using the original instruments and recording them in a studio would be easier and result in a higher quality master.
8. The output of this was then run through a complex analog mastering setup. I first decided on having a -72db dynamic range for every track. I got the hardware to a noise level of almost non-existent. (I had to borrow some hardware from a friend)
What good is converting digital to analog? If you’re doing a remaster, you want to start analog and keep the process that way as long as possible.
10. I set up an analog reverb at around -40db for dynamic range and detail beyond the 16-bit original file.
11. Then through an exciter to refresh the the entire spectrum and remove the dull sound quality of the original files.
Your volume leveler probably destroyed more detail than was "missing" from the originals.
12. This into a nice 2-band compressor for bringing out the smooth bass harmonics and mid harmonics the exciter created.
Again, why are you removing data?
13. This goes into a nice pre-amp to add some life back into the audio.
This also goes further against your use of the volume
14. This into a 4-band compressor to add some richness.
Again, why are you removing data?
15. This into one of my favorite equalizers.
What bands are you accentuating? Why are you doing this when there’s so much data that you’re missing?
16. Then I mixed this down to a reel-to-reel tape. (This put me back quite a lot as that tape gets expensive very quickly!)
What does this accomplish? If you had that kind of money, you could have easily sprung for the synths and had a much higher quality source to work with.
17. From here I go to an excellent stereo widener.
So, that explains the strange reverb on everything.
18. This into a soft limiter
19. Whatever went over 0db was caught by the excellent limiter I had directly after that.
20. I then had one of my favorite limiters setup after to catch any overs that the other limiter might have missed.
This invalidates the limiters you had going in step 6.
21. The output of all this was recorded into my PC via my EPIC (emphasis on epic) capture card into Adobe Audition at 96khz/24-bit.
What does this accomplish when the source was at a lower sample rate?
22. The output was down-sampled to 44.1khz sample-rate (almost pointless as that my reel-to-reel is a classic and starts sloping down at 17-ish khz)
Why do this when you could have recorded at 44.1khz from the get-go and have the results sound better?
23. The file was also dithered to 16-bit with one of my favorite digital dithering setups that gave exactly -72db of dynamic range but you can hear as far as -144db with it.
Why do this when you could have recorded at 16-bit from the get-go and have the results sound better?
24. This was then exported to a .wav file, encoded to MP3, tagged, and when the entire thing was finished, packaged, and uploaded. You have the output of that huge process.
What was stopping you from exporting to FLAC without using MP3 as a go-between?

I know how often this has been mentioned and remedied, but to maybe save other people discovering and having gone through the pages and posts covering it, I felt I or at least the OP, more than anyone should post this:
*NOT Included-
MP2 ‘Agon Wastes Main Theme’
MP2 ‘Intro Theme’
MP3 ‘Staff Credits’
ERRORS-
MP2 ‘Torvus Main Theme’ = ‘Dark Torvus Bog’
MP2 ‘Luminoth Farewell’ = ‘Escape from Dark Aether (part 2)’
And the MP2 ‘Staff Credits’- Did it really need to be repeated in the same file, even after the track faded out naturally (or thereafter ripping)?
*All of this information from my own realisation and understanding, if there are any further irregularities, I haven’t noticed them.

AHH!! thank you so much! π
From the copy of Prime 1 I did detect a great amount of time and care went into these tracks, so if possible I’d like them in a state closest to what he intended. (aka: I’m kinda a stickler for organization and if I could I’d like to get my hands on the files linked on the main post) That being said, I’m very grateful to Disgaeahawk for re-upping in lossless regardless. Thanks dude.
I talked to mikeman_61 and he was able to give me links to Echoes and Corruption; without his help these might have been lost to the masses forever.
So I’ve reuploaded all three MP3 versions of the remastered soundtrack. Here’s the MEGA link (https://mega.co.nz/#F!XQ9UgCrS!ywTzxSNohgVDA6fX92M2kg).

I’m simply forced to use it when I find myself in need of creating an album cover from scratch.

Keep in mind, these were thrown together in like, 10 minutes and I’m not a GIMP wizard by any means.
I’m simply forced to use it when I find myself in need of creating an album cover from scratch.
(custom Demon’s Souls cover in there too as a bonus because the official one is criminally bad)
Those are pretty badass, man!
Some people (like me) prefer the version with tags… yours is untagged.
My own MEGA links (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/metroid-prime-trilogy-remaster-project-flac-official-125632/15.html#post2693193) have the tagged versions.
It’s a good thing both versions of this remaster are readily available!
Does anyone know if the FLAC version is also uploaded to MEGA? oh nvm just read that the flac was not released in the end.

Hmm. I must’ve uploaded the original files, which weren’t tagged, but it’s all tagged on my computer now.

