Well guys Im proud to say after a whole night and a whole day of work, i can finally bring you the full complete line in rip of the darkness with all gamemusic intact, i know my last two versions were missing music, but here is the most finale version of the ost, until someone can crack the xbox360 xma format, this will substitute for the gamerip. but its all here, stealth tracks, action tracks, demon versions of the action and stealth tracks. yep this certainly is the whole enchalada of this wonderful game score!!. the only music impossible to get at the moment is the tunnel chase which is wondeful, jenny's death scene and the tank drivethru of the no mans land. but other than that don't let that detour you, because this score blows anyone anyway!!!

I can answer that.... the one I have uploaded there was OrangeC's previous rip of The Darkness... I just mirrored it in that thread. The version here is the updated, final version of his rip. I'm actually taking the links down from my thread now, since that version is now obsolete. Unless, of course, OrangeC would like me to refrain from mirroring his rip.

I found the previous version pretty different from this one! I couldn't find the song entitled as The Darkness Main Theme in this later release though, and the volumes are a bit lower, don't you think? Has the process to rip this pack been different from the way you did to rip the previous version? Does this new pack have all of the previous pack songs??? I'm still a lil' bit confused since I haven't get the whole differences between both of 'em.

Okay first off this version has the main theme but it is a mix suite that plays in the main menu. the other main theme from the previous version i just ripped it off of youtube, which was my mistake because its not actually part of the rip. But this main theme menu mix is just as good.

And yes the volume is not so high because the last rip i did with a diffrent sound card, a rather crappy sound card. but this rip is with x-fi and the volume is normal. its not really that low that you have to turn your volume all the way up.

Just a question: why didn't you put them in?

OrangeC

The whitefish pool hall jazz plays at the end credits. the soldiers harmonica tune i couldn't get it because it was on the same tracks of the sound sfx.

This is awesome. I've been looking for this for quite a while. I've got the main menu music from somewhere, but I couldn't find anything else from the score. This game put me onto The Duskfall and eating hearts. A question though...the files are in 5...6 (I can't be assed going back a page) rar files. Are the music files inside those? Does it need to all be downloaded to oppen it? And are they actual music files, or code?

which part has "Jenny's Theme" in it?

vryc
04-01-2008, 06:11 PM
Great Soundtrack, great rip. Still wondering how the heck Gustaf tracks this stuff? Anyone know what his sequencing set-up is? Does he actually use real guitars or does he have some sort of magical crunchy-guitar sample library not available to us mortals?

Lastly, for Orange. I was wondering why some of the songs (mostly the attack music) abruptly end? Is this a function of ripping them? Is this something that can be addressed?

Anyways, thank you so much for all the effort, it really paid off.

OrangeC
04-01-2008, 06:19 PM
Its because its intended to loop at the end.

And yes gustaf does use real guitars, actually he has sessions with people playing drums and guitar, then i think he takes those essions recordings and puts them over his sampled composed stuff, but yes this score is pretty similiar to his other sutff as far as the composition goes.

vryc
04-01-2008, 07:33 PM
I figured it was because of a loop point, but it seems to cut out (for most of the action tracks) just a hair shy of completing whatever 4-bar is meant to complete the loop. No worries.

Also, the drums must be programmed (sounds just like a DKFH Superior Kit to me) and it sounds like he's got a lot of sampled guitar elements in with some live elements (he most likely reshapes live guitar performances to hit precise points in his sequencer).

OrangeC
04-01-2008, 07:45 PM
Damn i would really like to know what sequencer he uses, because all action track variations are basically the same, track, except they are composed differently.

vryc
04-01-2008, 07:59 PM
Well, based on that screenshot of the man himself on page 2, it looks like he uses Cubase, or it might be a reconfigured Logic, but those screens don't look Mac to me so I'd lean towards Cubase :)

You're right about the tracks all being variations of the same "get-up". Sounds like he just introduces double-time and half-time variations, but it's rediculously well sequenced. Just listening to the drums, I'd imagine that those are the first part that he sequences. It's all chord-based music, there's not really any lead-line (horns, guitar, strings...) that develop a lead. I love some of his chord changes, though.

Is there any way (I know you've done so much already, and thank you) that you could rip that "Mansion Massacre (Dmn Act)" again but this time let it go past the loop point. It cuts out well before that final drum fill has a chance to resolve itself. I can re-edit the track so that it finalizes a little better if you want.

OrangeC
04-01-2008, 08:20 PM
Well what im planning on doing is rerecording all the action tracks and this time merging them into suites, so it has the stealth variations and the action variations into one mp3 file with no disturbances, then fade out at the end. Because if i just merge them now its still gonna be missing some loop points and its gonna disturb the flow.

Another thing is that i have directly ripped the darkness music files off of the 360 but the problem is the files are in XMA format and that curently has no codec. but im waiting until xma in windows is supported in there lates xausio2 release.

Then its gonna be better.

vryc
04-01-2008, 08:42 PM
That's what I did. Made a 22+ minute track with crossfades, hits and swish endings (thanks Audiomachine :)), and created some atmosphere in-between-tracks by combining several of the tracks together ("Trinity Cemetary", Jenny's Theme", and "Fulton Street Station"... dicing and splicing it all), and then gave it a slight db boost. Sounds pretty good but there are still a few problems with the loop points not quite being resolved that I kind of hide with effects.

Anyways, thanks again.

OrangeC
04-01-2008, 09:17 PM

Another peice of music that i really liked was the tunnel chase intro and the tank ride music, but those were mixed in with the sfx and when i turn down the sfx the music goes down too, leaving only silence.

vryc
04-01-2008, 10:42 PM
Well, If you could see your way to re-ripping all four "Mansion Massacre" tracks so that they go beyond 6min, I think that I can effectively reconstitute them into a complete piece with a better beginning and a much better ending (we'll just borrow bits and pieces from other tracks :) as well as a bit of "magicks").

OrangeC

So far XMA 360 audio files are unplayable or unconverterable right now, the only way to convert these is if you have the tool called: XMAencode.exe but thats part of the xbox360 XDK (dev Kit) and you need a license from microsoft to use them.

Do you have the darkness xmafiles on your hard drive also?
