Although I greatly appreciate this post and thank the poster, I'd like to say that La-La Land Records is a small record company created by movie music enthusiasts trying their best to publish rare quality stuff. So if you really appreciate this, I greatly encourage you to buy it so they can publish more of this kind.

This has actually already sold out! So La-La land have made as much on it as they hoped. Mars Attacks is still available however - but probably not for long!

Ah I greatly agree with this post! I would have considered purchasing it myself after having taken the time to listen, which it seems i still have not the time to do. You might notice that the North and South collection i posted some time ago has yet to sell out.

Maybe so. Seeing how it's sold out, I see no harm in posting it. (Granted, the FSM folks think they're the almighty soundtrack gods who have control over the universe, so there's no point trying to argue the point with them, but screw it, I'm sick of their BS.) So if anyone wants to use this link while it's up, feel free. Or if you want to PM Babydoll, that works too. :)

Thanks so much for the repost! Small rant: I think it's pretty lousy of folks to package "limited editions" of art; that's so counter to what art is supposed to be about. Imagine if Shakespeare had "limited edition" plays that only a few thousand people could enjoy. I think that business model is silly when it comes to soundtracks. Package the soundtrack & price it reasonably (unlike the new Danny Elfman box set - $500? Really?) and people will buy it. My two cents....

Funny you mention Danny Elfman. I have never been a hug fan of his anyhow. All of his stuff sounds the same as if some half insane eight year old got a hold of a baton. The constant up and down notes drive me crazy and he, like many of the contemporary composers really don't write music and themes so much as moods.

As for limited editions, I ave had conversations with some of these album producers and their take is interesting. In many cases they can only afford to make a deal for a limited edition as part of an agreement with the musicians union. If they go over 1000 units or two or three thousand then they have to pay a tremendous amount of money for what is, let's face it , a very small market. Most orchestral soundtracks only sell a couple of thousand units so we need to continue to support those labels that put them out there. We are lucky to have them no matter how draconian they can be. I agree though that once a title is sold out one should be free to share it. Also, many of us are in no position to spend the extra money in this economy. I for one, am thankful.

Thanks for explaining the process; it makes more sense now. I wonder if the artist would make more if they made the albums available as digital downloads on Amazon/Itunes instead of the limited edition CDs...maybe more of us would buy rather than share? Of course, the soundtrack collectors marketplace is more interested in CDs.

I appreciate your point about Elfman; in my humble opinion, his recent works don't have the impact of his classic works such as Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman, and the Beetlejuice main theme. I'd be happy to pay $100.00 for a box set, but $500.00 is too much.

Such a wonderful release for a great score. The ZAZ team really knew how much a good score would help their style of comedy - see also Maurice Jarre's "Top Secret". Thanks to John Landis for convincing Elmer Bernstein (for "Animal House") that he could do comedies ...or we would have missed out on so much (like "Stripes" or "Spies Like Us" which is one of the really great Bernstein scores).
