There is no other information on the internet yet other than what's available in the news tab on steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/news/3559/
Random letters are underlined here. I don't know if this is normal for steam news articles or if there's some kind of hidden message here. :x

If you've been following the Portal mystery this week that followed this update:

Updates to Portal have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.

Portal
Changed radio transmission frequency to comply with federal and state spectrum management regulations

and later, this:

Updates to Portal have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.

Portal
Added valuable asset retrieval

this shouldn't really come as a suprise. In case you're unaware of what's happened, Valve updated Portal on the 2nd of March by adding in several radios and different sounds they all play. Internet detectives on the steam forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1168990) soon converted these sounds into images, some of which clearly resembled GLaDOS, Chell and other Portal type things. The images also revealed a BBS number that revealed something (I forget) when called.

The second update added in a new ending to Portal, in which Chell (valuable asset) was dragged away from the wreckage by a robot. I'm sure you'll find it easily enough if you google for it.

Update: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/03/05/april-cover-revealed.aspx

Update 2: It's been confirmed that Portal 2 will have a co-op mode. It's coming to 360 and PC (no word about a PS3 release yet).

So, yeah. That's all I've got for you. More will be announced at GDC next week, maybe?

LET'S HOPE PORTAL 2 AND EPISODE 3 ARE THE SAME THING

DO IT ALREADY VALVE

Portal 2 and Episode 3 being one game wouldn't really work. Unless it competely undermined the original portal. Let's face it, if they were the same thing the portal gun would be underused and contrived.

Portal 2 should be similar to the first but have it more behind the scenes like the last level of the first one. That level was creepy and awesome and so many other things.

Turns out the underlined words were a username and password for the BBS.

You'll find a lot more information than I can give in this thread:
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=20574171

or on the portal sub-forums on steam.

Yeah, and I don't see how that would undermine the first Portal.

I think it would undermine the first portal because a)Portal is a puzzle game b)if half life and portal combined the portal gun will either be underused, or contrived. I can't see any point in usng it in the half life games, especially since they're mostly outside. Unless you set it mostly in doors. Also it would allow for glitching, the portal missions were designed to test you and make you solve the puzzle. Unless that was incorporated into the game it just wouldn't work. It would be like combining Tetris and Halo.

Half-Life 2 has a lot of puzzles. The end of Half-Life 2 Episode 2 also has Gordon set off to find the Aperture Science vessel. It seems likely to me that Episode 3 and Portal 2's stories are going to connect here. However, with the announcement of Portal 2, they also announced the co-op mode which has an entirely separate story.

Could this be Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance's story?

Anyway, the game wouldn't have to revolve around the portal gun, but clearly they could work it into several puzzles like they did with the gravity gun.

Also - and I know this is a weak argument - Chell is clearly outside on those covers found at http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/03/05/april-cover-revealed.aspx
Actually, maybe it's a good argument. It's pretty obvious Chell got out of the test chamber at the end of the original Portal, so working Portal puzzles into the outside is probably what they'd have to do anyway.

So yeah

GDC

Woohoo! Portal 2 announced for PC. Xbox 360 and Macintosh!

Really I'm surprised Valve decided for the Mac over the PS3 but yeah. If my Xbox worked I'd get it for that. I got to play the first one that came with Orange Box. A couple words.

AWESOME GAME!!11

Can't wait. I only had ME2 and Alpha Protocol to really look forward to this year.

But Portal is the business.

love the way it was teased. I wish more devs were clever outside of game design. or allowed to as the case may be...

Valve really hate the PS3. I wouldn't count on them porting it over to that console. Perhaps EA will pick it up like they did with the Orange Box, though.

Anyway, I imagine they'd much prefer working with OpenGL instead of the PS3.

Also, I have scans from that magazine thingo. I'll edit them in soon.

Hmm, probably too big to post in image tags.

By the looks of it, the game is set in another test chamber :( I haven't actually... read all those pages, so I'm not sure if they mention the co-op campaign. Hopefully not! Still hoping for Ep 3 there.

Also, I hear Valve have once again incorporated an idea from the DigiPen crew (Portal was based on their game Narbacular Drop (https://www.digipen.edu/fileadmin/website_data/gallery/game_websites/NarbacularDrop/)). This time, we'll see influence from their game Tag (https://www.digipen.edu/?id=1170&download=1506).

Why do valve hate the PS3?

They say it's "needlessly complicated" and maybe so, but frankly I think they just don't need PS3 for anything.

to be fair, they don't much like 360 either. it's just easier to port to than PS3

"A bad carpenter blames his tools" comes to mind.

That just reeks of laziness to be honest, even rubbish game developers make PS3 games.

That's deep.

Also, VALVe has been on record several times expressing their hatred for the PS3's programing architecture.

They're fine devs and well within their rights to ignore PS3 if they so wish

They problem is they don't know when to stfu

Of course. Valve are very good. I loved Portal and the half-life games are some of the best FPS's I've played. Still doesn't change the fact that bad developers make games for PS3 without complaining all the time.
