Well, the title says it all. It did not make much sense adding this Vangelis related music to the Blade Runner related threads. Even if I hate having to check different threads every time I log into FFS, I have to reckon that this is the best way to avoid confusion and having it all in the same section. Here you can post the music that never made it to official release or the one that is long out-of-print if you wish. Feel free to contribute as you might see fit! :)

Limited to 2000 hand-numbered copies. Booklet contains extensive liner notes and photos from the production.

Unfortunaly we might never live to catch a glimpse of it since full scans were never shared :(
Oh, you might stumble on it on the occasional for-deep-pockets-only auctions on eBay... if you are a nice collector please let us know! ;)

Comments :

This is one of the first alternate recordings avalible on the CD format, limited to only 2000 copies, and thankfully a factory pressed disc by DISCTRONICS USA, as stated in the CD matrix (located around the spindle hole of the disc) **WTG01**/121628-R2-3343-2. This recording, issued by OFF WORLD MUSIC/OWM-9301, pretty much has all but two cues; "ogi no mato" by Ensemble Nipponia and Morning at the Bradbury. The sound quality, well I would go for the 1994 Warner Brothers' commercial release for that, remember we're dealing with "Alternate Recordings" here and they should be treated as such. All an all, I rate the packaging and sound of this CD = 7 out of 10.

Notes :

"New CD music soundtrack by the BLADE RUNNER electronic music composer VANGELIS. It labels Storm records on limited edition. The music Vangelis created for the‚ less known film CAVAFY in 1996 (which is depicting the life of the most famous Greek poet of modern times‚ Constantine Cavafy) was never released on any CD until now. One hour of breathtaking music - an excellent mixture between the dark Blade Runner sound and ancient Byzantine-oriental flavor. An extraordinary magical soundtrack! Excellent true and clean stereo sound quality."

Storm Records is a pirate label [presumably] from Ukraine or Russia .

N.B. It appears that every original that we were able to check has some missing frames filled with a tiny bit of digital silence at the beginning of tracks 6, 10 and 15. We believe these "edits" are part of the original master. It could easily be fixed providing an audio rip of the ac3 channels of the dvd release.
I do not own the movie, but I might be able to fix that if anyone is willing to help. :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comments :

"There is a little-known Greek film called "Cavafy" or "Kavafis", released in 1996 by Alexandros Film, directed by Iannis Smaragdis, about the life and visions of the famous Greek poet, Constantine P. Cavafy (Konstantinos Petro Kavafis). The film was scored by Vangelis ("Chariots of Fire", "1492") and is the last film that he has scored."

04/15/2004 - Uncle Don

http://vangeliscollector.com/

"I have never seen the film "Cavafy" but I'm certain‚ like in Blade Runner‚ that Vangelis' score exerts the same impact over the atmosphere of the movie. In general‚ the sound of this score is very reminiscent of "El Greco‚" since there are many byzantine and eastern themes throughout. The mood is somber‚ brooding‚ and at times‚ dramatic. However‚ some themes such as "The Bosforus Theme" and "Family grief" are very melodic and delicate and sound very much like themes found "Bitter Moon." The production value of this release is wonderful. The tracks flow into each other beautifully and the sound quality is just excellent. However‚ the only drawback to the release‚ is the considerable amount of Cavafy's poetry recited in Greek throughout the disc. Nevertheless‚ this score has moments of brilliance and is really an essential item for any Vangelis collector."

Sebastian *****

"I think Vangelis faced this score as a very special project. I can guess the loving he put on it listening to some of its passages. For instance‚ I must say that the first 5 tracks are all wonderful. The first seems to be taken from "El Greco"‚ while the Viennese Waltz seems... well‚ a Viennese Waltz. The score gets a little tedious in the middle‚ specially in the longer tracks‚ where music is dark and there are no big melodies... But the second half of "Charikleia's Death"‚ (A melody that reminds me a lot to Shubert's "Ave Maria") is wonderful. And the end titles.... Well‚ the end Titles is one of the most beautiful tunes I've heard from this man in his entire career... It brings chills to my spine every time I listen to it‚ and I've add it to my personal favourites. What a masterpiece! The production is great: The themes are nicely linked and the sound quality is superb... Yes‚ I know there's a Greek guy speaking all the way‚ but when the music is that great‚ who cares? A must."

1-13 Bitter Moon Suite (42:03)

14-20 Blade Runner Suite (26:19)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comments :

"Bitter Moon is a beautiful score‚ and most of the music can be listened to perfectly without the images and enjoyed completely. Some of the themes are really beautiful. For example‚ the main theme‚ repeated with variations through parts 1‚ 4 and 10‚ the accordion theme you can hear on part 3 (That somehow makes me think of Paris) and the romantic and inspired part 13 (End credits?). Some of the music‚ however‚ sounds more incidental‚ but stands very well on its own too. Part 12 starts with an dance-arab-like song and then continues with a techno rhythm pattern (Is that really Vangelis?). There's also a jazz song on part 2 (I'll ask again: Vangelis?) [No. That's Fever by Peggy Lee, at least the first part of the song] and some jazzy and dark passages. Since I haven't seen the movie I don't know if the music is well ordered or not. Sound FX from the movie can be heard alltrough the suite‚ and sometines become annoying. Even sometimes the FX andthe music grow suddenly giving you a start. Despite this little defects‚ sound quality is very good and the music in quite enjoyable.

