Hello, is that a bonus track at the end? JPop? Wow...major JPop... I'm assuming it's a bonus track cause it's not on the track list. [1st is blank for seperation, 2nd is a jpop song, 3rd is an instrumental version]

Uploader care to explain? :P

I'm not the uploader but it's definitely a bonus track and it is in the game, because I found a cutscene with it playing in the background. I think it could be the secret ending's music. Hmm...

You really don't know many western composers then, just because their names aren't being waved like a flag under blockbuster movies doesn't mean they don't exist.

Anyway, thanks lgqlgf for this upload :)

You misunderstand me. When I meant western, I was referring to the modern day. We just don't have music with the depth and sheer love of the craft in the West nowadays. We don't have a Williams, a Goldsmith or the like anymore. And yet the Japanese have music like this! It's horribly depressing. There are still remnants of real talent in the West - like Knut Avenstroup Haugen and Bear McCreary. But Haugen doesn't have a release quite as often as we'd like, and McCreary's music is starting to sound the same. With that said, I'm the most optimistic of the Big Orchestral thread - I still think we will see a return to form very soon. But it's still a pain to listen to orchestral music nowadays.

EDIT: And it would seem that I have misread your post! You are absolutely, 100% right when you say that there are ton of great western composers that aren't under the blockbuster stamp.

But, I have to ask - why the hell not? I mean, get someone with talent to write music for these big name movies! Let them have the budget and the means to write music that will be remembered for years, instead of weeks. People still talk about The Omen, Star Wars and Star Trek. I can't recall the last time someone talked favorably about Batman Begins. Heck, Kotaku did an article a couple of weeks ago how they said that Elfman's Batman and The Animated Series were the best music the Batman franchise ever had. And the commenters agreed near unanimously!

I mostly follow videogame composers, but... keep an eye on Darren Korb of Bastion soundtrack fame. The music to that game is glorious. I also personally like DM Ashura for his Bemani influence in his music. They're about the only western game music composers I'd listen to consistently...

Hey, I got a question... could those three extra bonus tracks be the theme songs that "Bump of Chicken" performs? I mean, one of them is a vocal song, another is an instrumental version, and the last one is just a 13 second blank song. I was just wondering, since someone here mentioned one of the songs are from the game.

Nope, those songs aren't by Bump of Chicken.
The Bump of Chicken songs are in my gamerip though if you're interested: Thread 97551 ( sorry for the advertising :P )
They're track 54, 56 and 57 there. A few of the best tracks in the game's soundtrack in my opinion, why they didn't include it in the OST is a mystery to me.

Appreciate the post, but I really have no idea what everyone is seeing in this. Not one note of this is memorable, just homogenous, droning alt rock and boilerplate Zimmerisms desperately clawing at a "heavy" sound only to come out completely flat. Been skimming almost every track and it's already out the other ear. Between this and the new Ace Combat, I fear Japan may be succumbing to Remote Control Syndrome at last. Had to happen sooner or later.

Course, I'm of the opinion Ishimoto is a fucking horrible composer and nearly everything he's ever done makes me wanna cut myself like a teenage girl, so take this with a grain o'salt. :p

You can say that about any of the tracks he worked on with Kentaro Sato. I cannot fathom the idea.

NaotaM
10-29-2011, 01:06 AM
Sato's arrangements are the sole half-decent thing about the OST, I'll grant you, but even those run together after awhile, whether due to an unfortunate natural consequence of having to constantly go back to that same dull theme or from the equally homogeneous nature of them when put side-by-side. Sato's orchestration is fine enough, but at times it seems Square was trying a bit too hard to replicate the synergy between Hamauzu and Hirano in XIII, except without the former's writing and the latter's flair and flavoring. Sato does admirably well bringing Ishimoto's tired drivel to life, but I'll be damned if I can recall any of it. And I just finished the last track a minute ago.

