Thought I'd start a general request thread for music from the Olympic Games.
(I noticed there has been some posted to this board already)

(*Edited* Added the following links for convenience)
The following links go to music that was already posted on this message board in other threads:

Anyone happen to have the AT&T Team USA Soundtrack for 2010?

And a couple questions:
Does anyone happen to know if albums were released for the following:
Athens 2004 Opening Ceremony
Torino 2006 Winter Games?
Thanks in advance.

Noticed online that albums exist for the Montreal '76 games and the LA '84 games as well. Anybody happen to have these or know what's on them?

There's an album for Calgary '88? If there is, I'm very intrested. :)

I'm putting my own Calgary '88 album together, but so far I've only got three tracks:
1. Winter Games (instrumental) by David Foster (Calgary 88 theme song)
2. Alberta Bound by Gordon Lightfoot - performed during Opening Ceremonies
3. Four Strong Winds by Ian Tyson - performed during Opening Ceremonies
I'd like to add the following two, but I'm still looking for them:
1. Can't You Feel It? by David Foster - performed during Closing Ceremonies (It's Winter Games with lyrics)
2. Turn Me Round by k.d. lang - performed during Closing Ceremonies
I can't remember who else performed during the ceremonies, or if any of the instrumental stuff was ever released.

I thought I had Can't You Feel It? on a CD somewhere, but I can't find it. This version of Winter Games (with lyrics) is hard to find. The k.d. lang song shouldn't be that hard to acquire.

Did some searching for this album. A very rare one in the Olympic Games music library. The correct name of the album is:

Dream on the Horizon: A Tribute to the Olympic Spirit

(this was the best image I could find of the cover)

by
The Big Picture
which consists of:
Alex Lifeson of Rush
Rik Emmet of Triumph
Liona Boyd
Produced by Keith Elshaw
(Craig Farraway's track was added to it)

Looks like there are only five tracks. Two of the tracks are available online:
Dream on the Horizon - Craig Farraway (http://sites.google.com/site/farraway/CraigFarraway-DreamOnTheHorizon.mp3?attredirects=0) (192 kbps)
found on Craig Farraway's site:
http://sites.google.com/site/farraway/mymusic

Hands of Man (Instrumental) - The Big Picture (Alex Lifeson) (http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/3/8/864051/TheBigPicture%28AlexLifeson%29-HandsOfMan%28instrumental%29.mp3) (128 kbps)
found on The Rush Is a Band blog:
http://www.rushisaband.com/display.php?id=1899

One of the other three songs is a vocal version of Hands of Man. Don't know what the other two songs are. If anyone finds the complete album, post it here. :)

The only place you may likely find this album, is in a used record store in Calgary.

Here's a clip on Youtube: Dream on the Horizon on the News (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mScJ14BWAM)

So... anyone happen to have the Salt Lake 2002 albums in my original post?

I have both of them and will try to get them up tomorrow, possibly along with some other items of interest. :)

As for "Can't You Feel It?", all I can find are some low-res YouTube vids:
- Closing Ceremonies (excerpt) - 1988 Calgary Olympics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ki16mEGvfQ)
- Winter Games - Calgary 1988 - Can't you feel it? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvHUPQH9JZs&NR=1)

Also, while hunting around, I found references to two cover versions of "Winter Games":
- Robert Wells ("a Swedish composer, pianist, and singer"): Amazon link (with 30-sec audio sample) (http://www.amazon.com/Rhapsody-Rock-Complete-Robert-Wells/dp/B00008G4F2/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1275784241&sr=8-11)
- US Air Force Band (from the CD "Wintertime") (no audio sample) (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usafband.af.mil%2Fensembles%2 FBandDiscography.asp%3FalbumID%3D35&ei=bu0KTPWpDsGB8gaHm7WPBw&usg=AFQjCNGeExHUWWfjyjBau4f6C31YgrXarQ)

As for the AT&T soundtrack, I already have the 2008 one, which I'm assuming this is because it has a swimmer on it. AT&T released a team USA soundtrack for the Vancouver Winter Games and this is the one I'm looking for. This one that you put up might be different though. I'll check it out anyways. This is all I could find graphic wise for the 2010 edition:

AT&T even had a pin with this design in Vancouver.

In my Olympic music research I stumbled upon another one for Athens 2004, In addition to the Unity and Harmony albums that were released here in North America, there was a 3rd official album released in Greece with Greek music. Here's the album cover:

Phos: The Official Athens 2004 Olympic Greek Album

I've managed to find one track from this album and that's about it.

And going back in time a little farther to 1988...

I believe the albums are the same, just a color variation of the cover. I actually do have this one but I'm looking for it in 320 kbps.

Also, does anyone happen to have this album:

Here's the back cover art:

It's not an official Sydney 2000 album, but was some promo/tie-in album to the 2000 Olympics. I've heard one track from it and from what I heard it sounded good. (Track #6, "Australia" is up on Youtube)

A few more Olympic Games albums I'm on the lookout for:

1972 Munich - Olympia Parade 2 by Kurt Edelhagen

The "2" on the cover art has me wondering if there is another Munich album, one that I haven't discovered yet.