The Blade Runner suite could be interesting in its moment but now‚ with all that Blade Runner releases out there has become a bit obsolete‚ but harmless anyway."

Comments :

"This television interview/special showed us some truly marvelous Vangelis pieces. All of the L'Arbre de Vie parts (tracks 1‚ 6‚ 9‚ 10) are beautiful‚ namely Part II (track 6). Again‚ there is a considerable amount of dialog in French contained in the disc‚ but it's independent of the music and it gives the listener good insight to Vangelis‚ since he is the one speaking most of the time. Some themes from "La Fete Sauvage" appear here‚ (but not in the same quality as in the OWM La Fete Sauvage) as well as themes from Opera Sauvage. While this is not a proper album per se‚ there are quite a few wonderful pieces and is well worth owning."

Sebastian ****

"The bad news about this release is that if you take away the tracks 4‚ 7‚ 11‚ 13‚ 16‚ 19‚ 21 wich are French dialog‚ and 2‚ 3‚ 8‚ 17 which are excerpts from "Opera Sauvage"‚ "L'Apocalypse des Animaux" and "La Fete Savage"‚ you'll arrive to the conclusion that only little more than the half of this release is unreleased material. Still more‚ all the music is recorded on Mono. OK‚ here is the good news: All the older selections are wisely chosen‚ all are among my Vangelis favourites. More over‚ I guess the dialogs are quite interesting‚ but I don't speak French‚ so I hope somebody could correct me if it's not so.

And regarding the new music‚ it's very beautiful. It mainly consists in gentle electric piano improvisations‚ in the typical Vangelis "wildlifestyle"‚ that paint very evoccative and haunting landscapes. Really‚ from the short and catchy "Part I" to the beautiful "Grece"‚ all the music is great. Also thrown in the middle there are some percussion improvisations. And in the end you get the best theme for my taste: Can you imagine "Spiral" adapted to fit "Opera Sauvage"? Listen to "Part 5" and you'll see. It's simply wonderful.

The last two themes don't fit with rest‚ since they are two boombastic improvisations taped 12 years later for the AT1 Greek Channel (See the elsewhere site for more information). In conclusion‚ a very beautiful release. Try to get it!"

As DC pointed out before uploading the 'Cavafy' soundtrack: this lossless version really isn't worth downloading! Not only some frames are missing, but also all the gaps have been left out. (That's what you get when you use the wrong EAC settings!) And even the 'hidden' bonus track is completely missing.
So, for those who might be interested, here's a 'complete' version of the soundtrack that I downloaded a couple of years ago. No missing frames, complete songs, correct durations and HQ covers. Only... not lossless, and the beginnings of some tracks are in the tails of the previous ones!

Mmmhhhmmm... I think I know what happened... someone ripped the original cd as separate tracks... but with the wrong EAC settings (and leaving out the gaps) since the version I posted has no gaps at all as you might have noticed and the only difference with the version posted by dvran is only the silence of the gaps in between songs... which will total the right time duration of 57 minutes as in dvran mp3 version.

Then someone has burned the songs without pause in between tracks and shared the result as cdimage. That is where I had the source for the one I posted... as almost everyone around the net since 2007 I am guessing.

Mathemathic of chaos is what you get error after error until someone put it right. The actual content is still intact and almost complete (to reassure dvran!) but with the silence in between tracks informations gone forever.

So we would only need to add the silence gap and work out that in the cuesheet... that's the trickier part unless you use a professional software like cdarchitect... which I will at this point... plus the added frames from the encoder will have to be restored to the original frame count without the LAME additions....

If you compare the resulting mp3 from the version I posted you will notice that only 3 songs (plus 2 which had no gap or needed none as the last track) retain the same lenght... which are the one that have the gaps due to the bad editing of the master in both versions... so the issue presented in this version remain the same as the one in the original... though it might be easily bypassed.

About the bonus track... well... I really cannot tell since a limited 50 copies pressing is not going to be pressed professionally as in the version pressed in Romania... and replication plants do not press less than 500 copies at time even if it is technically possible, having the right connections (major label managers to say the least), to have the job done for less than 500... no way that would have happened in 2000... all the limited edition boots were mostly cdr's...

But only Storm Records can tell us if a bonus track was ever meant to be on the original master... and strangely that is not listed on the vangelis-rareties site...

Strange... really strange... do expect a fixed version for dvran's birthday or whatever... at least that will be for him to have spotted the trick until the real deal will come throught! ;)

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction (or something very close to it in our opinion)! :)

Comments from Vangelis-rarities :

"Anyone who has seen "The Boutny" will notice that Vangelis' score adds an enormous dimention to the film. Vangelis' decision to to give this 18th century period piece a synthesizer score was both non-conventional and bold. The result is a magnificent double CD which is rich with moments of tension‚ emotion and adventure. Most notable on the discs are "Opening Titles"‚ "First Day at Sea" and the epic and spine-tingling "Saga of H.M.S Bounty."
One of the things this release might suffer from is too much information. The two discs contain nearly two hours of music. That being said‚ besides Vangelis' original music the release includes traditional English sailor fiddle tunes as well as Tahitian chants and percussion. Lastly‚ the sound in many parts of the release is very poor‚ but nonetheless‚ tolerable. Despite these distractions or drawbacks‚ the music of this score is truly epic and an essential part of any serious Vangelis collector's repertoir."

