Notes
Composer Jerry Goldsmith's original score was removed by the studio after the first round of test screenings. In an effort to appeal to "the kids," executives commissioned Tangerine Dream to create a replacement. Goldsmith's original score was heard only with the film's European release.

When it came time to assemble the full director's cut, the original session masters for the Jerry Goldsmith score could not be located. However, Mike Ross-Trevor of Hit Factory Studios in London had kept a 2-track digital copy, mixed down from 8-track session masters, which he knew "would be worth preserving." Most of these tapes contained complete takes, which had to be re-edited from scratch to match the cues in the recut print.

This score technically wasn't rejected. The International version has "always" featured Goldsmith's score.

Thanks for this. Haven't watched the film with Goldsmith's score yet, so I'm going to do that before listening to it on it's own.

Haven't seen the film in forever, though, so I don't even remember what Tangerine Dream's score sounded like.

I have never seen the European version with Goldsmith's score but I would like to. I have TD's version but I can't post it because it's on Varese Sarabande.

Odd. I always thought the Silva Screen release of this score remains the best. It certainly remains, to my tastes, Goldsmith's masterpiece. His homage to Ravel. Some do not like the synthesizer but doesn't bother me. Ridley Scott (the 'great friend' to all film composers) commented on the DVD that Goldsmith's score WAS THE BEST and he regretted dumping it. Then again, you get the sense that Scott didn't know where he was going with this film or whom it was aimed at. Visually it is stunning, story-wise it is complete and utter garbage. Goldsmith's music couldn't have saved it. Yet remains unique, in a sense, since this is not a musical but has the heroine singing. Don't quite understand the 2 disc thingee here. Guess I will have to check out these 'alternate' takes.

Eu no conhecia esta gravao de Legend. Eu tenho a OST Edition Silva Screen 1 CD & Soundtrack Complete 2CD ambas de 1985. Deve ser muito interessante. Obrigado.

Think it's the same one I'd uploaded here:
Thread 118745
There are still a few missing tracks like the one where Jack is looking up at the small ray of sunlight after the fight with the giants. That came from the main title of Psycho 2 also from Goldsmith himself.
