From La La Land Records, two very different science fiction scores. “Crack In The World” (1965) is a stirring orchestral score by John Douglas. “Phase IV” (1974) is an intense electronic score by Brian Gascoigne.

“Crack In The World” is sourced from the film’s D&E tracks and some dialog bleed can be heard on the quieter tracks. “Phase IV” is from the same tapes that Waxwork Records used for their earlier release.

Full scans are included. I’ve added my own version of cover art for “Crack In The World” plus the Waxworks Records cover for “Phase IV”.

I watched the film again recently and I can confirm that the album's tracks are in film order.

One tiny mistake in the album's text: "Sheetwater Island" should be "Sheerwater Island :)

A Crack in the World was the first movie score I remember humming afterwards and annoying my parents who wondered what the crack I was singing.... that must've been forty years ago !!!! I've got the movie, and it is indeed rather terrible but I still love that thumping main score... brilliant upload!!!

Hold your tongue! Crack is a very well produced Brit B movie. This and The Day of the Triffids make for a fabulous double feature. Throw in The Day the Earth Caught Fire for the trifecta.

I mentioned in the other Phase IV thread that the original ending (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beLpsWaUDNk) of the movie has surfaced. In addition to surreal visuals it features music not heard on the soundtrack.

This was my first encounter with Crack in the World, and its score really brings the drama and suspense. I wouldn't trade the experience of hearing it for... well, for all the crack in the world. Thanks feedthecats!
