Just found a brand new upload site called MediaFire (http://www.mediafire.com) which seems to fix a lot of the complaints that most other sites generate -- unlimited (and multiple simultaneous) downloads, and unlimited uploads with no filesize cap. Looks good to me, and I thought you guys might want to know about it. :D

MediaFire is a great site as well, I get about the same downloading speed when compared to Rapidshare. I don't really get why an upload has to be verified, just adds more time to the upload, but I guess it just prevents corrupted files. Signing up on this file hoster :D

Megaupload is asking that I sign up for OMFG FREE LAPTOP before I download anything today. I think I'm gonna avoid it for now, at least until I know I won't get flooded with spam or become enraged in some other way.

Edit: Seems to be gone for now. It might have just been the first attempted download for the day.

I'm not having any problems with MegaUpload, uploading or downloading.

good trick on badongo is signing up for a free account and update (the process is just clicking on update, no re-uploading needed!) your files every 30 days, that way your files are NEVER deleted, i've done it, it's tested, it works.

In my experience, Megaupload is a whole lot friendlier than Rapdishare. RS is really. . .'cranky' as of late.

It NEVER deletes the files, it does not limit the speed, neither for uploading nor downloading (i got amazing download speeds when downloading from there!) and there's no limit in the amount of files you can download per day! Oh, and also, you cand download or upload all the files you want at the same time. And if you don't like web interfaces, you can also upload files through webDAV.

So what's the catch? well, the system is still pretty buggy, so it's difficult to upload big files, but this is supposed to get better with the time :P. They have also stated that they're not going to become a megaupload or rapidshare, they're aimed to create a youtube o del.icio.us kind of site, but for files :-D.

I've been using My fabrik (http://lite.myfabrik.com/index.php) lately for music. This process is a bit... convoluted if you want a direct mp3 link.
(You have to view the .xml from the embed code it gives you for uploading music)
It gives you a gig of space, but they tend to expire sporadically.

Besides the filesize limit, there is no real downside in using Divshare.

Much better than MegaUpload and Sendspace. The no cap thing is a godsend. I strongly urge anyone who uploads files to use it. The only hard part is getting your files to be less than 100MB (which didin't exist back when I first started using it)

Besides the filesize limit, there is no real downside in using Divshare.

There is quite a downside. If they find out that a user is uploading copyrighted material, they will delete ALL the content in the account. I know this first hand because they went into mine and deleted all of the VG albums I had uploaded.

Divshare isn't worth the frustration.

Just such a shame there aren't many files uploaded in rapidshare..because in the long run if a user has 10,000 downloads on his account, you get 1 free premium account. That is easily attainable.

I discovered a neat trick for uploading on Mediafire. If you have access to a computer with practically unlimited bandwidth (for example on work or in school), you'll note that Mediafire still maxes out at approx. 300kbps. If you want to upload say 10 files you can put them in a queue and you still have to wait 3 hours to upload it all, but instead you can open a new browser window and upload each file separately, and voila, all your 10 files will be finished in 30 mins!

Perhaps that's true; I don't have access to that kind of connection anymore. My connection is 7Mbps, and I get uploads of 500kbps or better on Mediafire, so 300Mb of files takes about 90 minutes. Except they will go and delete any file that's copyright protected with no warning until someone complains that your link won't work.

I've been so very fortunate the last four years. The school I went to has absolutely no censoring of anything at all on their computers because the security is maintained by locked hard drives instead (meaning as soon as you restart the computer, it will go back into a default state and apps you've installed/files you've saved are deleted). If I wanted to I could probably porn surf or research how to build bombs and no one would notice/care. :D

Be careful using Divshare; they are known to delete all of the content within a user's account.

Edit: Guess I could back to using Divshare. In a thread where someone was having trouble with Megaupload deleting their uploads, one person recommended not only password protecting the files, but renaming them to something else as well (i.e. "Matt's Stage Performance", Darnisha's New Dance, LOL!")

If you haven't noticed, Megaupload deletes most of the links posted on these forums. Mediafire does the same, and, I think, Gigasize. And not everyone can do torrents. Which is probably why more people are uploading to Sendspace and other sites, which maxes out their servers.

