One of my favourite scores. Thanks for the share, op.

It's a shame that Miracle Day never got an OST.

My pleasure. This soundtrack is oustanding like the rest of Torchwood's music. I couldn't agree more with you about Miracle Day. There are a lot of good pieces of music on there that I am sad to say will most likely NEVER see the light of day and there still never was a real reason as far as I'm aware, why it was never released.

If you don't mind me asking, how is your edit of the Miracle Day Soundtrack coming along by the way?

It's coming along steady now, I have just been busy and distracted by other things but don't worry, not long now. It won't be perfect unfortunately as it's not official and will have sfx in songs, some will be cleaner then others.

100% agree on both of your replies. I don't think it'll ever be getting an OST. I wasn't aware you were making an edit of it, so consider me hyped! I really liked Miracle Day's score, which makes it all the more upsetting that it never got a release.

Yeah, I throughly enjoyed the score from Miracle Day, it's a disappointment that it won't get a proper release. Yes, I am doing an edit but it won't be perfect as it's sourced from a Blu-ray multi-channel copy and will contain sound effects but it's better then not having it at all right? It's a shame that the audio is still lossy on the Blu-Ray version as well. (DTS only, not DTS-MA) which I know a lot of early Blu-Rays used lossy audio and this is the BBC we are talking about. Most of their old High Definition releases were lossy. I did email Silver-Screen, (past record label for Doctor Who and Torchwood soundtrack releases) about why it was never released, they just said it couldn't be licensed but even they were unsure why.

Miracle Day was a joint production between the BBC & STARZ so maybe STARZ have some rights over it still? Murray Gold, composer on Doctor Who and Torchwood, did Season 4 of Torchwood but he doesn't have a website or Soundcloud and I contacted the email of the representatives of Murray Gold, given to me by BBC support on their website and I never got a reply which was expected so thats really all that could be done on my end. At least Ben Foster has an soundcloud and he released on his Soundcloud, selection of unreleased themes from Torchwood Season 1/2 in .MP3 which is better then nothing at all plus they are free of SFX which is awesome as all music on there is unreleased. I have already uploaded all of his from there on here.

A list of all the people/services/companies I contacted about this:

Murray Gold's Representatives email: [email protected]
Ben Foster's contact: [email protected]

Sfx are unfortunate, but to be expected with the territory. Do keep me posted on your efforts, as I'd love to get a hold of Miracle Day's score, irrespective of the quality. I also appreciate your efforts in contacting them, as the Torchwood scores aren't all too well known and there thus isn't much demand for any releases from them.

I wasn't aware many other people knew about Foster's SoundCloud. It was great to get some of the unreleased cues from it. I wish that he released anything from Children of Earth, as that was the pinnacle of Torchwood, score wise. The rendition of Ianto's theme at the end of Day Four was beautiful.

It's alway worth trying to contact the actual composers and that just to see if they can help or not. Children of Earth was the pinnacle of Torchwood music I couldn't agree more with you there and The Ballad of Ianto Jones was a truly haunting piece of music. Silverscreen did tell me there was demand for a score for Miracle Day over the years since 2011 but couldn't license it for unknown reasons but that's all there is really.

Torchwood: Children of Earth actually had a really good piece of music from Day Five when Gwen & Rhys and Ianto's sister and extended family are running from the Army that was shown on TV but changed in the RETAIL versions and never released but I managed to source it. It still contains SFX but luckily the aired version was multi-channel so it was possible to extract it to some extent. I will put a link you can download and listen to it if you like, you might recognise it if you've seen it on TV broadcast and noticed they, for unknown reasons, switched it on the retail DVD, Blu-Ray disc and digital versions.

The Miracle Day score is a refreshing take from Murray Gold I think even though several pieces are reused if I recall correctly through the season.

NOTE: This is .FLAC for archive reasons as this is taken from a lossy broadcast and so isn't TRUE lossless but to prevent further loss, (say if i transcoded to .MP3, more quality would be degraded) i have archived it to .FLAC.

With the confirmation that they're unable to license it, I don't see anyway in which Miracle Day's OST will be released. The footwork people like you put into trying to get it out or -- as a last resort -- ripping it is I'm sure much appreciated by everybody into the scores. It's pitiful that the only reason we can't listen to the original music comes down to the inability of these companies to properly release it.

