Well, I'm not sure exactly how tough this is, but once you complete all of the Hunts for people in Nalbina, Jovy declares that Vaan is his "new hero." Who was Jovy's old hero? It's not said specifically, but the game gives you more than enough hints to noodle it out.

Slavka

Early in the game, when you first visit Giza Plains, what is the name of the boy who is lost from the camp?

Slavka

wolfmaster913

In the tutorial level (Reks's playable part), it is possible to unlock some of the Sky Pirate's Den rewards. Which ones can you get?

Smarty
12-25-2009, 10:48 AM
Cool Question.
I'm assuming you can get Basch, Balthier, Fran because they only involve attacking and casting spells, which Reks can do. Chocobo should also be on the table because he can run too, although I don't remember whether it counts the steps that early. Hmmm I say Ashe too, because if he reaches lvl 50 the average lvl of the party, which consists only of him, would be 50. Oh yeah Montblanc too because there are only Imperials there and can be chained. Um that's all I can think of right now.

wolfmaster913
12-25-2009, 12:48 PM
Holy crap! You got all of them except for Penelo (receive more than 100,000 gil), so I will go ahead and give it to ya. Penelo, Balthier, Fran, Basch, and Montblanc can all be obtained at this point, however, I really don't know about Ashe. I believe you have to use permanent characters for her's, though I don't want to spend the time to find out if Reks can get it or not. Also, I don't think that the Chocobo's steps start counting until you get Vaan.

I'm going to say the Henne Mines? It DOES contain the ultimate weapon the Zodiac Spear... though I didn't fully understand the question...

Zak
12-26-2009, 04:11 AM
The question was pretty vague because it's arguable what's valuable.

I know that aside from the Zodiac Spear, the last area of the Henne Mines does contain a whole lot of chests in the last screen with rare valuable items.

But since that's already been said and I think I have a slightly better answer, I'm gonna guess the Cerobi Steppe. Every chest there has a very rare chance at a valuable item.

Smarty
12-26-2009, 02:03 PM
Zak got it right it's the Cerobi Steppe. I don't think my question was vague since I mentioned the most treasures, not the most valuable treasure, although I didn't highlight it, which if I knew would cause so much confusion I would have.

The Henne Mines do too have many valuable treasures including the Zodiac Spear, but the Cerobi Steppe has so much more. About 8-10 in every area.
Your question Zak.

Zak
12-26-2009, 03:23 PM
I understood your question, I know it was about quantity as in the amount of chests containing valuable items, but what I meant about it being vague is that it's debatable whether somethings would be considered "valuable" I mean, some are obvious, but... oh well, at least I got it.

Okay, I have an interesting question.

What's the earliest point in the game, story-wise, where you can technically obtain the Tournesol? As in, what's the last mandatory thing you have to do before it becomes technically possible for the Tournesol to be made, without moving further along and limiting yourself to what's already open?

I'm looking for a very very specific point. Some of you might not believe me about the answer...

Smarty
12-26-2009, 05:05 PM
I read a perfect game FAQ a long time ago which explained how to get all items as early as possible and I'm gonna take a guess as to why.

I remember that the earliest time it can be obtained is before Giruvegan. One of the ingredients required for Serpentarius(one of the Tournesol's ingredients) is a Serpent Eye.
Here comes what I think you're asking. The Serpent Eye can be obtained from the snakes(Basilisks i think they're called?) in the lower part of the Feywood, which is blocked by Mist. That Mist goes away when it comes time to visit Giruvegan, giving you access to the snakes and their eyes. Am I right?

Zak
12-26-2009, 07:36 PM
Good guess, but not quite then.

I won't say if it's earlier or later though.

the high seraph
12-26-2009, 08:31 PM
After reaching the Phon coast isn't it?
You can poach the Serpent eyes from the Grey Molter, which appears in the Mosphoran Highwaste in the secret part of Empryean way that can only be reached using those shrines that are only usable when you reach there

Zak
12-26-2009, 09:03 PM
the high seraph, great guess, but not quite it.

But everything you said about Serpent Eyes and when the shrines start working is true, Serpent Eyes from the Grey Molter does indeed work, and the shrines do start to work after the Phon Coast gate is fixed.

However, that's not quite the earliest point for the Tournesol (again, not saying whether it's too early or too late).

Keep thinking...

Zak

Nope... and, well, Smarty, it's not exactly the same thing, because what you said would imply "after Rafflesia" as well.

I suppose...