1976 Montreal - Games of the XXI Olympiad Original Soundrack - Music of the Official Ceremonies by Andr Mathieu & Victor Vogel

There is a torrent out there but it doesn't seem there are enough seeds.

1980 Moscow

I can't read Russian so I can't tell you the name of the album

1992 Barcelona - Carlos Santos - Musica Para Las Ceremonias Olimpicas Barcelona '92

An alternative cover:

Strange but so far I haven't found any albums or official music for Sarajevo, Albertville, Lillehammer, Nagano, Torino. And so far I haven't been able to locate any official music releases prior to 1972.

I did find the theme song for Lake Placid 1980, Chuck Mangione's "Give It All You Got" from his album Fun and Games.

And if anyone is interested, I found the LA '84 games album on a blog site:
http://totallyradicalsoundtrax.blogspot.com/2009/08/official-music-of-xxiiird-olympiad-los.html
The bit rates are all mixed. I think there is a torrent out there that's at 192 and has the tracks in order.

I haven't heard anything if there will be official albums released for London 2012, but there probably will be as these albums have become more popular in the last couple of decades.

Excellent! Can't wait!

I did manage to get the Montreal '76 torrent to work. The tracks are only in 192 kbps but sound not bad since they were ripped from vinyl. I'll still be on the lookout for something higher, ideally 320.

I figured out the two album covers for the Sydney 2000 games. The white cover is actually a slip case for the black & orange cover.

Speaking of the Sydney games, even though there wasn't an official album released for the closing ceremony, I'm slowly putting together my own with music from the concert segment. Still looking for a few tracks though, such as a good live recording of Slim Dusty performing Waltzing Matilda. The one I got a hold of is from one of his albums but the tempo is quicker. When he performed it live, it had a slower tempo with the audience sing-along.

Here's another one I stumbled upon. The cover art and track list was posted on another board, unfortunately the tracks weren't. It's a promo CD featuring music by Mark Watters:

The track list for this one is as follows:

MUSIC FROM THE 1996 SUMMER OLYMPICS

1. Countdown/Samuranch (1:40)
2. The Run Through Time (4:21)
3. The River (4:56)
4. The Storm (2:29)
5. Dignitaries Walk-On (1:07)
6. Earth Rise (2:25)
7. Faster, Higher, Stronger (4:20)*

* Jessye Norman, soprano Lyrics by Lorraine Feather

1996 Watter Friends For Music, Inc.
One thing I'd like to do is take all the Atlanta tracks I've managed to gather and put together an accurate track list for the opening ceremony. I've read thru the opening ceremony section in vol 2 of the official report, but it's lacking some detail. I'm hoping I can track down an opening ceremony program and hope the music is listed in there in the correct order it was performed.

Several years ago, composer Kurt Bestor posted his "Flag Processional" from the 2002 Winter Olympic Games to his blog. It's no longer available there, but I did find it here: http://www.dilettantemusic.com/audio/19575# (streaming format, but downloadable via RealPlayer's "Download This Clip" feature or the like).

It's a great piece, reminiscent of John Williams and James Horner, and is well worth adding to your collection!

And here's a piece titled "Donner in Den Uhren" which is a "solo violin piece (performed by Igor Gruppman) commissioned for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and composed to honor the great Austrian skier Franz Klammer." Considering that Kurt Bestor himself appears to have uploaded it to the site, I'm guessing that he composed it!

Link: http://www.dilettantemusic.com/audio/19567#
(streaming format, but downloadable via RealPlayer's "Download This Clip" feature or the like)

Edit: This piece was featured on Kurt Bestor's and Sam Cardon's CD titled Innovators 2: Keepers of the Flame, so indeed, it was composed by Bestor (and Cardon).

No problem! The Olympic games music collecting bug bit me this year when we hosted the winter games here in BC. But I was actually interested in it ever since the '88 games in Calgary. What makes it interesting is the music is harder to find than regular mainstream music or OSTs - because they go OOP very quickly, for instance, the Sydney 2000 CD is only available thru Amazon Marketplace and it's starting at $80 for new copies (there's currently only two available).

I recently found an archived webpage that was compiled by someone named Olympic Bob. It's an almost comprehensive list covering music from 1908 to 2002. A couple highlights on this list:

There was a 2-disc release for the Sydney 2000 opening ceremonies.
An 82-disc set for the Salt Lake Games featuring music played at the venues. Yes, that is not a typo; 82 discs featuring over 1500 songs. Only 19 sets exist as this music was only played at the venues.

There's some really cool stuff on that list. Here's the link to the page:
http://web.archive.org/web/20040907054245/http://members.aol.com/olympicbob/myhomepage/
Just note that right now it's not working, perhaps later this evening when traffic slows down. I did save the text as a word file so at least I got that to go by.