I actually did notice that they swapped the score for that scene when rewatching it on YouTube, and have always wondered why. Hearing this on its own now, I'm quite perplexed as to why they did so. This fits the scene much better and is much more haunting, as opposed to the more adrenaline packed Run For Your Lives. The quality of your rip is so much better than I was expecting. Great work, and I'm definitely adding this to the album. You wouldn't have happened to try and rip anymore of the unreleased CoE cues, no? This YouTube rip features my favourite part of the CoE score, which is unfortunately unreleased: https://youtu.be/TLgka53W7Ic?t=3171. That rendition of Ianto's theme is damn depressing.

Edit: This conversation is going to have me rewatching CoE again. One of my favourite shows (seasons, lol) ever, and likewise one of my favourite scores. It's also a shame that Jack's.. return? suit up? theme in Day Three is absent from the OST (https://youtu.be/L5pcE6i2BoQ?t=462).

So it looks like there's more music then I knew about that was missing from the COE score. I might have to rip that score as well and maybe Season 1 and 2 as I own all 4 seasons so why not? Do you know how much music is missing from COE's album? That rendition of Ianto's theme is truly haunting I agree there. Jack's back theme is missing too, so it seems, damn, how much is actually missing is got me wondering now. I don't even think Ben Foster has any unreleased music on his soundcloud from Children of Earth, just season 1/2 which is a shame as I would of liked more from COE but it is what it is. Last time I checked he didn't and he doesn't update his page anymore and it's nearly impossible to contact him like it is Murray Gold. I guess we will never know why he didn't opt that haunting theme for release, Running from the Army or I guess Running for your lives as it's known on the album.

It was both exciting and disappointing discovering he'd released some of the unreleased S1 material, only to find out that he hadn't done so for CoE. In regards to whats missing: I'd have to check, which makes it good grounds for a rewatch. The YouTube channel I linked did full rips of each episode and has timestamps for each separate track in the description, so you could likely ID the unreleased material from that. Each video -- accounting for one episode -- is around 40 - 55 minutes, and the official OST is an hour and 17 minutes long. CoE's OST is still great as is, but it's just disappointing that it isn't complete. From memory, the Ballad of Ianto Jones is also substantially different in the actual show (edit: yep: https://youtu.be/TLgka53W7Ic?t=2935, the OST track is quite different in the back half). I'll do a breakdown from those YouTube rips compared to the OST if you haven't got the time, as I'm revisiting the score at the moment.

Edit: Torchwood: Children of Earth S3E1 - EMS Productions' Episode of Music. Green means that the track is on the OST, red means it's missing. This more than likely has quite a few errors as I skimmed, but it should give you an idea of the full picture. A good rule of thumb for this person's edit is that they retained the same titles for tracks from the OST, for the most part.

00:00 The First Sacrifice
01:29 What's Occurring (TV Version)
04:03 Removing the Hitch Hiker / Diplomatic Cars (4:03 - 5:53 is missing from Removing the Hitch Hiker)
07:18 It's the Children!
09:27 Contacting Torchwood
11:05 A Couple
11:19 Suicide
12:41 We Are Coming (12:41 - 13:14 is missing)
15:06 They've Found Me / No More Calls - Rearrangement of Thames House
17:30 Searching 'Torchwood' / The 456
19:54 The 456 / Timothy White - The 456 is the back half of Thames House
21:49 Gwen and Rhys
23:40 A Blank Page
24:21 Jack's Daughter/ I Need a Kid
26:06 Jack and Ianto
27:19 Timothy White's
29:08 Clement MacDonald - For the most part the OST track. Seems it is missing the middle portion.
32:01 Looking up Clement MacDonald / Blank Page
34:06 'Killing' / Double Crossed
39:05 Gwen's Pregnant
39:43 We're Having a Baby

Nice one, that will help Immensely. I will upload the rest of COE when I have finished on my current Miracle Day edit. If you are interested I'll link the page to when I uploaded the unreleased themes from Ben Foster's Soundcloud.

This isn't related to Torchwood as such but more of success when it comes to contacting composers. I recently contacted Ian Livingstone, composer for various games including X-Men 2: Wolverines Revenege and he sent me all the in game cutscene music that wasn't included in the games files, seperated, no SFX which was fantastic. That's why it's always worth a shot to contact a composer where possible as you might get lucky like I did so if Murray Gold had a contact email, he might of sent music my way but then again, the BBC might still hold the contactual rights and thus, still couldn't release it but ALWAYS worth a shot, thanks again.

