This score is alarmingly good – even Sakuraba’s pieces! I’m really, really looking forward to this release – I do hope that somebody manages to dig it out and share it. Not being Japanese or a gamer, my chances of hearing it otherwise are basically zero.

I want this soundtrack so bad. It’s about $70 on ebay, and I’m really really tempted at this point. I’d much prefer an official place to purchase it, but Nintendo’s sheer lack of effort to get it over here is making it even more tempting… But this soundtrack… My God… It’s fantastic.

Sorry for the aggressive tone but it’s quite clear a lot of people want this gamerip. Just use a good jack plug input into a microphone port and save at 320kbps VBR MP3 or FLAC I guess?

Wow. Sorry, I’m just trying to share something that I found with everyone that wants it. Like all of you, I’m sure, I’ve been on Google everyday trying to find a copy of either the official 25-track OST or a good game rip. I stumbled upon a Youtube user that had quite a few videos of tracks from the game and I noticed that someone had a posted a comment on one of the videos requesting a download link for the tracks. The Youtube user told him to PM him for it. I did the same and then posted that I had found that on here. So, anyway, as I said above, these aren’t converted MP3s of the Youtube videos, they are decent quality files ripped from the game itself. I’ll post the link to the files for you guys and a link to the above mentioned video where I saw that original comment concerning the link to the download.

Really, even after a year since its release? Ugh…you see, I don’t really care THAT much about Kid Icarus Uprising’s soundtrack, but I am EXTREMELY anxious for Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance’s music. I really hope that’s not true, though if it is, I GUESS I could wait until April 18th when the official soundtrack for KH3D is released. Still, I’ve been coming on to these forums for well over half a decade now, and this sort of situation seems entirely unprecedented to me.

(sort of, the registration/account validation thing took 3 days before I’va been able to post -and my previous posts in this thread never landed here- :/)

A little history about myself: I’m in VG music for years now, first on vgmp3, then and still on gamingforce, and finally taking some time here as ffshrine is probably the largest VG music loving community.
I don’t consider myself a good riper, as I don’t have many music/sound editing knowledge, good capturing hardware etc… But I usually love early rips for game franchises which I love traditionnals themes. Lately, I’ve done some 3DS sample rips that nearly noone found interesting (Pilotwings Resort and Starfox 64 3D, that finally both came out in an official CD in the japanese Club Nintendo) 🙂

So I’m VERY surprised there is still nothing worth downloading (except those atrocious links from guys who think youtube is made for music upload) about Kid Icarus. Maybe people are lazy because a CD will also be released by Nintendo?
Anyway, I’ve done this preliminary rip just for you and me. I just ripped some tracks I like, mainly themes remixes from the first Kid Icarus. I hope you will enjoy it and I hope I made it with a decent ripping quality!

It’s impossible for anyone to have ripped the OST as the Japanese aren’t getting it until mid/late April, so we’ve still got a few weeks until any rip shows up for the official OST. As for them appearing on eBay, they’re just merely pre-orders for us from the Japanese sellers.

I have heard in the past that these sorts of files that come from the 3DS are AES-encrypted, which is a government standard–meaning effectively that they can’t be broken (e.g. the amount of computation time required for a brute-force attack would be something like greater than the age of the universe, or something really crazy along those lines). Thus, no one expected rips to be available until like 10 years after the release of the 3DS when some hacker finally figures SOME sort of "trick" out. So it’s interesting that we have 3DS rips here. Not that I’m complaining, nor am I asking for the specifics, but I’m just wondering why this was so easy to do when I heard that it was ridiculously hard. Again, I don’t need details, but I would like some sort of idea. As it stands, I haven’t downloaded thse files and I’m a bit "suspicious" about them, to be perfectly honest.

They’ve been using Jack plugs.

Perhaps I’m missing something here, but in order to play the game the files must be decrypted. Breaking encryption without a key is tantamount to impossible (in a broad sense) but this is something different. It is a case of discovering the key; finding out how to pull it off the cartridge. That’s only a matter of time, surely?

Probably the same thing as BluRay AACS decryption. Once you have the necessary keys, decryption is an easy task. Getting/computing/reverse engineering the keys, that’s the hard part.

