I’m an s-mod, I look at almost every thread. 🙁
And sadly, I am afraid there isn’t a real answer to your question, and I am afraid you know that all too well.

Let’s see. In FFVIII, I suppose they thought that it looked a bit odd that characters walked out of you at certain key points. It certainly makes things a bit more realistic. But of course, and that’s probably because the idea was dropped again, having three people trail after you looks a bit odd. 😛

Just another reason why FFVIII is different (and sucks) from the other Final Fantasies.

I liked the fact that you could see the other people in your party, actually. I would make them run in circles a lot for kicks.

I do that too!

Anyways, I don’t really know the answer, but I guess Square was trying something new. And yeah, it would seem weird at key points when characters walk out of you. But yeah.

Haha, I did that too.

Characters walking right into characters always creeped me out a bit.

Josh, you’re lucky that Merl didn’t just see what you said about his favorite ff. I have the feeling you’d miss out on the hot hot man luvin’ for a looooooong time.

If he likes that game he isn’t the man I thought he was ;_;.

I kinda like how they followed you around in FFVIII, although there is something to be said for both ways. I too had fun with the whole running in circles thing.

I should note that in FFX and X-2 also, which look quite realistic, they stuck with the whole only having one on screen format.