I was very surprised to find another Torchwood fan on here, let alone one as into the scores as you are. I ripped the unreleased cues from Foster's SoundCloud a few months back, but having them organised like this is a huge help. I also love the cover artwork! Great work all around. That's very interesting regarding Livingstone, and I suppose it makes sense taking into account the fact that these aren't overly in demand scores. I may personally email them using your above contacts just to test my luck. Thanks so much for the S1 link, rep added!

Man, speaking of S1, I'm sore that the Cyberwoman score was never released either.

Yeah, credit to StarThoughts for the coverart and titles as I originally was going to have to go back over some episodes and pin point them but no need now plus the names are perfect for the themes. it's also great to have someone else who also shares their love of the Torchwood scores on here as well. In all honesty, I think I just got lucky with Ian Livingstone as I tried last November and got no response, tried again recently and got a response almost instantly. Yeah You should definitely try contacting them like I did to see what they will say with you. The Cyberwoman score is top notch, there is a variation of, "Look Right, Then Turn Left" from the S01/S02 Soundtrack featured on the episode that is faster yet on the soundtrack it's slowed down. It sounds like it could be used for Time Agent and ex lover of Captain Jack Harkness, Captain John Hart but I don't think it's he's theme. I will try and locate it and show you.

This piece is absolutely fantastic, so much great music from Cyberwoman left unreleased, it's a real shame:

I'm glad Ben at least has contact information and is on social media. Whilst I'm itching for a Miracle Day OST, CoE is just a fantastic score. This conversation has been rather revealing as to just how much music was left off of all of the scores. I'm gonna need you to turn over all of your Torchwood edits if available -- bloody fantastic work. Love that rendition of Look Right, Then Turn Left. This (https://youtu.be/kfvKUr4LQE8?t=9) is the one I was thinking of from Cyberwoman. It seems there have been quite a few efforts to rip Torchwood's unreleased music, including some of Miracle Day on SoulSeek.

I couldn't find anything on Soulseek regarding Miracle Day or Torchwood, could you be so kind to point me in the right direction? I have quite a few Torchwood edits, I love the Rendition theme from MD, Episode 1, "A New World" When CIA Agent Rex Matheson extradites them to the United States of America under the 456 amendements. The Murder of Suzie Cabina: My god is this chilling and brilliant! https://anonfile.com/Ga55Z5g1n7/The_Murder_of_Suzie_Cabina_flac

Rendition is a cracking theme, one of the standouts of Miracle Day's score alongside the last episode where Jack tells Oswald that he's from the future, and Gwen's monologue. It's worth keeping in mind that is quite SFX laden, and it isn't nearly complete. This edit was uploaded by users glassy and Peter North on SoulSeek, so not much idea who originally made it. Cover is from this DeviantArt user: https://www.deviantart.com/brophysaur/art/Torchwood-Miracle-Day-Unofficial-Soundtrack-Cover-450423836. I just realised after uploading too that it's incorrectly tagged as 2010 and not 2011, lol.

Looking forward to listening to your Rendition edit after posting this!

EDIT: Fantastic work. Love this, and the cover you used on it is much better than the one I've been using. On the topic of Miracle Day, did Gold ever use Jack's theme in it? I can't particularly recall. The Torchwood theme is obviously ever-present, as is the Miracle motif, but I can't place Jack's tractor theme from memory.

I don't think Jack's old theme is used but there is a theme that is used in Miracle Day that I think is his new theme. The Torchwood theme is a new take on it and I love it, same with the general MD theme. There is also the theme when the blessing is being blown up by Jack's blood and Oswald danes but that is so full of SFX, it's near impossible to get a decent rip of it since it consists of loud explosions and bangs.

I do have the first episode complete actually

I sure have a lot of unreleased music to sort through. Worth it though.

I'm sure that's a monumental effort to properly rip and organise. As I said earlier, it's honestly a shame that it even has to come to this, but I'm loving your work so far. The Miracle theme / new rendition of the Torchwood theme are both fantastic. I think I'd have preferred Ben Foster to have another crack at the show, but Gold still did a good job on it.

No problem.