Olympic music is actually what brought me to this board. There's a lot of great stuff scattered around this board. What I'll do is update the first post in this thread with organized links (by Olympiads) to those posts.

And thanks thx99 for your new additions!

Gonna deviate a little, but still stay within the topic of the Olympics. Here's soundtracks to Olympic Games inspired movies:

The links just go to blogs or posts where I found them, so you will find the download links from there.

1981 - Chariots of Fire

It's available in mp3 and APE on that link.
There is an expanded score to this one floating around out there, but I haven't been able to find a link that works yet.

1993 - "Feel the Rhythm, Feel the Rhyme, Get on up, It's Bobsled time... COOL RUNNINGS!"
(one of my favourite movies)

One of the downers of the Vancouver 2010 games, these boys didn't qualify this year :( Hopefully Rasta Rocket gets to ride in Sochi.

Format is mixed, 168 to 218 kbps mp3.

Great movie, got to watch it one of these days again. It's actually posted on this board right here:
http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1243099&postcount=1297

2005 - Munich

Not one that you would really associate with sport, but it's related to the '72 Munich games.
http://filmmusic.ru/2007/09/28/soundtrack-munich/
What's interesting about Munich (the city, not the movie), earlier this week they were declared an official candidate city by the IOC to host the 2018 Winter Games, along with Annecy, France and PyeongChang, South Korea. The 2018 host is supposed to be announced next year. If Munich wins, would this be the first time a city has hosted both the summer and winter games?

Here's one that I'm on the lookout for. It would be great to find this one in 320 kbps because it was released to CD. Note the different covers:

From the Seoul 1988 Olympic Summer Games...

Hand in Hand - single release
(The official theme song)

I'm guessing this one is a single too:

Multi-track ??

And another alternate cover:

The track list is as follows:

Format: CD Album
Country of manufacture: Made in Germany
Released: 1988
Producer: Giorgio Moroder
Label: Polydor Records
Cat.-No.: 836 111-2

1.) Hand In Hand
2.) Stay
3.) Love Away
4.) Loving You, Loving Me
5.) Restless Heart
6.) Victory
7.) Listen To Your Heart
8.) Live My Life
9.) Running Like The Wind
10.) Call My Name

So if anyone happens to run into this one (hopefully in 320) it would be greatly appreciated. :)

I recently found an archived webpage that was compiled by someone named Olympic Bob. It's an almost comprehensive list covering music from 1908 to 2002.
Yes, Olympic Bob! I had brief contact with him many years ago, and recall his music listing. I too copied it off at some point but considering how long ago that was, my version is obsolete by now, so thanks for posting the "fresh" link.

^thx99, thanks for those!

I was doing some more Olympics music research and stumbled upon these additional Beijing 2008 albums (sorry no links to files, I just found the cover art):

A single 'Friends':

The Collection of Songs From Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

Those must be those CGIed firework footprints from the opening ceremonies on the cover. ;)

Theme Songs for the Opening and Closing Cermeonies of the Beijing 2008 Olympics an Paralympics

The Live Concert for Beijing 2008 Olympics Games
(I'm not sure if this is an actual music album or a DVD of a live concert)

I found this info on a flickr account:

To mark the beginning of the 100-day countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games, a large-scale star-studded concert was held in front of the Working People's Culture Palace on April 30, 3008. Close to 100 artists from across Asia gathered for this grand event to perform their award-winning Olympics songs and show support for the upcoming games. The long list of top stars present include Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Nicholas Tse, Gigi Leung, Karen Mok, and Joey Yung from Hong Kong; Jay Chou, Leehom Wang, Jolin Tsai, Amei Chang, 5566, Emil Chau, Fan Wei Qi, Vivian Hsu, Landy Wen, Kenji Wu, and Peter Ho from Taiwan; JJ Lam, Stefanie Sun, and A-do from Singapore; Jang Nara from Korea; and Chris Li, Bibi Zhou, Sun Nan, Han Hong, Yu Quan, Huang Xiaoming, Wang Feng Na Ying, Anson Hu, Fan Bingbing, Kym, and Super Junior's Han Geng from China. This unprecedented collection of stars also gave rise to some exciting collaborations like Huang Xiaoming and Jolin Tsai's "Right Here" and Han Geng, Peter Ho, A-do, Sky Wu, Pan Long, and Su Xing's "Brothers, Bottoms Up". All the artists joined voices for a mass rendition of the night's theme song "Beijing Welcomes You".

And Jackie Chan gets his own album...
The Official Album for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Jackie Chan Edition

I'm very interested in listening to this one. Wonder if he can sing his own songs like he performs his own stunts. :)

Super Hero

Info from the same flickr account:

In commemoration of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, MBC Sports presents a special collection of songs to celebrate milestone moments and victories. Super Hero contains a total of 19 inspirational tracks that befit the ceremonial occasion such as Clay Aiken's On My Way Here, Krystal Meyers's Make Some Noise, Mario Frangoulis's Here's To The Heros, Donna Summer's Stamp Your Feet, Scorpions's The Game Of Life, Sarah McLachlan's Angel, John Mayer's Say, plus many more. An alluring musical extravaganza, Super Hero will let you relive the moments of jubilation as some of your favorite athletes set out to make history in the world of sports.

