A guess at how FFXII’s battles will work

Based on this image from the FFXIII Graphics thread, I think I’ve figured out how the battles in FFXIII will work. In the far left corner you see a menu. This obviously will allow the player to choose from different combat actions. Off to the right of that and slightly above, we see five slots which seem to be a "queue" for the player to list actions in, which would then be executed from left to right. Each attack costs a number of "ATB points", (listed to the right of the action’s name in the command menu. At the bottom of the screen we see the amount of ATB points that can be in the queue at once. In the top-right corner is an "adrenaline meter" type thing which when full will allow you to enter a "bullet-time" type phase. Any thoughts on this idea?

The first time I saw this, I just thought how I would be looking at everything except the actual battle. Now that I’m looking at it again, I think the exact same thing.

All those colored bars and actions to select are pretty good for giving me one huge headache. I don’t know, maybe SE will make it simple enough to be tolerable but somehow I doubt it. I don’t know about the rest you guys, but if I’m playing a FF it’s so I can relax, not juggle countless commands and millions of combos.

I like the strategic element, but maybe this is taking it a little far.

hahaha just noticed it says "blizzrad" instead of "blizzard" on the left bar.

Maybe that bar at the left is just a "shortcut" menu, and the commands you use most can be set to it.

Might have something similar to the "reaction" element introduced in Kingdom Hearts II, triggering little set pieces and stuff.

it looks way to complicated right now I hope atb points are like mp. I personally like the current battle system (from FFXII) if you can improve it fine but if your gonna make things so that it takes forever to execute an attack while getting destroyed by the enemy than god help us all (or hyne in this case)

I think that it`ll be similar to older FFs, but with a little more action, maybe with the thing that you can move around the arena a bit.. Maybe even something like Parasite Eve 2, I can`t understand it at all now.

I`ll just pray for the Planet that S-E won`t bring FFXII system, I still don`t know why I hate it so much…

i like the look of it.
things like this always seem a little complicated at first, but i bet would take about 5 minutes to get the hang of.

That’s true I was utterly confused the first time I played FFXII and even FFVIII (but that might be because I was 6 or 7 the first time i played it) FFVII didn’t confuse me too much.
