Lorne Balfe & Hans Zimmer ~ Inception
a u d i o p h i l e e d i t i o n

The CD edition of Inception's soundtrack album sadly is clipped. The vinyl edition delivers a much better dynamic range. The same goes for the BluRay soundtrack selection in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio which is presented here. The end credits suite (titled "Inception" here) was also taken from the BluRay release and shares the same quality features.

The DTS-HD Master Audio content was also used for stereo versions.

The high-resolution content was also used for a version resampled to CDDA values. It incorporates the two tracks missing from the BluRay ("Half-Remembered Dream" and "Waiting for a Train") which were taken from the CD as well as the two bonus tracks "Projections" and "Don't Think About Elephants" (originally 320 kbps MP3). These four tracks were restored by WRG Records exclusively for this release.

Dunno about your hardware capabilities. :)
Depends on almost everything: your iPod, its firmware, your headphones, the use of a headphone amp
.... and last but not least your ears.

Nice. I was planning on uploading just the DTS-HD MA tracks in 5.1 (FLAC).
I started working on doing an edit of the opening logos and removing the ocean waves sfx.
Also working on getting the movie La Mome (La Vie En Rose, int. title) in DTS-HD MA as the very last scene has the Edith Piaf song, Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.
No sfx or anything. It's Edith Piaf with Marion Collitard lip-synching.
It's 5.1 as well, but not as dynamically surround sound as the End Credit version for the last minute and a half (before it breaks into the dream state).

for me too now ...

It's 192 kbps MP3 which is quite good but it sounds a little bit different to what you actually hear in the trailer (compare with 11-seconds snippet from my release).

If someone is unable to download the MP3 file I'd upload it ... unless of course Darkashram has a better source than Lorne's website.

edit: have listened to it, it's truly better than regular mp3's. But then again, Zimmer makes so much music with enormous dynamics, that usually need to have lossless files...otherwise you'll hear the music distort ...

As a Hi-Fi only guy, I downloaded the 16-Bit version.

Well, for that kind of music I must say the dynamic of the vinyl transfer - despite its distortion and its inferior stereo separation - still makes it the definitive version for me.

However your work on this is the best I've seen around and the bonus tracks are welcome (not speaking about trailers music wich are for me strangers to this and are to get outside). 70min of this is long enough for such music for me besides. I greatly appreciate the End Credits wich I didn't know yet. Your version is the one I'll chose for headphone listening experience. Very agreable. Great work, thanks !

If I get the chance one day (time), I'll try to synchronize the vinyl transfer with your 24-Bit version for a special remixing. ;-)

I kept the 11-seconds snippet from the same trailer because it sounds different ...

as Citizen Erased described, you may do so for yourself. I don't have the lossy source files of the Blu-Ray trailer material anymore (was 48 kHz btw) but you can always download Lorne Balfe's trailer music (is 48 kHz as well iirc) at his site (http://www.lornebalfe.com/listen/trailers/) using VideoDownloadHelper or somethin in the way.

Woah! Why haven't i downloaded this yet? Thank you!

A couple things, though:
I found it hard to understand just which songs came from which sources from your description. I figured it out in the end, but you might want to clarify it a bit for others (or even just put a tracklist with the source for each song listed next to it).
And could we maybe get those 5.1 DTS-HD streams? (Pretty please) :D

i don't have the blu-ray so you have to extract for yourself. my source files are all gone now ...

- The bold tracks are from the Blu-Ray DTS-HD MA source
- the other standard album tracks (1, 10) are from the CD album
- the bonus tracks (13, 14) are the ones from the Warner website
- Mind Heist is from the composer (FLAC, HDCD decoded)
- the other trailer tracks come from 192 kbps/48kHz MP3 sources (blu-ray and lorne balfe's website)

According to his website, Balfe only composed "Kick it", "528491" and " Fischer Adagio" (yeah, plus that trailer track).

I would always credit main composer(s) first...

I actually downloaded the vinyl rip last night and even though it is better than cd, sinus AE is far easier to listen to. The highs in the regular vinyl rip are still a bit too bright for my tasting plus deep punchy bass....not a good mixture. The AE clearly balances everything out

Just re-uploaded the bunch. The last time I got rid of the multi-channel material after making the stereo versions. This time I started from scratch, re-edited it all back together anew and uploaded the 5.1 version, too.
The stereo version was now made with refined downmix parameters, so it sounds even more clear and less boomy.