I have no idea what the track lists are for these albums as I couldn'tread the Chinese that was on the site where I found them. It's possible a lot of this stuff is repeated on the other albums that were already posted to this message board (see the first post in this thread for links to those). All I got to say is wow! BOCOG released probably the most official albums out of all the Olympic organizing committees so far.

Olympic Barcelone '92 - Andromeda Project

I found this one-and-only picture of the cover and a track list. Further Google searching for more info came up dry. Looks like it was a promo CD as it was released in 1991.

Also, anyone happen to have this:

I'm actually interested in the last track on the album. It's "Call To All Nations" which was played at the start of the Atlanta '96 opening ceremony. If I recall it was in the segment just after the countdown - the segment where they had those Olympic color spirits pop up around the edge of the stadium and they were using those wind machines that they used in the movie Twister.

1980 Moscow

I can't read Russian so I can't tell you the name of the album

I found some info on a Blog about this album. Even though I don't know Russian, apparently the title translates to "My Love is Sport":
http://www.leaderdialog.com/blog/index.php?blog=173&title=the_funeral_services_for_jon_frederick_k&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

1980

The Official 1980 Olympic Album (cover translation: "My Love [is] Sport"), produced by Alexandra Pakhmutova and sold following the Games (includes the two Living Sound songs mentioned above). These Living Sound songs were also included on the Official 1980 Olympic Gold Medalist Film and shown across the Soviet Union in 1980. Mike McKibben and Don Moen actually sat in a large Moscow cinema, saw the film and heard the Living Sound songs on their next trip described below. A special extended play "EP" album that included these songs was also distributed by Melodiya Records.

The blog posting includes a link to this site:
http://www.pakhmutova.ru/songs/l_m_sprt.shtml
The site, all in Russian, has download links. I'm assuming the tracks with the Moscow '80 logo next to them are from the album maybe? If anyone knows Russian, please feel free to jump in and give us a translation.

Unfortunately I don't have a download in this post, but just thought I'd show you what I'm trying to compile. With thanks to this board and thx99 for providing the Mark Watters Atlanta album, and reading thru the Atlanta '96 official report on the LA '84 Foundation's website, I was able to compile this list for the opening ceremonies:

1. Countdown-Samuranch - Mark Watters
2. Call of the Nations - Mickey Hart
3. Summon the Hereos - John Williams
4. Ruffles and Flourishes - US Army Herald Trumpets
5. Star-Spangled Banner
6. Georgia on My Mind - Gladys Knight
7. Segment: Southern Summer Night
8. Segment: The River - Mark Watters
9. Segment: The Storm - Mark Watters
10. Segment: Rebirth and Celebration
11. Hallelujah
12. When the Saints Go Marching In
13. Segment: Centennial segment - Tribute to original Olympics
14. Segment: Parade of Athletes
15. Segment: Opening Remarks (Dignitaries Walk-on - Mark Watters)
16. Simple Gifts (Shaker Hymn)(played during entrance of the Olympic flag)
17. Segment: World Peace segment featuring Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech
18. Segment: Centennial Olympian Segment - former gold medal Olympians entrance
19. Segment: Arrival of the Olympic Flame
20. Ode to Joy - Beethoven (played during final leg of torch relay)
21. Segment: Olympic Oath segment
22. The Power of the Dream - Celine Dion
23. Faster, Higher, Stronger - Jessye Norman (composed by Mark Watters, lyrics by Lorraine Feather)

I'm still on the lookout for a bunch of these tracks and further researching what was performed. I still have to watch a bunch of the vids on Youtube to see what was performed in what segment.

If anyone has "Call to All Nations" by Mickey Hart, that would be awesome. I just know that it was released on his Best Of album, but it looks like it's OOP now.

If anyone has any info to add to this list, please do so. :)

I found the cover art for the David Foster Calgary 88 LP album that contained only three tracks:

1. Winter Games
2. Four Strong Winds
3. Alberta Bound

This album is pretty much impossible to find, so I made my own with some added tracks:

1. Winter Games - David Foster (performed during opening ceremony)
2. Alberta Bound - Gordon Lightfoot (performed during opening ceremony with Ian Tyson)
3. Four Strong Winds - Ian & Sylvia Tyson (performed during opening ceremony with Gordon Lighfoot)
4. Turn Me Round - k.d. lang (performed during closing ceremony)
Bonus Tracks: From the album: Dream On The Horizon: A Tribute To The Olympic Spirit!
5. Dream on the Horizon - Craig Farraway
6. Hands of Man (Instrumental) - The Big Picture (Alex Lifeson)
Note that tracks 2 and 3 were just taken off other albums. These were not the versions performed in Calgary. #4 is from k.d. lang's album Reintarnation - this one sounded very close to what was performed at the closing ceremony.