I use it for my uploads (amoung other things), and you're correct about the storage space and other options, though I disagree about the download and upload times; they're really slow. It took me an hour to download a 30 mb file from my own account. Not to mention the site has a nasty habit of timing out when you upload or download sometimes. Also, they're generally polite about sending a confirmation message for files in the deletion que, but sometimes they "forget" and you see your files dissapear quickly. Also I wouldn't recomend a lot of people using it. Files are monitored, and if a pattern develops, they have no qualms clearing out a person's file directory. For all its quirks you have to be surprisingly anal about checking up on it all the time. You never know - leave for four days and your stuff could be sent to the great beyond.

What about fileplanet? I haven't researched it, so I'm not knowledgeable but I don't think there's a upload or download limit. I think files are permanet too, not sure. The only problem I see is the waiting ques for some of the files.

About the recommended upload sites in this forum's description, does everyone agree on that? (it recommends sharebee, massmirror, and xirror for their mirror services, and 'alternatively' filefactory...) Cause for what's been said here I'd rather go with MediaFire or Gigasize...

The file services I've seen frequently used all over the 'net are Megaupload, Rapidshare, Deposit Files (http://depositfiles.com) (has anyone mentioned it yet?), and very rarely sendspace.

Speaking from someone outside the US, Megaupload sucks for me because it gives me severe country restrictions (I had to install the darn toolbar to let me download stuff, but even then I have to wait for many hours until it will let me download anything). But interestingly enough, Rapidshare works great for me... :laugh:

As for any tricks regarding IPs, it won't work for me since my (Cable) ISP has a unique IP for my connection (so if I reset it or mask it or whatever it just keeps insisting on the same IP)... I can't be the only one in this situation, right?

I guess there are many variables about which the best one could be (mirrors, easy uploading, download limits, etc.)... I guess I'll have to see which ones I learn to use to begin sharing stuff here... :-D

Wow. I just gave it a try myself...The one and only negative I have against FlyUpload is that it requires you to click on the same link from 1-20 times before the real download link reveals itself. A nuisance, absolutely, but as a downloader, I'd prefer using it to waiting over an hour in queue to download from Rapidshare. Anyway, for every time you click on these gateway - if you will - links, two ad windows pop-up. Not only that, but when the real download link revealed itself and I click on it, my Orbit Downloader program of all things activated itself and wanted to download an .htm file called "dl" from FlyUpload. My Orbit Downloader never runs when I download something; my Free Download Manager and the default Windows Installer do, however, but they didn't come up this time. I cancelled, of course.

I gotta say, though: What the hell are people still doing using I.E. in this day and age anyway? Bad mumbo jumbo can come your way as a result. Let this site and others like it be just but one example of the disadvantages of using I.E.

I heard about this today. It is simple to upload and quick to download without adverts at all. Only problem is no upload meter to see how long is left for upload. I also like using Massmirror.

I'm with those suggesting Badongo (http://www.badongo.com)

It's smooth, flawless, and imposes no restrictions whatsoever on the user. There are no waiting times (which I haaaaate, abominate, and loathe). I would highly recommend it especially for hosting humongous files, like movies or TV episodes.

The only cause I had (initially, at least) for complaint concerned opening the files upon downloading.

Large files (like movies) that are split up will end in extensions which your computer won't recognize until you perform a few procedures. Here's what you do:

When the download screen with the links to the files come up, the files might end in .aaa and .aab. There's also a third file you can download that ends in .cab (that means it's a batch file). AND THIS IS IMPORTANT: Download that too. When you have finished downloading all the files, double-click on the batch file (the one that ends in .cab). That done, you're all set to enjoy your files!

You don't need to download Badongo's batch file.

Then rename the Badongo-given extensions (.aa, .ab, etc) to .001, .002, and so forth.

Okay, I'm new here, been downloading, can anyone answer this question? Because I'm ignorant.

Why is nearly EVERYTHING I want to download hosted on SendSpace? Every time I click it it says "Your download is limited to 50 kbps." Ugh! What is that? That's useless! And why is everything else on Megaupload with all of its restrictions?

Here's the way it goes on here: when something is hosted on SendSpace, I'm SOL. When something is hosted on Megaupload, it's headaches.

When something is hosted on Rapidshare, it's good news. Because every time I click it they say "It's Happy Hour, no security questions" and they ALWAYS download at the highest speed possible.

You know where else rocks? The MassMirror links. I pick the Badongo link and everything goes smoothly.

But UGH. I'm trying to find Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 and Silent Hill 2 soundtracks on this site WITHOUT SENDSPACE. It doesn't look like it can be done and it's frustrating. I mean really. 50 kbps? That's as bad as a broken link.