And I really think you should give this one up. Personally I've been searching the whole internet for clues on what you may be asking. At first, it was just out of curiosity and I figured if I did find the answer I wouldn't post it. But I honestly can't figure out what you want to hear! This is a nice question indeed.
I actually thought that the high seraph got it right. But after you said it wasn't, I really don't know what you may be asking.

Slavka
12-28-2009, 11:47 PM
I'm going to say after receiving Lente's Tear - this is the earliest time you can reach Paramina Rift to get Damascus Steel from Anchag. And obviously, this is after obtaining the Dawn Shard, which means that Mosphoran and beyond is also open.

Zak
12-28-2009, 11:52 PM
Soon :)

And I'm not giving this one up, seeing as a lot of you seem to be thinking on the right track and one of the guesses was really close.

And what I'm looking for is simply what the last mandatory event/boss/foot-setting-in thing you have to do, before everything you need to make the Tournesol becomes available on an infinite level (as opposed to Hunt rewards, I mean, you get a Serpent Eye after beating Marlith, but that's not good enough as it's only one). Like in your "before Giruvegan" guess, "after Rafflesia" would have been what I was looking for, since you need to do that to access that part of the Feywood, which is a little different from merely "after Draklor".

But anyway Smarty, keep searching whatever it is. Considering the guesses that have been submitted so far, I do have faith that someone will get it. It's just, this is the kind of question I'd rather avoid giving hints on unless asked something.

EDIT: Slavka, good thinking, but incorrect... you're missing something... not gonna say if it's too early or too late.

Slavka
12-29-2009, 07:22 PM
Hmm. In that case, I would say straaight after Draklor, since that's the time the Phon Coast Hunt Club becomes available, and you need Vorres, a trophy rare game, to appear for the Soul Powder. But since that's already been taken...

Where else can you get Soul Powder? Ixtab, but that's only one. Even if I get the Empyreal Soul from Montblanc, in which case I need to obtain the High Guardian clan rank, I still need to make two more, each requiring Soul Powder...

Eh, I give up for now. Maybe I'll get a brainwave later.

You're in VERY hot water, and this is almost the correct answer, but you're wrong about one thing. I won't say what, but everything you stated in this post is true except for one thing. I'll probably give it to you if no one corrects it since you've got part of it.

But since you're so close, I'll give a hint. It can be made at some point BEFORE Draklor.

I might give it to you if no one gets it.

No, keep thinking... you can get the Sandalwood chop before Draklor but it has nothing to do with the Hunt Club.

Smarty
12-30-2009, 01:27 PM
I'm positive that this has something to do with the Soul Powders. Everything else can be obtained long before Giruvegan or Draklor or whatever.
Hey are you sure you need to visit the Hunt Club owner to make Trophy RG's appear? Because I think I remember fighting Aspidochelon on Cerobi Steppe before I visited him.

Zak
12-30-2009, 03:12 PM
I believe you do have to visit the Hunt Club owner to make them appear. You won't get any trophies before getting Thalassinon's.

But yeah, you are all very warm.

For the record Slavka missed the fact that Soul Powders can be gotten infinitely from Etems as well, which are obviously way later in the part of the Henne Mines you can't go until you have 10 Espers, so obviously not that. But yes, that, Vorres, and Ixtab hunt (which is limited so not qualified for this question) are the only ways to get Soul Powder.

But, when exactly is the earliest? You are all missing something BIG... though judging from your posts and Slavka's, my guess would be that you simply didn't know this. As I promised I'll state the answer in a few hours.

Zak
12-31-2009, 12:39 AM
Okay, as it has been 24 hours... I'll tell the answer.

You guys are correct about Soul Powder's being the last thing to become available and mark the earliest point, because everything else, a few of which were guessed, can mostly be accessed on an infinite level after the Dawn Shard, after Lente's Tear (Damascus Steel or Hell's Gate Flame), and after the Phon Coast gate is repaired (Serpent Eye, that's when the shrines become active and you can reach Grey Molter).

And since Slavka was the first to mention that fact that you need Vorres, I'll give her the question. As I said, she was correct about the limited ways to obtain Soul Powder, and you do need to start the Hunt Club event in order to get it to appear.

BUT... none of you (surprisingly) seemed to know when you can start the Hunt Club. It first becomes available not by having been through Draklor, and not by having gotten the Sandalwood Chop either. The Hunt Club first becomes available as soon as you beat the "???" fake mark, that being the Mandragoras in Sochen Cave Palace. And you have to do that anyway. After you beat the Mandragoras, you can backtrack to Phon Coast which isn't too far back, and activate it. Which would mark the earliest Tournesol.

Anyway, Slavka, this is yours.

