This version is NOT Vangelis. Instead it is an orchestral adaptation
performed by The New American Orchestra. This originally came out
in 1982 and for years was the only version of the soundtrack that
could be commercially bought.

25th Anniversary Release

Universal Music TV 5305147 (2007)

In 1994 a single disc CD release came out. This was the first time
that the score was commercially available. Then in 2007 this three
disc CD release came out and was called "Blade Runner Trilogy, 25th
Anniversary". Disc one is the same as the 1994 release. Disc two is
"Previously Unreleased Music & Bonus Materials" and is as it sounds:
even more music from the movie. Disc three is "BR 25" and is billed as
"An album with new music, composed by Vangelis for Blade Runner's
25th anniversary". Again this is a 3 disc CD set and since the first
CD is the same as the single disc CD from 1994 I see no reason to
include that release. Yes this is a big download but you owe it to
yourself as a BLADE RUNNER fan to get this!

THEMES (1989) - VANGELIS

A 'Greatest Hits' Collection

Polydor 839518-2 (1989)

This is essentially a 'greatest hits' collection. I include it here for one
very important reason. It is the only commercial release that includes
the original version of the track BLADE RUNNER END TITLES as is heard
in the movie. The 1994 single disc CD release and the 2007 three disc
CD release both include this track but it was redone by VANGELIS and
is not the same as the version heard in the film. The version on this CD
is the definitive commercial release of that track!

Off World Music OWM 9301 (1993)

This is the original unofficial CD release. This is the one that sort of
got the ball rolling. Granted the quality isn't the best (although not bad)
and it can no longer be considered the definitive version but at the time
this came out it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. A truly great
release that most likely paved the way for the official 1994 edition.

Gongo Music GM 003 (1995)

This is the 2nd major unofficial bootleg CD of the score (the first being
the "Off World Music Ltd." release in 1993). Both have almost the same
track listing (it is ever-so-slightly different) and neither sound "great" but
the Gongo release does seem to be the better sounding of the two.

Though, curiously, I haven't been able to find any sort of confirmation based on the tracklist alone. It does differ greatly from the "Tapes" version listed on Vangelis-rarities (a site I usually go by for accurate info on bootlegs):

I don't have the CD but the version I have posted was ripped with EAC and the included LOG file seems to indicate that no ripping errors happened.

So I dunno but that's all I got. The two "glitches" in question only last a split second each and frankly while it is kewl to have this version (as it was the very first unofficial CD bootleg) it is NOT the best version of the soundtrack so ... it is what it is.

It seems to have more dynamic compared to the off-world version. I tried to get rid of the tape hiss... but ended up with something totally different. Tracklist in case it may need :)

Well, they are pretty similiar, the MKII being a repackage of the original Esper concept though... but to put it like someone called Larcus has pointed out:

"This MK2 Edition is in practice the same as the original 2CD Esper Edition, the main difference is the different song cut. I opened songs from both editions in a sound editor and listened to them, on the MK2 edition some sound is moved from one song to the next or the previous.

e.g.: 40 seconds "Sushi Bar" were moved from the beginning of "Damask Rose" to the end of "Leon's Voight Kampff Test".
e.g.: 60 seconds from the end of "I Am The Business" were moved to the beginning of "Love Theme".

The "I Dreamt Music (Alternate Love Theme) (4:22)" sond is a more clear version with less noise and it does not have the speech of Deckard and Rachel.

Also "End Titles (Extended Version)" has some sound repeated to increase the song length which makes the song a bit too long (gets boring). This song could be a remix of "End Titles" from the original Esper Edition but is of lower sound quality.

Besides the song "I Dreamt Music (Alternate Love Theme)" there is no reason to use this version instead of the original Esper Edition. Though this MK2 Version seems to be widely sold on ebay. Anyways, both of them are fan made and can be gotten for free by various sources. "

Hi DC,
Any uploads that I send DO have all the information that I have available. If I post something without any details, it is only because that is how I got it originally. Likewise in my mp3s that I upload to the BR related thread. If it says artist unknown, that is because whoever originally uploaded the music did not take the time to include a name on the file. I hope this explains my situation regarding historical details.
In short: If I get any information with the music, I will share all that I know. If it came without information then there is nothing I can do.

