I'm downloading Halo 3 right now from a torrent, for the purpose of future ripping. But it wont be for a while until the community makes reverse engineering tools.

I will be a getting the game soon so i will probably doing a line in.

You get some extended bonus DVD or something with each package. Legendary has 4, I think.

I've beaten the game on Easy (trying Normal next) and can say that the music is the best in the series and really stands out.

It's a lot more complex and cinematic than O'Donell's two previous efforts. I love it.

A rip of the main menu theme(s) would be nice though :-)

That the soundtracks gonna be broken up into 2 Volumes like last time which means forever getting all the cues, and plus Marty said that he's mixing it as a bunch of little themes making one big one, like he did on H2 Volume 2, so we need the power of rippers to get those bitty cues aand such so when the albums do arrive we don't have to edit or time marker our MP3's or what have you.

I've been tinkering with trying to rip some tracks myself, tried to do it through the Saved Film feature, it works all right except there's parts where in order for the song to continue, you have to fast forward the film and risk getting in sound effects and voice overs in the recording.

Okay, so I got sick of waiting for someone to record the main menu themes, so I tried to do it myself. I make no promises as to the quality of my recording, but I thought some other people might enjoy it (I like listening to it, at least!)

Yeah it's one of the things that's really annoying about the Halo series, there's no options to turn the voice overs or sound effects off.

Ive been noticing some games have been doing that recently such as the GRAW series. Why they don't have sound options is beyond me.

im curious, how do you rip the audio off 360 games? i know people do recordings of the music, but for the sake of smackdown vs raw 2008, is it possible to rip songs off the 360 games?

Depends, Some 360 game use the 360 audio codec XMA whiuch as of yet there is no decoder for it. Some use the developers audio files like EA's MUS or ubisofts Stream system which is a bitch to rip.

Ive got the game and im in the ark level so im gona use the film thing and rip some tracks. If i can im gonna take a look at the 360 image and see if the music files are of rippable format.

It was easy back then, I had the tools to open up those map files. Halo 3 is too early for there to be tools like ADI or CH2R.

i'm pretty sure I heard Marty O'Donnell say that on the last bungie podcast.

If I could find my adapter I need for recording music from my 360 I'd have already begun doing that >.< Perhaps I'm going to buy a new one tomorrow if I find a cheap one!

Ok here's another long track, it clocks in at about 11:31 :o I recorded the music during the Warthog getaway on the last level, had to use bits from my previous "Storm The Citadel" track as parts of it are pretty much the same. I couldn't get rid of the wind noises or a few other ambient sounds, no matter where I moved the camera, you could still hear it.

Anyways, i was browsing my Halo 3 Essentials Disc 1 and opened the Gallerium, and it started playing Storm the Citadel while I browsed the concept art; if you want a very pure way to record the song, that'd be your best bet. No explosions or anything; just the music.

For the record, this disc was viewed from the Legendary edition, although I believe it is the same disc in the Heroic set.

I think the track you're talking about was the exact same as the one in the E3 2007 trailer. They are essentially the same song except the one that I recorded, I found there's a couple bits that are different and aren't in that track. I plan on shortening the songs a bit and trying to find quieter spots in the Saved Films.

I didn't listen all the way through the track; I figure it was the same one they used in the game, only you wouldn't have to worry about saved films and finding quiet spots. I'll check tomorrow (I'm away from my 360 right now0.
