A second classic silent film score by Edmund Meisel (Battleship Potemkin), composed for an almost surrealistic,
pioneering "Bergfilm" (mountain adventure) by Arnold Fanck.

Tracks:
1. Prelude / Diotimas Dance To The Sea (05:52)
2. Two Friends From The Mountains / Grande Hotel / Mazurka / Nocturne (04:50)
3. Diotimas Walk Into The Mountains / Spring In The Mountains / Bridge Of Ice / The Meadow / The Meeting (08:32)
4. In His Homeland / He And His Mother / The Kiss (04:02)
5. The Great Long-Distance Run (05:32)
6. The Horrible Northern Steep Mountain Side (06:51)
7. The Abyss / Hallucinations / Bad News For Diotima (07:52)
8. The Act / Torch-Lights In The Night (06:25)
9. His World / Vision / The Temple / The Rescue Team / The Funeral Procession / Fidelity (08:27)

Music Composed and Orchestrated by Edmund Meisel
Played by the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (RSI)
Conducted by Helmut Imig

"[Meisel’s] music for The Holy Mountain is romantic, and indeed veers into the impressionistic at times, in keeping with the mood and subject of the movie.
The playing by the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana is impeccable, and [the] score is revealed as substantial enough to stand on its own, separate from the movie
for which it was written — the lyricism of parts of The Holy Mountain score is extremely beguiling, and that film’s music may yet find an audience."
Bruce Eder, AllMusic

It’s quite a coincidence, as I’m currently reading a biography of Leni Riefenstahl, and it discussed this film, prior to her own directing. Will check our this score for sure. Thanks for posting!
