What does Aeris symbolize?

I was reading up some interesting things on Final Fantasy VII today and I ran across a site and these guys were discussing and reviewing FFVII in depth and one of the guys mentioned how Aerith symbolized Jesus in the game. Now I’m just curious about how this works, I mean she does pray for Holy, she sacrifices herself to save the planet but thats about all I can figure out lol. Any ideas, comments?

I could understand if she represented Jesus in the game. Not only did she sacrafice herself but she taught cloud how to love by breaking open his heart. I read somewhere that Aeris is the first and the last character you see in the game. (Because it shows her face at the beginning and end) It said that the creater of final fantasy VII wanted it to look as if she was being reborn because her eyes were open in the beginning, closed int he middle, and open at the end.

If you ask me, Aeris symbolises Hope. She prayed for Holy, and gave the party the only hope to save the planet and stop Sephiroth and defeat Meteor.

It’s a simplification, but it’s the way I see it.

That is very true, now that I think about it you are right. She’s the first character you see in the game (Birth) she teaches Cloud like you mentioned and she also touches the rest of the FFVII characters. She dies and at the end she is symbolized as being Reborn, woah lol.

Jenova Birth
Jenova Life
Jenova Death
Jenova Absolute.

So I guess where Jenova is the planet’s bane, Aeris is the antithesis of it, thus the hope of the planet. The antidote for Jenova and its children. (Sephiroth and the sort.)

so youre saying that jenova is like the poison and aeris is the antidote, but why jenova and her? why not sephiroth as well? I like your theory.

Hm this is an interesting theory, I’m going to take some time and think about all this.

Well, Sephiroth is technically speaking part of Jenova. He had Jenova’s cells injected into him. Ergo he is part of Jenova. Therefore, he is included in the poison: He is doing what Jenova wishes for him to do; Which is to destroy the planet. Aeris offers the only hint of the antidote possible.

Then again, it is 2am and I could be talking rubbish…

Ha ha ha ha thats funny landy…….. Aeris reminds me of my star sign Aeris…lol….no i think Aeris dose symbolises Hope as Bahamut ZERO said…but thats wat i think..:)