Sebastian
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I must say that I felt quite disappointed when I first heard this release... Why? Because it's horribly boring. I know that maybe this won't be a popular opinion‚ but being honest‚ I feel that themes like "Cape Horn"‚ "Deserters" or "Cast Adrift" are overlong. Special mention deserves "Alternate Titles"‚ no less than eleven minutes of the same cue again and again and again... Still more‚ I must say that the native's dances are superfluous‚ and the Irish sailor numbers aren't even specially well performed.. In the other hand‚ the melancholic numbers really shine‚ like "23rd December 1787"‚ "First Day at Sea" or "A Last Night Together". Also the main titles‚ but you can hear a much cleaner verson in "Themes". So‚ I think that this would be much better in an editted way‚ much shorter‚ with the suite (Great‚ by the way) in one side (Yes‚ I'm still thinking of vinyl) and the better themes in the other. This double album is great as an archive of music‚ but it's quite hard to listen to."

Could someone tell me the track listing of this private release please? Thank you!

Hi have Alexander Storm (2 cd's) and Alexander complete score (2cd's)

Do you OWN both releases???

The track listing of the Storm release can be found here: www.vangelis-rarities.com - Alexander - Bootleg - Storm Records (http://www.anunna.net/vangelis-rarities/newsite.php?methode=methode1&id=166)
But could you tell me the track listing of your 2CD 'Complete Score' then? Thank you!

Vangelis - Cavafy [Storm Records] *PROPER*

Ooopppsss! That was supposed to be released for dvran's birthday! So today is the day!

Happy birthday then! :)

So we would only need to add the silence gap and work out that in the cuesheet... that's the trickier part unless you use a professional software like cdarchitect... which I will at this point... plus the added frames from the encoder will have to be restored to the original frame count without the LAME additions....

That is the proper version according to dvran's post of the version in lossy format.

Thanks very much to Zyzz for taking the time to fix it! ;)

Again... we cannot be sure if the original had a bonus track or not... but I am pretty sure that the cd at some point just did not have a bonus track.
Perhaps one day we will find out... Until then, this is the best alternative around. Period.

Vangelis - Antarctica (Arkhan Records) *PROPER*

If I am not mistaken this should be the proper fix of what the Arkhan version had ruined in editing out of the OWM version.
This version has the tail restored as they should plus it retains the original loudness curve of the original master.

Thanks very much! :) You saved me some work it seems! Thanks mate! ;)

Could someone tell me the track listing of this private release please? Thank you!

The Alexander versions you are after were shared some years ago on Yahoo... then they disappeared with the people that burned it on cd. I'm afraid we are more than a little late for those...

Alexander - Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Promo - Warner Bros. Records (http://www.anunna.net/vangelis-rarities/newsite.php?methode=methode1&id=161)

Alexander - Bootleg - Storm Records (http://www.anunna.net/vangelis-rarities/newsite.php?methode=methode1&id=166)

I know about 4 or 5 different versions (not counting the official release with or without bonus track)... it would be nice compiling a master release out of those... but we practically lack the sources...

Hi have Alexander Storm (2 cd's) and Alexander complete score (2cd's)

Comments :

"Vangelis has been hesitant to release unedited or full versions of his scores (or not at all) believing that the music should be heard in the context of the images of the film. While I disagree with him in most cases‚ "De Nuremberg a Nuremberg" is a case in which I would heartily concur. The music on this release is bombastic‚ ominous and dramatic with loads of thundering tympanies. While I believe that this music is very fitting for a World War II documentary‚ it is nonetheless irritating to listen to out of context. The only worthwhile track on the album is that jazzy and melancholy "Hitler in Paris" which sounds like it has been taken from a vinyl record. This is my least favourite of the OWM collection."

One of Frederic Rossif's last documentaries (from 1988), this is also one of the most difficult documentaries to watch. It also has one of the most difficult endings. Rossif is able to bring out a sense of national shame that is overwhelming. Just like the subject matter, Vangelis' score is extremely powerful and bombastic in sections. It would be difficult to release a soundtrack to it, although I think it would be quite interesting. Plus, Vangelis relies on percussion as much as synthesizers, which he does not seem to do anymore. This title also has the distinction of being the only Rossif/Vangelis collaboration on DVD (laserdisc too, for that matter).