The one drawback about my audiophile CDDA edition has always been the sonic difference between the music stemming from hi-res material and the four tracks from CD or MP3 ...

Until now! SonicAdventure has been so kind to masterly restore these four tracks for us and adjust them to my release! :)

The stereo version was now made with refined downmix parameters, so it sounds even more clear and less boomy.

Just wanted to remind that artwork of genius. hehe.

Haven't had the chance to listen to your new version mate. ;-) (neither to DL it).

The Skyfall soundtrack CD has been clipped also, whereas the 2-CD FYC edition hasn't.

Hi, could someone show me how to download, I don't see any links, don't get mad at me, I know it's a newbie question, please bear with me.

You have to send a PM (Private Message) to the original uploader by clicking on the link labelled "get in touch" in the first post of the thread (towards the bottom of the post).

You are not currently enabled to send PM's. You need to have a post count of at least 2 (which you have), but this is followed by a time-delay wait of up to an hour.

samplethief, you need more than 5 posts to enable your pm ability. After you reach that there is a short delay for the system to reset. Please note that if you make consecutive posts in the same thread, the system automatically combines them and they only count as one. Hang out, say hi a few times and you'll be good to go.

I'd just leave it. These types of "discussions" never lead anywhere productive, and you got the info you needed either way.

Thanks for the upload.

And regarding the Balfe and Zimmer "who wrote what" discussion:

Balfe works for Zimmer in his "Remote Control Production" company. From what I've read and seen Zimmer's got like 10 different composers at a time working on different projects.
Just visit wikipedia for a nice list of composers who have worked there: Remote Control Productions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Control_Productions)

I suppose from interviews and videos I've seen and read, Zimmer does the writing himself and depending on the project, his mood or whatever will delegate arranging, clean up work, basically the kind of afterwork there usually is to do, to his "henchmen" so to speak.

So if something states that it's written by Zimmer, it probably is. You'd have to look closer in the additional credits to see who did what exactly.

Lorne Balfe & Hans Zimmer ~ Inception
a u d i o p h i l e e d i t i o n

16 bit/44.1 kHz edition

The high-resolution content was also used for a version resampled to CDDA values. It incorporates the two tracks missing from the BluRay ("Half-Remembered Dream" and "Waiting for a Train") which were taken from the CD as well as the two bonus tracks "Projections" and "Don't Think About Elephants" (originally 320 kbps MP3). These four tracks were restored by WRG Records exclusively for this release.

01 1:12 Half Remembered Dream
02 1:56 We Built Our Own World
03 2:23 Dream Is Collapsing
04 3:43 Radical Notion
05 7:44 Old Souls
06 2:24 528491
07 4:54 Mombasa
08 2:28 One Simple Idea
09 5:04 Dream Within a Dream
10 9:31 Waiting for a Train
11 3:26 Paradox
12 4:37 Time
13 7:04 Projections
14 5:36 Don't Think About Elephants
15 7:07 Inception

Hans Zimmer ~ Inception
audiophile edition by WRG Records

Can someone clear this up for me, because the wording there implies that this (I've been lead to believe) custom album was created with Vinyl and Bluray sources, but then states that two of the four missing tracks were taken from the CD (the clipped album that necessitated making this new edition) and uses the 2 bonus tracks, which as far as I know have only been available as mp3s. Then it states that the 4 tracks were "restored" by WRG Records? What are the actual details behind these 4 tracks? Are the bonus tracks just transcoded mp3s and the other 2 tracks from the CD release? Or are the 4 tracks from a different source?

Eisengeist
08-13-2013, 07:43 AM
No vinyl was used.

The sources of the 4 said tracks are the ones you assume. Both the MP3s and the CD tracks were treated by SonicAdventure. I don't know exactly, how, but he did it. :) I just presume expansion and equalization and resampling and what-not. Note that he actually adjusted the four tracks to my release's overall sound. So the ones in his edition sound slightly different.

They're all good in their own ways.

The retail OST is good for having the licensed Edith Piaf tracks.
This one is good because it's blu-ray HD audio quality. Also 5.1, if you get the 5.1 mix.
The comlete one out there is great for all the other music, even if it is lossy.

I have all 3 versions, and keep 2 of them on my mp3 player.