In conclusion, SendSpace gets an F, Megaupload gets a D, Rapidshare gets a B+ and MassMirror gets an A. From a downloading perspective.

I think Mediafire is one of he best. It gives me resume downloading, its the priority for me. Coz in my place the connection are often disconected. such waste of time if disconected while ure downloading big files with no feature resume download. mediafire is the best one there is, on free accounts there is unlimited storage, div share cannot compare. 4shared is okay, but uploading bandwidth is the same as sendspace(terrible), megaupload is now 1024 mb and like 2 years file life with no more timeouts but i had some experience where downloading couldn't be read, maybe it was a daily download limit but megaupload still sucks and so does rapidshare. send space is horrible box.net isn't free and adrive is meant for backing up rather than sharing......

RS is just a lost cause at this point. Low upload limit, wait times, slow downloads, and now this new file deletion policy.

I recommend Mediafire for files under 200MB and Megaupload for files over 200MB. MU used to be utter crap, but they seem to have improved a lot in the past year.

I like MU the best too, rapidshare used to be pretty good but they're recent changes this year made their services crap. One problem with MU I've experienced lately is that I get an error message after some uploads. Sometimes the file will show up hours later in my filemanager folder, sometimes it just seems to disappear into oblivion. Not a huge problem, but is annoying.

I have a question here. I want to make contributions to this site too, so I made a free account on mediafire. I'm having problems with uploading my files. It goes well until it hits 99% then my poor computer has a stroke. I tried about 5 times. The files are zipped and under 100 megs each. :( I looked at their faqs but I didn't find anything mentioning this. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

Hotfile downloads for me usually start out around 100 kbps and end up between 50 - 30 kbps at the finish. XD

I have something called Switch sound file converter. It's free (mostly) but I'm not sure if it will convert it for you. Try it anyway. After a while it will say you need to upgrade but you can just say you want the basic free version

This program has a massive selection of file hosting sites that you can upload to, and you can queue them up one after the other.

I personally use this program and upload to FlameUpload because it provides me with 16 mirrors (Would be 17 but Mediafire seems to not work with FlameUpload anymore...)

From my experience, it never deleted my files unless something like an server accident.
But you must need an account, those files uploaded without an account will be cleaned very quickly!
And you'd better logging in your account for less than every 60 days to keep the files in your account alive. (this is from their old version of FAQ, it maybe no longer available but you'd better do this.)

They say they will delete the file didn't receive any downloads for 90 days. Actually they rarely do this. Files can be kept for much longer.


Any site like MultiUpload and mirrorcreator is nice but you can't sure they can run for a very long time. If they are dead all your links will be dead, too. So I can't recommend them a lot.

Oh, I was not aware of the report thing(or maybe some other reasons cause file deleting). MediaFire is better than MegaUpload on this point. MegaUpload deletes stuffs quite often. Hmm, it's a headache problem.

A good thing would for people to change extension files from .rar to another thing (anything works) and to upload their rips/osts. Then downloaders rename the extension to .rar and extract the files.

If they don't put 'OST' or 'Soundtrack' in their file name, hosting websites won't (or might) delete them.

Please people, Megauppload sucks, i can never download anyting properly from there and if i do i exceed the DOWNLOAD LIMIT very fast. There are few other crappy sites besides Megashite, is there any proper site where file sizes are ok and no download WAITING and other LIMITS. I can suffer mediafire popups but is there any proper site out there ? - That is - something that operates normally FOR FREE.

Registering as a free user has some nice boons, so I did. While anon uploaders' files last 21 days, a free user's last 90 days.
Anyone can up files of up to 1024mb/1gb and free users get 200 GB of online storage with file manager, allowing file folders and such. Finally, it allows resuming broken uploads and downloads.

Takes a minute to register and it doesn't require e-mail activation or a credit card or any such crap, so I recommend it, even if only as an anon user.

As the poster before me pointed out, apparently there is a timed download limit. Personally, I've never met the limit and as I pointed out, MU gives me the best speeds out of any file host, and also the largest files. So this limit must be decently high.
Particularly in comparison with, say, GigaSize, which yesterday gave me a 4 hour waiting period after I download 3 files sizing less than 500MBs total.
But in fact it was only today that it allowed me to download another file, as yesterday it kept the message that I had reached the limit, far beyond the 4 hours. So, it allowed me to download again today, but speed was capped at 60kbps. And after I downloaded that 190MB file, now it tells me I have to wait 10 hours.
Summarily, I'd avoid uploading there.

