So I’ve started playing this again and I am just bored to tears. I didn’t remember how ridiculous the encounter rate was for one. The world and dungeons seem small and very simple….But just the overall pace of the game seems completely off. Quina?

I’m sorry you feel that way. Although yes, Quina is a total joke in my opinion.

Kind of reminds me of Jar Jar Binks…but I can’t say I hate this game, or obsess over it…

I don’t know how people can dislike Quina. I mean, he/she just has no brain, and only cares about food, and just talks about it in very inappropriate times. He/she provides great comic relief in the game. 🙂

Comic relief is fine, but when a completely pointless character becomes one of the main cast, it feels very out of place. I mean they had a huge choice of characters to choose from but instead picked Quina. Seriously; Mikoto, Lani, hell even REGENT FRIGGIN’ CID would’ve made an acceptable alternative! But they just had to fill eight character slots, so they dreamt up Quina to needlessly fill one. Yes, I love FFIX, so when there’s something I don’t like, I take it very personally. Shut up, it’s not funny.

I see where you’re coming from, but the characters you mentioned may have more to do with the plot but how can any of them be main protagonists in FF9? Cid is a possibility, but the others most certainly are not. But yeah, Quina has very little do with the plot and I can see why therefore, you’d remove her from the main character listing if you had a choice.

That being said there’s worse than Quina, remember Gogo in FF6? What was he to the plot again? :p

Man, Gogo was optional. Actually helpful in battle, though. Quina is neither. 😡

I suppose so. I never did bother leveling Quina as high as I should have due to my strong disliking for hi/er/m :(. Maybe on my next playthrough I’ll run the crazy chef through a few battles and find out what s/he’s really got cookin’.