It's still missing some tracks though. To make it a bit more complete I'm still looking for the following to add to it:

1. Come Together in Calgary
2. Can't You Feel It? - David Foster (vocal version of "Winter Games" - performed during closing ceremony)
3. Share the Flame (Torch Relay theme)
plus the other 3 missing tracks from Dream on the Horizon.

Anyway, here's the 6 Calgary tracks.

"Julian was commissioned to score the music for the finale of the London leg of the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay. The music, just under 6 minutes long, presented the final four torchbearers. Four interlinking sections were composed with overlapping sections alllowing timing adjustments to match the runners pace.

The four torchbearers were Ellen MacArthur, Danny Crates, Theo Woolcote and Kelly Holmes. The cauldron was lit at a ceremony besides the O2 Dome in Greenwich, East London.

The event was directed by Robert Alge.

"The theme song to the Olympic Quiz 'The most beautiful female athletes' the ARD-Olympia Studios: 'If you could read my mind' from the Spotnicks:
http://www.olympia72.de/spotnicks.mp3

One of the best Gordon Lightfoot songs. It's a nice instrumental version. One of my favourites was the disco version that was in the movie 54.

It's funny, I got all the Munich tracks already. I think they were posted on another message board (Gamesbids?) where I got them.

2004 Athens (Music by Julian Scott):
2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Relay (Music by Julian Scott)

I've been to the Julian Scott site too, but I have no means of extracting those files. Can anyone extract them?

I think I made my way over to the Julian Scott site from the Gamesbids message board.

I have some other odds and ends I'll post too. I found I got one track from Albertville and one track from Torino I found in my library.

I'm still looking for one track to make my Vancouver 2010 collection complete. Someone included the Russian Hymn in with the closing ceremony album as a bonus track on the board, but what I'm looking for is the Sochi 2014 handover segment, which can be seen here on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwtyYN-k-I8
Someone said it's available on iTunes, but I haven't been able to find it - maybe because it was only available on the US version of iTunes?

I have that Micky Hart cd that has Call to Nations, not entirely sure where, I'll have to have a hunt around to find it.

I'd be quite interested to see if the Klaus Badelt piece used during the Beijing closing ceremony (as images of the past 16 days of competition was projected onto the roof rim) can be found - I thought it was a great piece of music.

That would be great if you could find the Mickey Hart CD. :)

I'll take a look thru the Beijing albums if the Klaus Badelt piece is on there, but I don't remember seeing it in the lists. Great composer - loved his soundtrack for the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

I've got one track I'm posting from the Atlanta '96 opening ceremony because I'm hoping someone may have a better version of it, and, I actually don't know the name of the song...

This piece is from the segment with the marching bands and the cheerleaders. The name of the song eludes me. Anyone know? Is it "Welcome to the World" or something like that? It also has John Williams' Olympic Fanfare and Theme from the LA '84 games mixed in as well.

Just note that someone recorded this off the live broadcast so it's not the greatest quality. Anyone happen to have this in a better version?

This was probably my favourite segment of the whole Atlanta opening ceremony. Here's the segment on Youtube:

I Googled the song title but couldn't find anything. Instead it came up with a different song done by some rapper.

So here's a long-shot, but I wonder if anyone can help me out here.

It's not strictly Olympic Ceremony music, but NBC uses a cue package that's a re-record of the Williams Olympic Fanfare/Theme from '84. It's far better in sound than the original, but I can't find it anywhere, even though it seems like they've been using it since 2002.

I've been able to find a few LQ cuts of another mini-package they never really used that was an inferior re-record of Summon the Heroes ('96), but none from that original theme package.

If anyone's ever able to turn anything up, I'd be eternally grateful.

A few tracks...

From the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games

Give It All You Got by Chuck Mangione (the official theme song)
Format: 256 kbps mp3

http://rapidshare.com/files/405239855/LakePlacid1980.rar

And from Torino...

1. Fun and Fame by Ajad (128 kbps mp3)
2. Living in My City by Eiffel 65 (the official theme song of Torino 2006) (320 kbps mp3)

http://rapidshare.com/files/405240249/Torino2006.rar

The track Fun and Fame was available on the Torino 2006 website. This was known as the athlete's song. There was also another track available, but I wasn't able to download it before the website faded into history - this track was music used during the medal ceremony and cauldron lighting. Anyone happen to have this track?

And I'll deviate from the Olympics a little. Here's something from another world-wide sporting event. Click the vuvuzela for a surprise (not my upload and no, you will not hear a vuvuzela ;))

It's Craig here. I am the writer of the song, "Dream on the Horizon". I thought of the title during a long car ride, out of boredom. It was the next day when I got a call to write the song. They then used the title for the album. I can verify all of this if you send me a pm. on youtube. Anyone happen to have these?