I think none of the multi-file uploading sites is really good, many of them lack of maintaince, some of them steal the elements from other sites, some of them no longer run on the internet. But MultiUpload and mirrorcreator is relatively good.

My suggestion sites for uploading is still MegaUpload and MediaFire. Note you need accounts of them. For MegaUpload, you'd better change the name of your file, don't include any words like OST, original soundtrack. For MediaFire, splitting file into a few parts is necessary if the file is too big.

And I find Ziddu is a good for file hosting. It keeps files available for very long, I don't know this is cause they have less limitations or their site is lack of maintaince.

I think the first posts need a bit of updating - did MU at least get better for free users?

Is anyone else having problems downloading from Megaupload? Since two days I only get rates at about 20 KB/s!

I'm having this problem with MegaUpload that whenever I bring it up, it flickers for like ten minutes before I can actually do anything in terms of managing the files I've uploaded. Just recently, it says I have no files uploaded. It hasn't updated its record for probably 6 months; I have things I've put out there that I have no way of knowing how many times they've been downloaded. I also think I don't even have the ability to delete said files. MegaUpload sucks. :(

If it works bad for you, it doesn't mean that it works bad for everyone. Some sharehostings suck in one country, but show great speeds in others.

Over the past 1,5-2 years MegaUpload worked as good as MediaFire for me, for example.

For what i'm reading around here and on other forums there's a general consensus about waiting and letting things settle a bit before taking again on upload/reupload... With what's going on there's no point in uploading copyrighted material and have it instantly deleted, or worse, having data which might identify you and put you in trouble passed to federals/whoever it will be.

Still, i can't help but feeling pissed about the whole situation: One huge site becomes the Tango of the "Tango down" sentence... others wipe out their sharing functionality (Loads of laughs at the "share this page with your friends/on forums" still on FileServe)... On MU there wasn't only illegal content, but also people who had legit files and legit premium accounts... With what the government has done, such honest people got screwed, too... They no longer have the right to share or access their files. Almost the same could be said about FileServe/FileSonic.

The content creators give us permission to use it. At least that's how it works in the US. It's how the laws are written, and if we want them changed we need to vote for people that will make those changes. I'd personally rather actually "OWN" the media I purchase. I don't like that I don't legally own it according to the laws and TOS that is part of the contract you sign when you purchase music, movies etc.

You're totally right about honest people getting screwed, but the majority of their usage was for piracy. Which is a shame. It was pretty embarrassing to see the ad of music artists talking about using megaupload when their content was being stolen using that very same service. I'm hoping as part of this shutdown that after account investigations, the honest users money is returned to them out of the company assets. They do deserve compensation for the money they have lost.

Even if you are 100% against piracy (unsurprisingly, very few people here are) one could argue against the MU case by virtue of the fact that all people are being punished for the actions of a subset.

Sneaking up on MU, wiping it out overnight = insanity. Businesses use MU for legitimate concerns. Users make backups on MU. I myself had server backups on MU.

Now that's all gone because the FBI wanted to make an example of MU - ostensibly because it was edging towards a legitimate business model that would have put traditional media outlets right out of business.

Even if I am a 100% legitimate user (I am not; I speak hypothetically and on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of former MU users who are) I must now face the uncomfortable reality that if the company who are looking after my data do something the government don't like (and let's not forget - MU haven't had a trial yet; they've been wiped out all the same) then it's all gone and I can't do a single thing about it. Storage you cannot rely on, that is not under your control, that may evaporate at a moment's notice or go offline thanks to the actions of other people... is no storage at all. The cloud, therefore, is worthless.

Can we trust the cloud? No. Does the government / FBI give a monkey's ass about legitimate users when considering the matter of piracy? No. Have they knowingly dumped on hundreds of thousands of legitimate users in order to get their man? Yes. Are they likely to deliberately misrepresent and grossly overinflate the facts in their case in order to secure a victory? Yes.

Weak argument, man. You don't need such stuff as Anime/music/or even games, you just want it. The best way to show industry that perhaps things need to change would be to not buy its products at all and leave them on the shelves, all the while not going the other way and pirate.... If you choose this road you're doing their game, 'cause they'll use piracy as an excuse to raise prices and find other means to fuck up customers.
I'm perfectly aware of the studies showing how piracy doesn't really have that much of an impact on "bigger names" and some "smaller ones", but still... There are legal means to obtain such stuff (example: import) and if you are unsatisfied with them... you should let it be known, legally. With the way things have gone/are currently going/will likely go the situation will never change. We can come up with all the excuses we want for our actions, but such material should be paid in order to be enjoyed (they deserve some kind of compensation)... And if you don't have the money to buy what you want, you should either wait and save up... or give up and go on. After all we're not talking about stuff such as food, but media for our enjoyment.... Copyright is not the only issue, some others without a good prospect would be down in the future, you would feel pain if you used that a lot.