A while ago a link to yet another version of the very same soundtrack was to be found thanks to a very kind peer's tip. I was pretty happy at having found something I did not yet have and I was more than ready to share it for the sake of the hungry Blade Runner peers around, but after having listened to it very closely I realized why in the name of common sharing sense this had not surfaced before, though it is being shared on private forums perhaps.
Was it possible that the last person to get things was the first one to spot the hidden treasures among sharers? Yes, it happened on a couple of occasions. But no, it simply had not this time, and had to be not for what it matters. The unknown peer had just took some compressed mp3, edited them as audio and reshared the joke as lossless with a nice alternate cover.
He is probably having a laught I suspect, considering that the very same edits got to be re-done from the originals he took his compressed sources (the official 1994 edition) and some other cues re-worked (or cloned according to the official ones from the 1993 Off-World edition) as to match the official sources made available for us from Vangelis itself. A couple of edits might have been lifted directly from the movie including the sound effects. One track got to be remixed to make this release unique :)
Eventually he decided to call it ultimate version though it is far from being so in my opinion. This new version (dubbed MR2 Edition to avoid confusion with the original work shared by our unknown peer) was fixed bit by bit since the concept (though already used with previous Blade Runner boots) was partly good in a way. Perhaps it was done in a good faith with the (used and abused) purpose of preserving his favourite soundtrack, but definitely not properly.
Maybe it was only a waste of time fixing this properly, but surely something interesting (like a different version of Pompeii 76 A.D. for example) might be found in between the edits. Another example is "Blade Runner Blues" (that got its name changed according to our unknown peer's taste as most of the original track titles) that was wickedly edited as one longer track off the scenes featuring its music. Who knows! And yes, I know. The cake is good too.
Isn't it? I trust he'll know what I mean!

A short story is also included if you can figure out how to open the .nfo file :)

This is a custom release: Full Off-World (a.k.a. Nexus 6 Vol 1) and the full Gongo (a.k.a. Nexus 6 Vol 2) in a single release - the Gongo is a repackaging of the Off-World minus a track and plus a different track - and by adding Qu'ran off the first vinyl transfer we will achieve "Vangelis - Blade Runner - Nexus 6 - Vol 3." :)

Those damn hackers released another soundtrack overnight ;) And it does not sound too bad either... Well, it does sound like the Off World and Gongo actually, but If I Didn't Care & Bicycle Riders sound cleaner here... The original version of Qu'ran from the workprint is also present... plus this does not seem to have the clicks and glitches of the Off World version floating around...

Note:

The Off World version posted on page 1 by FulciLives unfortunately has some issues as the original upload since the source cd (a copy of the original) has deteriorated with time I'm afraid. Fortunately it was shared before getting unplayable. The following issues were fixed for this release:

Track 07 had a click at 6'07" min
Track 09 had 2 clicks at around 2'49" min
Track 10 had 3 pops at around 3'03" min plus some small glitches all over the song
Track 11 had 2 clicks at 0'32" sec and 0'33" sec
Track 14 had a defect at 7'23" min
Track 17 had a defect at 2'32" min

A few words need to be added before going lossless. We would like to remind that you should not make profit off what it is not your own. The reason to be of this releases is for a better archival purpose only. Be responsible in giving back what you had for free. Consider sharing back what was shared of old if you care. We are only left with what we share eventually. The more accurately (read properly) the better for the peers-to-be.
Needless to remind to decompress to WAV first (preferred). Cue sheet with CD-Text info is included (suggested). Multiple WAV Files With Gaps (Noncompliant) if you know your tools. http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4 for example. Burn at 4x speed (always) with no pause between tracks otherwise.