Okay... this may or may not be something a lot of people already know, but... where can you find an in-game hint about Omega Mark XII, and what you have to do to wake it up?

Ah, I know this one! In the five pages of Clan Primer info you get for defeating Urutan Yensa, a series of documents details an inventor's work on Mimics, one of which (Mk XII) disappears. It is mentioned that the man who hired this inventor wanted him to create something to defeat a great wrym (Yiazmat). Omega Mk XII was created to defeat Yiazmat, and therefore awakes when the Yiazmat contract is activated and Yiazmat is released.

01-08-2010, 10:52 PM
Battle gear in Nalbina (Intro)
Prisoner gear in Nalbina Dungeon/Barheim (1st time in Barheim)
Fresh outfit in Lowtown after getting back to Rab from Barheim (where he joins your party)
The ending cinema where he is guarding Larsa (in his brothers place)

I think that's it, but it feels like I'm missing one.

Could it be that he switches armor from the intro/war room they're in, and the scene were Rasler dies? Or the playable dungeon with Reks.....although I think I'm missing something in the later parts of the game.

Slavka

He does switch between the intro/war room and the playable prologue with Reks, I'll give you that. There is one more though...

The one that's missing is the outfit that uses in barheim when he tells you the story about what really happened at the intro.
Remember, Shirtless first, then the one that uses when you find the corpse at barheim.

Doesn't Knot of Rusts (depending on how many are in your inventory) increase the damage of one of the Espers? I have no idea which one, but it's one of the optional ones.

I really need to get back to my save file.

Smarty
01-26-2010, 06:21 AM
Espers that can break the dmg limit, I think they are: Zeromus, Zodiark, Ultima, Chaos.

Also: Can't poison do that against enemies with REALLY high hp? In theory it should.

the high seraph
01-26-2010, 06:28 PM
Shemhazai and Exodus can break it with their final attacks also. Ultima and Chaos can't I don't think
Balance can break the damage limit if your HP is low enough and you have bubble on
Numerology can as well if you're lucky
I think Arise also does when the KO'ed character is wearing a bubble belt (Serenity makes it go mega high)
Uh...I can't think what else there could be...unless you'd count Renew...

non-canon sousaphone

The two guys plus Fran you can talk to at Bhujerba during your "I'm Basch blabla" scandal, the sky pirates in the Sandsea and at the Aerodrome right before you fly to Bhujerba, and Penelo in the area near the Sandsea before taking your very first mark (I wonder why I went backwards?:s). I didn't know that Gilgamesh ruled any city

wolfmaster913

In the actual Epic of Gilgamesh, he was the king of Uruk. He was 2/3 god and 1/3 human, and oppressed the people he ruled over until they cried out for help to the gods. The gods create a primitive man, Enkidu, who is covered in hair and lives in the wild with the animals. Enkidu is then taken to a shepherd's camp where he soon becomes the camp's night watchman. While here, he hears of the stuff Gilgamesh is doing and takes off to Uruk to intervene at a wedding. When Gilgamesh is just about to invoke his "lord's right" on the bride, Enkidu blocks his way and the two start to fight. Finally, Enkidu acknowledges Gilgamesh's superior strength, the battle ends, and they become friends.

Is this, perhaps, what you were looking for?

Another Esper related question... Sorry xD

Enkidoh
06-27-2012, 02:47 AM
From what I remember, some of the 'pass FF final boss' Esper names were changed or mistranslated slightly, so I'll add their 'original' names as well next to them:

Chaos (FFI)
Mateus (FFII - apparently this is what Emperor Palamecia's real name is)
Famfrit (FFIII - I've heard this refers to the Cloud of Darkness somehow, but I have no idea if that's true or not. In any event, it was also one of the Totemas from FFTA but I included it here as relevant to this question)
Zeromus (FFIV)
Exodus (FFV - a literal transliteration of 'X-death')
Ultima (FFT - in the original PSX version of FFT 'Altima' was in fact Ultima badly mistranslated)

Szczepan
06-27-2012, 12:57 PM
Very good! That's even more than I've asked for :) Your go Enkidoh :)

That is indeed correct. A Knot of Rust is indeed one of the possible items that can be gained from that urn, but only if you have the Diamond Armlet equipped. Another item you can get with the Armlet equipped is an Ether. Without the Armlet, it's indeed just gil, or otherwise just a Potion or Eye Drops. Interestingly it is an equal 50/50 chance you'll get either one of those items or gil.

Anyway, you got it so your go jfloyd. :)

Well everyone, I will be gone for a while so whoever wants to ask the next question, ask away.
When I get back home I will thoroughly enjoy FFXII again.