Uncle Don

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notes :

While it is very unlikely that the edited loops here presented are the actual arrangements of the tracks vangelis composed for the documentary in 1988, there is still a taste of the music he wrote for it, even if in altered form. When watching the documentary I had the impression that the titles did not respect the images associated to the actual cues as heard in the documentary. Titles as reported on the back cover might be not that right. To make the matter even more complicated there is a tracklist that does not match the number of tracks on the cd. Being that the situation we cannot be sure of which song is which. Perhaps one day Vangelis will release the actual music used in the documentary... but here you have it for today... most likely forgotten it by tomorrow. Only for the completist out there if they please.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Afterword :

A few words need to be added before going lossless. We would like to remind that you should not make profit off what it is not your own. The reason to be of this release is for a better archival purpose only. Be responsible in giving back what you had for free. Consider sharing back what was shared of old if you care. We are only left with what we share eventually. The more accurately (read properly) the better for the peers-to-be. Needless to remind to decompress to WAV first (preferred). Burn at 4x speed (always) with no pause between tracks.

Greetings from Armamar! Muito obrigado!

Comments :

A beautifully-made film, and Vangelis' last score, this 1998 video cannot find an international distributor! Isn't that odd? I wonder if it has to do with the subject matter? I simply cannot understand, but at least the film was released in Greece. The music is absolutely wonderful, and is a driving force in this film with little dialogue. The film has been dedicated to Vangelis. The videocassette is not cheap to get, as it was supposed to have a wider release in Greece, but appears to only have remained available by rental. Luckily, there are DVDs available but not easy to find. There is a very rare deluxe Box Set that was released in 2004 but was not available for general sale to the public. This was a lead-in to the release in 2005 of a DVD for sale to the public in Greece. If you search hard enough, you can find sites on the internet in Greece that have it for sale. Many of these shops will ship to any destination.

That is exactly what we are looking for: the Off-World version if you still have it floating someplace! :)

The Antarctica (Off World Version) has longer edits compared to the Antarctica (Arkhan Records).
I only have a really bad mp3 encode of the Off World version and the moment we will be doing the same restoration work on the Antarctica soundtrack it might be better working on better sources.

It seems that some good people wanted to throw a party for my birthday. To be sure it was the wrong date, but I'll join in anyway. This is my very late (or very early) 'birthday present' for all Vangelis fan ffshriners of good will.

EAC rip from a genuine Storm Records CD that I could get hold of recently. Sixteen tracks, APE extra high compression, EAC log and 3% recovery included.
No covers, because most of you will already have them. They were included in my earlier lossy upload, as well as in zyzz's 'PROPER' version.

This is really meant to be a present for ffshriners only, and that's why I'm asking not to post or mirror this on other sites, blogs or forums. These links will only be valid for a limited time. Ample time for regular visitors to download the files though!

A highly contagious disease has turned a city into living hell. Each day more people are dying, and the city is sealed, its citizens prisoners until the plague has run its course.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comments :

"The Plague" like so many other Vangelis scores‚ was not released officially‚ so this release cannot rely on it's official counterpart to "fill in the cracks" as is the case with so many other OWM releases‚ namely Antarctica‚ 1492 and Chariots of Fire. The mood is somber here‚ with moments of dark melancholy accentuated by a boy's frequent chorale singing. There are many moments of OWM looping and chorus riddled tracks throughout‚ but all in all‚ the production of this cd is a noble attempt to extract viable music from the movie soundtrack. Aside from the beautiful main choral theme from the movie‚ the most haunting and moving track on the disc is number 12‚ titled "The Breath."

This film provided quiet a mystery for a long time. It took a while to even confirm that Vangelis did the score for this 1992 film! His name was removed from the credits for reasons unknown. Only the Japanese video lists his name on the sleeve. The film has grown on me, and I especially like the interaction between the doctor and the priest...they should have done the entire movie based on that relationship. Anyways, it seems like every country that released this video used different edits, and the sound quality is not good on most copies. There is now a DVD from Hong Kong which provides the best audio, even though the music played over the end credits gets cut off prematurely, as for some unexplicable reason, the producers of this Hong Kong DVD just stop showing credits halfway through. I would hope that maybe a French company will release this title on DVD.

Notes :

Why we should always give our thanks to the usual suspects is beyond my reach. Again we all would hope this may be released properly by Vangelis himself and not by another Off World Music label one day... Which day is still to be seen I'm afraid...

Once again... Greetings from Armamar! Muito obrigado!

DC,

Thank you for the very public message of thanks! :)
However, the public message of thanks should really go to you and all the other guys on the BR thread who have done such a wonderful job with the various BR versions and posted them for everyone to share FOR FREE!
You could have profited but didn't: I admire your generosity.

Ok, now I'm looking forward to Themes III !
After which I'll have to return the favour yet again...;)

It's me to thank you for taking the time to do that for us all.

I will be also adding the Mmoires Vol 1 and the Picasso releases! ;)
The Picasso release being somehow reminiscent of the 1982 compositions I was told...

Hopefully I will be able to do that in the next weeks! :)

Hi Zoran

Do you know what is the difference between 1492 complete and expanded?

Hi Zoran

Do you know what is the difference between 1492 complete and expanded?

Oddly enough the expanded version is more "complete"...here is a comparison.