For what purpose? Just mux-out 2 dialog layers, mix other 4 in stereo, and you'll get famous "FIC Release", but only "revisited" ;)

Could someone be so kind to re-share the two different versions of the Blade Runner - Los Angeles - November 2019 in lossless if possible?
I am meaning the first edition of it, the 78 min 43 sec and the 78 min 07 sec long of the version included in the Blade Runner - MR3 Edition.
Never mind the maimed Blade Runner - Esper Retirement Edition version as it was heavily edited and bits totalling minutes are missing.
Plus someone has probably swapped the Los Angeles November 2019 discs I was having since the durations on the MR3 should be of the original limited version while the durations listed on the original version are from the MR3 edition on my mp3 backups... the only ones I was left. :(

Hi DC!

�ste disco nace a partir de un "plan limpieza" de cientos de archivos en variados formatos y calidades. En fin, como dec�a, se procedi� a seleccionar lo "menos malo" posible y, luego de trabajar en algunos detalles y fallos... el resultado es dicho disco. Espero que alg�n d�a Frank edite su obra completa, con una calidad de audio acorde y, seg�n estimaciones (m�as) podr�a llegar a contener 40 tracks, aproximadamente. Hasta ese momento, al menos yo, me conformar� con esto.

En los covers re-creados solo se tuvo en cuenta la 1� edici�n.

Sobre los cr�ditos incompletos (muy pobres) y no muy bien estructurados, s�, pens� en hacer algo similar a lo que propones, pero me di� "cosa" manosear tanto la obra original.

De tener que "mejorar y corregir", mejor comenzamos por la primera, aquella OWM de 1993; donde dice "One More Kiss Dear", debiera decir "One More Kiss, Dear", y seguir�amos por horas... d�as... a�os... jeje (si os fij�is en el cover re-creado, podr�s ver que se respet� ese detalle de la obra original).

Igual ver� en que versi�n incluir unos cr�ditos m�s completos para "Los Angeles...".

�Y si hacemos una re-edici�n 2010 Lossless+Cue+Covers?, creo ser�a lo correcto.

Esta versi�n/edici�n nace hace alg�n tiempo y casi de casualidad. En cierta ocasi�n estaba viendo el DVD N�5 de "Blade Runner - Ultimate Collector's Edition", y dentro de �ste hay una secci�n titulada "Deleted and Alternate Scenes". Pues bien, justamente al comenzar dicha selecci�n, deb� realizar otras tareas, raz�n por la cual solo pod�a escuchar el audio de "Deleted and...", me pareci� exquisito, con grandes variantes y diferencias.

Supe que el d�a que juntara ganas, har�a el CD.

Tiempo despu�s proced� a extraer dicho audio, "maquillarlo", etc... y as� sali� a la luz �ste disco. Lamentablemente la calidad del audio no es �ptima (como me gustar�a que fuese) pero es bastante aceptable.

Basically there is only one version of the "Los Angeles, November 2019"... (speaking of lossless as this thread got us used to) which is the audio version most of us know but originating from the decoded mp3's to wav originally posted on newsgroups in 2003.
In 2005 a clever sound engineer decided to correct the version floating around getting rid of the annoying encoder frames added to the start and end of the track since you might be aware what this means when dealing with livesets or continuous audio material... (the gapless playback option was not as trendy as in these days back then...)
The guy anyway omitted about 30 seconds of the actual audio on it in the editing.

Then the people behind the Esper MR3 in 2005, about the same period, furthered the correction process of the audio posted on the newsgroups restoring the missing 30 seconds but changing some of the original dynamics to gain some headroom at a digital stage.
Some might be content with the version on the Esper MR3... both Guilli and I were not.

We have talked about the approach to take on this project and we eventually decided for different approaches.

With this you are getting the original match as posted in 2005 but with some corrections... unless he decided to work on the original sources.

EDIT: YES! HE DID WORK ON THE 2003 VERSION :)

As far as for me I'd like to post a remastered take from the 2003 version if it will prove worth the efforts in the studio...

This is the Pendor take on it in 2010... hence the 2010 reissue... and since we're trying to fix mp3's there is no point in decoding the sources back to mp3's (which is no good)... hence the audio version posted by Guilli...