Thanks to Mr. Asett for all the hard work on this huge project and thanks to the people who shared a MEGA link too! Much appreciated π

Flac wasn’t released? That info’s wrong as almost everything’s lossless on his rips except for the missing tracks.
Well, the OP says "The originals were in FLAC, but I decided that the package was way too big and there isn’t much quality difference between the MP3 and the FLAC to justify a FLAC download IMO. But I may upload it just in case." Just that there are no flac links. π
Or maybe the links are somewhere else and I can’t find them?
That entire post made my sides hurt, I think people will just download anything with "REMASTER!!!!1!11" slapped on it.

Reup… please… anyone ?
Good news!
Which, thanks for reuploading by the way.

I’ll try and upload the other 2 tomorrow.
Edit: Sorry I’m a couple days late. Here are the other games:
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: MEGA (https://mega.nz/#!uwkAWYiR!c8aYOUumE5FHZHlBBtj6-2DR9eHCm4KNTtGjJ4Fgh48)
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption: MEGA (https://mega.nz/#!issCAIZI!BcWW-YmVshyRQGFxPvelsIHA0c-3gMtjscQVQzbwo5E)
The password is the same as the 1st game. Two things I should mention: Echoes from Prime 2 is in MP3 format, not FLAC, and I shortened Prime 2’s end credits so it doesn’t repeat. The song has an actual ending, and it bugged me that it looped.

Not the same version, but in FLAC
Not the same version, but in FLAC
Thanks for those looking for it, but I gotta say and insist that there really is a huge difference between the original CD release and what the OP managed to do with the remastering of the soundtracks.
I got his versions from years ago, and the quality is plain incredible. Usually when you see "remastered" on retail / gamerip soundtracks, it’s pretty funny ’cause you can’t really fix what is broken or not, it is as it is and you can only apply patches on it, but here… A lot of work was done and the process explained is definitely not bullshit, he did it a lot more to these soundtracks than many music labels who bought rights to sell records (Mondo, Iam8bit ?).
So, thanks to the OP that I never had the correctness to thank at the time, I never met the same quality on any other fan "remaster" than what you did here.
In the end, they’re both terrible to be honest. One is vastly incomplete, suffers from audio clipping and bad reverb and the other suffers from poor use of equalization, destroyed dynamic range, even worse reverb and an overall loss of detail.
Prime Blue’s rip is still the definitive version of the soundtrack to this day. A straight up gamerip where all the audio bugs have been fixed. Unless Nintendo releases the uncompressed original recordings this is as good as it gets.
Speaking of which, do you know where Prime Blue’s rip is? By the way, Prime Blue’s work on Twilight Princess rip is the best around IMO.
Metroid Database (https://www.metroid-database.com/music-all-games/) has his Metroid Prime 1 & 2 rips in MP3 quality, unfortunately I can’t seem to find a working link for the FLACs. Maybe someone in the Lossless Thread has them?
Sadly enough, this "remaster" is the very reason Prime Blue ended up leaving the scene forever (Thread 91364).

As I said you can’t reach perfection with something already done, you can just apply patches over it, overall I enjoy a lot what he did and seeing the thread, many people are pleased (more than unpleased ones). I respect different opinions and I do understand why a gamerip is perhaps the "best" release when the official one has mastering problems not present in the game files though.
Gotta add, I don’t know if there’s differences between the original MP1 Remaster done by Assett1 (the one i Have) and the one that has been added / tweaked when the whole trilogy has been released two years later.
About Prime Blue’s departure, I’m sorry to say that but that’s plain bullshit and quite cocky to say the least. I got huge respects for people uploading, working and sharing game music rips, but really, you can’t go on the "don’t steal my work" field when yourself are stealing and distributing for free the musical creation of someone else. You can’t take credits for the original composer. You share his work because you believe it needs to be listened by as many as possible (in the best conditions possible maybe considering this one had a commercial release).
To add even more on that, Assett1 never used his gamerip for his first remaster, he used the CD soundtrack, he simply mentionned he could perhaps use his rip to see if it could be better than the CD release, he never used anything without his knowledge but PB’s jumped on the thread and directly attacked him… Assett1 even said he wouldn’t necessarily release the reworked rip after that, just that he might, giving him credits obviously. Like anyone might repost any other soundtrack upload, giving credits to the original uploader.
Honestly, even if I can understand the reaction at first, that’s definitely a lame and pathetic move from him, never share anything online if you get mad with what people do of your uploads after that.
The very same thing happened recently in an other thread, kudos to him, our fellow uploader kirbyhammer7 is patient enough to discuss about what was a problem for him instead of leaving the hall like a angry child.

EDIT: Actually, the sizes of the ones here are a little larger, forgot I hadn’t unzipped them yet.

I didn’t know about that and it saddens me because we know all the hard work involved in ripping game music straight from the source.
The sizes of the 5 folders in the Unabridged version (UNZIPPED FLAC) are:
Titles, menus, etc: 110 MB
MP 1: 756 MB
MP 2: 826 MB
MP 3: 864 MB
Bonus Gallery Soundtrack: 589 MB
EDIT: Aha, I see this was dy32light’s Unabridged Remaster, just had to read through the thread…