BD encryption was initially broken by writing some code that sniffed around waiting for a player to decrypt prior to playback and then pulled the key straight out of memory, if memory serves. It’s a wonderful weakness with all this encryption; somewhere in all that mess is the decryption key 100% of the time, otherwise you have a disc full of completely useless data. It becomes not an issue of breaking the encryption, but discovering where they’ve hidden the key in the inevitable torrent of obfuscation. That’s what hackers are good at. 🙂

This no longer works though and more important, BD encryption was never really broken. You still need a valid/non-revoked host certificate to authenticate with the drive (safe one which has a firmware bug and lets you read the VID "for free") and the processing keys for the respective AACS "version".

And I only know of three host certificates that got leaked: The PowerDVD7 one, the one coming with the original aacskeys and a PS3 one. I think all of these have been revoked so far.

EDIT: I’m aware of the bus sniffing method using dumpvid, but that only yields the VID and still leaves you with the AACS processing keys problem.

How on earth does present BD ripping work, then?

No idea. All such tools are proprietary. But my guess is that Slysoft (AnyDVD HD dev) has some non-revoked certificates that they use for decryption. AFAIK you don’t need the host certificate and the processing keys on the local machine, so you could just offload this computation onto a dedicated server on the net. Which keep reverse engineers away from the keys (since they’re simply not in the program binary). And since keys don’t get leaked publicly the AACS guys can’t revoke anything (they wouldn’t know what to revoke). The only thing you need on the local machine is the VUK (volume unique key). But the VUK only works with the corresponding BD, it doesn’t help you at all for decrypting other media.

Now this still leaves the question where they got the host certificate from initially? Reverse engineering from a common player software? Well, as long as they keep the key to themself we will never know.
Same question applies to the processing keys.

I don’t think my use of a mixed metaphor should really distract from the basic thrust of what I said; it is not necessary to act in an offensive manner – unless you’re sufficiently unsophisticated that rudeness is the only way to get your point across. I do not think that about you, so I do not understand why you have to make such aggressive responses in this thread; some monumentally terrible rips have passed by, there’s no doubt about that. Just in case you guys haven’t seen this separate thread, someone posted what appears to be a complete rip (66 tracks) of the soundtrack from the game (not the official OST sampler that hasn’t yet surfaced). From the comments it seems like it’s good quality too. I’m downloading it now and will see for myself how it sounds 🙂

P.S. You don’t have to download every track individually as it may first appear. Scroll down to the bottom and you’ll find 4 separate folders that you can use to download in bulk.

Okay, so the rip I posted a link to above is not perfect in terms of sound quality. I didn’t expect it to be. But, it’s definitely listenable, and in terms of completeness, it’s the best we’ve seen so far. It’s a least a good holdover until either someone figures out a way to do such a complete rip in better quality or Nintendo releases a proper full OST for the game. Though, for the time being I’d be happy with just the special selection CD that should pop up sometime soon.

So where are we on FLACs?

Okay so here’s the deal: I finally was able to afford the game, and I must say, this is THE BEST VG SOUNDTRACK EVER!
I am going to make a line-in gamerip in FLAC using the sound test (even if someone else does it first, my version will surface in this thread.), but I have six issues I must address.
1. I will first finish my current project.
2. I need to beat the game and unlock all of the music first, which could take a while.
3. I need an answer to the following: Since the 3DS’s Surround Sound setting is virtual surround (to my knowledge), the only difference between it and Stereo is likely a more atmospheric sound (which is good). On the other hand, the Surround setting might be actual 5.1 (or Dolby PL2) when outputting through the headphone jack, so Stereo might be a better choice. I can only provide you with the sound in Stereo, and native Stereo sounds way better than Surround mixed down to Stereo.
So what do you prefer, Stereo or Surround?
4. I’d probably be giving each song two full loops, then a ten second fade, or two loops + 5 seconds, + a 5 second fade. (or whatever you guys think).
5. I would do all recording at the 3DS’s medium volume (or my PC’s input volume on medium… Which volume settings make there be less white noise and humming?). This would prevent clipping, and would be done all at once to ensure that all tracks are at the same RMS level without amplification, resulting in no degradation upon any of the audio signal.
6. I’d be releasing FLAC first, then MP3 (if necessary), then whatever else, such as M4A (as it goes up to 512 kbps, which is supported by everything that supports M4A, even if it says it only supports up to 320).
Good thing Masahiro Sakurai always puts a Sound Test in his Games! I’ll be doing this for his next pair of games as well… (You can hold me to that statement.)

