I’ve got a scheme to make my copy of FF8 playable…will it work?

Hi.

I have FF8 right now, but I can’t play it, because on disc 2, the cutscene freezes up due to scratches.

I’ve tried to get past it for a year now.

Now, knowing a bit more about ISOs, (if you think this kinda stuff shouldnt be on the forums you can delete it now) I was wondering this:

If I found a (FFVIII Disc 2 ISO)…

1. How would I get it on a standard CD? (I’m pretty sure it would be bigger than 700 megs)

2. If I start up the (legit) FFVIII disc, then switch to the (backup) disc before the cutscene, will
a. the ps1 detect it as a copy?
b. the disc go through the cutscene without freezing?

You will not be able to play any copy of a game on your system unless a mod chip is installed or you have a boot disc (same goes for imported games). So you’re plan will not work.

You should try to get yourself a boot disc (cheaper) first before trying anything. Also, all PS1 games are on CDs, so they’ll fit on a CD-R.

So, even if I start up the official disc, then load the game, and, once in the game, switch the disc to the copy, the PS1 would STILL detect the copy disc as a copy? hmm…

Or what you could do is go on eBay and just buy the disc you want. I’ve noticed there are some sellers just selling individual discs. Because I don’t have the 4th disc of FFIX, I might buy the disc instead of rebuying the whole game.

As far as buying a single disc goes..well, I have no idea if 3 and 4 work or not (1 has one bad moment that i eventually got through) . I got it from a friend for free.

I used a boot disc when I had a fat gray PS1 and what happened was that the game will run really slow during cutscenes (in FF8’s case, during FMV scenes) and will randomly crash during gameplay. Hmm… Well, I dunno. I really just wanted to see if i could find a free way to get my disc to work (already have the CDrs). Also, that site is listed as a phishing site. oh well. no ff8 for me.

I’ve bought a few things from this site myself which included a flip top lid for the slim PS2 along with 2 different PS2 boot discs (one broke because a 20lb weight dropped on the DVD version disc). But the only way to get your disc to work for free is….well, I guess stealing another disc or swapping it with someone elses.

Ha. I’m sure somebody else has a working copy of ff8 in my yokel town of bowmansville, let alone video games.

I have a few already on an emulator…but no emulator beats the real console.

So, while we’re on this topic…Do any of the swap tricks work for my PS1 model? (SPCH-5501). I couldn’t find it on the model list. I hear that you can play copy games on a ps1 that way too.

There is one. ePSXe. You could use that if you want to. It’s the best emulator ever and is better than the original console, because you can make the graphics better. Plus it works perfectly 🙂

Already have EPSXE. Memcard doesn’t work on my PC. Does on others tho. I mostly use PsX because it functions right.

Two bucks and you can get those scratches resurfaced at a video store or something. That’d save you a lot of trouble.

Yeah, you can use a banana, but toothpaste method is cheaper 🙂

The toothpaste method is worth a try for scratched discs…it cant hurt ’em…whether it helps em or not seems to work sometimes but not every time.
