Blitzball-Hidden Teams?

Fellas and ladies, I’m on a playthrough of X-2 at the moment. As I’ve probably said in the past I’m a big fan of the Blitzball minigames (both in X and X-2). Anyway my problem is, I read in the official walkthrough guide that the Besaid Aurochs and the Zanarkand Abes are available to unlock for exhibition matches. Problem is it doesn’t say how, it says that they come up as prizes in tournaments from time to time but I’ve never found them despite trying for ages.

Has anyone else been able to unlock them, if so, what am I doing wrong, and also, are they any good? The Gullwings are pretty much unbeatable now…….

Bitzball was ass. I only played long enough to get attack reels.

Take it you’re talking about Blitzball on FFX not FFX-2 as Attack Reels aren’t on X-2, either way though, I disagree. Blitzball was one of the most addictive mini-games in the entire series. Only the Fort Condor strategy game from FF7 comes close for me.

Edit: I should probably add that I don’t mean to start a debate in this thread as I was hoping for an answer to my question. If you want to debate it though by all means start a seperate thread.

I wish I could help, but I didn’t care for FFX-2 blitzball, only FFX blitzball. I think I recall reading though that the secret teams are only available in New Game Plus.

That’d be why then. I’ll give it a go on New Game Plus. Going to take a while to build up my stats again though, but ah well. I want to see what the Abes are like and who the Aurochs have on their extended squad list.

To unlock the Besaid Aurochs, during the 5th Chapter at Besaid.. You must see Beclem do his special "shot"… But before that, you must have previously talked to him via the commsphere in Chapter 4 (Though, i’m not too sure you must talk to Beclem previously in chapter 4 because that triggers getting the War Buddy Sphere off him)
Then you’ll have a 10% chance of seeing "Play the Besaid Aurochs" as a 2nd place prize.

For the Zanarkand Abes, you must have seen the "Tidus Sequence" and have selected the New Game Plus.
Then you’ll have a 10% chance of seeing "Play the Zanarkand Abes" as a 1st place prize.

I myself love blitzball and have only got the Besaid Aurochs unlocked.. I’ve already reached 100% but do not want to start another 5 chapters again… 😛

And if you want to know… I know who are in the Besaid Aurochs team… 😛 😛 😛

So you don’t have to do New Game Plus to get the Aurochs? I definitely saw Beclem’s shot, but I’m not sure about the commsphere thing……..I checked all the locations in Chapter 4 but don’t remember putting a commsphere on the beach in Chapter 3.

Not to worry though I’m on a New Game plus now anyway, on chapter 2 at the moment, so I’ll be sure to complete those tasks this time round.

Oh, and thanks, but I’d rather wait till I unlock the teams myself to know who’s in them. I’ve heard Beclem is in the Aurochs’ side, but I’m still completely baffled as to who the mystery eighth player could be. But not knowing is the fun part eh……….thanks for your help Paragon.

I meant that talking to Beclem via the commsphere at the village.. but you probally don’t need to do that.

and the 8th player.. You most probally know who he or she is.

The 8th Aurochs player is Vilucha, who was previously a free agent who wandered around Besaid.

and if you do manage the star player is a kind of good prize its the closest you get to playing as tidus.