I know no one asked for it, but I thought I'd make it easier for everyone (and not have to make a new, pointless thread). I re-uploaded the soundtrack to MediaFire if anyone is interested in it. These files are the same ones you get here (excludes the three extra tracks), but these files are titled in Japanese, and there wasn't very much info in the tags, so I edited the tags, added a front display cover to every track (the original photo is also included with the download links), and re-titled everything in English, according to vgmdb (http://www.vgmdb.net). Sorry if it seems to be advertisement, but I found it pretty time-consuming to edit every single track. These files have not been converted, and also comes with the album scans you get from downloading the original files here in this thread. Again, sorry if anyone finds this post disturbing or offensive in any way. I'm just trying to make it easier for people to download the files and enjoy the music faster. Here's a link to the shared folder, which contains these files (plus three .zip files for each disc):

FINAL FANTASY Type-0 Original Soundtrack (MediaFire) (http://www.mediafire.com/?6yojwkxfq4y8z)

By the way, if anyone would like to download the three extra songs that are untitled and are a bit of mystery as to where they come from and what they're names are, but here's a link anyways:

I have a marginally better opinion of Ishimoto than NaotaM does, but nevertheless I agree. Knowing what Ishimoto himself sounds like, this is another case of the orchestral cues being 90% the work of the orchestrator. Sato is so good that you can almost forgive it... but not quite. I do not understand why they keep hiring substandard composers - and then hiring great composers to arrange their crappy work for the symphonic cues.

Sorry, but Bastion had nothing there that hadn't been done before, and much much better I might add. It wasn't bad, but neither was it good. It was just there, and for music that is damning.

Since i prefer the Japanese and Kanji tracklists, so didn't rename them in English.
Sorry to made you waste a lot of time to re-title.
But actually there are many easier ways to rename tracklists, don't need to do it one by one.
The most efficient way i think is using "freedb" funtion of Foobar2000 with VGMDB.
You may check HERE (http://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2618) for details.

To make things easier, you can just consult my setting pic.
()

Select that freedb server once you set up.
Then select the entire Disc's tracks. (Note: Not entire album, select entire Disc1, Disc2 or etc)
Choose "Get tags from freedb" from right-click options, you will know what to do next. :)

Ending suite Type-0 is one of my faves in VGM this year. Just stunning piece, with great orchestrations and fantastic choir. And very, very, very great melodies. But - except for melodies - it's all Sato. Guy is genius and he should write another FF score, not just orchestrate few pieces. It would be masterpiece, I'm sure of it. But, to be honest, I also like the whole score. Ishimoto style just speaks to me quite well (especially Crisis Core). His music is a bit flat, and maybe even boring at times (definitely to long tracks), but I like the mood and style that it presents. Good score with great moments.

I think this one is very notable in that it's not drowning in older Final Fantasy themes. So far, Ishimoto's end credits pieces have been little more than Uematsu medleys - but finally we get something original. I love the medleys but I always thought it was a waste of expensive orchestra to re-record pieces that have already been done a thousand times before...

I can't say I understand the criticisms of Ishimoto, at least not on this soundtrack. I've been listening to it for a while and I've been astonished how all the bombastic orchestral pieces and rockety rockers make themselves stand out. It's the very opposite of blending together, which you see with like a Motoi Sakuraba soundtrack when he's not on his best day.

The ominous choir singing ominous things track is one of the best I've heard out of Square since Liberi Fatali from Final Fantasy VIII and Destati from Kingdom Hearts. It works I think, because the underlying melody is strong, rather than a less talented composer throwing ominous voices at a wall of sound and thinking it will stick.

The soundtrack goes to some strange places and back again over its 3 discs and I think a lot of it works extremely well. I'm not very familiar with Ishimoto's work (I think he did Dissidia? What else, Crystal Bearers? Crisis Core? Final Fantasy IV Complete?) and I can say that whenever I saw his name in the past I was seldom impressed, but not when it comes to this which is pretty cool.

Of course the orchestration doesn't seem to take any advantage of the wide range of emotion and subtlety orchestration can evoke like those fantastic Orchestral Game Concerts of the 90s in Tokyo or Sugiyama soundtracks, but that's really rare in videogames anyway and especially for Final Fantasy, which never really has it in the series to dream of being as simple and subtle as Dragon Quest or as purely video game as Ys. It's in the middle somewhere and that's fine, because the middle produces some damn fine music.

By the way, if anyone would like to download the three extra songs that are untitled and are a bit of mystery as to where they come from and what they're names are, but here's a link anyways:

FINAL FANTASY Type-0 - Unknown Tracks (MediaFire) (http://www.mediafire.com/?dg3zog9s14b1c)

These files have not been edited at all, and are exactly the same as if you were to download them via the first page and extract them to your hard drive.

Thank you for re-uploading to mediafire =]

I came here just for this one magnificent chorus song!
It should be on Disk 1 track 2:
"We Have Arrived" (我ら来たれり, Warera Kitareri)

Thanks a lot!! What a superb song!
