Ripping music from PS1 and PS2 games

Hi all, Im a noob 🙂 Thanks for having such a class site.

I just wondered, Im wanting to rip some PS2 music in lossless format (to replace my MP3s), and Ive reached randomly for Spyro: A Hero’s Tail. Ive never done this before, so Im not sure what I need to do.

The DVD has .PSS files and .IRX files, plus a huge 1gb+ file called Filelist.000

Any idea how I can rip music from this title?

I’m going to look at some other PS2 games and see what the deal is.

I wouldnt mind trying some PS1 game rips too. Ive managed to extract XA files from PS1 games in the past, but some games — in particular Syphon Filter 1 and 2 — seem to have music in another format. Does anyone know of any other PS1 rippers besides things like XA rippers?

This should get you started. But just a little bit of advice I can give, for ripping, you could try PSound or PSXMC. While not very great of PS2 games (but they do work sometimes), they do work for many PSX games … generally.

Well allow me to rephrase – at the moment the games I mention above are causing me hassle and I would like to know how to rip from these titles (and therefore other games that use the same file extentions). Those other three links werent any help, Im afraid 🙁

not all games can be ripped by extracting data. occasionally you have to resort to playing the game and recording things.

I don’t have much psx ripping experience though ~