3DS "Surround Sound" is a poor digital effect applied to STEREO source material. The tracks should be output in NATIVE STEREO and nothing more. If people want to destroy the music with crummy audio filters, they can do so independently.

I was just going to answer your question when I started reading your post (you know, before reading that far into your post). Anyway, yes, but I’m going to record it from that one time it plays in the game (I won’t spoil anything), thus avoiding Home Menu sounds. Likewise, I’ll get the Orne and Reaper themes, and at least 5 others. I have one problem, though: I’ve but three more songs to unlock, yet they’re the hardest (It ain’t easy defeating a boss on intensity 5.0 with full health).

Also I want to use the higher quality versions of the songs, located in the OST from Japanese Club Nintendo, which might have the only SFX-free version of the title screen theme. For some reason, though, nobody got their CD’s yet. If I could register to Japanese Club Nintendo, I’d get it myself. If I had enough money, I’d buy the one off ebay.

Also, I know what to do with the 3DS’s volume, but should I put the PC volume at medium and adjust the input volume in Audacity? Or should I put it at medium in audacity, and adjust the PC volume?

[EDIT] So I wanted to do this on my Win7 PC, but apparently it’s too stupid. It won’t accept the line-in, even though I spent hours making sure everything was set up correctly. It won’t even work through XP Mode!

BTW, Guess who just unlocked all of the music? For some reason, I have the 3DS volume, Line-in volume, and in-game volume at max, but the waveforms are looking a little small. (I guess the 3DS is not as loud as I thought. Though back when I recorded audio from Nintendo Video on the 3DS, it was clipping… Hmmm…)

Afternoon, I’ve been lurking on here for many moons, seeking out OSTs, just thought I would point out that a few Youtube vids have appeared claiming to be (and sounding like they could well be) from the Soundtrack CD so hopefully that will be up on the net soon. I am desperate to get hold of it but all the Mediafire links from the Youtube user have all ready been taken down. Keep your eyes peeled!.

I got over 2k of stars in my Club Nintendo account, really want the soundtrack here but I bet if they did release it they would charge around 4.5k worth 🙁 oh well back to the lurking, perhaps I will see some of you at Distant Worlds London in November, bye.

What country are you in? we get stars 200 – 250 per title and CDs are 2000 – 4850 each. the CD is 400 points in Japan isn’t it? how many games is that?.

I’m in Michigan. And we get 30-50 coins per title, and a extra 10 if we reserved it, and another 10 coins for completing a survey on the game we bought.

We get little scratch off panel things in the games, we go online and enter the code, we sometimes get the odd survey they give you 50 stars a time, I think we get 1000 for a wii and half that for a handheld.never had any extra given for reserving anything

I can’t seem to beat Boss Battles anymore. I keep failing against the second-to-last boss. And that’s on Easy! Don’t worry, though. BTW, I’ve over 100 coins, but I hate to say that I doubt we’ll get the CD. You can, however, email them about it. I’ve sent emails to Reggie and Aonuma before, and Nintendo will redirect it to the person for you (even to Japan, as Aonuma responded, though it was a translation of course). Don’t expect a response, but they do actually read their emails. When they say that the 50,000 OoT 3D CDs had such high demand, NOA delivered another 100,000 for the U.S.

Well it should be linked to RRP. at the moment it’s all 250 unless it’s over a year old (I think) then it’s 200. obviously we only get surveys on the new stuff so some new titles such as Xeno give you 300. the RRP of KIU and most other 3DS titles are 39.99 going down to 34.99, most Wii titles are 29.99+ with a few exceptions and most DS are 19.99 -29.99 so I think it really should be about RRP.

I’d also like to see more gifts and less bullshit, Club Nintendo is full of ringtones and wallpapers, things they could give us for free when registering titles, instead we get bullshit like the crappy looking coin collection if you register the big 3 Wii RPGs and the Xeno soundtrack offer was a total mess, it was broken for ages and could only be downloaded by particular PC programs (which they didn’t say you had to google to find that out).