I found it here (@ 160kbps):

http://rapidshare.com/files/189958461/Theodorakis-1992-Canto_olympico.rar

no pw

(not my upload so credit goes to the original uploader)

Anyone happen to unzip this one properly? It seems there is something wrong with the second track.

Thanks for those additions thx99.

My pleasure!

FWIW, the Canto Olympico RAR file extracted perfectly for me using 7Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/).

Just want to let you know that the Canto Olympico file is not complete. The first track is half the length than what it should be. Also, the last two tracks are shorter than they should be. the track labeled "01b" is not playable. I tried using 7Zip and winrar, but had the same results when I unzipped the rar file. Does anyone have this album complete?

If anyone's lucky to find the Sissel album Innerst i sjelen, it has three 1994 Winter Olympics songs on it: Fire In Your Heart (duet with Plcido Domingo), Prosesjon, and Hymne Olympique. Are there any records from the 50s or 60s Olympic Games published?

There are! For instance I saw this one listed on eBay:

However, a bit pricey. It was listed for $500! Here's a few more I found listed on eBay that exist:

Jazz at the Olympics - Ralph Sutton Quartet - 1960

And another one that was listed on eBay:
1896-1960 Songs of the Olympic Years

I think there were albums released for Innsbruck and Squaw Valley as well.

If I remember correctly the Long John Baldry Mexico song was used as the BBC signature tune to its coverage. This was before the BBC began comissioning music for its Olympic coverage.

Sanico

And there is also from the 60s the soundtrack of the documentary film Tokyo Olympiad.

Fun and Games - Syd, Millie, and Olly Sing Their Favourite Olympic Songs

Olympic Record - Sydney 2000

Another shot of the case I found:

According to the sticker, it's got the Torch Relay song on it.

I stumbled upon this one:

Visions of Eight - Henry Mancini (1973)

According to answers.com (http://www.answers.com/topic/visions-of-eight-the-olympics-of-motion-picture-achievement):

This documentary of the 1972 Summer Olympics, held in Munich, is remarkable for bringing eight of the world's most notable film directors to work on it. They are: Milos Forman, Yuri Ozerov, Mai Zetterling, Arthur Penn, Michael Pfleghar, Kon Ichikawa, Claude Lelouch and John Schlesinger. Each director concentrated on events that were of interest to him and filmed in his own style. For instance, Foreman focused on the comic aspect of the games; Lelouch kept his sights on the losers rather than the winners; and Mai Zetterling examined obsession in the form of weightlifting. The movie does not attempt to comprehensively document the '72 Olympics and does not aim for a unified vision. Instead, it showcases the talents of these directors under the inspiration of this most dramatic of gatherings.

The first one is an unofficial release:

Koala - Australia 2000

Back cover:

I did hear one track from this album before. It's pretty much all dance music.

The next one is an official Sydney 2000 release as it has the logo on the cover:

Olympic Arts Festival

It's a 2CD set featurig classical music.

Hard to believe that ten years ago today, Sept 15, the Sydney Olympic Summer Games began. Wow does time fly! Well done Sydney! You still got one of the best games to date.

Having said that, does anyone happen to have the "A Day In the Life of Sydney" track from the handover segment in Atlanta? Someone posted it earlier in the thread, but the file didn't work.

I was doing some searching around for additional Torino 2006 music, for which there was very little released, and I stumbled upon this interesting entry on this blog:
Torino 2006 Olympic Games Blog (http://www.torino2006blog.com/item/48)

The official Olympic anthem 'VA'
'Va' is the name of the official song for the games, written by the famous singer / songwriter (at least in Italy...) Claudio Baglioni. 'Va' in Italian basically means Go! and the upcoming English version will not surprisingly be titled 'Go'. According to the Toroc, the Torino organizing committee, the song will play a central part in the opening ceremony on the 10th February where the Maestro Baglioni will conducta symphonic orchestra and a choir of 120 singers performing his anthem. He has previously also written the anthem for the Swimming World Championship in 1994 with the song 'Acqua nell'Acqua' (something like 'Water in water') and the Football World Championship in 1998 'Da me a te' ('From me to you').
The question remains though, if the Italians need more than a song to evoke the somewhat lacking passion for the upcoming games. At least they now have an anthem to be inspired by.

VA'
COME MUSICA
CHE CI ILLUMINA
FUOCO DELLA VITA
BAGNA L'ANIMA
LUNGO LA SALITA

Go,
like the music
which illuminates us,
The fire of life
touches the soul
along the climbing road.

As the observant reader may have discovered the song is not particularly revolutionising, but fits nicely into the genre of Olympic Anthems. (I think however, that it lacks clear references to Torino and the Games here, and thus could basically fit any Olympic game!)

Gonna have to keep my eyes (and ears) open for this one.

Go to "Tools". Then "Internet Options". Click the "Security" tab. Click the "Customs Level" button. Scroll down to "Downloads" and select "Enable". Click on OK, and then again on OK.

