http://www.macnn.com/articles/10/03/03/teaser.hints.at.portal.team.fortress.2/

The teaser images were released several days ago, along with some OSX files being found in the Steam source code. It was officially announced today or yesterday or something. Like with Portal 2 (Thread 74542) (and hopefully Ep. 3), more news will come out at GDC next week.

Update: Valve has announced Steam will release for Macs on May 12. I don't know if this means all the Source games will be ready by then or not, though.

This is out tomorrow/today I don't know what the time is in the US. Torchlight and Tripwire games (Killing Floor and Red Orchestra) are out on the release date as well, I think.

Edit: It has been released. Portal is free until the 24th. I think if you download it before then you get to keep it forever, maybe.

Chewey - you beat me to it. Just saw a friend posted about Free Portal on Facebook and was just about to post it.

In any case, offer appears to apply to PC users as well. I already scored my free copy by creating an account and choosing to "buy" it, but still haven't downloaded it because I did that on my office-provided laptop :P. Hope I can get my new rig up before then and sample some Portal goodness, just in case they won't let you keep it forever.

And Neg: CREATE A MAC STEAM ACCOUNT AND GRAB PORTAL, NAO!

Who says "no thank you" to a free copy of one of the most innovative games released in the last few years?

I used to believe in you, man. You changed...

But have you played portal?? I know they have the orange box for ps3, so you might have...

Anyway, if you haven't, you should give it a shot. The game is really fun, and if your computer can't run it very well, the game was free and it didn't matter. Either way, the game came out a few years ago, so you don't need anything incredible to run it.

Neg: If it's because the PS3 version of The Orange Box irked you in the past:

Mang, it's because the PS3 port was a hackjob by EA to sucker a few dollars out of unsuspecting console players after licensing the rights from Valve, so say TV Tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PortingDisaster). The PC version is NOT done by EA.

On the other hand, seeing how Valve would port the game to the 360 themselves but refused to do the port for the PS3... I can see where your pain and hatred for Valve is coming from.

Yeah Valve hates the PS3 because it's hard to code for. In fact Gabe Newell said: "The PS3 is a disaster on so many levels. I think it's clear that Sony lost track of customers and developers wanted." That in 2007 though. I still remember the joy when I read Valve saying that they will be developing for the PS3 in the future. That statement was in February 2010.

I don't know why people who profess to enjoy video games say this

It's like saying "no" to fun

ashin owes me $10

But really, "I don't care about PC gaming" makes about as much sense as "I don't want to open threads in new tabs because it clutters the tab bar."

Why must you be so retarded?

PC gaming is perfect for two things specifically, FPS & RTS...

The rest experiences are better on consoles IMO.

Maybe it's that thing that happens when everyone seems to like something so you roll your eyes at it but then you try it years later and you break out into giggles at the clever humour but when you see your peers again you try to be cool and say how you found your own appreciation for it when you really mean it lived up to the hype.

Well, if you decide to try it, rent it. It's just not worth paying money to the evil publishing house who's out to screw consumers, especially console owners, on many levels. Especially with a substandard, crappy, PS3-abusing, poor excuse of a port like this one. I mean, wtf is it doing that the PS3 runs it at shitty frame rates?

You can also just use a ps3 controller with the supplied usb cable, but you have to use a third party driver.

(they have a guide that you should probably look at if you install)

Either way, I think neg already has a mac driver for the ps3 controller.

TF2 has been ported to OS X and it is half price until Monday. You can also play the game for free over the weekend, if you like. This applies to both Windows and OS X players.

Any OS X players that play the game before Monday will be rewarded with iPod earphones to wear in-game.

Half Life 2 (including both episodes) was ported like two weeks ago, but I figured not too many people would be fussed about that so I didn't mention it.

Well, I just figured that there's not much to gain from that. The PS2 controller works beautifully enough in Portal save for Portal's epic failure to use the D-Pads for strafe/look functions despite being configured to do so. I still have to reach for the mouse every now and then.