Vangelis-1492 - The Complete Score-Andromeda Music-2002 (http://www.anunna.net/vangelis-rarities/newsite.php?methode=methode1&id=4)

... the former on Zoran's post. You can still find that on eMule in lossless, courtesy of cheefroberts.
Currently on the to-be-posted list. ;)

Vangelis-1492 - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack-Off World Music-1999 (http://www.anunna.net/vangelis-rarities/newsite.php?methode=methode1&id=1)

... the latter on Zoran's post. Clever use of looping to list more tracks than needed... but I second Zoran on that. :)

Pendor kindly pointed out that the correct title on those should be "Pinta, Nia, Santa Mara"...

Zoran, DC

Thanks for the info.
Reading the reviews, it would appear that the Andromeda version is the better of the two. So I'll just sit at the PC quietly waiting for the upload, maybe pressing refresh every now and then... ;)

PS. I agree with Pendor, but typing foreign (sorry, non-English!) characters on an English keyboard ain't easy!!

Notes :

A mix of released and many unreleased tracks of excellent sound quality, some of the movie tracks are different mixes from other releases with no dialogue present. These are not CDr's but factory pressed CD's: CD1 Platinum, subtitled Inner Data-Bitter Moon, a typical silver CD (P+O666827-A 1004). CD2 Gold, subtitled El Greco-Sex Power is gold (BOD SIEG 95001 IFPI L357). The discs are made at different German factories, the subtitles imply the Artist and album Title as being different from the actual artist, a typical way to manufacture unofficial albums since vinyl days. Artwork is also commercially printed.

Your CD recorder must support the overburning feature and this type of media. Most current recording software allows overburning. The overburning length depends on the media brand. You should get at least the official capacity plus the 90 seconds for the leadout. DVD-Audio or a triple cd set are the safest options otherwise.

Greetings to Armamar! Muito obrigado!

While peeping at my friend's Vangelis backup I came across the same version as posted by zyzz but with some tiny extra bits added. The archive is including the 2 bonus tracks on the OWM2000 version that ended up to be added on the FIC release to this 24 tracks promotional cd of the music Vangelis composed for the soundtrack of Missing in late 1981.

The FLAC's appears to be exactly the same but his version had the .log and .cue files along with some alternate covers as well. I added an extra .cue of the cd I inserted in the cd tray since the CDDB database just gave different track names (mostly according to the FIC release I believe) for the alternative versions of the last tracks.

Here's something a bit different...

In 1975, Vangelis composed the score for a Mexican film called No Oyes Ladrar los Perros? (in French, Entends-tu les chiens aboyer ?). This was released as the album Ignacio.

Having previously worked with director Frdric Rossif on L'Apocalypse des animaux (1973), Vangelis scored his nature documentary La Fte sauvage in 1976. An album of the same name followed. (They would go on to collaborate on Opra sauvage (1979) and Sauvage et Beau (1984).)

Here's where the fun begins. When the respective LP's were released, the B-sides of each contained pieces of the other score. When they were mastered for CD, the LP's were either combined into a single giant track, or were split into two tracks representing each LP side, but in both cases, the original mistakes were preserved.

Ignacio was A) Entends, Part 1, and B) La Fte sauvage, Part 2.
La Fte sauvage was A) La Fte sauvage, Part 1, and B) Entends, Part 2.

This error persisted across every release I've heard, through the late-'90's.

If anyone's interested, I've made corrected FLAC versions of each score, with embedded cover art from the CAM releases (for no other reason than I liked the covers).

If anyone runs across a lossless version of Sauvage et Beau, please post. I've heard mp3's and it's just great.

The main theme appeared on the 1996 Portraits compilation, and I've seen art for Sauvage et Beau with the same woman-shielding-her-eyes art that was used for the cover of Portraits. My guess is that there was a single release for Sauvage et Beau when Portraits was released, and someone slapped it on the mp3's for a promo of the Sauvage et Beau documentary score.

This is an interesting compilation that contains music of Georges Braque suite and De Nuremberg a Nuremberg DVD source. This bootleg is interesting in terms of that it contains music that's not in OWM version and the quality is better with no dialogue and tedious looping. Oh and then there are fragments of Suntory Sound Mraket 1984 interview for which I would like to ask whether it has some the whole.

"Foros Timis Ston Greco" is the transliterated greek title for this album. "A Tribute to El Greco" is the title translated.
Each track is referred to as "Meros" ("Movement").
This was sold exclusively at the National Art Gallery in Athens, Greece, and is only obtainable through private collections. The digipak CD and a 127-page Greek text, which features artwork by El Greco, comes in a blue clothbound foldout box.
This special edition of the album is limited to only 3000 copies signed by Vangelis.
Mind that the signature is not really an original written signature but its placed on the disc by the use of a stamp!

"It does not seem that long ago that Caball was busy going around, giving interviews about the upcoming Caball/Vangelis album. I wonder what ever became of it? Besides her contribution to Vangelis' "El Greco" project, Vangelis tracks appeared on two of her albums during the 90's. Vangelis used to participate with many artists in side projects, but this work diminshed somewhat during the past decade, or at least, what the public has been able to obtain. These tracks with Caball have not been easy for US fans to obtain, as neither of the albums were released in the US."

