Be British! – R.R.BENNETT, Far from the Madding Crowd + RON GOODIN, Sampler @320k

Two very different film music albums, coupled here with the flimsiest of excuses: them both being by British composers.

Arguably, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD has remained Richard Rodney Bennett’s most distinguished film score, presented here in
the original soundtrack version. It’s powerfully emotional music at times, quite surprising to come from a composer
whose countrymen just cannot seem to remove their broomsticks from their asses (I’m there a dozen times a year. ;))

The second CD is a 1970-ish sampler (actually, a 1980-ish re-packaging) by Ron Goodwin, conducting "his" orchestra (a pick-up band, no doubt).
It contains some particularly lively renditions of selections from his own scores, as well as a few truly disturbing arrangements of classics by
other composers, including a Lawrence of Arabia "Bol�ro"(!) (His Ben-Hur cue, especially, is like no other version of R�zsa’s music).

Dear Wimpel69, I know you were adamant in pulling the link but was hoping as an homage to the recent passing of RR Benett, you could be persuaded to re-up his magnificent score.

I second that request! I’ve heard Far From the Madding Crowd is the crowning achievement of RR Bennett’s impressive career.

Richard Rodney Bennett always considered his score for The Orient Express to be his best effort- especially the music when the train leaves. Read his obituaries. In the DVD commentary he talked about creating a score that was GLAMOROUS- not scary or thrilling. Hence the classy waltz. Lumet, the director, was in complete agreement (he already had told the costume designer to design GLAMOROUS COSTUMES… not clothes)– tuning out the sound effects- making the sound effects man weep- when the Orient Express starts out.
