Yeah, I read about that in a list of references in the game. There’s a Star Trek reference too. One of the people in Lindblum will say "Dammit, Jim! I’m a doctor, not a miracle worker" if you ask them about the potion when you’re searching for the potions for Cid.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">Assuming you’ve seen episode 1, I don’t know how you could miss that reference. :p FF games do refer to a few other things in general actually, although FF9’s the worst because of that blatent rip-off from Star Wars. And yeah, I remember that Star Trek reference in Lindblum. And this one isn’t in FF9, but Biggs and Wegde, who appear in quite a few FF’s, are also characters from Star Wars.

Yeah, it’s been called "the referential Final Fantasy game" because it has so many different references, not just to other Final Fantasy games, but also the ones we mentioned and more. The FAQ I read is at GameFAQs. I’d link it, but GameFAQs doesn’t allow that. There’s one that keeps niggling at me: "Stock Break." The author the FAQ mentions that he’s pretty sure he’s seen it elsewhere before and I seem to remember it being in some other Final Fantasy game also, but I can’t remember for the life of me which.

Not only does it reference films and stuff (with what has already been discussed), but it references previous Final Fantasy games.

***SOME SPOILERS, I GUESS…***

Like in the Weapons Shop, when Zidane is looking at something that looks remarkably like the Buster Sword, he goes "I knew a spiky haired dude who used to use a sword like that" or words to that extent.

And when you’re somewhere else (sorry, my mind on the game is fuzzy) someone says "Neither Squall nor Cloud shall prevent me from doing this", a reference to Squall and Cloud. Again, I’m not sure if I got the exact quote right or not.

There’s probably others that I am not remembering as well.

It’s in the ending, when they’re doing the play. They don’t make it quite that obvious, instead the line is: "No cloud, no squall shall hinder us!" Marcus says it.

There’s a whole bunch of other stuff, like the four Chaoses and moves like Climhazzard and Shock. It’s all in that list I mentioned at GameFAQs.