I'm afraid this is still kept as a best kept secret... and no such thing as a lossless version of the "Los Angeles, November 2019" album was ever shared publicly...

...With this you are getting the original match as posted in 2005 but with some corrections... unless he decided to work on the original sources...

Los originales dados a conocer (p�blica y popularmente) all� por 2003 fueron ripeados por el mism�simo Dr. Frankenstein; la generaci�n del CUE da�� severamente las "uniones" de los tracks generando gaps & clicks, muy pero muy molestos y desagradables dado que esta obra, "Los Angeles..." fue concebida b�sicamente para ser escuchada como si se tratase de un �nico y largo track; imposible hacerlo al menos muy placenteramente con esos "stickers" d�ndonos aviso de las transiciones entre tracks.

Es por ello que se ha procedido a eliminar dichas zonas "muertas" pero, a diferencia de en las ediciones anteriores (y conocidas) sin da�ar el audio ni modificar la din�mica de la amplitud ni duraci�n de los tracks (en tiempo), adem�s se eliminaron muchos clicks generados por el p�simo soft utilizado para la generaci�n del CUE y, por �ltimo y aprovechando la edici�n, se elev� la amplitud algunos dB's.

En los covers se agreg� informaci�n extra en los cr�ditos y que jam�s se incluy� en la versi�n original de 2003.

En fin, es el resulado de "lo menos malo" que hemos podido hacer.

Posiblemente se publique otra versi�n, un tanto m�s libre, con un CUE m�s acorde al comienzo y final de cada uno de los supuestos tracks, o sea: como a mi me habr�a gustado que fuese originalmente. Los covers para esta versi�n (s� DC, no me he olvidado de ello, jeje) tambi�n ser�n m�s libres y relacionados tanto al film como al video game de 1997, l�gico.

Deposit Files is as bad can get any other storage server unless you apply for a paid account I'm afraid... Megaupload has pretty the same policy plus the files do not show on their servers before a couple of hours if sometimes... I'll tell you a trick... but do not tell anybody ;) Promise?

After you have downloaded the content of a link... if you are "asked" to wait 2 hours before downloading another link... just unplug the dsl cable from the socket on the wall... have a quick sandwich... and when you return make sure you delete any temporary files from your browser including the cookies before reconnecting... and as for magic you won't be asked to wait that much to get another link :)
Waiting sucks... but if you just cannot wait you should be able to walk around that... hope everybody got the message :)

First of all a belated Merry Christmas to everybody and I hope you all had a lovely time with your families and friends. I have been reading all the posts from the different Blade Runner soundtrack threads and I am now a bit confused with all the various releases. There are so many! My question is, what is the best of the Esper Editions as far as the original soundtrack is concerned? The original 2CD Esper Edition, the Esper Edition MK2, the Esper Edition MR3 (Disc 1 and 2 only because I am purely talking about the original soundtrack not the extra bonus material and remixes) or the Esper Retirement Edition (Disc 1 and 2 only for the same reasons as per the MR3)? I know that it is very difficult to make a definitive choice but I would like to know which one of these 4 versions of the original soundtrack is overall the best. Also, how does the 2019 Edition compare? From my understanding it seems to be a companion to the various Esper versions of the original soundtrack. Am I wrong? Are the various Esper Editions the best representation of the original soundtrack anyway? Finally I have noticed that there are links in the various posts to the lossless versions of all the titles that I have mentioned except for the first original Esper Edition. Regardless of how it fares compared to the other versions I would like to have it for historical reasons. Would someone be so kind to post a link to a true lossless original Esper Edition then? Thank you very much in advance for your help and I wish you all a fantastic 2011.

What is the best of the Esper Editions as far as the original soundtrack is concerned?