Considering how well Ben Foster did on Children of Earth's Score, it would of been interesting to see the types of music he "may" of scored if he had done Miracle Day.

I am looking forward to getting to Cyebrwoman. Some of my favourite music from the first season of Torchwood.

EDIT: Btw, I don't know if you seen it or not but on the previous page, I posted emails from Silverscreen that I got some time ago regarding the unreleased Miracle Day score. I edited a previous post and went back through it.

I have always prefered Torchwood over Doctor Who or The Sarah Jane Adventures because of how mature, gritty and dark it gets and the themes it gets to explore because of them. It makes the music pieces composed that much more interesting like the Oswald Danes piece that I linked to.

That screenshot I shared is all the music I ripped, organised and tagged from episode 1, The New World, from Miracle Day.

As you know, it won't be perfect as it's not straight from the original studio files and is straight up rips, The very first episode of Torchwood, for example, at the start features rain sounds bleeding into the music channels which is annoying and you can't really remove things like that so will have to make do.

Those screenshots are intriguing. Murray Gold and Miracle Day's OST is shaping up to be a dead end, but Foster may be more open to releasing some of the unreleased cues given that he's done so in the past. However, as you pointed out, he's not all too active. 100% agree with you too -- Doctor Who isn't a bad show, but I never got into it the way that I did Torchwood. My only real experience with it is the crossover episodes with Jack (Utopia) or Torchwood (Stolen Earth). I feel that season two was where Torchwood really came into its own, which is also exemplified in the first season's score. Elements like Jack's theme were founded, built on, and then rearranged going forward. That's not to say that it isn't still a great score with standout elements (The Cyberwoman, Jack's Love Theme, Tractor Attack, and so on), but that season two is where it really pulled it together. I'm disappointed that Owen wasn't in CoE, as I loved his theme in S2.

Sound effects in rips are both unfortunate but expected. It comes with the territory, so I can't complain. It's the only way to really listen to the music, so regardless of issues with the quality, the effort is much obliged. If you need help organising, naming tracks, or trying to list out the unreleased cues from the show, feel free to recruit me, as all this talk is making me want to rewatch the show, lol. Guess it's good timing too, as CoE's tenth anniversary is in two months.

That's good to know. Will let you know if there's anything I find that I can't place etc. 10 years wow, that was such a long time ago. A good time to release some new material for a soundtrack release which isn't going to happen but would be nice.

Season 2 of Torchwood really hit it off more score and story wise and Having Owen appear in COE somehow would of been interesting. Martha and Mickey from Doctor Who were meant to be in it but due to other commitments, they had to be written out of the story completely.

Murray Gold has done fantastic music on Doctor Who before he left recently. Season 1-4's selection has to be my favourite though although in all honesty, Season 1 starring Christopher Eccelston, really did it for me and is still the best music. Too bad the BOOTLEG/Studio cues were taken down from here at somepoint.

Brilliant shot of the Tower from Miracle Day:

Unreleased STUDIO Cues. I wonder how someone got this leaked from Murray Gold?

The Hub is rather nostalgic. S2 and CoE collectively cleaned house and destroyed the basis of the show, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing since CoE was legendary.

Leaks like that are going to be a bitch to properly investigate due to how much they're passed around and reuploaded. I was going to suggest heading to the Doctor Who threads on Shrine, but trying to find them now, I see you're active in some of them too! I really need to get into the audio dramas. Torchwood is thriving there. Thread 72196. Still, might be worth an ask, or at least a look into said Doctor Who unreleased cues to see where they originated.

Edit: Actually turns out that the person who did the Children of Earth episode rips was (is?) active in that thread. Their username is hamilton10000.

Thanks, will check them out when I get the chance.

I did listen to The Last Beacon audio drama some time ago featuring Ianto Jones and Owen Harper together on a mission in the Breacon Beacons and it was interesting and something we never saw on TV recording Ianto and Owen together, forming a friendship etc.

You should check out the Doctor's theme as well as the score from Season 1 (Much is UNRELEASED unfortunately as is always the case) from Season 1 of the 2005 reboot of Doctor Who, Staring Christopher Eccelston as the Doctor. Some of my favourite music stems from the first season of the reboot.

I will include some songs for you to listen to, including haunting pieces from The Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who, Ultimate Sacrifice and The Doctor's theme among others.
