16-bit 44.1 kHz lossless FLAC audio format and 320kbit/s MP3.
WHAT IS THIS?
This collection contains the all music tracks that comprise the soundtracks for the PC-Engine editions of the RPG game series Ys by Falcom. It's incredible music but was not mastered well: Ys 1+2+3 all have very mid-centric masters with weak bass and muffled highs. Ys 4 was similar but also mastered very quietly. These are no longer the case.
One of my goals with this endavor is to present to the community well-mastered Original Sound Version / OST music of the greatest soundtracks video gaming has to offer. I have added some sympathetic mastering but have not altered the tracklist nor the times of the tracks. These tracks are taken directly from original Japanese PC Engine CDs and could potentially be inserted back into BIN images for use with emulators or the original hardware. I cannot provide assistance with this process, do not ask me.
WHY ARE TRACK NUMBERS MISSING?
You will immediately notice that there are many numbers missing in the tracklist. This is because - as stated - the tracks are taken from the original game CDs and I wanted to retain the track order and position. Due to how the PC Engine arranged CD tracks, track 1 was often just a vocal warning track, then track 2 would usually be a data track. In the Ys soundtracks there are also many voice / cutscene tracks and they are NOT included in this collection except for "Feena" from Ys 1 and two tracks in Ys 3 that contain significant music pieces. I have NOT renumbered the tracks so that they remain consistent with the original CDs, making it easier for those wishing to insert these remasters back into the games.
WHY DO I HEAR NOISE ON SOME TRACKS IN YS 4?
Ask the musicians: they recorded these versions, not me. I am not going to compromise the audio integrity of the music just to remove a bit of hum or buzz.