The original 2CD Esper Edition you're after was also included on the Esper Edition MK2, on the Esper Edition MR3 (Disc 1 and 2 if you don't want the extra bonus material and remixes) and on the Esper Retirement Edition (Disc 1 and 2 only for the same reasons as per the MR3)... more or less... there are small differences in the edits on the different Esper versions... (the Retirement being just "different" and "maimed" in a way) but you might not notice that much perhaps. As a personal advice just grab the whole packages that might be still around (MR3 in primis) and have a deep listen! :)


How does the 2019 Edition compare?

The 2019 Edition is totally different since it was sourced from the the 640 kbs 5.1 rip of the movie but there are some nice alternatives like The Final Mix, Complete Score and The Sound Of Blade Runner Definitive Edition in better quality on some instances... The 2019 is more musically pure in its fashion while the Esper has a continuous flow. It pretty stands on it own in my opinion. Everything that was being posted here is a companion to the various Esper versions if you like to put it in that way.


Are the various Esper Editions the best representation of the original soundtrack anyway?

Well... everyone around here might think diffently on the subject. I think no. It used to be a best representation of it... but as I said there are some nice alternatives as well ;)

One thing I do like on the Esper Retirement Edition is that they, at least, tried to fix the horrible timing glitches on "Taffy's Bar" track. There is also a few small things that are only on this version.
I also recommend Sebastien's 2008 edition as well as The Sound Of Blade Runner 2010 DE. They are both 2 disc sets and both remarkably different from each other.

I didn't consider the Esper Retirement Edition (disc 1 and 2 only) as my Esper of choice simply because dadadacicici said that it is maimed so I was considering MK2 or MR3 (disc 1 and 2 only) as my pick with a preference towards MK2 given that I believe that they are identical (correct me if I am wrong). If you say that Retirement (disc 1 and 2) is the best of all the Espers I will make it my choice. I have noticed that there is a very nice post from you to a lossless version of it so thank you for that. Thank you also for recommending Sebastien's 2008 and The Sound of Blade Runner 2010 DE. You said that they are remarkably different so would you be so kind to tell me what the main differences are? Do both titles contain original 1982 recordings and mixes by Vangelis? I am a bit confused about The Sound Of Blade Runner 2010 DE because you said that is a 2 CD set but I have seen a post from you to a CD 4 in lossless format. Is The Sound Of Blade Runner 2010 DE a 2 or 4 disc set? Thank you for your help.

Are Disc 1 and 2 on the Esper MR3 identical to Esper MK2 or are they different? If they are different what are the differences? From my understanding Esper MR3 is basically an expanded version of Esper MK2 containing the same material on disc 1 and 2 plus two extra discs of additional material (disc 3 and 4). Am I correct?

They are identical (even if they are not). The music included on both editions is the same anyway, the MR3 add a little something but not much. The track indexing is different for a start. MR3 has two extra discs... but you seem not interested much on those (still... grab whatever you might still get and have a listen to it). The version on the Esper Retirement should be the same except that the Prologue (initial part of Main Titles) is missing. That's why I would go for the MR3. The version on the Esper Retirement sounds different to the original mix anyway. I still prefer the original mix rather than the stereo effect added on the original mix on the Retirement... but on that the final judgement will have to be yours. It's a matter of how it sounds best for you...


You recommended The Final Mix, Complete Score or The Sound Of Blade Runner Definitive Edition over the 2019 Editon because of better sound quality, are there any other significant differences? Also, are these three releases the same but with different titles or are they actually different? If they are different which one is the best in your opinion?

Well, I did recommend some alternatives to the 2019 edition but they all differs in what the producers beyond these editions wanted to achieve.

The Sound Of Blade Runner by Vincente (Definitive Edition 3CD Set---CD4 being a not-so-official disc of an unofficial release as far as I know---) is not mixed, same for most songs on the Complete Score which was based on The Sound Of Blade Runner in a way but adding something off the Esper concept... The Final Mix cleverly mixed the official Trilogy version with the 5.1 rip while the 2019 only included mainly the 5.1 mix.


Finally, what is the best compilation of outtakes and unreleased tracks (original recordings and original mixes by Vangelis only)?