"The first album was Friends for Life (1997), in which Vangelis contributed two tracks, "March With Me" and "Like A Dream". "March With Me" was released as a CD single in Germany and in Spain (in two versions). The second album was With All My Heart (1998) which included the Vangelis contribution "The Prayer". This CD was released with two other titles: Von Ganzem Herzen (Germany) and Con Todo Mi Corazon (Spain). Maybe 2002 will bring the fabled full-length Caball/Vangelis album!"

Vangelis - La Fte Sauvage (CD, Album) at Discogs (http://www.discogs.com/Vangelis-La-F%C3%AAte-Sauvage/release/2585759)

1 Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer? (Part 2) 18:21
2 La Fte Sauvage (Part 2) 20:25

This is a mispress. While the sleeve and disc state "La Fete Sauvage" Parts 1 and 2, the disc plays Part 2 of "Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?" on track 1. The corresponding CAM release of Etends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer is likewise wrong, and has Part 1 of "La Fte Sauvage" as track 2.

Track 2 is Part 2 of La Fte Sauvage, as stated on disc and cover.

Vangelis - Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer? (CD, Album) at Discogs (http://www.discogs.com/Vangelis-Entends-Tu-Les-Chiens-Aboyer/release/2585776)

1 Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer? (Part 1) 21:21
2 La Fte Sauvage (Part 1) 18:10

Mispressing with Part 1 of "La Fte Sauvage" as track 2 instead of Part 2 of "Etends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?" as stated on sleeve and disc. The corresponding CAM release of La Fte Sauvage has Part 2 of "Etends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?" as track 1.

This is how it should be according to Discogs:

1 Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer? (Part 1) 21:21
1 Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer? (Part 2) 18:21

2 La Fte Sauvage (Part 1) 18:10
2 La Fte Sauvage (Part 2) 20:25

... and also according to Vangelis Collector - Music - Vangelis - Entends-tu les Chiens Aboyer?/Ignacio (http://vangeliscollector.com/vangelis_entends.htm)

This is how you put it:

Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?\02__ Part 1 21.27
Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?\02__ Part 2 20.23

La Fte Sauvage\01__ Part 1 18.12
La Fte Sauvage\02__ Part 2 18.26

Am I missing something or the order of the tracks are confused also on your upload?

Let us know! ;)

whoop
11-17-2011, 03:07 AM
My upload is simply based on something that I was told many years ago by someone far more familiar with Vangelis' work than myself -- that the two albums in question wound up with swapped B-sides. I can't comment on whether or not that's actually true, but my memory is that I heard this before the CAM CD was released.

All I did was to take both albums -- which were single track FLAC's -- and cut them in two at the halfway point, then reassemble them based on what I'd been told. I wouldn't necessarily judge what I did based on the track times.

It's certainly possible that my info wasn't correct, in which case all I did was recreate a botched pressing -- but the tracks seem to flow better when arranged like that, so... ;) :D

dadadacicici
11-17-2011, 11:07 AM
I see... So you did use the tracks on the actual CAM release which were already mispressed?

That being the case I would like to triple-check any rip of the CAM releases, lossless or lossy... or listening to the actual movie...

Could you go back to your original cam releases and using programs like Medieval cue splitter re-checking that please?
The time durations do not match even if the music flows nicely. :)
The proper order should be the one listed on Discogs I believe... but I do not have any rip of the CAM releases so I cannot tell... if you still have the original rips that will be terrific! ;)

whoop
11-19-2011, 11:14 PM
I don't have access to my CD's so I didn't rip either of these myself. Was lucky enough to find FLAC's online, but not all of them had cue files, which isn't that much help to answer the questions you're asking. (And if the included art actually corresponds to the ripped discs, then none of them were from the CAM releases.)

I'll post all the different versions I have and perhaps you can make some sense of it...

I was somehow expecting something less clear when the maker wrote "listenable" but I am really happy with the surprise. Pretty complete too. The more complete will be the man himself licensing his music for a more archival oriented release... which will never happen considering the approach used for Blade Runner matter of fact... so I am the most grateful for his efforts.
Some of the songs are the traditional irish music heard in the movie which makes a nice interlude in between the Vangelis cues... I like that approach.
Everything seem to be right there including the percussion pieces.
If you already have it you should also get this version.
It also includes the front cover now! Not to mention a nice tagged back up for your mp3 players!
I'm afraid I have no(t that much) idea on how to use photo editors but I'll be glad to help with the originals for the covers if anyone is interested to take over on the task!

Thanks a lot to dvran for the latest posts! ;)

Happy Xmas everybody! :)

Thank you very very much! As a vangelis collector I found several albums that i never thought to be able to find in lossless quality. Btw the Megaupload is down since the original owner seems to be charged into a court. If possible, please reupload into mediafire (best one without having restrictions about multiple downloads at the same time), for the sake of archival purposes.