As a reply to an earlier question in regards to the piece *earth rise* from the Atlanta ceremonies. The piece is actually one of the bits of music used in two Olympic ceremonies, the Atlanta closing and the Salt lake closing.
In the Atlanta ceremony it was used just before the spectators performed the card stunt which revealed an Atlanta olive wreath which *crowned* the athletes . It was around the time *reach* was performed.

In the closing ceremony of Salt Lake, the piece was used as the heliospheres went up into the air, with athletes hanging from them. It's an awesome small piece of music.

1976’s Montreal Olympics was the first to ever have an original soundtrack for it various ceremonies. Andre Matthieu was an all but forgotten Canadian child prodigy whose music was transcribed/interpolated by Victor Vogel. During the opening ceremony the television hosts could not keep their mouths shut, commenting more on the incredible music than the spectacle in the stadium.

Recently there has been a resurgence of Mathieu’s lush, romantic (with curious, mysterious, emotional anecdotes attached) music. The second movement of his 4th piano concerto is the stand out source for the ‘March of the Athletes’ (occasionally with a 70’s funk twist).

I have two copies of this soundtrack on vinyl but have failed to properly transfer them to CD, knowing full well ‘Polydor’ will never bother to do so. Thus I wonder, has anyone else refurbished this LP and has it available sans clicks & pops? Some years ago I had two different LPs transferred by a company found on the Internet that did an immaculate job- but have since forgotten the name and Url.

Ahhhh, my non-tsk-tsker!

I had two compilation LPs by a famous film composer- and as the legend goes, someone entered the studio vaults and walked off with the master tapes. Hence I had my copies 'professionally remastered', declicked & depopped by a most excellent service discovered via the Internet. The results were so startling fine that I swear the sound was better than if the music had been pressed on compact disc from the original tapes.

Today people not only have their own software for doing such things (though I remain dubious about quality) as well as turntables- however my own was dumped over 20 years ago.

I still have these 1976 LPs (one for back up, I dimly remember).

Nevertheless, for the novelty, I suggested locating the Mathieu 4th piano concerto on ANALEKTA label and be bowled over when you hear the music from the 1976 Olympics within.

As the story goes, after a recent performance of the concerto the pianist was approached by an elder woman with a paper sack. She claimed to have been the composer's last lover and she had private recordings that Mathieu had made, which she felt the pianist should now own. The bag was passed, her name was never offered, and she quickly disappeared.

I wish I had the ability to tidy up my own Lps (I have only 4- having tossed out the rest long ago). And I wish I could upload these marvelous albums that contain suites composed & conducted by this very famous film composer- which I had remastered to near perfection. I was told the copyright had run out, refuse to make profit, yet still would like to share. Just am clueless about this downloading/uploading music biz.

Another anecdote: I was working at the perfidious computer while the radio played... when I heard this music, glanced up as years seemed to melt away when recognizing the tunes, which turned out to be the 2nd movement of Mathieu's piano concerto. I had a friend make a (sadly crappy) copy of the 1972 Lp and sent it as well as my information to the Public Radio station. The knowledge was never passed on to the host of the program... and for all I know the pianist who has become the grand advocate of Mathieu's work probably is also lacking in this bit of 'ancient trivia'.

I do remember watching all of this play out on the television and wished that Jim MacKay would just SHUT UP about the music so we could HEAR MORE of the music. Ahhhh.... nostalgia. (and people at Public Radio should be clobbered)

Ballet 'Homage To The Athletes' Rock Movement is a frightening reminder of that Love Boat, Fantasy Island, ChiPs musical rut we were in back in 1976.

That is the CURSE of the 70s- along with bad hair cuts & clothes. Probably the ONLY film score with that 70's 'funk' sound that I enjoy entirely is from the original TAKING OF PELHAM 1, 2, 3. It works in that gritty, fun film. Yet the 'funk' sound even shows of in the score for A MAN CALLED HORSE which doesn't fit big time.

This is the mistake that is commonly made in film production & music- ignoring the possibility of longevity. Blade Runner, though made in the 1980s, remains a testament to the future by its reflection of the 1940s past. Doctor Zhivago, while admitted a fine film, is lamented today by its production staff for the attention to detail except for the make up & hair for the women which will always look like the 1960s.

Thus when Hitchcock fired Herrmann on Torn Curtain because he was not, as requested, inserting 'pop themes or a song' shot himself in the foot in multiple fashions. Herrmann was the very 'sound' of the director's films, elevating even those which were sadly on the decline.

There's a promo song Coke did for the 2012 games that's now floating around online. Called "Anywhere in the World" by Mark Ronson feat. Katy B. I guess it's available for free thru sites like icoke.

An article on Yahoo about the music they will be using during the 2012 Games in London:
London wants music to rock the Games, not wreck them - Yahoo! Eurosport UK (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/london-wants-music-rock-games-not-wreck-them-162121748--nba.html)
Apparently they'll be using a total of 2012 songs. I wonder if they are planning to release any more official albums, for instance, music from the opening and closing ceremonies?

1 month to go!