As Steven has pointed out also the 2008 Edition by Sebastian is a nice alternative and more close to the Gongo/Off-World concept making it a quite good compilation of outtakes and unreleased tracks since it is not mixed and the songs are cleverly edited too.

All of the aforementioned releases do contain original 1982 recordings and mixes by Vangelis (et all).

The Sound Of Blade Runner 2CD set is not to be confused with The Sound Of Blade Runner Definitive Edition 3CD Set. The former should be mixed while the latter was the expanded version coming off the first one.

I will just listen to all of them when in the mood for it... we are being graced with the chance of choosing which one to listen to and I listen to all all them randomly :)

dadadacicici, I totally understand when you say that one should listen to and grab everything and that is what I would normally do except that I don't want to listen to everything related to the Blade Runner soundtrack. Don't get me wrong, I do love the soundtrack (and the movie) as much as you all do but I am not as involved as you are, I simply have a different relationship with it that although not casual is certainly less deep and complex than yours. I listen constantly to a considerable amount of music, both for work and (mostly) for pleasure, so I really wanted to save myself having to go through countless versions of basically the same recordings to compare them all. I just wanted to keep it simple and adopt a fresh approach, as opposed to a rather analytical one. Pick the key and truly essential releases then just listen to them and enjoy. That is why I decided to rely on your invaluable knowledge and expertise and started to ask lots of questions (sorry about that...) in order to understand which of these many recordings would be the best ones for me, according to my specific preferences. dadadacicici and Zhora, you succeeded 100% and you really helped me with my choice so thank you very, very much. Please let me know if there is anything I can do in return.

Someone has gone through countless versions of basically the same recordings to compare them all as you would put it.
This was based on the releases you're after if you wish to have something that sort has it all. It is not sequenced... not all of the songs at least.

Perhaps you have burned a copy decoded to wav since the quality on this is nearly perfect (if you leave out the edited milliseconds I mean)... this should not have that really... at least not in the way you are putting it...

I realized what you were saying only reading back your post... I think I know what you're meaning... and yes... it has that since the wave editors back in end of 1998 weren't that smooth... but that comes with the release anyway. The pre-master did not have much of those issues though... There's should be a bootleg edit of the Deck Art release containing only the M�moires 7 release (without the bonus tracks added to the Deck Art remastering I mean) floating around... cannot locate the links at the moment...
If you happen to have the M�moires 7 (or the Struzan Beta pre-master bootleg) it would be nice comparing the differences! :)

As for Xchullit... I guess that he was meaning that he had that already! ;)

Shall we get an english teacher for Guilli and Xchullit then? Let's vote! :)

Hiya, the download I have of Retirement Edition CD1 (from Zhora) has two track ones. First track One says it is 'beginning restored from Esper Mk1, the other track one is unnamed as are the rest of the tracks. Which track one does the fix (from daddaddacicici) replace? Ta in advance, terryscifi

That should replace both tracks when burning a cd if you wish! :)

I did that since the only version we have of the Retirement Edition has that missing intro left out... either the collector ripping it has made that on purpose either the Retirement team was careless about it... the one I have posted is the one that I promised to a couple of friends... hope it will be useful for everybody until the guys behind the Esper Retirement will be kind enough to share the proper version of it... it could have been done much better with a full analogue gear support... but I do not like much fixing other's people mess... (someone has already took the time to fix plenty of it in the mp3 version of that) and they have done a lot of it in the Esper Retirement... and not when they did not care much about it... you should not pay 200 quids for that really... :(

Hi Terryscifi,
The track 1 with the beginning missing is how it came on the cd.
The other track 1 that I originally uploaded has the intro restored from an earlier album. Just the first part has been restored and the rest of the track is still the Retirement Edition version.
If DC's fix is better than mine then by all means use his.

Many thanks again Synaptyx for all thoses BR Bootlegs soundtracks in lossless...Any chance to "reactivate" the torrent for BR Esper MR3 4 DISCS in FLAC?...All torrents i've check for this one got no source and i've only got it in 320kbps (i had previously this score in lossless but on my old computer which has crashed).