THERE SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE WHOLE FILE SHARING SYSTEM AT THE MOMENT, NOT ONLY MEGAUPLOAD. ALSO FILESONIC AND FILESERVE ARE DELETING HUGE AMOUNT OF FILES BECAUSE OF COPYRIGHTS INFRINGEMENTS. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE WHOLE THING WILL SPREAD TO THE OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS INCLUDING MEDIAFIRE... AND FROM THERE TO FORUMS AND BLOGS AS WELL PERHAPS.
I'D RATHER WAIT TO SEE HOW THE WHOLE THING TURNS OUT BEFORE RE-UPLOADING THE WHOLE 20 GB'S SHARED TO DATE... BUT GIVEN THE CHANCES WE ARE WITNESSING I THINK WE'D BETTER GO BACK TO THE ED2K NETWORK LIKE IN THE OLD DAYS... OR PRIVATE TRACKERS LIKE DEMONOID... IF THEY PASS UNTOUCHED FROM THE WHOLE AFFAIR...

I APOLOGISE FOR MY PREVIOUS SHARES... BUT DO GRAB EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT GRAB UNTIL IT IS STILL THERE... FOR THE REST WE WILL HAVE TO WORK OUT ANOTHER SOLUTION... :(

OK I came across a blog post referring to and carrying some of the Tegos Tapes.

I think no one posted about it here yet. Apparently Vangelis scored some music for a set of tapes with surgeries for Medical Students back in Greece years ago and it's about 12 hours worth of tapes, the vast majority of it scored by vangelis so the videos of the cases being studied wouldn't be too boring.

I found it here, at the Growing Bin: the growing bin: Vangelis - The Tegos Tapes (http://thegrowingbin.blogspot.com/2012/01/vangelis-tegos-tapes.html)

But it's incomplete. A handful of those 35 links are down. I think each of the links is a standalone download though, but I haven't bothered to download them yet.

Does anyone have this complete?

More information about this amazing trove of undiscovered Vangelis music here: Vangelis Collector - Movies - Microneurosurgery with Videotapes (http://vangeliscollector.com/movies_microneurosurgery.htm)

The educational set of tapes costs over €400.

As you guys are discussing Vangelis music, thought this might be of interest.
Again, if anyone has the complete rip of the music, please share. I'd appreciate it.

Regarding the Tegos Tapes, I snatched them all too, corrected the filenames and track titles, added metadata information and cleaned up the artwork scans in the folder.
I organized all of it on iTunes. i am thinking of putting a backup on rapidshare or mediafire just in case any of the The Growing Bin's blog links go down. All credit goes to that blogger of course.

I'm listening to these tapes now. It's an amazing musical landscape that goes on forever (or at least for 9h26mins). What a bounty.

Well in case you are wondering, I used an application called Logmein. I can connect to my computer which is running logmein from any other computer that has an internet connection, see my desktop and move stuff around and control it, as long as it's turned on and online of course. There's also a double password system for access, for security reasons. The rest was done while I slept, (uploading the files) :P. No problem. It's better to download 6 mediafire links than 35 multiupload ones with captchas and time intervals between them.

I would need to patch something in my brain like they did in the Matrix... but thanks for the tip! Perhaps one day we will be heading towards the Neuromancer type of implants... who knows!

Hoping that it is still safe to share some things on the www, after all that has happened...

As long you are not sharing copyrighted content it should be still safe (even if it is not)... as a personal tip I would advice every active peer around to password all the archives and just using fake names for them so that when the Rapidshare guys (or whatever server you might be using) will be kindly asked to delete every file referring to a given name... you might be on the smart side of the moon... and virtually safer (read less trackable). I trust you all got the message... so in this case I would have used something like v-mssng-2011... go and fetch that if you wish... unless you are watching a given thread obviously! :)

Thanks for the Missing upload... and also thanks for the next share on the list obviosly! ;)

Rachel? What a replicant was doing on a planet called Arrakis was beyond my consciousness...

Incidentally I just saw this lately, after I was given the books for my birthday... so if you are looking for a password simply type in the name of the movie... lowercase letters.

Somehow I cannot confirm on the authenticity of this release. It does not look lossless at all... but it might be due to a cut in the upper spectrum.

The analyzer says it is almost lossy, but it might be due to a cut in the upper spectrum. One song is seen as 100% lossless though... (The same song decoded to wav from mp3 is seen as 43% lossless though... go and trust them...)
Again someone paid big cash for a copy of the original and this should not be.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Storyline :

Francesco (1989) - Director: Liliana Cavani

The life of St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) as related by followers who gather after his death to tell stories so that Leone can record them: a privileged and virile youth, a prisoner of war, an heir who turns away from his father and gives all to the poor, a beggar for others, and an inspiration to friends who accept the Gospels' life of poverty. He seeks the Pope's blessing, and he endures persecution at the hands of the family of Chiara Offreduccio (1194-1253), who becomes St. Clare. Many join the order he has established and then rebel at his expectations. In near despair - and ill - he writes a Rule to take to the Pope; then, the Lord sends him a message. He dies smiling.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notes :

I'm guessing this double AM0103 must be a more limited and expanded version of the single AM0102 release. Such a pity none of those 50 collectors ever shared a decent encoding of it.
Surely on the black market copies are easy to obtain at quite affordable prices, but it is hard to tell a lossy cd when the source must have been not so good to start with and nothing that good so to compare with.

Needless to remind to decompress to WAV first (preferred). Cue sheet with CD-Text info is included (suggested). Burn at 4x speed (always) with no pause between tracks otherwise.