Guys, you could switched to those services don't affected by copyright issues. Like those services located in China and Russia. I'm from China and I upload stuff very very safely, and some of the services runs very stably.

When it comes to music, a really good site I found is wiki6.com (http://kiwi6.com)
This site has many great features such as:
- Don't need an account to upload
- Has hotlinking for mp3s (for registered users)
- A lot of space
- Can listen to a music file before downloading
- Can upload ANY file type
- more that I'm too lazy to list

Megaupload is gone, Wupload, Filesonic and Fileserve both restricted themselves to accessing only files you yourself uploaded, and Rapidshare is at the above-mentioned crawl. Multiupload also seems to be dead; it just doesn't load at all for me.
This is what the country has come to: you don't need to pass a law, you just need to dangle it around publicly enough that you can intimidate those it targets into submission.
Mediafire is still good if you have a link, but they seem to scour their stuff much more enthusiastically now, and have done something masking much of their content from Google (not sure about other engines).
4shared and Depositfiles both still work normally ( *crosses fingers* ). I think Oron still does. Not sure about Hotfile.

I suggest uploadmirrors, gazup, embedupload and uploading simply because they offer rapidshare, where files have a tendency to last longer than in other filesharing services. If you use them, I recommend that you back up the mirror links as well, because some services may die, but the mirrors will keep alive as long as they are used. In the past I had to re-upload some files because I did not take this precaution.

Mediafire is an excellent service, but I believe they do take content down if it is too popular. That is, if a file is downloaded by many people in a short period of time, MF seems to check the link and regularly takes down any copyrighted or questionable material. This has not happened to me, but I do not share popular material.

There is another problem in the future. Mediafire service is anchored in the US and I believe that a new legislation will come in effect next year that will cause that most files will have to be taken down. At the moment, I cannot access the website where I read this and, therefore, cannot quote which exact legislation it is, but I do remember that it was suggested to stop using Mediafire and other US-based filesharing services in preparation for that legislation, so I believe it would be a good idea to research which filesharing services do not have ties to the US and which of them work the best.

I think it is a must, these services were just too easy to die. And I think only Mirrorcreator can be called good among these, many others of these even copied other's page designing to set up their site, once set up'd, they did not even maintain it.

Okay, I found the legislation. It is in fact not a new law, but an anti-piracy scheme created by major American ISPs and it will in fact come into effect in around a month, not a year as I thought:

Because of this new policy by US-based ISPs, it is suggested to abandon any US-based filesharing services, like Mediafire.

Besides Rapidshare, which is Germany-based and which won a sentence in its favor in that country last year, therefore making its service legal (not the files), I believe Depositefiles and uploaded.to are also German services, although I believe they do have restrictions with US-ips that make then unusable for most people in the US.

There is another option that I have been using as a download user and that has worked very well. It is Russian and it might be a little complicated to register, but from what I've read and used, it seems well worthwhile:

I use rapidgator, filefactory, and depositfiles. Some of my files on my free depositfiles account are still there after about 2 years. They stay I think for 60 or 90 days since last download.

Depositfiles does indeed last for a long time. However, the speed is unreliable for download users. Sometimes you get great speeds, but most of the time it is quite slow for free users. I do not like FileFactory since files tend to die relatively quick and I know that it is a difficult to download from that service in some countries since it limits free slots. Rapidgator is relatively new, so it is a big unknown. Where is it based? Europe, Asia? How long do files last? How good is the speed for users in the US and outside the US?

What I like to do is, use MediaFire to store my files for free and then use the other hosts to share them. That way, I don�t have to keep buying hard drives to store my stuff. Mediafire has a habit of suspending accounts lately, so I don�t use it to share.

While a good alternative and very good advice, that kind of defeats the purpose of finding a good uploading site since, essentially, most file hosting services with free services allow you to keep your private files for as long as you want, you just can't share the content publicly, so that's really isn't useful for sharing albums. In that instance, it'd be better to use a multi-mirror service so that one doesn't have to do double work when uploading.
