Now I know this question has probably been beaten to death, but this has been annoying the crap outta me lately. Let me explain first before anyone dubs me an idiot.

As you can see with the included picture, I have entered the northern crater and thus far only got to the area where there is a huge hole in the ground with little steps going down to fight jenova/sephiroth. Thats where I met up again with my party. I declined to go down and went back up to get out of the northern crater when I encountered the above scene.

Now I know I came down from that path. But no matter how many angles, how many times I engage the "ladder", how many buttons I try to mash at the same time, how slow I go into it or even how fast I try to go into it, I cant seem to get onto that ladder to get the hell outta there. I only went in to get the w-magic and level up and then come back out to beat the weapons and get cloud's limit break.

Anyone have any ideas or tricks to get me out? Thanks in Advance.

Edit: Im playing the PC version.

I have heard that there is a possible bug in that area which may practically seals off access to that ladder once you pass it, but that was with the PSX version, not the PC. I have noticed though in my version of FFVII PC at times it's hard to climb up or down ladders, but I chalked it up to my control pad being out of sync.

The only thing I can think of is when you got to the very bottom, if you spoke to your party members at the bottom it might have changed it so you could not return to the Highwind, forcing you to finish the game. But that's just a wild stab in the dark. Either way, all I can suggest is keep trying to climb the ladder and maybe you might get lucky. If all else fails though you might have to reload an earlier save and head through the crater again.

See the problem I think revolved around that specific area at the bottom where I met my party for the 2nd time. Simply deduced from what I've experienced, that seems to be the only logical explanation that is keeping me from returning to the highwind.

I've tried every single control option, every single button, every single angle, every single walk/sprint, but I cant seem to touch that ladder, its as if it doesnt exist anymore there.

Unfortunately, I the dumbass that didnt make multiple saves, I just save over and over again on the same save. So I cant go back on any earlier tries. This is what kills me the most. Is there any way to fix this or get around this retarded restriction?

Hmm, all I can really suggest is to use a save file trainer program such as the JENOVA program to hack your party into a different location (like back on board the Highwind). It's not without risk though, as the file might become unstable and glitchy, so I'd recommend backing up the save file first before doing so.

If you'd still like to give this a go, JENOVA can be found here: www.qhimm.com (it's the same place you can get the XP Chocobo Patch from).

Otherwise, there's nothing else I could really suggest sadly, short of starting again from scratch, not a desirable choice given all those hours you've already spent would be wasted.

Polloloco, this exact same thing happened to me in my last run out (and I also created a topic about it - somewhere). I abandoned all hope after a while and recalled the same thing happened years before on a previous run. I beleive what causes the 'glitch' is sending all of your party members in one direction. I recall idly pressing 'X' through the dialogue as I have seen it countless times before, and the result of course that 'Left' (Or possibly 'right') is selected on each character.

There is no way around it. Hours of gametime down the pan I am afraid. And it puts you off playing for another year or so. Just remember not to make the same mistake next time out.

EDIT - Thread 57254 - No one was particularly helpful on that thread.