Also, I am having trouble getting the Reaper song without SFX from the Reapettes (the Reaper’s song counts as SFX, so I can’t just mute the sounds).

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE JINGLE AFTER BOSS BATTLES IS SFX? One way to tell, is If other music plays during it. Do any sounds play during it? I don’t want to have to go through every boss multiple times to find out, so hopefully I can get an answer before I start.
Keep in mind I still have to cut and export all of the songs.

EDIT: Nevermind on the last question. It was a song (not SFX). I got it.
And as far as those "glitches" are concerned, I’ve only noticed one being present: Ch. 8: The Space Pirate Ship.

EDIT: I just fixed that glitch (not by editing, but by re-recording). Also fixed the menu theme.

10 is part of Ch. 15: Mysterious Invaders, and 11 is Ch. 19: The Lightning Chariot. Only #10 is Aurum.

Also, what do you mean by boredom annoying me? I am actually a pretty busy person (I was at college most of today), and don’t ever get around to being bored (hence the reason I don’t play many games aside from Zelda and a select few others). I’m the kind of person who likes to make things, and has a Start menu (XP) that doesn’t fit on the screen. And I’m even busier with stuff unrelated to my computer (Don’t get me started). Good music is a HUGE priority to me, and these forums are where it’s at. I just check on the forums when I’m on my computer, regardless of what I’m doing on it. I also check every once in a while, or when I get the emails from the Shrine about subscribed threads with new posts.

I told you NOE are shit they hardly ever bother replying to anything. I don’t know if its still the case but back in the GC days they only had like two members of staff dealing with online stuff as a side job and they took it in turns to use the terminal because only one PC was designated for the task.

Rather crappy when you consider they go to all the bother of sending inspectors from Germany to snoop around Dev offices before licensing them to use their mascot, yet they don’t seem to think twice about giving the consumer a good level of service/feedback online. So here’s the deal, guys. Though I’ve been very busy lately, I’ve managed to record and edit all of the music, except for one song. Now all that is left is encoding and uploading. There’s one thing, though: That song is the SFX that plays when a Reaper spots you. I cannot seem to rip it without the Reapettes’ SFX, so you’ll have to deal with hearing that sound.

I had to go back and apply some serious Noise Removal on the audio, so now I need to re-export everything. I’m not sure where the noise came from, but I got rid of most of it. There was no noticeable degradation on the audio signal, and it sounds reasonable now..
Just remember that it takes a while to process over 5 hours of music, even with two cores.

Yes, which is exactly why it’s taking so long, as I had to start over from the unedited files.
I’m encoding now. The raw version is huge… I can give you a raw song or two, though. Basically, it was just a cross between a buzz and a hum. Luckily, it was of low volume and constant throughout the entire recording. I tweaked the NR settings until it sounded perfect, and I swear there was no degradation, whatsoever that is noticeable to your ears. I’ll post an image of the spectrograms before and after for proof, once I have it uploaded. Note that the audio is noticeably so-so quality, but that’s just the way the audio sounds in the game. As it was stored in the game in that quality, even a re-recording could not fix that. The quality of my FLACs (and even my MP3s) is noticeably better than the other rip in this thread, but I still must say that they did a good job.

EDIT: I’m uploading, but it’s taking a WHILE. Instead of just putting as many files as I could in one archive and going on to the next, I split archives to .part1.rar, .part2.rar, etc., that way there are less files to download. Also, I’ll be linking to a new thread, because that will be easier for other people to find, and because the post will be big and updated.

I will admit that I thought that the presence of the official album would make your rip obsolete before it even arrived… but I’m flabbergasted and ANNOYED at how the album seems to deliberately omit the best music. It needed to be a two disc set.

Therefore, your work was most definitely NOT in vain; it’s simply a necessity to enjoy this score.

Yes, I’ll give you one song + the leading and trailing silence. I think track 2 would be good, as you can hear the noise over the oboe part if I remember correctly.
I may ask for help, but I’m gonna try something first, as this is a problem I’ve had beferoe with .part2.rars and .part3.rars. If so, I may have to give it to you via torrent, though.