I'm actually not sure if David Arnold is doing the ceremonies. Looks like the Opening ceremony album has only 8 tracks. I guess some of these will be long orchestral compositions.
*Edited* Just found this page with more info about the ceremony albums:
http://www.backstagepass.biz/2012/07/london-2012-opening-closing-ceremony.html

Some more London 2012 official tracks out there circulating:
Youtube - Good Life by Delphic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCupFe9rEYc)
Youtube - Velodrome Theme by The Chemical Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-abq9dlJKU)

Altogether there are 4 or 5 official songs (including Survival by Muse). Apparently one of these is an Elton John song.

In addition to the opening and closing ceremony albums there's a number of Official London 2012 songs, being released as singles. The first of these is Survival by Muse which is already available. They're all not available yet but here is what I think is the complete list and they're release dates:
Survival by Muse - now available
Good life by Delphic - now available
Velodrome Theme by The Chemical Brothers - available today
Scream by Dizzee Rascal ft. Pepper - available August 5
I'm not sure if this is a complete list though. I read online that an Elton John song was amongst these, but I have no idea what the title is.
Would be great if someone found Good Life and Velodrome Theme.

I'm not even sure if these will be released as a physical EP CD or not.

This was a splendid opening ceremony which I saw outside on a huge TV screen between a ruined castle and a McDonald's. The highlight for me was to see the Queen (aged 86) in her first acting role. I wonder if saying "Good evening Mr Bond" will get her into the IMDb! The London Symphony Orchestra were brilliant as always and
Evelyn Glennie drumming in good form despite being profoundly deaf.

That Coca Cola is absolutely laughable. The first time I heard it in a commercial I thought it was a parody of some sorts.

2. Call to All Nations
3. Summon the Heroes
4. Four Ruffles and Flourishes, Hail to the Chief
5. The Star Spangled Banner (live)
6. Strike Up The Band
7. Welcome to the World (live)
8. Missing Track
9. The River
10. The Storm
11. The Tradition of the Games
12. Call to All Nations - Return of the Olympic Spirits
13. The Run Through Time

15. Simple Gifts
16. Olympic Hymn
17. Missing Track
18. Ode to Joy

Does your version have a large crack in the track "Grace" by Quincy Jones?
The version linked to in one of the first posts has, and it's one of my favorite tracks.

Did anyone watched yesterday the women's all-around gymnastic finals?

As you know there's always a musical accompaniment in the women's floor exercise, but the fun fact is that it was used more than once music from movies. One of the Japanese gymnasts did it with a medley playing the James bond theme and the Pink Panther theme. And there was another, i think it was one of the Russians, in which she did the floor with a theme from the last of the mohicans score.
That was pretty cool to see (and hear!).

I haven't seen the whole competition, probably there was not used more themes from movies. Yet i recognized a theme that was from a Pink Floyd song :D

Longshot, but here goes. There's this little snippet or edit to the Williams's Bugler's Dream on NBC's primetime showing (usually after the scenic aerial clips of the host nation and after Bob Costas finishes his preview for the night's schedule), usually accompanied by some fancy video editing and the London logo coming up at the end. Anyone know if this is available anywhere or if it's just an NBC cue?

Edit: Found a clip that should help. 2000 Olympics Sydney NBC Intro (9.16.00) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAbJejOZIBk), at the 1:33-1:53 mark.

solid_ace, the track is titled "Prime Time Tease", recorded for the NBC broadcast of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. If you can access/download binaries, search alt.binaries.sounds.tv or alt.binaries.sounds.tv-themes for the title and you'll find a broadcast CD featuring the track as well as other great pieces, including "Contemporary Tease" (THE highlight of the bunch IMO).

Someone requested the Vancouver 2010 ceremony music. I'm trying to put together a complete playlist for the opening. There is one piece of music I want to add to it. I know it's on Youtube in the official IOC channel of the opening ceremonies, but I don't know how to rip it from that video. It starts at about the 1:48:48 mark and goes to about the 1:51 mark, features the woman singing that's playing the harp, starts with the Donald Sutherland narration. Thanks for that complete list! It's amazing how much I missed due to the broadcast being tied-up with either commentary or switching to commercials. At some point the IOC should be uploading the entire OC without commentary and commercials to their Youtube channel ( they do have the entire ceremonies for Vancouver on Youtube). Yeah, I love that part, too. Four years after I started looking for that, I found it in two videos. I have the newer version (whose first two notes sound much closer to where they should be) in lossless, but it has SFX from the direct TV recording. Want it? You'll have to wait a week, though. Parade Of The Athletes is easily the best piece of music David Arnold has ever written, full stop. The guy is still full of themes. How disappointing and disgusting that his symphonic contributions to the closing ceremony totalled just six minutes, and that the studio system isn't allowing him to write glorious music like this for film any more.

Im downloading one in 320 AAC. I think, finally I will purchase... :(

Thank you anyway.

Best regards.

Oh yes, I know that torrent. If you purchase it, could you share it in HQ? Possibly lossless?