Be responsible in giving back what you had for free. Consider sharing back what was shared of old if you care. We are only left with what we share eventually. The more accurately (read properly) the better for the peers-to-be.

In light of the things happening on Ebay, may I kindly and politely ask NOT to put 'hidden' passwords in plain sight, however difficult they are to find or to decipher!
It may not help much in the end, but it is at least one more obstacle for the greedy b*st*rds who try to make easy money with what is shared on these pages.
Thank you for your understanding.

Vangelis - Frankenstein, The Modern Prometheus Three different versions of Vangelis' music for the ballet in one archive.

In July of the same year (1985), he wrote the music for his second ballet, Modern Prometheus. The ballet was premiered at London’s Royal Opera House and was performed by The Royal Ballet. The choreography was arranged by the company’s principal, Wayne Eagling. The show’s spectacular costumes were designed by renowned clothes designer David Emanuel. The ballet was a resounding success with the general public. They enjoyed the outstanding music, colourful costumes and dramatic moods conveyed by the dancers. This was a liberating experience for the Greek composer, taking him to new symphonic levels of musical expression.

Greetings, you have no argument at all. Please remove all posts immediately.

Music theft is a real, ongoing and evolving challenge. Both the volume of music acquired illegally without paying for it and the resulting drop in revenues are staggering. Digital sales, while on the rise, are not making up the difference.

Common Examples of Online Copyright Infringement:

You make an MP3 copy of a song because the CD you bought expressly permits you to do so. But then you put your MP3 copy on the Internet, using a file-sharing network, so that millions of other people can download it.
Even if you don’t illegally offer recordings to others, you join a file-sharing network and download unauthorized copies of all the copyrighted music you want for free from the computers of other network members.
In order to gain access to copyrighted music on the computers of other network members, you pay a fee to join a file-sharing network that isn’t authorized to distribute or make copies of copyrighted music. Then you download unauthorized copies of all the music you want.
You transfer copyrighted music using an instant messenging service.
You have a computer with a CD burner, which you use to burn copies of music you have downloaded onto writable CDs for all of your friends.
Somebody you don’t even know e-mails you a copy of a copyrighted song and then you turn around and e-mail copies to all of your friends.

As far as we are concerned with the issues you are raising none of the music shared in this thread can be officially bought on CD I'm afraid, so we are not offering any unauthorized copies to my knowledge.
If you know anyone selling it at reasonable prices please let us know. We might not need to be here at all and could better spend our time CD shopping. That we do matter of fact, but only with the items officially published by a given publisher.
We do not support bootlegging (the act of selling content illegally). Bootlegs should not be for sale.
Nor we support the selling of items out of catalogue at 10 times their original price.

If there is anything you think is infringing the copyrights you are mentioning please make a list and contact the moderators. Their answers might please you more than my answers.

I'll give you a tip. ;)

Often the rights to film scores are sold to the company in exchange for royalties and payment, and if someone fully endorsed distribution of this content, then an argument could be made for transmitting this work.

Hope that is clearing things a bit. :)

That is the only instance you are entitled to support if you wish to be right.

Vangelis brings you this wonderful music and you repay him like this?

How can it be that someone registered from December 2010 and 450 days worth of threads without ever saying a single thank you suddlently feels like a Supermanhood or the Fantastic 1?

Are you meaning that this is how we repaid him?
We never (most of us at least) gave a penny to the bootleggers (if not out of sheer curiosity sometimes). :)

If he had brought us this wonderful copyrighted music in the first place do you really think we will be sharing what he has never released?
Because this is what we have been doing as opposed to people selling decoded mp3's to silly people craving for anything Vangelis on eBay.

This is how we appreciate his music. This is how we are telling him to officially release his music.

Nota Bene :

Rick Deckard is back. His job: to retire "human specials" known as ebayers.
Not for sale: do not support eBay piracy.

Again I promise that this thread will stop illegally distributing Vangelis music. None of you have any right to distribute Vangelis music in any form at all. Does this make it clear?

You do realise that you are fighting a loosing battle?
Close this thread and 100 new ones will sprout in its place (actually, they already have and this thread isn't even closed yet ;-)
My guess is that new threads spring up faster than you can close them down.

I do not wish to offend you, but you are the embodiement of the obtuseness of record companies. It is precisely this behaviour that causes these threads to appear. If you were to give fans what they want, this thread would die a natural death (I suggest you take a leaf out of Klaus Schulze's book). But you prefer the hardline, and you're not doing yourself any favours by doing so.

Anyway, good luck with your quixotic quest ;-)

This vintage footage of Vangelis playing around on his synthesisers at Nemo Studios in London, is equal parts beautiful and terrifying. What an incredible, intense, truly psychedelic sound he is creating! And what a crazy head space he must have been in to live and work in this environment every day.

According to YouTube uploader Nimanty:

[The] recording of this performance took place [on] Spanish Television in 1982, [and] also when Neuronium (Michel Huygen) visited Vangelis to perform together.

Some enhancement of the original video tape with denoising, contrast improvement and color correction.

Sound remastering for better clearity and stereo imaging.

The sound on this is great - thank you Nimanty!
