What a great (and underrated) composer!

Well said. I just can't understand his comparitive lack of popularity. Great melody writer, meticulous orchestrator, impeccable sense of the emotional centre... and he's barely on the radar.

A lot of the time, people won't take a chance on somebody they don't know... but they probably will if they see a compilation. Original poster - thank you for this - it's a wonderful listen as an album (even to somebody familar with Holdridge) and at the same time it will hopefully open a lot of people's eyes to this splendid composer.

If anyone's up for some more Lee Holdridge, just have a look thru the Olympic Games Music thread for the 16 Days of Glory Soundtracks:
Thread 76023
I posted the LA 84 edition of 16 Days last week.

Thanks so much! I was planning to make my own compilation of favorite Lee Holdridge themes and this is perfect! It came out in 2009? Can you still buy it? I don't see it at screenarchives.com :/ I really appreciate being able to download at least. :)

I only own the soundtrack of The Mists of Avalon, which i actually like it. But I don't know nothing more of Holdridge music, so this compilation seems to be is a good way to discover some of his music.
Thanks for sharing.

In my experience listening to Holdridge, I didn't find much worthwhile. Mists of Avalon wasn't very interesting, neither was Winterhawk, beastmaster, or East of Eden. However in the hopes that I may find something I like I should check this one out.

I thought from the title this might be a re-release of the Charles Gerhardt disc, but I see there's a lot more here :) Thank you!

Other Holdridge shrine-essentials:

Star Command / Freefall / Secret of Nimh 2 (Thread 58144)

The Film Music of Lee Holdridge (Gerhardt) (Thread 39661)

I have to say after listening to this set, I have completely changed my views on Holdridge. I must have somehow downloaded the mediocre pieces (mist of avalon) but the majority of the pieces on here are fantastic. Some leave me wanting for more but others are great just the way they are here. Thanks so much for posting this and I hope that everyone will download it and listen to it once for the possibility that you might find something you like.

He's certainly had his dullard scores... but there's much gold to be had as well. I'm so glad that you've found some good stuff in here. (Yes, I know, I didn't post it - but I'm a big fan of Holdridge and it's lovely when someone else joins the club.) :)

Just wondering, is there any way we could get some of his full albums uploaded here? I'm specifically looking for Buffalo Girls and Call of the Wild, though I'm certain I'll be on the market for more sooner or later...

Thanks in advance!

Can't get the OP Link to work. It takes me to RS, but then nothing happens when I click their link. :(
